Gavin DeGraw Speaks on Street Assault

Gavin DeGraw is speaking out for the first time since a beating on a New York street left him hospitalized . He says “all hell broke loose” August 8. Now on the mend at home, DeGraw sustained a broken nose, cuts, bruises and a concussion in a brawl that stemmed from late-night trash talk. For the first time, he’s opening up about what happened: “I met up with a couple of friends,” the singer told DC’s Hot 99.5 radio. “I was walking home, I got a few blocks and then all hell broke loose.” “Somebody said something to me I didn’t like. I let them know I didn’t like it. The first thing on my mind was, my life’s in jeopardy, and I was bleeding pretty bad… fortunately, I lived through it. It was very bloody.” He was beat up, then hit by a cab after he fleed from his assailants. Thankfully, DeGraw is feeling much better and told VH1 he is writing music as he recovers from his injuries. He’s also grateful to his fans. “I’m feeling much better, but it will take a little bit more time to be back to 100 percent! I’m overwhelmed with the outpouring of support from my fans, friends and family. I can’t wait to get back out on tour,” he said. Casey Anthony Reports to Probation; Whereabouts, Details Top Secret

Casey Anthony has reported to probation in Florida, but don’t expect a public address or list of her weekly requirements. Everything is TOP secret. Anthony showed up at the Florida Department of Corrections last night to begin serving her one-year probation sentence for a check fraud case. Casey, who was released from jail July 17 after being acquitted of murder in the death of 2-year-old daughter Caylee, had until Friday at noon to report. She must remain in Florida for the next year to serve probation. Florida corrections officials said in a press release that given the strong potential for death threats against Casey Anthony , her file will be kept confidential. The FDOC said, “The court has directed us to keep confidential the offender’s residence or any information that could lead to the discovery of her location.” This is due solely to “the death threats against her.” The statement continues, “Therefore, she will not be identified in our database, nor will her probation officer’s name or probation location be made public.”

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Gather for Russell Armstrong Funeral

Russell Armstrong was laid to rest at the Church of the Hills-Forest Lawn in the Hollywood Hills yesterday. There’s little to actually report because, thank goodness, Bravo did NOT film the event, but we know all cast members from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills were on hand to support Taylor Armstrong. Sources confirm that Russell’s remains will then be sent to Texas for a second service, as Taylor has been clashing with his family. From there, the body will be cremated and the ashes divided between Taylor and her in-laws. It’s still unclear how Bravo will handle the season premiere of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills . In the most recent news related to this tragedy, Entertainment Tonight has discussed photos of Taylor in detail , taken after an alleged beating from her husband.

