Get Your Charity Together: Wyclef Put On Blast Once Again About What Yele Haiti Is Doing With Their Donors’ Money

The mayor of the city of North Miami may have thought Wyclef ‘s do-gooder-ness was worthy of recognition last week, but people are stil giving him and his Yele Haiti foundation the side-eye. Yele Haiti’s coffers swelled to $16 million in 2010, the most the charity had ever received. But less than a third of that went to emergency efforts, and $1 million was paid to a Florida firm that doesn’t seem to exist, The Post has learned. Jean’s charity, which he founded in 2005 with his cousin Jerry Duplessis, was already troubled when the earthquake struck Haiti on Jan. 12, 2010. The Post reported in 2008 that it had never filed a required tax form detailing its spending with the IRS. The group lost $244,000 in 2009. But hours after the earthquake hit, Jean took to Twitter to beg for $5 donations. An avalanche of donations poured in. Almost immediately, allegations surfaced that the former Fugees singer had used the charity’s cash for his own benefit. Critics found that four years earlier Yele Haiti had steered $250,000 to a Haitian TV station controlled by Jean and Duplessis. Jean held a Jan. 18, 2010, press conference to tearfully defend Yele Haiti’s reputation. “Have we made mistakes before? Yes,” Jean said. “Did I ever use Yele money for personal benefits? Absolutely not. Yele’s books are open and transparent.” The earthquake killed between 200,000 and 300,000 Haitians and left a million homeless. The country is still in the grip of a cholera epidemic. For all the desperation, records show that Yele Haiti spent just $5.1 million for emergency relief efforts, including food and water delivery to makeshift survivor camps, according to a review of the charity’s 2010 tax filings, which were obtained by The Post. Yele Haiti paid five contractors to accomplish its goals, including P&A Construction — which received $353,983 and is run by Warnel Pierre, the brother of Jean’s wife, Claudinette. A purported Miami business called Amisphere Farm Labor Inc. received a whopping $1,008,000 as a “food distributor.” No trace of the company could be found last week in the Sunshine State, but records show the company’s head, Amsterly Pierre, bought three properties in Florida last year, including a condo in an upscale waterfront community. The firm incorporated in August 2008 but never filed any of the subsequent financial paperwork required to do business in Florida, according to the Florida Department of State. The address listed for the business is an auto-repair shop in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood, where a worker said he had never heard of Pierre or Amisphere. Pierre did not return a call for comment. Yele Haiti also paid $577,185 to a company called Samosa SA, based in the Haitian capital of Port-au-Prince, as a “bulk water supplier.” But some of that money went to rent a house for Yele Haiti volunteers on Samosa’s property at the inflated price of $35,000 a month. “Given the fact that Yele Haiti was involved in a swirl of controversy after the earthquake in Haiti, it’s all the more reason to be more transparent to ensure donors that their funds are going to help people,” said the Better Business Bureau’s Bennett Weiner. In Clef’s defense, a lot of charities’ hands have been tied by red tape and political BS in Haiti following the earthquake, due to the fact that the outbound government at the time wasn’t necessarily all that interested in seeing the country move forward. Yele also wouldn’t be the first American-based charity to partner with people who didn’t necessarily have the best intentions when it came to actually helping Haiti. But you would think, at this point, Wyclef would do a better job of covering his a$$ and making sure everything he and Yele did was on the money… Source

Elizabeth Olsen Talks ‘Amazing’ 2011

Actress’ banner year has been ‘learning experience,’ she tells MTV News as part of Thankful Week. By Eric Ditzian Elizabeth Olsen Photo: MTV News By any sort of Hollywood metric, Elizabeth Olsen has had a wonderful year. In January, the actress became the talk of Sundance with the debut of the harrowing drama “Martha Marcy May Marlene” and a claustrophobic horror flick, “Silent House.” In subsequent months she took on roles opposite everyone from Zac Efron to Robert De Niro, and she’ll soon star with Glenn Close in the period drama “Therese Raquin.” And as 2011 inches to a close, her name has cropped up in awards-season talk: She’s already nabbed an ensemble Gotham Awards nomination and could well find herself in the Golden Globe and Oscar mix. Not bad. But when you consider this is the first year that Olsen has been on the entertainment scene — unless you count long-ago appearances with her sisters in those “Adventures of Mary-Kate and Ashley” musicals — the 22-year-old’s 2011 goes from generally wonderful to simply magical (and no doubt jealousy-inducing for her peers). And that’s why we’ve named Elizabeth Olsen one of the actresses we’re most thankful for this year. We recently sat down with her to look back at her accomplishments, to look forward to what