Drake And Lil Wayne’s ‘Miss Me’ Video Premieres

The now-incarcerated Weezy appears projected on a wall throughout the clip. By Shaheem Reid Lil Wayne and Drake (file) Photo: ROBYN BECK/AFP/Getty Images Drake’s “Miss Me” video featuring Lil Wayne debuted Thursday night (August 19) on MTV. The clip starts with a man in a hood standing in an alley. He’s lighting up a Molotov cocktail and throwing it at the wall. The music starts, and we see Drake performing against a white backdrop, but the shot is wide and reveals a black setting as well. The action cuts to a sexy woman dancing in a room alone, and later we see Drake in that same room, sitting on the floor as the woman shakes it for him. “Miss Me” has heavy performance scenes throughout Drizzy’s verse, and then we see a TV set in the alley. Lil Wayne appears on the wall in the alley rapping, and he again is shown on the wall in the room where Drake and the girl are, like a projection. The Birdman and most of Wayne and Drake’s Young Money family appear in the video as well. As the video comes to a close, it’s revealed that Drake was the man in the hood at the beginning of the clip. “Miss Me” was directed by Anthony Mandler, who has helmed all of Drake’s Thank Me Later videos. ” ‘Miss Me,’ it was something I was so excited to do,” Drake said recently on the set of another Mandler clip, for “Fancy.” “It was something not a lot of people expected me to do, especially with Wayne being in the situation he’s in. We did it as a team, held Wayne down. All the Young Money big dawgs came down — the men of Young Money — to show the muscle, to show we still in full effect. It’s a great piece. It’s darker than the feel of the song. It’s got very much like a youth-in-revolt, rebellious feel to it. I wanted to be aggressive, man. That was my chance to flex my little ‘We did it. We’re still here. Young Money is still in demand.’ And to deliver a message that I feel very strong about. I’m not trying to be the best in the world. I don’t think that’s possible. There’s always somebody better than you. I just hope they miss me, man. So this is it. ‘Miss Me.’ ” The next video Drake and Mandler will shoot is for “Show Me a Good Time.” What did you think of the “Miss Me” video? Does it make you miss Lil Wayne? ‘Love The Way You Lie’ Video Is ‘Not About Eminem Or Rihanna,’ Director Says

‘These are fictional characters,’ Joseph Kahn says of abusive couple played by Dominic Monaghan and Megan Fox. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Matt Elias Joseph Kahn Photo: MTV News Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie” video has already raised eyebrows and sparked debate with its frank depiction of domestic violence, and given the history both artists have with the subject, many are now wondering if the clip is meant to be biographical. After all, the “Lie” video goes to great lengths to show the depths of violence in a relationship, something Em has rapped about innumerous times in the past, and it’s something Rihanna knows about all too well, after then-boyfriend Chris Brown assaulted her in 2009 . So the question most seem to be asking is: Are the clip’s two characters — played by Dominic Monaghan and Megan Fox — actually meant to represent Em and Rihanna? To find out, MTV News went directly to the man responsible for the video (and its concept), director Joseph Kahn, who told us in no uncertain terms that, while there’s a message behind “Lie,” it has nothing to do with what’s gone on in either artist’s personal life. “There are definitely things in both Rihanna and Eminem’s [lives] that we have to be very sensitive about when we were making this video, [but] it’s not a story about Eminem or Rihanna,” he said. “It’s a specific thing that I created for Dominic and Megan to play two people with very specific story lines to each other. These are fictional characters in my head but obviously based on real human beings.” So while he denies that Monaghan and Fox are playing Eminem and Rihanna in the video, Kahn said he can understand why fans might think that. After all, not only does the clip deal with an emotionally sensitive issue, but he happens to have a rather unique perspective on the lives of his musical stars. “The subject matter is some of the most complex stuff I’ve ever handled … [and] obviously there are parallels, in terms of the song, with Eminem’s personal life and Rihanna’s personal life,” he said. “And I had actually, like last year, been working with Chris Brown … so I’m in the middle of all this stuff, and I have to be very, very careful with how I tread. But ultimately, if you really look at the video, it’s not about anybody in particular. … It’s a story specific to two characters I created.” Did you think the “Love the Way You Lie” clip was about Em and Rihanna? Kanye West’s Artsy ‘Power’ Video Gets Raves From Fans

