Jimmy Carter Talks Tea Party And Masturbation On Daily Show

When Bill Clinton appeared on the Daily Show last week, he kept things all business, giving an intricate discussion of the ways America can fix its economy. His Democratic presidential predecessor however, was there to have fun. Jimmy Carter, promoting his new book White House Diary, was jovial from the beginning, telling Jon Stewart that he was looking forward to the Rally to Restore Sanity. He even joined in on the media’s favorite pastime of the moment; making fun of Christine O’Donnell. Stewart asked Carter if, looking over his old diary entries, he felt hope in the direction the country was going. Carter responded with a quick “no,” citing the polarization of the nation which he partly blamed on Fox News. However, he then made a point of comparing himself as a candidate to the Tea Party of today, saying he “occupied the same position,” that of being a “fresh face” going up against the establishment. Still, though, he made an important differentiation between himself and the movement; he’s never dabbled in witchcraft. If that wasn’t enough, Carter then told Stewart he had “one more confession to make.” Looking the host in the eye, Carter told him that, as a young man, he was not “100% against…” Stewart silenced him before he could finish the sentence. No matter what you feel about Jimmy Carter, how many other 85 year old former presidents are going to go on comedy shows and discuss their personal histories with…being personal? I mean, sure, Rutherford B. Hayes would have if television had been invented (legend has it that the hair on his palms were as bushy as his beard), but that’s about it. So kudos to you, Jimmy Carter! added by: TimALoftis

Chess Came from Outer Space

The most hotly contested leadership vote of the season will take place next week in the small Siberian city of Khanty-Mansiysk. Delegates from more than 100 countries will choose between two Russian candidates after a lengthy campaign filled with acrimony and allegations of corruption. The prize at stake is the top position in world chess – president of the World Chess Federation (Fide) – and the contest is being fought between former chess grandmaster Anatoly Karpov, and the current president, the eccentric Kirsan Ilyumzhinov, a millionaire and the leader of Kalmykia, an oil-rich Buddhist region on the Caspian coast. Mr Ilyumzhinov is no normal politician. He counts among his friends the American actor Chuck Norris and the late Saddam Hussein, has made chess lessons mandatory for all schoolchildren during his two decades in power in Kalmykia, and has built the largest Buddhist temple in Europe. Oh, and he also believes that chess was brought to Earth by aliens, and that if not enough people take up the game, the aliens might destroy our planet. Author of an autobiography with chapter headings that include “Without me the people are incomplete” and “It only takes two weeks to have a man killed”, Mr Ilyumzhinov has combined his political job with running Fide since 1995. Mr Ilyumzhinov met with The Independent in Moscow to put forward his platform for the Fide elections, and to share his views on life. First, though, he wanted to talk about his latest grand plan. Perturbed by protests over the “Ground Zero Mosque”, he has written to New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, offering $10m (

Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber, Other VMA Winners Thank Fans On Twitter