she has coming down the line, and to find out what she’ll do if she ends up winning awards this season. MTV News : You know you might have to start giving some speeches soon … Elizabeth Olsen : I have zero expectation on any of that. I didn’t even have anything beforehand that I could think the movie would become what it has become, with a great distributor, good buzz. This year has been such a learning experience. It’s been amazing. I feel like I have an understanding of so many different aspects after making a movie. Before I didn’t even know how to make a movie, and then I realized I didn’t even know how to promote a movie, and then I realized there’s a whole process of doing that that’s even longer than making the movie. You just have to be thankful that you have the opportunity to get to do that and people want to talk to you about your work. MTV : Is there one surreal moment from this year that encapsulates what a crazy run you’ve been having? Olsen : The first thing that came to my head when you said that was I remember when I finished making [“Martha Marcy”] and I had dinner with my friend in the East Village. I was totally thrown off because I was in upstate New York for three months, and then I was in the East Village on a Saturday night and was so confused that people acted the way they acted. I was like, “Why are people so abrasive? It’s so weird.” I remember telling my friend, talking about making this movie, that I literally had the best experience of my life working on something. And that’s including all the fun stuff you made with your friends in elementary school. MTV : Speaking of promoting a film, do you read your own press at this point? Olsen : At this point I’m interested in those things. Give me a couple months and I probably won’t be. I don’t know why. I think those opinions change all the time. Right now I’m just interested because I’m fascinated by the movie so I’m fascinated about what people think and get from the movie, because it is very unique. MTV : Your co-star John Hawkes has compared your performance in “Martha Marcy” to Jennifer Lawrence’s in “Winter’s Bone.” With “Hunger Games” she’s now made the leap to a high-profile franchise. Is it only a matter of time before we see you in a “Transformers” or a “Spider-Man”? Olsen : I don’t know, but I don’t think so. I’m just trying to pick whatever’s most interesting to me at that point. I’m not trying to think of things studio or non-studio. There are a bunch of things I’d like to do in 2012 that are all very different from each other. What they all have in common are amazing people to work with and an interesting character to try and create. MTV : Above and beyond the acting, do you have ambitions to write or direct? Olsen : No, I don’t. I like doing this. Dialogue I’m very bad at. I do like writing essays. MTV : That is kind of nerdy. Olsen : I know! I like writing essays. I have to write one tonight. So much fun! MTV : Have you adjusted to being on set away from friends and family? Because that experience can be isolating. Olsen : I would like to think that I’m really good at adjusting to changes. But I’m not as good as I thought I was. When I was working in Spain, that was really hard. It was a long shoot and it was Spain and I was coming in the middle of shooting, so everyone had already been there for six weeks and no one was going out to explore the city anymore. I was just by myself. But in situations like that, you do call your family. My sisters came and visited me. It was hard to be there and not even have the option of making a quick phone call and meeting up with someone. But now when I look back on being in Spain, I don’t really think of it as being lonely. But at the moment, you know, I thought I really knew what loneliness was. I was like, “This is so lonely!” MTV : Let’s talk about “Very Good Girls,” in which you’ll be co-starring with Dakota Fanning. When is that shoot going to happen? Olsen : We have to wait, because it’s set in New York in the summertime. We’ll do it next year. Dakota and I know each other, since we have the same mutual friends and went to the same high school. We’ve had dinner with the director, just chatting and trying to figure out what we can do to maybe change the script a bit, change scenes. MTV : What was the key thing that attracted you to the role? Olsen : The thing that’s great about this script is I treat my relationships with my girlfriends as family and as probably the most important relationships in my life. I’ve had the same friends since I was in kindergarten. I feel like a lot of times in film and television, you don’t get a chance to understand that type of relationship. “Sex in the City” is the closest thing you get to it. I think [“Very Good Girls”] is a great depiction of two young girls’ friendship when they’re graduating high school. MTV : It seems like this role is the closest to your experience. Olsen : Totally. It’s important to be in a film like that. And everyone involved is going to be great to work with. Check out everything we’ve got on “Martha Marcy May Marlene.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Is LisaRaye Engaged To A Mega Pastor?

