The former American Idol champion has signed on to portray Mahalia Jackson on the big screen, a real-life, late American gospel singer and civil rights advocate. Jackson rose from poverty in New Orleans to a successful career as a gospel artist. Anderson Cooper on Egypt Attack: We Were Lucky…

Anderson Cooper i a lucky man and he knows it. The CNN anchor, who was attacked in Egypt last week, appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman last night and detailed his experience in the volatile nation. Responding to what it was like to be “pummeled,” Cooper said he and his crew tried to speak with Hosni Mubarak supporters. They responded by hitting, slapping and even trying to tear the clothing off female crew members. Laurel Kagay: Brad Womack Proposed to Me Last Summer!

Brad Womack has played the role of a commitment-phone turned “changed man” well on this season of The Bachelor, his second in the starring capacity. But if the Texan does get down on one knee and propose to Chantal O’Brien, Emily Maynard, Ashley Hebert or Michelle Money, it won’t be the first time. At least according to Laurel Kagay, his on-off girlfriend of eight years. She tells Us that Brad asked to marry her several times – including last summer! DOUBLE LIFE : Laurel raises some pretty serious questions if what she says about Brad is true. But was there even any deception involved on his part? “Even when we weren’t together, he’d say how much he loved me and was going to marry me,” says Laurel, noting that Brad proposed right before The Bachelor . After spending the summer trying to woo her back , making comments to the effect of “I will marry you right now,” he left to star on the ABC show a second time. THG NOTE : If Laurel Kagay looks familiar, it’s because she also dated Wes Hayden, and was his rumored “girl back home” while he was on The Bachelorette . Wes denied he and Laurel were an item at the time of the show, despite a major hatchet job by the producers (and Jake Pavelka) to convince us otherwise. Regardless of what happened there, she and Brad were serious. Even after he left to film the show last fall, Brad Womack continued to send Kagay emails. Now that Womack is telling the world he’s found love this time around ( The Bachelor spoilers here offer a good guess at who), Kagay wants to warn her. “I’m sure the girl he picked would want to know he was proposing to another woman right before he started taping,” she says. “I would want to know.” What do you think? Taboo Defends The Black Eyed Peas Halftime Show

If you were looking for energy and many bright lights, The Black Eyed Peas Super Bowl halftime performance went perfectly on Sunday. But if you tuned in hoping to hear perfect sound mixing and smooth vocals, you were one of the many critics disappointed in the results. Black Eyed Peas Halftime Show In a new interview with Pop Eater, group member Taboo acknowledges a few “technical problems,” but defends the performance overall, explaining: The thing about it is there were 100 million viewers. If you get 60 million people who didn’t like it and you get 40 million that did like the show, that’s a pretty cool thing because you can’t please everybody. Everybody who is a critic is going to criticize and annihilate everything you do even if it’s a good thing. They just want to bring it down. As many people who are blogging about how disappointed they were, there’s a lot of people in the streets who really loved the show. What did you think of the performance?

Gabrielle Giffords Update: In Rehab, Regaining Ability to Speak

We have an update on wounded Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords, and it’s nothing but good news: The Arizona politician, who was one of several victims of a January shooting spree , is recovering at TIRR Memorial Hermann rehabilitation hospital in Houston and has recently regained the ability to speak. “It’s very good news,” spokesman C.J. Karamargin tells CNN, adding that Giffords asked for a piece of toast this week. Why that facility? “The reason for choosing this rehab facility is because of their track record,” Karamargin said. “They are doing a fabulous job and working with her language and speech exercise and the physical therapy part of it.”

Miley Cyrus on Josh Bowman: Just a Rad Dog Walker!

Sources say Miley Cyrus got cozy with Josh Bowman on the set of So Undercover . And, yes, as depicted in the video below, the two were clearly cuddling up to each other in Griffith Park on Sunday. Miley Cyrus and Josh Bowman Snuggling But, no, Cyrus and her co-star are NOT an item, she insists. Asked about Bowman at last night’s Justin Bieber movie premiere. Cyrus told E! News: “I’m dating nobody! We were at the park sitting together. We’re really good friends and he takes really good care of my dog, so that was rad.” Bowman does have a lot of experience with dogs, it’s true. Just look at who he previously boinked .

In a cross-promotional effort somewhere between awesome and terrible, Monday’s episode of The Bachelor will feature a date with Brad Womack in which three of the remaining ladies will pose for the 2011 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue! Move over, Brooklyn Decker. Make room for Ashley Hebert … Don’t get us wrong. Ashley, Chantal O’Brien and Michelle Money are all attractive girls worthy of inclusion. But c’mon, we’re talking about The Bachelor , people. The SI swimsuit issue may have jumped the shark with this PR stunt, desperate to make a splash (pun intended) in the Free-Internet-Pics-of-Hot-Girls era. Nevertheless, you can’t deny that Michelle Money, for all her psycho stalker antics, has a ridiculous body she will flaunt in this setting. Chantal isn’t far behind. Ashley Hebert doesn’t have the same swimsuit model figure you normally see in SI, but is still a bona fide cutie by any measure, as the pic above proves. Her fun-loving spirit comes across well … and just forget what we said in the previous sentence. She looks like she has a dancer’s body and looks amazing. Interestingly, earlier previews for this episode may have been designed to try to throw off The Bachelor spoilers , as it was made out to look like the finale. Chantal laments that Brad Womack can’t choose her as “one of three girls.” But it’s not the end. There are still six remaining at this stage of the game. Here’s a sneak peek of the episode, in which Brad Womack gets the grumpy girls out of bed at 2 a.m. to go on this date. Oh, it will be quite worth it, girls. If you’re one of the six straight guys who watches The Bachelor, this will almost surely go down as the best group date in the show’s 15-season history: The Bachelor Swimsuit Issue Preview Who do you want to win The Bachelor?

Prior to her globally-televised miscue at Super Bowl XLV, Christina Aguilera had sung the national anthem perfectly in the past, word for word, note for note. Take Game 7 of the 2010 NBA Finals, for example . Or just take rehearsal that afternoon. A video has surfaced of Aguilera practicing the country’s most patriotic single on the day of the big game, nailing every aspect of it. Does this mean she simply choked on a major stage? That her friends are somehow correct and a drinking problem played a role in the flub? We can’t say.
