2010 MTV Movie Awards First Act: Kristen Stewart Vs. Zoe Saldana, Aziz Ansari Spoofs Films, And More!

First act will wrap with Kristen Stewart, Zoe Saldana, others facing off for Best Female Performance award. By Eric Ditzian Aziz Ansari UNIVERSAL CITY, California — All week long, we’ve been running around the Gibson Amphitheatre as the 2010 MTV Movie Awards come to life in front of our eyes: the celebrity participants, the action-packed performances, the oodles of surprise moments that we’ve got in store for you come Sunday night’s live show. And at every turn, we’ve been bringing you Movie Awards teasers about it all. Then it hit us: Enough with these nuggets of insidery goodness! Let’s just pull back the curtain and tell you exactly what’s in the pipeline for the show’s first act. The Movie Awards will kick off with a special message from the show’s tough-talking executive producer Les Grossman . You’ll then see the list of celebs appearing during the show — names like Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner, Christina Aguilera, Katy Perry, Cameron Diaz, Zac Efron, Vanessa Hudgens, Sean “Diddy” Combs and many more. It wouldn’t be a proper Movie Awards without a slew of movie spoofs, and that’s exactly what you’ll get next. Host Aziz Ansari will be popping up in twisted takes on the year’s top films. Which flicks will he spoof? Stay tuned. (You didn’t think we’d tell you everything, did you?) From there, Aziz will make an over-the-top entrance. “He’ll arrive onstage in a special vehicle,” hinted supervising producer Jane Mun. “It’s a surprise.” Once onstage, Aziz will launch into his monologue. Following the host’s string of jokes, the cast of “Grown Ups” — Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade and Rob Schneider — will take the stage. “They have a really fun onstage script that they have been crafting for the last two weeks,” Mun said. And then it’s time for the first award of the evening: Best Female Performance. Kristen Stewart (“New Moon”) will face off against Amanda Seyfried (“Dear John”), Emma Watson (“Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince”), Sandra Bullock (“The Blind Side”) and Zoe Saldana (“Avatar”). While the winner of that award will have already been decided by the time the show starts at 9 p.m. ET on Sunday, June 6, the Best Movie category will remain open for fan voting throughout the show. And that’s how we’ll end the first act of the Movie Awards: with a reminder to get out the vote for your favorite film. But what are you waiting for? Eminem’s ‘Not Afraid’ Video Premieres

Slim Shady soars through Newark like a superhero in heavily symbolic new clip. By Shaheem Reid Eminem in “Not Afraid” Photo: Interscope Eminem’s video for “Not Afraid,” the first offering from his June 22 release Recovery, has premiered. Directed by Richard Lee, the video starts with Eminem standing on a rooftop ledge that overlooks New Jersey. As he says with his opening lines, the clip shifts to a basement, where Slim Shady is rhyming on the steps, then standing. The video goes back to the rooftop, where Em goes closer to edge. The shot could be taken as a metaphor for his life. Last year, the Grammy Award winner very openly told his story of being in a drug-induced haze for years. He said his addiction was so horrific, he almost overdosed and died. Just like in real life, Em stops short of going off the ledge in the video. Instead, he marches on busy Market Street in downtown Newark. As he’s walking through traffic, he looks in a car window and his face looks distorted. He suddenly seems to be to walking in a hall of mirrors, where he’s forced to take a very close look at himself. Marshall Mathers eventually jumps through one of the mirrors and lands back on Market Street. This time however, instead of being filled with pedestrians, the usually crowded shopping district is empty. (This scene is intercut with one of him back in the basement, breaking through the bricks with his bare fists to reveal a blinding light outside.) Em then walks alone to the end of the block and stops. There is no more street to walk. Civilization has been totally decimated, and everything beyond the block is in ruins. He jumps off the cliff and falls peacefully, but he never hits the bottom. He starts flying out of the abyss and back into the city, which is now filled with people once again. Shady flies so fast down the streets, he breaks car windows when he speeds by. Ultimately, he lands on the same ledge on which he started the video. After Peruvian officials announced Wednesday that Joran van der Sloot is the prime suspect in the death of 21-year-old Stephany Flores in a Lima hotel, Chilean police confirmed he had entered their country two days earlier. Chilean Police Inspector Douglas Rodriguez in Arica told The Associated Press there was no record of van der Sloot leaving Chile and authorities were searching the country's dry, sparsely populated northern provinces for him. In Lima, police Gen. Cesar Guardia said at a news conference that the slain woman was found Wednesday in a room at a hotel where van der Sloot had been staying and that she had been seen with the suspect early Sunday, when she was killed. The killing occurred exactly five years after the May 30, 2005, disappearance of Alabama teen Natalee Holloway during a high school trip in Aruba, a Dutch Caribbean island where van der Sloot's late father was a prominent judge. Prosecutors said van der Sloot is still their main suspect in the case even though he was never charged. The Dutch government said Interpol issued an international arrest warrant for van der Sloot in the Peru killing. But Rodriguez, the Chilean police official, said authorities there had received only a request to locate the suspect, not an arrest warrant. Guardia, the Peruvian police general, said the 22-year-old Dutchman was in Peru for a poker tournament and appears with the dead woman in a video taken at a Lima casino early Sunday. The two were later seen entering the hotel by one of its employees about 5 a.m. and the Dutchman departed alone about four hours later, he said. “We have an interview with a worker at the hotel who says she saw this foreigner with the victim enter his room,” said Guardia. The woman's body was found face down on the hotel room floor Wednesday, abrasions on her face and body, and signs of trauma, Guardia said. He said she was clothed. Asked if she had been asphyxiated, Guardia said he was waiting for autopsy results on the cause of death. MORE ON LINK added by: 02