Read more here:

Rumor has it that LisaRaye is engaged to mega pastor Noel Jones, who is the brother of Grace Jones! LisaRaye has been been dating the well-known pastor of the City of Refuge for quite some time and it looks as though they’re taking it to the next level. Both have been married before and we know how LisaRaye’s played out and Pastor Jones use to ‘kick-it’ with NeNe Leakes, but that didn’t work out because she had too much baggage. (ya think!) I’m also hearing that LisaRaye is trying to shop a reality show on behalf of Pastor Jones, called Keeping Up With the Joneses. Get your hustle on girl! Holding Justin’s hand, being at the Today show, and an appearance on TMZ… No I’m not a celebrity, I’m just another Belieber with a dream.  My Bieber Experience consisted of 42 whole hours of various amazing Bieber adventures. I wish I had more pictures but I was just living in the moment with Bieber, Bieber and more Bieber. I can’t believe I am sitting here writing my SECOND Bieber experience I truly believe in never say never after these to experiences! Here is the link to my first experience with Justin ,  it just goes to show if you are determined, it WILL happen, Never give up! This last experience all started when I found out that Justin was going to be on the Today show in NYC and I knew immediately I had to be there. The day finally came, I took the train from Jersey and I found myself in NYC and the waiting game began. I printed out my picture of Justin and I in LA because I wanted to see if he would sign it and maybe, just maybe he would remember me. I was about 15 th  in line and was so excited. We set up camp and were ready to wait in the cold for the opportunity to meet Justin. The Mistletoe van arrived and we all knew it was getting close to show time. At around 6:00AM we started to get ready. We filled in the barricades outside the Today Show. I was across from the doors where Justin would come out! Finally I saw Scooter, Alfredo and Kenny inside and I knew this was it. Then I saw Justin , looking incredible as always. I was standing across from the doors but when we came out he went to the right, in the opposite direction of me! Little did I know that waiting for him to come to my side would all pay off in the end. He went back inside and the anticipation just kept growing. My hands were numb from the cold but once I saw him coming back out I grabbed my picture and phone and I was ready. I held my picture out, said hi to Kenny and Alfredo and then there was Justin. Pretty much the whole time, he was walking with his head down going fast signing things. When he came to my picture, I asked, “Justin! Do you remember me from Compton!?” As he was signing, I saw him pause then look close at my picture, then looked he looked up, his eyes met mine  and he gave me a smile like he was so proud he had remembered. Then he said “HEYYYY nice to see you again”. I about died!!! Just the way he looked at me, like hey I know you! I knew then he remembered me!!!  His smile was so precious. I still can’t get it out of my mind. I was so excited and wanted to give him a HUGE hug, it was freezing and I would have no problem with Justin warming me up. Here is a video I found of some clips from the Today Show.  After Justin’s interview we waited for him to leave. When his car pulled out, my adrenaline kicked in! I just started booking it ha-ha. His car stopped, he rolled down his window, and there I was again for the second time that day inches from Justin’s face. He was smiling and talking to the group of us until a paparazzi guy, later I found out he was a TMZ guy. ( You can see me on the video here ). He brought up the baby mama drama.  The look on Justin’s face just went from total happiness because he was with his fans to disappointment. We all started yelling at him and I screamed, “Are you Kidding Me???” Justin said, “Sorry guys”, rolled up the window and drove away. A couple hours later it was time to go to the  Michael  Buble’s Christmas Special where Justin was going to perform. My friend had won tickets through BieberFever.com!!  