One Pastor Wages War On Obesity In His Congregation & Sees Victory

Obesity is a leading killer in the African American community. Churches all across the country are getting in the fight for health. They are offering dental care giving out health care kits and getting in the fight to save our families. One such church in the heart of the Delta  has been fighting the good fight  for over a decade. Now, he has the support  of  The National Baptist Convention. For over a decade from his pulpit here at Oak Hill Baptist in North Mississippi, the Rev. Michael O. Minor has waged war against obesity and bad health. In the Delta this may seem akin to waging war against humidity, but Mr. Minor has the air of the salesman he once was, and the animated persistence to match. Years into his war, he is beginning to claim victories. The National Baptist Convention, which represents some seven million people in nearly 10,000 churches, is ramping up a far-reaching health campaign devised by Mr. Minor, which aims to have a “health ambassador” in every member church by September 2012. The goals of the program, the most ambitious of its kind, will be demanding but concrete, said the Rev. George W. Waddles Sr., the president of the convention’s Congress of Christian Education. The signs of change in the Delta may be most noticeable because they are the most hard-fought. A sign in the kitchen of First Baptist Church in Clarksdale declares it a “No Fry Zone.” Bel Mount Missionary Baptist Church in the sleepy hamlet of Marks just had its first Taste Test Sunday, where the women of the church put out a spread of healthier foods, like sugar-free apple pie, to convince members that healthy cuisine does not have to taste like old tires. Carved out of the fields behind Seek Well Baptist Church in the tiny town of Lula is a new community garden. The pastor, the Rev. Kevin Wiley, is even thinking about becoming a vegetarian, a sort of person he says he has never met in the Delta. Many pastors tell the same story: They started worrying about their own health, but were motivated to push their congregations by the campaign that began in Mr. Minor’s church. On the day of its digital release last week, Kanye West and Jay-Z ‘s tag-team album saw a handful of its tracks become trending topics on Twitter. “No Church in the Wild,” “Gotta Have It” and “Who Gon Stop Me” all stood as fan favorites, at least initially, but it seems that no matter who you ask, everyone has a different favorite from WTT . “My favorite record off the album is ‘New Day,’ produced by the RZA,” said New York’s Power 105 morning-show host Charlamagne Tha God. “The record about Kanye and Jay rapping about their unborn sons, that’s ill to me.” Read what the critics thought of Watch the Throne . On “New Day” Kanye express his life’s regrets in a lyrical letter to his future son. Despite a fifth accuser surfacing recently, Bishop Eddie Long has returned to full time ministry. The New Birth Missionary Baptist Church leader was the keynote speaker at a conference in South Africa recently. As we previously reported, even though he vowed to fight the charges Long settled out of court with four men who accused him of sexual misconduct. Watch the video below. The two-day clinic at First Baptist Church of Woodstock on Hwy. 92 is being sponsored by the Georgia Dental Association and its Foundation for Oral Health. Baptists In Louisiana Help Texas Farmers During Drought “The line went around the building, all the way through the parking lot and around a warehouse,” said Dr. Richard Smith, who practices in Atlanta. He estimated the line at 2,000 yards and said that at its peak, 4,000 people were in line. UGA student Jasen Scrivens, 24, of Winder arrived at 1 a.m. hoping to have some unfinished dental work completed. President Meets Circle Of Protection To Talk About Poverty “About three months ago I had some work done and it cost me a good bit of money and I never got it finished — I couldn’t afford the rest of it — so I came to see if I could get the rest of it done,” he said. He estimated he had spent $3,800 on the work so far.

‘Jackass’ Team Planning Ryan Dunn MTV Tribute

Director Jeff Tremaine hopes special will ‘celebrate his life.’ By James Montgomery Ryan Dunn Photo: Michael Buckner/ Getty Images In the time since his death, “Jackass” star Ryan Dunn has been remembered by his friends and fans, and his life was celebrated in a special tribute video played during a memorial service held in Los Angeles. Now, his “Jackass” associates are planning to honor his legacy with an MTV special, which will feature his greatest moments — and never-before-seen outtakes — from the wildly popular stunt show and subsequent feature films. That’s according to “Jackass” director Jeff Tremaine, who spoke to entertainment site Screen Junkies following MTV’s presentation at the annual Television Critics Association press tour in Los Angeles. “We’re gearing up to do a tribute to Ryan,” Tremaine told the site. “That’s our next project. [His death] hurt pretty bad. It’s hurt everybody, but we want to celebrate his life and show everybody. We have just such an amazing bank of footage of him. We’re going to dig it all up so we’ll discover it too.” A spokesperson for MTV couldn’t be reached for comment by press time, but Tremaine said he hopes the Dunn special will air in the fall and will include new interviews with the late star’s “Jackass” associates. He also hinted that the show may finally reveal some classic footage that, so far, has remained in the vaults of Dickhouse Productions — for various reasons. “There’s always been the Van Surfing, him and Chris [Pontius] re-enacting a scene from ‘Teen Wolf’ that didn’t go well,” he said. “Ryan was riding on the roof of the van and the van was speeding towards a body of water, stopped a little bit short. He made it to the water but the water was only like five inches deep, slammed pretty bad. According to Us, Mulligan is engaged (for real this time) to boyfriend Marcus Mumford. The Mumford & Sons frontman, 24, reportedly popped the question to Mulligan, 26. The pair first got together five months ago, when the “Drive” actress went to a secret Mumford & Sons show with her buddy Jake Gyllenhaal. (Mumford and Mulligan are also said to have been childhood pen pals through their church in London.) Their supposed engagement was first reported on July 26, but Us claimed on Wednesday (August 3) that they got the latest scoop from an insider close to the couple. “They’re a great couple,” the source told the magazine, “very sweet.” Both stars had recently split with their significant others when they reconnected in February.
