‘Sex And The City 2’ Stylist Patricia Field Describes Her Desert Inspiration

By Jocelyn Vena Photo: MTV News It’s been 12 years since “Sex and the City” premiered on HBO, and franchise stylist Patricia Field is as skilled as ever at having fans scramble to get the latest looks worn by Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte . And while the women seem more settled in their personal lives in “Sex and the City 2,” their looks have gotten almost more over-the-top than before. When Field sat down to dream up the looks for the second movie, in which a lot of the action takes place in Abu Dhabi (by way of Morocco), she knew she’d have to up the fashion ante. “Because there’s a new script, and the script is my first inspiration, and hopefully in the script I will get the strike,” Field told MTV News at the movie’s premiere on Monday, where Kristin Davis dished that her favorite “SATC 2” look was the black Oscar de la Renta ball gown she wore to Anthony and Stanford’s wedding . Though the show and the first movie have featured adventures in Mexico, L.A. and Paris, Field knew that venturing to a place as glamorous and opulent as Abu Dhabi meant something completely different. “Well, they were in a new location and it was a fabulous vacation, so when you’re going on a fabulous vacation — I don’t know if you ever have, but I have — [and when I have], I’m anticipating the most fabulous vacation,” she said. “I pack my clothes [thinking], ‘Wow, I’m gonna be, like, the guest of the sheik and [in] the palace with butlers and limos and private planes and camels and the desert.’ So, I imagine where I’m going and get all excited and run and get all my wardrobe together, so that when I’m in the desert [it’s like], ‘Ahhhh!’ ” While the first movie saw the return of Carrie’s famous tutu from the series’ opening credits, this sequel will show Carrie in the Galliano/Dior newspaper dress that sparked a trend back in season three. ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Recap: Nicole Scherzinger, Evan Lysacek Keep Shining

Carter Derek Hough and Nicole Scherzinger on “Dancing with the Stars” Photo: ABC For Monday night’s semifinals of “Dancing With the Stars,” the remaining couples had to compete in two rounds — ballroom and Latin — to impress judges. The performances resulted in a dead heat for first place between Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger and Olympian Evan Lysacek, who were both just one point shy of a total perfect score. The first couple to hit the floors was ESPN reporter Erin Andrews and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Judge Len Goodman was impressed with their Viennese waltz. He told the duo that the fight for the finals is in effect. Bruno Tonioli commented on Andrews’ improvement. Tonioli caused a bit of confusion when he accidentally held up a 10 paddle — he meant to give them a 9 — and Chmerkovskiy mock fainted. For their second round, they danced the paso doble, and the judges weren’t too keen on Andrews’ solo at the beginning. Score: 56/60 Favorite Scherzinger and partner Derek Hough took the stage next, performing a rather flawless Argentine tango. Tonioli said the Pussycat Doll was like “a divine enchantress,” and Carrie Ann Inaba told the pop singer “what you are doing is incredible.” The duo scored a perfect 30/30 for their tango, and when they came back for their cha cha to Prince’s hit “Kiss,” they barely missed a beat. Goodman said without question, Scherzinger deserved to be in the finals. Score: 59/60 Cincinnati Bengals player Chad Ochocinco and partner Cheryl Burke chose the waltz for the ballroom round. Inaba told Ochocinco that he nailed the dance. Goodman seemed equally impressed, noting that the football star is the only celeb in the semifinals without any dance experience. They took on the samba for dance number two, a dance that judges said was the toughest of the night. Tonioli joked that after seeing Ochocinco dance with his shirt open, he “will never take my clothes off again!” Score: 52/60 Lysacek and his partner Anna Trebunskaya picked the foxtrot, trying to add the emotion the skater hadn’t yet expressed in dance. Tonioli was impressed, saying that he wasn’t aware that Lysacek had that kind of vitality in him. Inaba said that he was engaged the entire time, something that had been missing from his pristine dance moves. For their second time out, the couple did a paso doble that Tonioli called strong, yet artistic. Dance number two earned a perfect score, for a 59/60 total. Greyson Chance Performance at Ellen Degeneres Show Wowed Millions

Greyson Chance is a 12-year old boy, and now one of the hot searches on YouTube, the uploaded video already has 9.5 million hits. On the video, Greyson performs “Paparazzi” by Lady Gaga; surprisingly the video is just a month old but already has lots of views. Because of sudden popularity, even Ellen Degeneres invited Greyson on her show. On that show he told that he was on his Math class when he suddenly received a text message from her mom to call her ASAP. When he arrived home her mom said that he should pack his clothes because they are flying to L.A, and that’s because he is invited by Ellen to her show. According to him, this is his first flight. Greyson had the chance to talk to Lady Gaga, the singer told him: “You are so sweet and so talented and I was so acknowledging that you understand the ‘paparazzi’ and everyone loves you. Erykah Badu Pleads Not Guilty To ‘Window Seat’ Charge

