Gov. Nikki Haley has ordered flags at the State House to be lowered to half-staff on the day of his funeral, her spokesman Rob Godfrey said. The Rev. Charles Jackson Sr., Brookland’s pastor, will deliver the eulogy, said I.S. Leevy Johnson, owner of Leevy’s Funeral Home, which is handling the arrangements. Burial will follow in Greenlawn cemetery at the family plot. “All of his law clerks will serve as active pallbearers and members of the state and federal judiciary will be honorary pallbearers,” said Johnson. Jay-Z And Kanye’s Watch The Throne Countdown Begins!

With just a week to go until its long-awaited release, we look back on the year-long journey to the Throne. By Rob Markman Kanye West and Jay-Z Photo: Getty Images The wait is almost over. On August 8, Jay-Z and Kanye West (now collectively known as the Throne ) will drop their long-awaited, full-length album Watch the Throne on iTunes as a digital exclusive, with physical retailers to follow on August 12. It was August 2010 when Kanye first sent the rap world buzzing when he tweeted, “Me and jay bout to drop a 5 song album called ‘Watch the Throne.’ ” By October, that five-song EP had turned into a full-length LP. West confirmed with MTV News ‘ Sway that he and Hov were going all in. Check out exclusive photos of Jay-Z and Kanye West in the studio. “We putting out a whole album now,” ‘Ye said. “We had done five [songs] so far, but then a few of them kind of were out there, and I put them on my album. Sorry, Jay,” he chuckled. “But we got some more, and we’re going to the South of France at the end of the month to just record new ideas. But we’ll probably be done with the album in a day.” Things didn’t quite work out as planned, or perhaps Kanye overstated things, but the recording took way more than 24 hours. Nevertheless, while on a promo run to promote his book told Sway that he enjoyed working with Kanye and marveled at his growth as a beatmaker and lyricist. “This is another level of that recording,” Hov said. “Because Kanye, I’ve seen him — really, he’s like a brother to me — I’ve seen him from the beginning to where he is now. And to see him as a producer and to see how he’s growing as a producer and as an artist, for me, on another level, it’s enjoyable. I’m watching the guy that I pretty much mentored become his own guy, with his own opinion. It’s fantastic.” Fanatics wouldn’t get their first taste of Watch the Throne until January 2011 when the duo released “H.A.M.,” the Lex Luger-produced energy ball that found ‘Ye and Jay trading braggadocios verses. In the end, however, ‘H.A.M.” wasn’t the big hit that fans and pundits expected. Still, expectations for the album remained high. “There’s songs on there that’s making you go crazy,” Swizz Beatz told MTV News of the project without revealing too much. “That album is amazing, but I have to let those guys talk about that, because that’s their expression. All I can tell you is it passed the bar.” Read MTV News’ first impressions of the album after an exclusive listening session. Anticipation led to multiple rumors about the LP’s release date. First, it was reported that Throne would drop on July 4. Instead, during the Fourth of July weekend, the LP was made available for pre-order . Soon after, an official track list was revealed on Jay’s Life and Times blog. The track list confirmed that Beyonc

R.I.P. A Small Mob Of Folks Show Up At The Funeral For The Texas Rangers Fan That Died Catching A Foul Ball

Shannon Stone received a hero’s send off at his funeral today. Hundreds of friends, family and well-wishers have gathered in Brownwood, Texas, for the funeral of 39-year-old Shannon Stone, who fell to his death trying to catch a souvenir baseball at a Texas Rangers game. More than three dozen Patriot Guard Riders stood quietly across from the First United Methodist Church, holding American flags while the private memorial got under way Monday. The program called for 10 fellow firefighters to carry Stone’s casket to a lone fire engine parked in front of the church. Hundreds of law enforcement personnel, black tape covering their badges, were expected to join the procession to a cemetery. Stone took his 6-year-old son, Cooper, to a Rangers game in Arlington on Thursday night. They stopped to buy the boy a glove, and sat in left field. Cooper’s favorite player, Josh Hamilton, tossed a foul ball into the stands but Stone fell about 20 feet onto concrete as he caught the ball. He died a short time later. Ladies and gentlemen please be careful at the ball park when trying to catch a foul ball or homerun. A little memorabilia isn’t worth your life… Source

Ask A Very Smart Brotha: Dating Online And The “Big Brother” Types

Dear Very Smart Brotha, I am a young girl who has known this brotha for a minute, met at church, and I look to him as my big brother, even though I have one. He is in the army and only comes to visit every 3 months or so. Recently he came back and we did the regular. Hang out with the rest of the church youth and what not. As he was leaving I leaned in to hug him and ended up getting a kiss instead, on my lips, that lasted for some minutes. I have NEVER looked at him in such way, have NEVER thought of him in such way, all he was to me was someone I could look up to when my brother acts like a jackass. After the kiss, we hung out again, this time just me and him, a day before he went back to base and the expected happened, but we didn’t go the whole 9 yards cos I’m still a virgin (and proud of it too). He said he’s been watching my character since he met me, and looks at me like his little sister, and also a lover….(should I be alarmed?) Continue reading at MadameNoire.com

Kush Chronicles: Former Employee Claims Della Reese Is A Weed-Smoking Minister Who Shadily Mismanages Funds

SMH at these folks trying to throw Della Reese under the bus for burning a lil something!! “Touched by an Angel” star DELLA REESE is a pot-smoking preacher who covered up for employees after they swindled her church out of a small fortune. That’s the shocking accusation of the TV legend’s former executive assistant Billie Hall, who claims Della and her husband Franklin Lett basically “looked the other way” while employees mismanaged funds at their Understanding Principles for Better Living Church. Even worse, Hall accused the 79- year-old actress – who’s an ordained minister – of using marijuana and asking a church employee to score dope! “I worked for Della and her husband for nine years, and I’ve seen her smoke pot on a daily basis. She was stoned when she went to the ‘Touched by an Angel’ set,” Hall told The ENQUIRER. While Della says she’s not “addicted” to pot, she admitted to The ENQUIRER: “I smoke a joint or two every now and then to relax.” A few years after the drug fiasco,Della discovered $1.5 million was missing from the church coffers. She and her husband said they traced the loss to former employees who had been cashing church checks and using church credit cards. The ENQUIRER also obtained court documents concerning allegations of misappropriation of funds, and they show that another former employee was asked to put money from the church into what the employee believed were personal accounts. Della said she informed her congregation about the missing money, but chose not to prosecute the employees. “I’m not that type of person, and I decided not to drag the church through all that,” she explained. No comment. Source

Bishop Eddie Long Accuser Arrested On Gun & Drug Charges In Miami

Read more here:

One of the four men who accused Bishop Eddie Long of sexual misconduct — the first one to speak publicly about the allegation — was arrested this week in Miami on suspicion of being a drug dealer. Jamal Parris, 24, was driving a white 2011 BMW in Miami Beach Tuesday evening when a Florida Highway Patrol officer noticed that it had no tags. After pulling the car over the approaching officer approached and smelled marijuana. A search of the car turned up 181 grams of marijuana, which is worth about $1,000 on the street. The officer also discovered 50 clear plastic baggies and a Taurus semiautomatic handgun. Parris also was carrying $1,250 in cash. Parris was arrested and jailed. He was charged with two felony counts: possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm while committing a felony. He also was charged with operating a motor vehicle with no registration, a misdemeanor. Read the full story here.
