‘American Idol’ Winner Odds Posted On Betting Site

Bodog.com currently has Andrew Garcia as an early favorite with 4-1 odds. By Kyle Anderson Andrew Garcia Photo: FOX The ninth season of “American Idol” has been amusing so far, delivering a number of memorable moments (including Larry Platt’s “Pants on the Ground” and frontrunner Andrew Garcia’s memorable take on Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up”), but the real business starts tonight. The top 24 have been selected, and now the competition becomes heated. The 12 remaining women will sing tonight, with the 12 men performing on Wednesday (February 24). And despite the fact that producer and judge Simon Cowell believes that a woman will win “American Idol” this time around, the short odds are currently on Garcia, the “Straight Up” singer with former gangsters for parents. According to Internet betting site Bodog , Garcia is an early favorite to win the season by a count of 4-1 (meaning that a bet of $1 will return $4). The ‘American Idol’ Season 9 Top 24 Though Bodog believes Garcia is the favorite, a series of women follow in his wake. Would-be diva Ashley Rodriguez follows close behind with 7-1 odds, just in front of Didi Benami (who performed “Hey Jude” for her deceased best friend in her audition and who has the same chances as Rodriguez). Crystal Bowersox (the dreadlocked girl with the adorable son) and Katie Stevens (the 16-year-old singing for her Alzheimer’s-stricken grandmother) round out the top five with odds of 15-2. In fact, you have to go pretty deep into the list to find another guy (the next on the list is Todrick Hall, who shows up with 15-1 odds). And what is Bodog’s opinion on the long shot for this season? That would be Joe Munoz at 65-1 (who is probably down here because the audience knows next- to nothing about him at the moment). Of course, these lines are likely to change once the public really gets to know the singers in the top 24 and the judges begin to weigh in on their work. Still, it’s a reasonable suggestion of where the favorites are and who needs to make some noise once the show gets real tonight. Who do you think is the “American Idol” season-nine favorite? Johnny Depp Draws New Attention To West Memphis Three

Actor will appear on ’48 Hours Mystery,’ urging authorities to re-examine the trio’s murder convictions. By Ryan J. Downey Johnny Depp Photo: Soul Brother/FilmMagic Johnny Depp added his name to the long list of celebrities and activists calling for authorities to re-examine the convictions of the West Memphis Three, a trio of young men convicted nearly two decades ago of murdering three children in West Memphis, Arkansas. The often press-shy actor will appear in a pre-taped interview on CBS’ “48 Hours Mystery” on Saturday. “I firmly believe Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Misskelley are totally innocent,” Depp said, according to a New York Post report. “It was a need for swift justice to placate the community. Damien Echols is on death row to be killed by lethal injection.” The “48 Hours” episode will discuss new DNA evidence and alleged juror misconduct that could potentially clear the West Memphis Three, according to the report. After the gruesome beating deaths of three 8-year-old boys shocked the small Southern town, many activists believe authorities rushed to convict the West Memphis Three based more on the trio’s dark clothing and love of heavy metal than facts. The sensational trial, conviction and aftermath — which has divided the community and the world at large for more than 16 years — were documented in a pair of acclaimed films by directors Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky: “Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills” and “Paradise Lost 2: Revelations.” The pair went on to make “Metallica: Some Kind of Monster” after the band provided music to their West Memphis Three documentaries. Depp and Metallica are joined in their support for the West Memphis Three by Eddie Vedder, Winona Ryder, Natalie Maines of the Dixie Chicks and Henry Rollins, who organized a benefit album for the trio a few years ago, to name a few. Last month, Demi Lovato offered her support via Twitter , writing: “Can everyone just take a second to read this please www.wm3.org a truly worthy cause. Show your support!!” followed by , “FREE THE WEST MEMPHIS THREE!!! :(.” Echols, Baldwin and Misskelley were teenagers at the time of their convictions. The verdicts have continuously been challenged through legal channels, but they all remain in prison, with Echols on death row. Many believe that circumstantial evidence seemed to point to other potential suspects. Some members of the victims’ families have publicly expressed their desire to see all of the facts in the case re-examined. Related Photos The Evolution Of: Johnny Depp

