Aziz Ansari Handicaps The MTV Movie Awards

‘I vote Christoph [Waltz] all the way,’ host says of ‘Inglourious Basterds’ star’s Best Villain nod. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Aziz Ansari Photo: Jesse Grant/ Getty Images With the 2010 MTV Movie Awards getting closer and closer to showtime (roughly four days and a few hours left to go!), we thought it would be a good idea to check in with the night’s esteemed host, Aziz Ansari , to see how he’s handling the pressure, what he’s preparing and, most importantly, who he thinks deserves to win. On getting the call to come host the show, the “Parks and Recreation” star admitted he was “excited,” yet “stunned all the people in ‘Twilight’ weren’t available.” Speaking of the famed vampire-centric franchise, Ansari said that he’s been watching the films as part of his preparation. “I watched ‘Twilight’ a bunch, ‘Avatar’ 400 times,” he said. “I’ve been stalking Daniel Radcliffe, whatever I can do to get those movies in my head.” He’s also been doing a lot of writing for the show, adding, “I want to make sure all of my short films meet the high bar met by previous hosts.” Regarding the potential winners, Ansari had some pointed opinions, particularly with the Best Villain and Best Comedic Performance categories. “I gotta throw my bit behind Christoph Waltz [“Inglourious Basterds”],” he said of the Best Villain race. “That was an incredible performance. I vote Christoph all the way.” Ansari also mentioned a character that was overlooked in that category. “In ‘The Blind Side,’ did society get nominated as Best Villain?” he joked. “That’s my vote: society. Or poverty.” So who would get up and accept that award? “I think we all would have to get up and get that award,” Ansari responded. The funnyman’s pick for Best Comedic Performance was slightly more challenging, especially since we pointed out that he wasn’t nominated in that category himself. “I know, I guess they looked over me,” he said, unfazed. “I’d have to go with Robert Pattinson in ‘Remember Me’ for that category. … No, I was a big fan of Zach Galifianakis’ performance in ‘The Hangover.’ He’s been around for so long. He’s never had the opportunity to be funny in a movie like that, and they gave it to him, and he knocked it out of the park.” Ansari ended our chat with suggestions for new categories, including Why the F— Did They Make This Movie and Best Piece of S— Performance. Robert Pattinson Talks New Haircut And Ballet On ‘Ellen’