At this point I had not slept or left the city for over 20hrs. I found a bathroom and tried to make myself look half way decent (hence why my picture with Alfredo I look half asleep). We had to get to Brooklyn by 1:15PM so we decided to take the subways. This turned out to be a disaster. Some of the trains weren’t running! We thought we weren’t going to make it, the panic set in. We made the last minute decision to get a taxi. When we got in the driver explained he had no idea where he was going and had no GPS. Well, just our luck we thought. So I start to look up directions on my phone… IT DIES!! How wonderful. We got out of the taxi and looked like 2 little lost children on the side of the road. We had about given up all hope at this point and figured that we would be late and they wouldn’t let us in. Then out of nowhere I spot a Starbucks!! What a lifesaver! We ran in, plugged in my phone and to our amazement we found out we were only about 8 minutes away. So with the little battery I had, we found another taxi cab driver who was AMAZING! We told him our whole ordeal and he said he “Would get us to Justin no matter what”.  Just in time, we found the studio where they were taping. It was such a relief to see everyone still standing outside. We got our wristbands and then found our seats. Our seats were on the side were the performers entered and exited. Micheal Buble came out joked around and sang some songs with various artists. Then there was a little intermission for Justin to set up. As we were leaving to go outside during the intermission, I saw Dan Kanter and said “Hey Dan”, he turned back and looked surprised that someone said Hi, but how could you not say Hi to Dan? We stood out in the FREEZING cold again for like 45mins which sucked but again the waiting was worth it. We came back in, went to our seats and it wasn’t long until Kenny and Alfredo came walking up right next to us. We were the only Bieber fans in our section of 30 people and the guy next to me was like “How do you know his whole team?” He was so shocked how loyal Justin’s fans are. As we were yelling I had a lot of awkward eye contact with Kenny and Alfredo, they kept looking back at us laughing because we were having such a good time. When Justin came out he it was just another surreal moment. He was so close! Justin and Michael did little monologue with each other. We caught Alfredo tweeting and yelled at him saying, “Hey we see you tweeting over there Fredo!” Then Kenny looked back up to us again, and I said “Hey Kenny where’s our Pizza?? Do you remember us??” (long story short, Kenny bought us pizza one night when we were waiting for Justin) He points, smiles and goes “YEAH!! HEY!” I freaked, not only did Justin remember me but Kenny too. Is this real life?? There was this lady there that was sort of running the show, telling jokes in between performers and she goes, “Who is excited Justin touched their hand??” Well without even thinking I yell, “I wanna be touched by Justin”… Alfredo sure found that amusing. So then after Justin did a little dialogue with Michael, he sang Mistletoe. If I thought it sounded phenomenal before, it sounds even better live. I am so proud to be a fan of an artist that is so talented and caring towards his fans. The first time he sang, only the Bieber fans stood up and were dancing and singing. When the song ended Justin goes, “Ok guys it’s the Christmas season you are supposed to be excited. I want to see everyone standing and dancing enjoying themselves this time. Let’s do it again.” Kenny came over to our sections and was yeah listen to him. I said “Yeah get up!! Have fun!! It’s Justin Bieber” , Kenny and Alfredo both looked at me like Good Job!! We got everyone in our sections to stand and dance along with Justin. Alfredo and Kenny were getting down too and kept turning around. I love them! After the second performance it was time for Justin to go because he was catching a flight to the EMA’s. I knew he was going to walk right by me to exit the building! As he walked past, I held my hand out and said “Justin!!” He walked past my hand and I thought to myself oh well I tried. To my amazement I saw he turned around, he reached up looked at me, held my hand tight and said “HEY” like he remembered me again!! Are you kidding me?? Is this really happening again?? I smiled and he walked off. We thought we could catch him as he was leaving in his car so we rushed outside and luckily saw that all the cars were still there. Then we spotted Alfredo! I had always wanted a picture with him and he was talking to fans, taking pictures so I knew I had a chance, but then security started yelling at us saying we had to leave and go across the street. Alfredo goes, “Okay guys lets go over there and make these pictures happen!!” He is so sweet. He is so down to earth and just seems like such a fun person to hang out with. I got my picture and thanked him. He