More Americans get their news from the Internet than from newspapers or radio, and three-fourths say they hear of news via e-mail or updates on social media sites, according to a new report. Sixty-one percent of Americans said they get at least some of their news online, according to a survey by the Pew Internet and American Life Project. That's compared with 54 percent who said they listen to a radio news program and 50 percent who said they read a national or local print newspaper. Almost all respondents, 92 percent, said they get their news from more than one platform. “In the digital era, news has become omnipresent. Americans access it in multiple formats on multiple platforms on myriad devices,” reads the report, based on a survey conducted in December and January. “The days of loyalty to a particular news organization on a particular piece of technology in a particular form are gone.” Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter have made news a more participatory experience than ever before, the survey suggests. People share links to news stories by e-mail, post articles on their Facebook and other networking feeds and tweet them on Twitter — often following up by discussing the articles on message boards and other sites. Seventy-five percent of respondents said they get news forwarded through e-mail or posts on social networking sites, while 37 percent of online users said they've reported news, commented on a story or shared it on sites like Facebook and Twitter, the survey said. “To a great extent, people's experience of news, especially on the Internet, is becoming a shared social experience … ,” reads the report. “[T]he advent of social media like social networking sites and blogs has helped the news become a social experience in fresh ways for consumers.” Most people said they use between two and five online news sources, and 65 percent said they don't have a single favorite Web site for news. When looking for news online, people said they're most often seeking information about a common topic: the weather. Eighty-one percent said they search for weather information online, followed by national news at 73 percent. Just over half — 52 percent — said they look for sports news, while 47 percent said they look for entertainment or celebrity news. Online news users are generally younger than the average population, according to Pew. About two-thirds of the study's online news users were younger than 50, and nearly 30 percent were younger than 30. Racially, that group is more white and Hispanic than the national average, while half of non-Hispanic black respondents said they get all of their news from offline sources. Only television news still outpaces the Internet, with 78 percent of respondents saying they watch local news and 73 percent saying they view a national network or cable news channel like CNN, Fox News or MSNBC. The report was based on a daily tracking survey of 2,259 adults age 18 or older. The margin of error for all respondents is plus or minus 2.3 percentage points — 2.7 percentage points for Internet users. An unnamed source, who reportedly spoke to Koenig’s father, told CNN that the body found in Vancouver’s Stanley Park on Thursday (February 25) at around noon is the 41-year-old. A news conference is expected for later Thursday, and various reports are saying that his parents — including “Star Trek” icon Walter Koenig — may attend. Fans, media and authorities alike had all come together over the last week in search of Koenig, who vanished on Valentine’s Day and then missed a flight home to Los Angeles two days later. Reports later leaked that Vancouver police classified the actor as being “despondent” upon his disappearance , that he had suffered from depression, and had mailed a letter to his father before vanishing that gave the family cause for concern. As friends and family feared the worst, his Hollywood peers, including Alyssa Milano, Kevin Smith, Alyson Hannigan and Sarah Silverman, all used Twitter to voice concern and ask for help locating the actor. Joshua Andrew Koenig was born August 17, 1968, and worked as an actor, film director, editor and writer. He was best known for playing troublemaking teen Richard “Boner” Stabone on the ABC sitcom “Growing Pains,” starring Kirk Cameron — who sent out his own desperate plea for Koenig’s safe reappearance recently. In the years since the hit sitcom went off the air, Koenig had a small role on “Star Trek: Deep Space Nine,” voiced the Joker in a fan film called “Batman: Dead End” and wrote and directed the 2004 short film “Woman in a Green Dress.” If the reports are true, Koenig’s last professional work is believed to be alongside “Twilight” star Jackson Rathbone in the experimental indie film “DaZe: Vol. Too – NonSeNse.”

Vancouver police say the 41-year-old ‘has recently been despondent.’ By MTV News Staff Andrew Koenig Photo: IMDB Andrew Koenig, the 41-year-old former “Growing Pains” actor who has been missing since February 14, has suffered from depression, according to statements from his family and law enforcement officials. “Andrew has recently been despondent, and his family and friends are concerned for his well-being,” Vancouver police said in a statement released Sunday, CNN reports. “Andrew was suffering from depression at the time of his disappearance,” the family said in a statement. Koenig, who played Richard “Boner” Stabone — star Kirk Cameron’s best friend, on “Growing Pains” — was visiting friends in Vancouver and was expected to return home to Venice, California, on February 16. His father, Walter Koenig, who played Chekov in the original “Star Trek” TV and film franchise, last spoke with his son on February 9. He received a note troubling note from Andrew, postmarked February 15. Andrew has not been seen since Valentine’s Day. “He sounded despondent,” Walter said of the note. “Nobody has seen this [note] but my wife and I.” While Vancouver police conduct an investigation, Andrew Koenig’s Hollywood peers have begun spreading the news of his disappearance via social-networking sites. Alyssa Milano , Kevin Smith , Alyson Hannigan and Sarah Silverman have all sent out updates from their Twitter accounts about the developing situation. Lance Miccio, a producer and director who worked numerous times with Koenig, told ABC News that Koenig recently turned down an opportunity to collaborate, saying he didn’t want to work anymore. “He’s been my editor on about 15 projects,” Miccio said. “I told him, ‘Look, I have a new gig, are you interested in working?’ And he said, ‘No, I’m not.’ Then I invited him out for drinks to talk and see where his head was at, because I knew he wasn’t feeling great, and he declined on that.” “I think it’s something that has been a part of his makeup for a long time,” Walter told People of his son’s disappearance, which he doesn’t think had anything to do with drug use. “There’s no single trauma.