‘We did it together and we are just getting started!!!’ Bieber tweets to his fans. By Josh Wigler Lady Gaga after the 2010 Video Music Awards Photo: twitter.com/ladygaga “Woke up … had a good breakfast … got a smile on my face … everyone is feeling good … it’s finally here.” “It,” of course, refers to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards , and the speaker in question is none other than “Baby” singer Justin Bieber . On Sunday, Bieber — who was nominated for Best New Artist — tweeted to his legions of Twitter followers to express his excitement over the impending awards show. “Regardless of what happens, I’m lucky to have the greatest fans ever,” he wrote . “So thank you!” By the end of the night, Bieber had more than luck and his fans on his side — he also had a Moonman to call his own. “Wow. What?? Are you kidding. What!!?!” an ecstatic Bieber tweeted immediately following his win for Best New Artist . “Can’t stop smiling!” Bieber offered his thanks to a wide range of supporters, from his mother to his manager, Scooter Braun, to legendary martial artist and actor Chuck Norris . The singer acknowledged that he was likely leaving someone out, so he simply decided to thank “everybody.” “Biggest thank you in the world to the greatest fans in the world,” he wrote. “We did it together and we are just getting started!!!” Of course, Bieber wasn’t the only musician lucky enough to leave the Nokia Theatre with a shiny new trophy. Lady Gaga , for instance, went home with a walloping eight awards, including Best Pop Video, Best Female Video and Video of the Year. “Too much poetry tonight,” Lady G tweeted , along with a photo of herself , after the show was over. “But u love u, + I love I, + we were #bornthisway.” 30 Seconds to Mars frontman Jared Leto was equally grateful after winning the Best Rock Video award for “Kings and Queens.” “An unforgettable and amazing night,” he tweeted . “We are the luckiest band in the world to be able to share our lives with all of you.” Sadly, not everyone was able to claim victory at the VMAs. Drake, who lost Best Hip-Hop Video to Eminem, ended the night with his head held high despite the loss. “Thank you for all the love tonight,” he told his Twitter followers. “I had the time of my life.” Hayley Williams of Paramore had a similar outlook, despite losing Best Rock Video and three other awards for her collaboration with B.o.B on “Airplanes.” “Even though we didn’t win, our time was up on that stage,” Williams tweeted . “We had the best time performing. So we still won!” The Moonmen have all been handed out and the stars have gone home, but there’s plenty of 2010 MTV Video Music Awards news, interviews, behind-the-scenes scoop, party reports and more still to come, so keep it locked on MTVNews.com. Justin Bieber, Jaden Smith Premiere ‘Karate Kid’ Video, ‘Never Say Never’

Bieber and Smith recorded the track together for Smith’s new movie. By Jocelyn Vena Jaden Smith and Justin Bieber in their video for “Never Say Never” Photo: The Island Def Jam Music Group Justin Bieber has recorded a duet with “Karate Kid” star Jaden Smith called “Never Say Never,” for the movie’s soundtrack. The two also star in the track’s video together, with Bieber saying the clip is “Chuck Norris Approved” and referring to Smith as his “lil’ bro.” The video is a combination of recording-studio footage and scenes from “The Karate Kid,” which hits theaters on June 11. The video shows the teen pop star bouncing alongside the 11-year-old star of the flick as they lay down the vocals for the hip-hop-flavored track. While Bieber has made a career of singing about puppy love, on this song the teen sensation gets his inspirational message on singing lyrics like “I will never say never/ I will fight till forever/ Whenever you knock me down/ I will not stay on the ground/ Pick it up.” The boys goof around with one another in the clip, with Bieber flexing some karate moves and Smith proving he has what it takes to be the heir to his father Will Smith’s rapping throne when he raps during the breakdown of the song. “I can handle him/ Hold up/ I can handle him/ Now he’s bigger than me/ Taller than me/ And he’s older and stronger than me,” Smith raps. He then goes on to say that he was “raised with the power of Will (No pun intended, OK?)” so he can do just about anything, including appearing on a song with Bieber. Bieber later tweeted a message to his fans, saying, “#NeverSayNever to believing in your dreams … u all make mine come true everyday. thank u :)” What do you think of the Bieber/Smith collaboration? 30 Awesome Pogs From Our Past (Photos)

Filed under: Humor , Photos , Gaming , Art / Design , Lists What are the beautiful, bite-sized discs known as Pogs? If you’re a 90s baby, you remember them as the awesome game which everyone was obsessed by throughout grade school . Thin, cardboard circles known as ” Pogs ” were stacked and hit with heavier, thicker plastic or metal “slammers” used to try and flip them over. Pogs landing face up would then be collected by the slam artist and sometimes not returned if the game was “for keeps.” A kid’s Pog collection was often filled with images, characters and titles from his or her favorite television show, movie, or comic book. The cooler Pogs were often laminated, engraved, or sometimes holographic. Slammers could also be embellished using metal, spiked edges or even insects suspended within them. The possibilities were endless. Pogs originated from a juice made from Passionfruit, Orange and Guava. The idea didn’t come from a huge business trying to sell children some new product — kids invented it all by themselves. Although the Pogs phase fizzled out with the 90s, we love to look back in nostalgia at what we used to be so passionate about as children. Here are 30 pictures of awesome Pogs from the past. Conan O’Brien Brings Out Jim Carrey, More Celeb Pals At L.A. Show