walked to the cars and we waited for Justin. They started pulling out and we spotted Justin in the car, again I ran for the car looking like a nut. He stopped, rolled down the window and took some pictures with fans. Since I had seen him so many times that day, I stood towards the back to let others have a chance but I was still very close to him. He seemed in a rush so it was short but he was all smiles, laughing and then he said he had to go and they drove off. Overall I couldn’t be more thankful for everything that happened. With all the rumors and crap going around it’s nice to see Justin and his team in person and it puts it in perspective of why I love them so much. He didn’t have to stop so many times but he did. I am so grateful for both my Bieber experiences and believe that everyone deserves and WILL have a shot at meeting him. Never give up and hard work will pay off! Thanks for reading!! –Briana @ItsJustMe_Brie See original here: Holding Justin’s hand, being at the Today show, and an…

Russell Simmons, ?uestlove React To Zuccotti Park Raid

More celebs weigh in after Roots drummer tried to warn Occupy Wall Street protesters of police action via Twitter. By Gil Kaufman Russell Simmons Photo: MTV News Roots drummer ?uestlove just happened to be driving by New York’s Zuccotti Park late Monday night when he noticed something odd happening at the Occupy Wall Street site. “OMG, drivin down south st. near #OWS. Somethin bout to go down yo, swear I counted 1,000 riot gear cops bout to pull sneak attack #carefulyall,” he tweeted around midnight. He wasn’t wrong, as a short time later the NYPD stormed the site of the sit-in protest and forcibly removed the residents of “Freedom Park” in order to clean up the public square. Quest continued to issue his warnings for about an hour after his initial tweet, finally getting confirmation from fellow Twitter users a short time later that his suspicions were true. “I was tryna downplay it 1ce tweets were discrediting me,” he wrote once the raid was underway in the early Tuesday morning (November 15) hours. “But I swear I saw like 6 city blocks of nothin but riot gear cops under my bridge.” The Roots drummer wasn’t the only one who noticed some late night action in the vicinity. Comedian Kathy Griffin posted a tweet after leaving the Larry King Friars Club roast on Monday night, writing , “Whoa! On my late nite NYC walk. Passed Zuccoti park, saw a large group of people running. Nypd walking in formation in riot gear.” Click through to “Voices From Occupy Wall Street” — our interactive photo gallery — and get to know 20 young demonstrators’ motivations, hopes and goals. Hip-hop icon Russell Simmons urged protesters to keep up the fight. The Def Jam co-founder, who is slated to visit the Occupy Boston site on Tuesday and make what he called a “major” announcement that will “promote more equal and just democracy,” tweeted about the new location OWS members headed toward following the raid. “Foley square is the new zucootti for now here in the city..fyi #occupywallstreet,” he wrote early Tuesday morning. Russell Brand, who had visited OWS with Simmons, was none too pleased, writing , “#OWS moved out of Liberty Park ‘because they’re blocking 1st responders’- here’s my 1st response ‘that’s bull—t.’ ” There were plenty of others who weighed in as well, including Huffington Post founder Arianna Huffington, who lamented , “Quite a message to send — destroying, reportedly, 5K books at #OWS.” Actor/activist Mark Ruffalo added , “People in Liberty Park were pepper sprayed. Police beat women. Press pushed out so they could not witness the crackdown. Dehumanizing 99%#Ows.” Filmmaker Michael Moore promised that this was not the end, tweeting , “Phase Two of this massive, nonviolent MAJORITY movement will now commence. Wall St will wish they had just left it alone in the park. #ows,” while Public Enemy leader Chuck D said , “The People are thrown into the abyss of believing a flawed system. Thrown off track, thrown at, thrown a bone with the meat cleaned off it.” Share your thoughts on the Occupy movement in the comments below. Lady Gaga And Laurieann Gibson: The Way They Were