Carter Erykah Badu in her video for “Window Seat” Photo: Universal Motown Erykah Badu entered a not-guilty plea Wednesday for stripping down in public for her much-talked-about “Window Seat” video . In March, the 39-year-old soul singer went sans clothing in Dallas’ busy Dealey Plaza during the video shoot; she later was charged with disorderly conduct in relation to the music video. “I thought it was a move for women and men and children who feel they weren’t good enough,” Erykah Badu told MTV News on April 8 about the controversial clip. ” ‘This is just me. I’m good enough.’ I felt it was important enough to do. More pros than cons.” In Badu’s video, she sheds her clothes while walking through downtown Dallas, and almost as soon as she is totally nude, she is shot in the head, falling near the same grassy knoll near where President Kennedy was shot in 1963. Instead of blood, animated words that spell out “groupthink” leak from her head on the sidewalk. The singer has said that she picked to go nude in Dealey Plaza because it’s one of the most popular locales in the city. Badu didn’t file for an official permit to shoot the video. The directors of the video, Chike and Coodie, told MTV News that they were well aware of potential attention from law-enforcement officials. More performers will be announced for the 107.9 concert in the coming weeks. This year, the radio station celebrates its 15th anniversary, and you already know what the celebration will be: the annual summer Birthday Bash concert. On Thursday evening (April 22), 107.9 announced its first two performers for the June 19 concert at the Philips Arena. First up on the roster will be the always combustible Ludacris. Before Luda embarked on the road to superstardom, he was a personality on the station in the late ’90s. The other name 107.9 announced today should come as no surprise, but fans will love the news nonetheless: Plies. The Florida native is becoming a staple of the concert. He’s had two highly touted performances the last couple of years. A testament to Plies’ potency as an MC is when his album cuts are sung word for word at the Birthday Bash, just like his singles. “The game is a tricky situation,” Plies said about the success of his non-singles. “From what we really stand for and what we’re trying to get across, from a company standpoint, we don’t stand a chance on radio with those records. A lot of times, people don’t understand the impact of the structure of radio. If I could put ‘Old Lady’ on the radio, I’d love to have it on the radio. A lot of times, it’s about trying to balance your situation but understanding your situation at the same time.” Last year, the Birthday Bash show-stealer was Young Jeezy , who brought out Lil Wayne and Mary J. Blige. Rick Ross, Fabolous, Gucci Mane, Trey Songz, Keri Hilson, Soulja Boy Tell’em and the Grand Hustle family also hit the stage. In 2008, Jeezy also had the most talked-about set , bringing out Kanye West, The-Dream and Usher. Solar Details Guru’s Health Decline

Gang Starr MC’s collaborator says he helped his friend ‘preserve his dignity’ during his last days. By Shaheem Reid Solar Photo: MTV News As questions about the sincerity of his relationship with Guru continue to circulate throughout the hip-hop community and on the Internet, the Gang Starr MC’s longtime collaborator Solar has opened up about the bond between the two men. “The friendship got close fairly rapidly,” Solar told MTV’s Sway of their meeting in 2002 through a mutual friend. When the trailblazing legend fell ill in early 2009, it was Solar who was appointed medical proxy. Guru died Monday at age 43, after succumbing to a cancer-related illness. Solar said Guru’s health started to drastically deteriorate beginning last summer. In May 2009, the rapper was diagnosed with a myeloma (a tumor), and by that July, he had undergone an unsuccessful operation to stop its spread from his back to other parts of his body. “There were times where I’d help him out,” Solar said. “Get his bathing together, get his self together. Help him with his clothes. Help him out with his food. I would help him get in and out [of the bathtub]. With the myeloma, it’s very delicate. So I would help him get in and out, make sure he could stabilize himself so he could do what he had to do. It’s one of the hardest things I had to do. But I loved him as a brother, and I believe he would have done the same for me. I did that to preserve his dignity, that’s what it was even in those times. “It was getting bad,” Solar said of the months that followed the failed surgery. “His mobility was starting to worsen. I was staying in his home with him to help him with his day-to-day. … We did have people from outside come in as well to help out. Doctors and specialists that were treating him recommended he admit himself [to] the hospital for treatment. … He checked himself in the hospital … signed the appropriate documents that we would be his health proxy. He proceeded to undergo treatment, got to the point of chemotherapy. He was responding. At that point, we didn’t think he wouldn’t come out. We thought he would come back out the hospital and be actually able to get back to some independent life again. The doctors were fairly optimistic that the chemo would work and some other drugs they were giving would work. That’s when the unfortunate event of the cardiac arrest happened. The lungs couldn’t take it.” Guru agreed to go to the hospital last February and, tragically, never came out. In the days since his death, many journalists, fans, MCs and even family members have questioned the sincerity of Guru’s relationship with Solar .
