Peggy McCay, a veteran actress best known for her long-running role on Days of Our Lives, passed away on Sunday from natural causes. She was 90 years old. The very sad news about this soap opera icon was shared on Facebook by her co-star and close friend, Deidre Hall. Wrote Hall as confirmation: Our dearest Peggy McCay has left us. She was a friend, an activist and a real scrapper!! I remember meeting her at the bedside of a dear, very ill friend. I backed her up as she ferociously took on doctors and nurses to make sure he had the very best care. She fought that hard for all her causes. Passionate and tireless. And how she loved being “Caroline”!! Indeed, McCay portrayed the character of Caroline Brady for 35 years. McCay originated the role of Vanessa Dale on the CBS soap opera Love of Life in 1951 and appeared on that program for four years. However, it was her portrayal of family matriarch Brady on Days of Our Lives for which she is best known. By far. McCay joined the cast in 1983 and was nominated four times for a Daytime Emmy for the role, most recently in 2016. Her final episode on the series aired on August 24, 2016. “I just heard the news that #PeggyMccay has passed,” Tweeted Jen Lilley, one of many actresses who paid tribute on social media today. “She was like a real grandmother to me, a mentor, a great source of encouragement, and she was so hilariously fierce. You are deeply missed Peggy!” Co-star Thaao Penghlis described McCay as “always a classy lady” and added as part of his full statement: Peggy McCay cared about her craft, her fellow actors and the Life of Days. She reigned well in this most pressured profession of Daytime.” McCay won a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a drama series for The Trials of Rosie O’Neill. She also earned a Primetime Emmy nomination for a guest role as Mrs. Carruthers on Cagney & Lacey. It’s been almost 35 years since Natalie Wood drowned during a boat trip with husband Robert Wagner and friend Christopher Walken. Despite the fact that decades have passed since Wood lost her life under mysterious circumstances off the coast of Catalina Island, there’s been a renewed interest in the circumstances of her death in recent years. The case began making headlines again back in 2012, when Wood’s death certificate was officially changed to include “mysterious circumstances” as one of the causes of her passing. Shortly thereafter, rumors that Wood caught Wagner and Walken in bed together on the night of her death began to circulate online. In December of 2014, Walken was questioned by police in connection with Wood’s death, but insiders say the interrogation produced no new information. Several members of Wood’s family have remained persistent in their efforts to get to the bottom of what really happened on that fateful night in 1981, and the campaign to get all parties involved to participate in the ongoing investigation led to a videotaped confrontation between Wagner and Wood’s sister last year: Natalie Wood: Late Actress’ Sister Confronts Robert Wagner Over Murder Investigation Now, a private detective firm called Cold Case Investigative Research claims to have assembled sufficient evidence to offer to convince police to arrest Wagner for Wood’s murder. CCIR investigator Mark Rulli recently revealed to Radar Online that the firm has turned a file containing their findings over the Los Angeles Ounst Sheriff’s Department, which reopened its own investigation into Wood’s death in 2011. “Natalie was married to a jealous man, who ended up robbing her of life,” Rulli tells the website. While he’s unable to confirm the rumors about Walken and Wagner being involved in a sexual relationship, Rulli says he’s been able to prove conclusively that Wagner was carrying on two simultaneous affairs while Wood was still alive. In order to avoid compromising the investigation, Rulli declined to offer forensic details, but an insider familiar with the case has assured Radar that “a bust is looming.” A spokesperson for the LAPD confirmed that the department is “fully aware” of CCIR’s findings, but did not offer any further information. It remains unclear if police have any intention of pressing charges against the 86-year-old Wagner. We’ll have further updates on this story as more information becomes available.
Sam Sarpong Dead At Age 40 British-American actor and model Sam Sarpong passed on on Monday, Oct. 26, taking his own life by leaping from a bridge. He was 40 at the time of his death. Sarpong was known for many bit parts be played on shows like Bones, Cold Case, 24, and Everybody Hates Chris, among others. But he was perhaps best known as a co-host on MTV’s Yo Momma alongside Wilmer Valderrama. Sarpong was also a the face Tommy Hilfiger for several years. Via US Weekly : “It is with great sadness that the family of Samuel Sarpong Jr. must share the news that Sam has passed away,” his family said in a statement via his rep. “The circumstances surrounding his death are currently under investigation and no additional details are known at this time. … The famikly appreciates the thoughts and prayers and other expressions of sympathy, and request that privacy be respected at this extremely difficult time.” The statement also noted that final arrangements are forthcoming. According to a news release from the Pasadena Police Department, a witness called law enforcement on Monday morning after seeing a man standing outside of the bridge railing. Officers and firefighters communicated with him for hours, but he ultimately jumped to his death.