After meeting in 2007, creative director went on to put her stamp on many of the pop superstar’s most memorable creations. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Getty Images On Monday (November 14), Lady Gaga and Laurieann Gibson confirmed their split, ending a creative partnership that dated back to the beginning of the pop star’s career. Gibson first teamed up with Mother Monster in 2007 , when the choreographer helped her most famous Dream Warrior with a live routine for her Fame track “Boys Boys Boys.” The two ladies shared a similar background, both drawing inspiration from the singer’s hometown of New York City, where Gaibson had arrived many years before meeting Gaga, hoping to make it as a dancer. In August, Gibson explained to MTV News that Gaga’s Nick Knight-directed “Born This Way” video was meant to pay homage to their love for the city. “This was the place that we started. This was the place that birthed her. This was the place that birthed my dance,” Gibson told us. “New York just has something so real about birthing something specific.” In the years since they first hooked up, the two women have forged one of the most close-knit, high-profile relationships in pop. Gibson has had credits on nearly every Lady Gaga video released so far, including “Poker Face,” “Just Dance,” “Telephone,” “Alejandro,” and “Born This Way.” But she has also worked closely with the singer on her live performances and massive stage shows . Among members of Gaga’s elusive Haus of Gaga, Gibson is certainly one of the most public. Over the course of the past 12 months, the former “Fly Girl” rose to prominence thanks to her work as creative director for the superstar, starring in not one, but two, of her own reality shows: E!’s “The Dance Scene” and BET’s “Born to Dance.” And it was during this time that the duo showed the world what they could do as a pair, producing some of Gaga’s most talked-about creations, including the clips from the Born This Way album, which was released in May. “I woke up one night and I got it and I said, ‘I got it: We have to birth a new race ,’ ” she recalled to MTV News about the idea for the “BTW” clip. “As genius as [Gaga] is, she then begins to create all of these elements that make her Lady Gaga. When I saw the final edit, I, of course, was loving some stuff and then I was like, ‘But oh, here we go.’ It was brilliant. Nick is amazing.” While Gibson was outspoken when she disagreed about a creative decision the singer made, she seemed to be always by her side, working on projects like Gaga’s Google Chrome commercial , which again pays homage to the star’s Big Apple roots. The HBO special “Lady Gaga Presents the Monster Ball Tour at Madison Square Garden” highlighted Gibson’s work as creative director and earned Gaga five Emmy nominations. Laurieann also co-directed the “Judas” video , which she told us had left her satisfied. “I was able to sit in the director’s seat and fulfill our vision and see it all the way through. So at the end of the day, you saw how amazing she looks — beautiful — she’s dancing again,” Gibson said. “And it’s just great because I was able to produce the next level: who she is, how many levels she can go and the idea that this artist is a real artist and capable.” Gibson was also onboard for the “Yo

It was another slow weekend for boob tube nudity, with stars rushing to cover up just as the first snowflakes of winter fluttered through the skies. However, Chicago ain’t afraid of a few flurries, and once again Boss turned the City of Big Shoulders into the City of Big Boulders with Kathleen Robertson and Hannah Ware nude. Kathleen gave us a quick peek at her pair as she hooked up with her congressional lover, followed by a nice long look at her seat meat (WARNING: her man also bares his can). Would You Go See “Girlfriends” The Movie In Theaters???

Do you think “Girlfriends” has the potential to make the leap from small screen to big the same way “Sex And The City” did? Supporting cast member Keesha Sharp did an interview with Cherry Martinez about how the show ended with no closure and hoping they can make a movie happen: “Everybody’s talking about it, and I think that would be great…like a Sex in the City. At least give it some kind of closure to a degree and find out what happened to the characters in this past 5 years. We’re all excited about that, everybody’s talking about it, so we’re crossing our fingers and hoping that it happens.” “All I can say is everybody’s interested, and that’s a start. ‘Cause if Tracee wasn’t interested, or Jill wasn’t interested, or Golden, that would be a problem, but everybody wants it to happen. So we’re just waiting to hear, ‘Hey, we got the money.’ So hopefully, that happens.” Watch the full interview below: Would you go see it? Or wait for the DVD? Source More On Bossip! What Did WE Do?!