“Ye is a visionary. Always pushing the boundaries. Great Video,” said one MTV News commenter. By James Dinh Kanye West (file) Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage It was a big night for music videos on Thursday as MTV debuted Eminem and Rihanna’s cinematic “Love the Way You Lie” clip and Kanye West’s portrait (as he has referred to it), “Power.” Despite Yeezy’s clip lasting a mere one minute and 43 seconds, fans all over the Internet are gushing about the video’s artistic angle. The clip finds the rapper in the midst of still image that slowly pans out to reveal a portrait of religion, sex and … you guessed it … power. “I have watched it like 5 times and still want to see more. It’s awesome and epic,” said MTV News reader Justin. Justin explained that any viewer’s inability to react to the clip is evidence enough that “Power” is true art. “The reason some of you don’t know what to say proves it’s art. The world isn’t as simple as simple minded people…lol,” he explained. Many complimented West for bringing creativity back to music videos. “Mr. West brought the Art back to Music Video’s. Man I could watch [sh–] like this all day…. Even with commercials…,” Charles commented. It wasn’t just our comments section that was flooded with feedback either. The rapper’s official website has been loaded with praise for the Marco Brambilla-directed clip. “Ye is a visionary. Always pushing the boundaries. Great Video. Respect you Yeezy and love everything you do man. Can’t wait to buy the album,” said Swayne. Another even joked that New York City’s Museum of Modern Art should change their address because of the video. “NYC MoMA should change their address to 11 Kanye West 53 Street New York, NY 10019. I expect a full exhibition there at some point, ‘Ye! Keep doing what your doing. You bless us all [with] your talent. Love from Norway,” said fan MR MIKE. But not all were pleased with the clip’s short duration. “Ok…now let’s talk about the ‘Power’ video/portrait. I dig the creativity and stunning art but all that hype for 2 mins? Come on, Kanye!” said tweeter @JessNoel . Another tweeter, @AbsolutGrammy , had an interesting argument, saying, “Yall missing the point of the video ‘no one man should have all that power’ Kanye had the world tune in to MTV to catch 45 seconds of POWER!” Do you agree with any of the opinions given above? Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’ Video: Watch A Steamy Sneak Peek!

In the 30-second teaser, Perry dances and locks lips in her California hometown. By James Dinh Katy Perry in the video for “Teenage Dream” In Katy Perry’s last music video, for “California Gurls,” she played a female voyager avoiding Gummi Bears, laying nude on cotton-candy clouds and making her way through what she called “Candyfornia.” But her follow-up music video, for “Teenage Dream,” will bring the singer back to her California hometown as she ventures on a sunny road trip with her lover and friends. In a 30-second teaser, Perry appears as carefree as ever in a dancing, lip-locking montage throughout locations in Santa Barbara, California. Whether it’s basking in the sun of her blue Cadillac as her love interest (played by Josh Kloss) drives next to a carful of laughing friends or getting steamy with Kloss as he pushes her into a hotel bed, the clip’s teaser resonates with the song’s feel-good melody. Katy and friends decide to skip the swimwear and visit a beach as they shed their clothes and dance the afternoon away. Directed by Yoann Lemoine, the video — which premieres Tuesday — was shot in mid-July. Perry cast some of her real-life friends in the clip. She took to Twitter to talk about the “gorgeous” shoot. “Cut, copy, print, moving on! That’s a wrap for Teenage Dream! So gorgeous, I really can’t wait to see what [director] Yoann Lemoine makes of it all!!!” she tweeted. “In my hometown. Dominic Monaghan Dishes On Kissing Megan Fox In Eminem Video

‘Lost’ actor smooches with Fox in ‘Love the Way You Lie,’ premiering Thursday. By Gil Kaufman Megan Fox and Dominic Monaghan on the set of the music video for “Love the Way You Lie” Photo: Eric Ford/ On Location News When shooting the clip for the chart-topping hit “Love the Way You Lie,” it helped that Dominic Monaghan was a huge Eminem fan. But it also didn’t hurt that the shoot called for him to engage in a make-out session with former “Transformers” hottie Megan Fox. “What is it like kissing Megan Fox? It’s all right,” he laughed. “No I’m just kidding. It’s fine, it’s work. She’s married. I have a lot of respect for marriage.” Aware of her recent nuptials to Brian Austin Green, Monaghan revealed that one of the first things he said to Fox when they got on set was, “Look, I know that you’re married and I don’t want to do anything inappropriate. And she said, ‘It’s all kind of inappropriate, huh?’ ” In a theme the rapper has come back to time and again, Monaghan said the concept of the clip revolves around domestic violence and Eminem’s tumultuous relationship with his twice-ex wife, Kim. “It’s the story of them getting to know each other and it’s the story of their tumultuous relationship and it’s the story of the breakdown of their relationship,” Monaghan explained of the video, which will premiere on Thursday night on MTV, hot on the heels of Eminem’s eight VMA nominations . In order to tap into the sometimes contentious camaraderie that Marshall and Kim have shared over the years, Monaghan hearkened back to some of the most notorious couples of all time. “We’re supposed to be desperately in love, like Sid and Nancy, John and Yoko … Eminem and Kim,” he said. “Though I tried as hard as I could to make her laugh and have fun with her. I think we got on pretty well.” In one scene in a bar, Monaghan described a scenario where he has to roll up on another gentleman who is talking to Fox’s character, and the actress asked what she should call him when he comes over and is about to hit the guy. “I said, call me Slim,” he said. ” ‘Cuz that’s who I am essentially. I was playing Slim Shady and trying as hard as I could to be Slim Shady.” For motivation, the German-born, British-bred actor said he listened to Em’s first two albums a lot and tried to get into a “nasty, dirty … white trash” frame of mind, strutting around the set in either no shirt or a dirty cut-off T-shirt and thinking about one of his favorite snacks, Twinkies. Fox donated her fee for appearing in the clip to the Sojourn House, a shelter for abused women and children. Don’t forget to tune in to MTV on Thursday at 9 p.m. ET/PT for the premiere of Eminem’s “Love the Way You Lie,” and check MTVNews.com for full coverage of the clip. Related Artists Eminem