For the love of money…SMH Nanette Packard Sentenced To Life In Prison For Murder Conspiracy With Ex-NFL Player A Southern California woman was sentenced to life in prison Friday for helping her lover, former NFL linebacker Eric Naposki, murder her live-in millionaire boyfriend for financial gain nearly two decades ago. Nanette Ann Packard, 46, was convicted of murder earlier this year in the cold case slaying of William Francis McLaughlin, who made his fortune in medical technologies and was shot dead in his kitchen in December 1994. Packard was living with the much older McLaughlin when he was murdered, but the divorced mother of two was also dating Naposki, a former linebacker for the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts who worked as a bouncer at a nearby nightclub. Packard convinced Naposki to kill McLaughlin, gave him a key to the victim’s house and told him when he would be home, prosecutors said. She stood to collect $1 million on a life insurance policy and receive $150,000 and free rent for a year at one of his homes if McLaughlin died, authorities said. Packard ended up stealing at least $500,000 from McLaughlin’s estate both before and after his death, Matt Murphy, deputy district attorney, said during trial. As for her accomplice Eric Naposki… Naposki, 45, was convicted of first-degree murder last July. His sentencing has been postponed until Aug. 10. The trailer gives out a lot of plot details, but fans of the book will be thrilled to see Mikhail and Lisbeth in action. By Eric Ditzian Rooney Mara in “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” Photo: Columbia Pictures The teaser trailer for “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” didn’t divulge much about the murder mystery at the center of the flick, trading story details for darkly cool imagery and a badass Led Zeppelin cover courtesy of Trent Reznor , Atticus Ross and Karen O. The latest “Dragon Tattoo” trailer takes a wildly different approach, running four minutes and diving deeply into the lives of Mikhail Blomkvist (Daniel Craig) and Lisbeth Salander (Rooney Mara), the two Swedes at the center of this tale about a 40-year-old cold case of a missing girl and a rich, dysfunctional family. It’s hard to argue the new footage is too spoiler heavy, considering the ubiquity of the international best-selling Stieg Larsson novel on which the film is based. Let’s just say that there is a ton to unpack in the new trailer. Here are our picks for the five key scenes: The Family Dinner While Larsson’s book is set in contemporary times, its story is inextricably tied to the past, to events surrounding the disappearance and suspected murder of Harriet Vanger, a teenange girl and scion of a wealthy family with dark secrets. Blomkvist and Salander are charged with cracking the decades-old case and largely rely on vintage photographs to assist their investigation. This scene, a glimpse of the Vanger family in the 1960s, shows that director David Fincher is using these weathered photos as the visual inspiration for flashbacks. The almost sepia-toned aesthetic differentiates the gritty present from the vintage-y past, and makes the connection that past events, captured in photos, will be the mechanism allowing Blomkvist and Salander to undercover the truth. The Flowers For those unfamiliar with the novel, this scene — in which Blomkvist and Henrik Vanger (Christopher Plummer), who hires the journalist to investigate his niece’s disappearance — unveils the first creepy clue of the story. Henrik has been receiving pressed flowers, in frames, for years. He’s certain they’re taunts from Harriet’s killer, as the young girl used to present such gifts to her uncle. It turns out that Blomkvist himself has a connection to the Vanger clan, as he spent time as a young child on the family’s remote estate. Taken together, these representations of the past — both in the form of memories and in physical frames — spur the reluctant journalist to take on the assignment. Well, that and the fact that he’s recently suffered a profound professional humiliation and Henrik is offering him a lucrative payout. The Genius To assist him in the investigation, Blomkvist hires Salander, a young woman with a history of being institutionalized and underestimated. The truth is, she’s a brilliant hacker with a photographic memory, as this scene makes clear. Blomkvist shows her a key piece of evidence — a set of names and phone numbers from Harriet’s diary — but she needn’t take another look. Salander has already memorized the information. Blomkvist realizes he’s picked the perfect partner. And he also doesn’t complain that she’s strikingly beautiful; the journalist is something of a ladies’ man, and this duo ends up having success both on the case and in the bedroom. The Photo As we said above, photos are the key clues in this case. Here we see evidence of Blomkvist and Salander’s big break, tthe photo that unlocks everything. In the book, it’s an enormously satisfying moment. After hitting roadblock after roadblock, the case finally picks up momentum, and the rest of the story proceeds at a breakneck pace. So head’s up: Once this scene plays out in the film, hold onto your seat — it’s going to get crazy and violent and freaky from here on out. The Rape That’s not to say there’s not plenty of crazy and freaky violence before that photo pops up. This quick shot shows Salander exacting some well-deserved revenge on Nils Bjurman, the sadistic lawyer who oversees her casework. Earlier in the trailer, we see Bjurman explaining to Salander that his assistance comes hand-in-hand with his unwanted sexual advances. Eventually Salander pays him back for his perversions: Bjurman, meet ball gag. It’s gruesome stuff. And it shows how Salander may look meek and helpless, but when she’s backed into a corner she can come up with some of the most creative and brutal acts of vengeance imaginable. AMC has greenlit its fifth original series , a Seattle-set crime drama with character-driven touches formerly called The Killing . The now-untitled show is based off a Danish series called Forbrydelsen and will follow the murder of a young girl and the ensuing investigation. With executive producer and writer Veena Sud ( Cold Case ) in place and director Patty Jenkins ( Monster ) on board for the pilot, the show’s 13-episode first season will debut in 2011.