Israel stations nuclear missile subs off Iran – Times Online

Three German-built Israeli submarines equipped with nuclear cruise missiles are to be deployed in the Gulf near the Iranian coastline. The first has been sent in response to Israeli fears that ballistic missiles developed by Iran, Syria and Hezbollah, a political and military organisation in Lebanon, could hit sites in Israel, including air bases and missile launchers. The submarines of Flotilla 7 — Dolphin, Tekuma and Leviathan — have visited the Gulf before. But the decision has now been taken to ensure a permanent presence of at least one of the vessels. The flotilla’s commander, identified only as “Colonel O”, told an Israeli newspaper: “We are an underwater assault force. We’re operating deep and far, very far, from our borders.” Each of the submarines has a crew of 35 to 50, commanded by a colonel capable of launching a nuclear cruise missile. The vessels can remain at sea for about 50 days and stay submerged up to 1,150ft below the surface for at least a week. Some of the cruise missiles are equipped with the most advanced nuclear warheads in the Israeli arsenal. The deployment is designed to act as a deterrent, gather intelligence and potentially to land Mossad agents. “We’re a solid base for collecting sensitive information, as we can stay for a long time in one place,” said a flotilla officer. The submarines could be used if Iran continues its programme to produce a nuclear bomb. “The 1,500km range of the submarines’ cruise missiles can reach any target in Iran,” said a navy officer. Apparently responding to the Israeli activity, an Iranian admiral said: “Anyone who wishes to do an evil act in the Persian Gulf will receive a forceful response from us.” Israel’s urgent need to deter the Iran-Syria-Hezbollah alliance was demonstrated last month. Ehud Barak, the defence minister, was said to have shown President Barack Obama classified satellite images of a convoy of ballistic missiles leaving Syria on the way to Hezbollah in Lebanon. Binyamin Netanyahu, the prime minister, will emphasise the danger to Obama in Washington this week. Tel Aviv, Israel’s business and defence centre, remains the most threatened city in the world, said one expert. “There are more missiles per square foot targeting Tel Aviv than any other city,” he said. added by: Monkey_Films

QUACK-QUACK! Where to Find This Week’s Awesomest Critical Skirmish

So there’s this documentary called Burzynski opening this week in New York City. I haven’t seen it and had never even heard of it before last night. But oh, what an introduction at The Village Voice , where critic Ella Taylor — perhaps still rinsing bile residue after her Sex and the City 2 takedown — absolutely trashed the film, its subject and its director. And then came the defenders trashing Taylor. Wait — what the hell is a Burzynski again?

Taylor Swift: Number-One Mission, Accomplished!

It’s not as extreme as the makeover Lance Bass recently underwent , but Taylor Swift changes her look a bit in the latest issue of Marie Claire . The young singer pulls up her hair and looks more serious than ever in a photo from the magazine. For someone known as much for her smile and bubbly personality as her impressive career so far, this is freaking us out a bit… Inside the issue, Swift talks about her early success and how setting goals for herself was a helpful way of keeping her focus and priorities straight: “I love having a goal, feeling like I’m on a mission. I love trying to beat what I’ve done so far. I knew that everything I wanted to happen could happen in Nashville. So it became my number-one goal to get there somehow.” She’s done more than just get there, that’s for certain. Unfortunately, the city in question is still recovering from massive flooding in April, a situation Taylor has spoken out and prayed over . Meanwhile, to purchase any of the outfits Taylor is wearing here, visit the THG Style Store today!