‘Twilight’ star reveals that new ‘do is for his role in the movie ‘Water for Elephants.’ By Josh Wigler Robert Pattinson on “Ellen” Wednesday Photo: Warner Bros. If you’ve grown attached to Robert Pattinson’s signature hairstyle, you’re in for a bit of a surprise. When the 24-year-old “Twilight” star appeared on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on Wednesday (May 19), he showed off his brand-new look: a trimmed-down, shorter haircut. Asked by Ellen why he decided to cut his hair, Pattinson jokingly replied: “I got a terrible infestation of nits, and I had to shave it all off.” After Ellen informed the actor that “nits” are actually called “head lice” in the United States, she gently encouraged him not to “start that rumor.” “No, I’m doing a film,” he revealed of the real reason behind his haircut. Pattinson will star in “Water for Elephants,” a movie based on the novel by Sara Gruen about a college dropout and his experience as an animal caretaker for a traveling circus in the 1930s. Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz co-star, and shooting begins this week. After he discussed the movie, Ellen asked Pattinson if he feels more comfortable actually acting than discussing the craft of acting in interviews, suggesting that the “Twilight” star is shy in real life. “I just like doing things where you have a little time to think about what you’re saying,” he confessed. “I’ve always had a problem actually thinking [in real time] before I open my mouth.” But Pattinson wasn’t bashful when asked about his experience as a dancer earlier in his life. “I did ballet when I was 10,” he revealed to cheers from the audience. “Then I realized that I was a guy, and I was the only guy in the class,” he laughed. “When you’re the only guy in your black leotard and your black jeans dancing to the ‘Batman’ theme tune, when everyone else is doing proper ballet, it only lasts so long. You can’t really go past 10!” What do you think of Rob’s new haircut? Let us know in the comments! Voting begins Wednesday for the MTV Movie Awards, which air live on MTV June 6. By Eric Ditzian Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms and Bradley Cooper in “The Hangover” Photo: Warner Bros. Beware the power of an overwhelming “Hangover.” That’s the first lesson of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards , because the votes are in and the Bradley Cooper-starring comedy leads the field with six nominations. Following close behind in that flick’s boozy wake are “New Moon” and “Avatar,” each of which nabbed five nominations. “The Hangover” was tapped in categories including Best Movie, Best Comedic Performance (Cooper and Zach Galifianakis) and Best Villain (Ken Jeong). After “Twilight” led the 2009 awards with seven nominations, the vampire sequel’s 2010 nods include Best Movie, Best Female Performance (Kristen Stewart), and Best Male Performance (Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner). “Avatar” scored in such categories as Best Movie, Best Female Performance (Zoe Saldana) and Best Villain (Stephen Lang). Hosted by Aziz Ansari , the Movie Awards air live on Sunday, June 6, at 9 p.m. ET. Starting Wednesday, May 12, through Saturday, June 5, you’ll be able to head to MovieAwards.MTV.com to vote for a winner in every category. Rounding out the Best Movie category are “Alice in Wonderland” and “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” In addition to the “Hangover” and “New Moon” boys, the Best Male Performance category consists of Channing Tatum (“Dear John”), Daniel Radcliffe (“Half-Blood Prince”) and Zac Efron (“17 Again”). Joining Stewart and Saldana as Best Female Performance nominees are Amanda Seyfried (“Dear John”), Emma Watson (“Half-Blood Prince”) and Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”). MTV will also introduce three brand-new categories at this year’s show. Freaking over their nods for Best Scared-as-Sh– Performance will be Alison Lohman (“Drag Me to Hell”), Amanda Seyfried (“Jennifer’s Body”), Jesse Eisenberg (“Zombieland”), Katie Featherston (“Paranormal Activity”) and Sharlto Copley (“District 9”). The Biggest Badass Star category has laid the smackdown on Rain, Angelina Jolie, Channing Tatum, Sam Worthington and Chris Pine. And swooping in to compete for Global Superstar are Pattinson, Stewart, Lautner, Radcliffe and Johnny Depp. The Best Kiss category will feature a lip-smacking showdown of “Twilight” franchise stars: Stewart and Pattinson (“New Moon”), Stewart and Dakota Fanning (“The Runaways”), and Lautner and Taylor Swift (“Valentine’s Day”), as well as Bullock and Ryan Reynolds (“The Proposal”) and Saldana and Worthington (“Avatar”). Battling it out for Best Villain will be Jeong (“The Hangover”), Lang (“Avatar”), Christoph Waltz (“Inglourious Basterds”), Helena Bonham Carter (“Alice in Wonderland”) and Tom Felton (“Half-Blood Prince”). Orlando Bloom In Talks For ‘Three Musketeers’

Ray Stevenson, Luke Evans and Matthew Macfadyen confirmed for titular roles in Paul W.S. Anderson flick. By Adam Rosenberg Orlando Bloom Photo: Getty Images/ Frederick M. Brown Of Hollywood’s two competing “Three Musketeers” projects — one to be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, the other by Doug Liman — Anderson’s treatment just took a big, galloping lead. A big chunk of cast has been announced as either confirmed or in negotiation, including the parts of the titular musketeers, their pal d’Artagnan and the main villains. The Hollywood Reporter ‘s Heat Vision blog revealed that Ray Stevenson (“The Book of Eli”), Luke Evans (“Clash of the Titans”) and Matthew Macfadyen (“Robin Hood”) are confirmed for the roles of Porthos, Athos and Aramis, respectively, the so-called Three Musketeers. “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” star Logan Lerman is in negotiations for d’Artagnan, the young protagonist of the original Alexandre Dumas novel. On the villains’ side, Anderson has locked in two great ones: “Inglourious Basterds” Oscar-winner Christoph Waltz will play Cardinal Richelieu and “Casino Royale” villain Mads Mikkelsen is locked for Rochefort. The director’s wife, Milla Jovovich, star of Anderson’s “Resident Evil” series, also joined the cast. She’ll play Milady de Winter, a former lover of Musketeer Athos described as a “17th-century ‘Bond’ girl.” As if all of this top-tier casting isn’t enough, there’s also an offer out to Orlando Bloom for the role of the Duke of Buckingham. Anderson, who co-wrote the script with Andrew Davies, is said to be going for a “contemporary” feel while maintaining the period setting in his treatment of the story. The adaptation will also be presented in 3-D, a format that Anderson has been vocal about embracing in all of his future film work. His next effort, “Resident Evil: Afterlife,” is in 3-D and currently set for a September 10 release. What other young Hollywood actor should join the “Musketeers”? Tell us in the comments!
