Serena Williams faced off against her lifelong rival/partner in greatness Venus Williams at the US Open this evening, and triumphed once again — moving forward to the next round in the international competition. This win thrusts Serena into the semifinals of the U.S. Open, placing her only two matches away from a calendar Grand Slam. Her next match-up should prove fairly easy — Serena faces 43rd-ranked Roberta Vinci, a player she’s already beaten each of the four matches they’ve played. Once the match ended and Serena claimed victory over her big sis, the two embraced across the net and Venus could be seen saying to her sister, “I’m so happy for you.” Awww, good for Serena! Top Al-Qaida Leaders Killed in Iraq

Both U.S. and Iraq claimed victory over al-Qaida on Monday, their forces killed the terror group’s two top figures in this country in both air and land assault on the place near Saddam Hussein’s hometown. Nouri al-Maliki, the Iraqi Prime Minister announced the killings of Abu Omar al-Baghdadi and Abu Ayyub al-Masri at conference news and delivered photographs of their bodies. U.S. military officials confirmed about the deaths, which Vice President Joe Biden called a “potentially devastating blow” to al-Qaida in Iraq. Iraq and al-Qairda still remains a dangerous force as the U.S. in trying to prepare its troops withrawal . The group, which everybody considers as terrors, has initiated repeated attacks on civilian targets in Baghdad in an attempt to sow chaos and exploit political deadlock in the wake of the inconclusive March 7 parliamentary elections. Monday news comes at a very serious time for al-Maliki, who has staked his reputation on being the man who can put back the stability to Iraq after the grueling battle. The prime minister is locked in a tight contest with secular challenger Ayad Allawi to see who will form the next government. Al-Maliki’s coalition trails Allawi’s bloc by two seats in the 325-seat parliament, and neither has yet been able to secure enough support from other parties to muster a majority.