Aziz Ansari, Jonah Hill and Jon Hamm also join Team Coco for the Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour. By Katie Byrne Conan O’Brien on stage during his “Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Televison Tour” Photo: Noel Vasquez/ Getty UNIVERSAL CITY, California — For seven short months, Conan O’Brien hosted “The Tonight Show” on the Universal Studios back lot. In a full-circle moment on Saturday night, the comedian brought his Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour to Universal Studios’ Gibson Amphitheatre, a mere 400 yards from his old stage. “This is my first time back at Universal Studios since I lost my job,” O’Brien announced to the sold-out crowd, causing the Conan-crazy fans to boo his former employer, NBC. “Don’t boo too loudly. If you listen very carefully, you can hear bad ideas being green-lit.” Aside from occasional jabs at O’Brien’s old network, the traveling variety show was nothing but a love-fest between TBS’ newest late-night host and his devoted fanbase. O’Brien even brought a few extra-special treats to L.A. (since his celeb pals didn’t have to travel too far to join him onstage), including appearances by Jonah Hill, 2010 MTV Movie Awards host Aziz Ansari and Jim Carrey as Superman. Conan O’Brien’s ‘Legally Prohibited’ Tour Invades L.A. After lamenting how tough it is to be Conan O’Brien, the funnyman launched into Five for Fighting’s “Superman (It’s Not Easy)” only to be joined in the second verse by Carrey, who emerged from the crowd in red-and-blue tights. The pair hammed it up during the duet, trading over-the-top vocal runs and awkward dance moves. The real guest-star cavalcade came during the “Walker, Texas Ranger” Lever , a staple from Conan’s late-night shows that (for legal reasons) will now be known as the Chuck Norris Rural Policeman Handle. Ansari, Hill, “Mad Men” star Jon Hamm and “30 Rock” page Jack MacBrayer all took turns pulling the handle to activate ridiculous (and completely real) “Walker” scenes. “I’m just glad I’m not one of the guys who works for NBC pulling the handle,” Hamm quipped, pointing out Ansari’s and MacBrayer’s day jobs on Peacock comedies. Conan bestie Andy Richter, former “Tonight Show” writer Deon Cole and Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog also got in on the action with bits throughout the two-hour show. Comedian Reggie Watts kick-started the night with 20 ridiculous minutes of accents, beatboxing and unintelligible lyrics. O’Brien will be back on the Gibson stage Sunday night (April 25) before heading to San Diego on Thursday. Are you planning to see Conan’s tour? Are you looking forward to his TBS show? Justin Bieber To Appear On ‘Saturday Night Live’

The pop star has been booked to perform on the comedy show’s April 10 episode. By Jocelyn Vena Justin Bieber Photo: Getty Images The demands of Justin Bieber’s fanbase have been answered by the producers of “Saturday Night Live.” Fans of the Canadian heartthrob launched a Twitter campaign, @BieberOnSNL , to get the teen phenomenon on the show, and it quickly amassed 2,600 followers. It also saw its mission realized; the pop star will be the late-night comedy show’s musical guest on April 10. Bieber has already stated that he wants to appear in one of the show’s digital shorts, which have featured the likes of Rihanna and Justin Timberlake. He sent out his request via Twitter , saying, “Shoutout to @BieberOnSNL and all the other fans who support me. It’s happening! SNL in APRIL!! Digital Short Music Vid??” The pop phenomenon didn’t mention which songs he might perform on the show, but he did mention that he already had a special guest in mind for his big debut: “Me and Chuck Norris should do SNL together,” he wrote. “That would be good. Very good.” Bieber’s “SNL” appearance comes shortly after the March 23 release of My World 2.0 , the follow-up to his 2009 album My World . Bieber recently sang the opening line in the Haiti-benefiting remake of “We Are The World,” and he just released the video for My World 2.0 ‘s first single, “Baby.” MTV News was on set with Bieber when he shot the clip, which features cameos by Drake and Ludacris. “It starts off, I really like this girl, but we didn’t [get] along; we couldn’t be together,” he said. “Basically I want her back and [I’m] kind of going through the whole thing. I’m chasing her around, trying to get her, and she’s kind of playing hard to get, but I’m persistent. I keep going.” Related Photos Justin Bieber Breaks Hearts In Canada Related Artists Justin Bieber