Soulja Boy Tell’em Drops ‘2 Milli’ Teaser Video

Futuristic clip features a 30-second snippet of the DeAndre Way song. By Hillary Crosley Soulja Boy Tell’em Photo: ExclusiveAccess.Net After shooting a video for Roscoe Dash’s “All the Way Turnt Up” remix recently in Atlanta, Soulja Boy Tell’em has leaked a teaser clip for his track “2 Milli,” from the forthcoming album The DeAndre Way. “My album is complete, but I record every day just to do it,” Soulja said. “I been had my single; I just leaked a lot of songs that people liked just as much as [a single. This] time, I’m going to do it right, so this time, when I drop the song, there’s going to be a visual and it’s going to be money.” The 30-second “2 Milli” clip opens with a shot of a space ship-like elevator, and the screen widens and trails down a long metallic hallway while sparks fall from the ceiling. “I always knew one day I would become the best rapper,” Soulja Boy boasts in the clip. “I just want to thank all my fans. I dedicate this to you. I call it ‘2 Milli.’ ” As Soulja Boy begins rhyming, the elevator takes him up the side of a computer-generated skyscraper and into a futuristic cave, where he plays with the floating windows of a touch-screen computer before the clip fades out. “I did what I wanted/ N—as did what they could/ A lion wouldn’t cheat, but a Tiger would,” he raps. “I only keep real n—as in my stable/ A million-dollar chain, I’m feeling like Gucci’s label/ So icy, I really don’t care/ Haters green as a pool table, and they’re twice as square/ Had to cut a couple bi—es/ Them n—as need stitches.” The DeAndre Way is slated for later this year. The young MC recently inked a record deal for his Stacks on Deck Entertainment with Universal Motown Records, home to Lil Wayne, and label head Sylvia Rhone. “Sylvia Rhone really believes in my imprint,” Soulja Boy told MTV News. “Anybody that I truthfully believe in and work on, I believe that they could be bigger than me and definitely be a superstar.” Related Artists Soulja Boy Tell’em

XXL’s 2010 Freshman Class: Two More Names Revealed!

Full list will be unveiled next month. By Hillary Crosley, with additional reporting by Shaheem Reid Nipsey Hustle Photo: XXL Last week, we presented a glimpse at XXL ‘s Freshmen 2010 class from the magazine’s photo shoot, and while XXL still won’t let us tell all, we’re leaking two more names. The special edition of the publication has boosted MCs like Kid Cudi, Wale and Asher Roth over its two-year history, and thus far the magazine’s staff has been pretty spot-on when predicting the next big stars. In 2008, rappers like Saigon, Lil Boosie and Plies made the cut, while last year, B.o.B and Charles Hamilton graced the cover. Other members of the ’09 class were Kid Cudi, Ace Hood, Curren$y, Blu, Mickey Factz and Cory Gunz. XXL ‘s Vanessa Satten said the editorial staff started deciding the 2010 class two months ago. Along with their own research, they also took recommendations from the magazine’s editors at large and freelance writers. “Last year, in general, the class was more Internet-driven,” she told MTV News. “It was kind of a different class. The office would make fun — it was more of a nerdy class. The rappers involved might get offended by that, but it was definitely to the direction of the Internet audience, the Internet rappers. This [new] class is a mix of that and a little bit more street. And more of hodgepodge.” Last week, Fresno, California MC Fashawn, Georgia trapstar Pill, North Carolina’s J.Cole and Los Angeles’ Nipsey Hussle were outted as part of the Freshmen 10 while they rhymed a few bars in the shadows, to conceal their identity, during the magazine’s photo shoot. Here are the next two newcomers: Gary, Indiana’s Freddie Gibbs and Atlanta’s OJ Da Juiceman . “I’m from the land of cans of spam, hand to hand, dope deals made, dollar for dollar gram to gram, you could follow me and see just how much a man could stand,” rhymes Freshman #7 Gibbs in his clip through his Midwestern accent. The announcement of Freshman #8 OJ Da Juiceman hit the Web via a viral video on Wednesday (February 24). [In the clip, the protege and sidekick to the incarcerated Gucci Mane sat in darkness, revealing only his jeans, sneakers and bejewelled wrists and fingers as he spit. “Six rings on like a basketball player, freshmen of the year like a basketball player/ what it do good, man I’m here to stay, aw man gurl man we in your face. Ay!” he drawled, ending his performance with his trademark yelp. Controversially, neither Drake, arguably the most well-known new MC in rap right now, nor Nicki Minaj are part of 2010’s Freshmen class. “Technically [Nicki Minaj and I] were freshmen when [ XXL ] didn’t put us on,” Drake said recently, according to RapRadar.com. “Now it’s just returning the favor.” The XXL Freshmen 10 issue hits stands March 13. Satten said there will be a DJ Whoo Kid mixtape to promote the issue in the coming weeks, as well as a party and Freshmen 10 tour featuring a few of the artists.
