On DVD: Colin Farrell’s Straight-to-Video War Wounds

So few movies actually get hoisted into theaters nowadays (a fraction of the number we saw 20 or 40 years ago) that each release seems to have the import and ambition of a moon landing. (Or, they’re made to seem like moon landings, so we won’t want to miss it and get left behind the herd.) This means that some movies with marquee-brand stars end up going straight to video — which used to be the dumping ground for the truly unmarketable but is now simply a B-movie delivery system. There need not be shame any longer if your movie’s road takes you straight to Netflix and Blockbuster.

Jennifer Aniston Filming Some "Provocative" Stuff

It was recently announced that Jennifer Aniston would be playing an oversexed dentist in the comedy Horrible Bosses , sparking rumors of sex scenes. Her rep quickly shot down celebrity gossip sites getting their hopes, but did tell tease “provocative” scenes and ” aggressive sexuality ” on her part. OK! Magazine is salivating right now and already crafting next week’s deluge of pregnancy rumors – she just wants a baby so bad! The hormones! Sexuality aside, the film centers on three guys (Jason Bateman, Jason Sudeikis and It’s Always Sunny ‘s Charlie Day) scheming to kill their bosses. Will Jennifer Aniston give the world the scenes it wants? The supervisors are played by Aniston, Colin Farrell and Kevin Spacey. Why would anyone want Jen’s character dead? Think sexual harassment! Aniston wants one employee (Day) big time. “She really goes after him, but he doesn’t want it,” a source says. “He has to practically fight her off.” In one scene, Aniston apparently isn’t wearing much. Stop the presses! The provocative scenes are being shot on a closed set in L.A. because producers want to keep details secret and Aniston as comfortable as possible. Hey, she’s a fighter, as she proved while channeling Barbra Streisand in her Harper’s Bazaar shoot , but she still needs a bit of a comfort zone.

First Image of Colin Farrell in Horrible Bosses Gets Ugly

Before heading off to fantasyland to star in that imaginary production of the Ozzy Osbourne biopic , Colin Farrell has some actual work to do: Like film Horrible Bosses ! As one of the titular horrors, the former troublemaker is part of an overwhelmingly large cast — the likes of which haven’t been seen since, well, Margin Call . Colin Farrell Cast As Ozzy Osbourne?

The always-reliable Perez Hilton is reporting that Colin Farrell has signed on to play the Prince of Darkness himself in the upcoming Ozzy biopic. Reportedly Ozzy wanted an unknown from his hometown of Birmingham while Sharon was hoping for Johnny Depp, but I think Colin’s a fine choice to play the bat-hungry Ozzy. No word on who might play the power-behind-the-Satanic-throne, Sharon, but I’m hoping Tilda Swinton’s dance card is free. What do you think? [ Perez Hilton ]

Colin Farrell and Eric Bana Circling New Sheldon Turner Film

It looks like Sheldon Turner might have gotten his Oscar season frustrations out with the help of Final Draft. The Up in the Air co-writer has his directorial debut lined up: By Virtue Fall , a drama that “charts a professional and personal relationship between two characters that evolves from friendship to betrayal and retribution.” So, it’s a reality-based tale about his Academy Award rivalry with Jason Reitman? Got it. Adding to the fun: wild card Nicolas Chartier’s Voltage Pictures is setting up the financing for the indie, which may star Colin Farrell and Eric Bana. [ Deadline ]

Does Horrible Bosses Break The Rule of Too Many Movie Stars?

Despite the fact that this was The Slowest News Day of 2010 v.2 , there was a bit of somewhat exciting trade news to pass along. The Kevin Spacey comeback tour has found a new stop: Horrible Bosses , the Strangers on a Train -like all-star comedy from director Seth Gordon. Spacey will play one of the titular bosses, alongside Jennifer Aniston and Colin Farrell; line-cutting denier Jason Bateman , Jason Sudekis and Charlie Day will play the three friends conspiring to kill said bosses; Donald Sutherland will show up too; and Jamie Foxx appears as someone named “Motherf*cker Jones,” the man who helps the friends consummate their plot. Were Ashton Kutcher and Jessica Alba not available?

The Verge: Alicja Bachleda

Some roles change an actress’s career, and then some roles change her life. Neil Jordan’s fairy-tale thriller Ondine did both for 27-year-old Alicja Bachleda, who stars in the title role as a mysterious young woman caught in the net of the Irish fisherman Syracuse (Colin Farrell). Revived and stabilized, she is thought by both Syracuse and his physically ailing daughter to possibly be a selkie — the mythical sea-woman creature of Irish folklore. Ondine’s gifts for singing fish into Syracuse’s net and treating the sick girl only compound the suspicion; their increasing closeness sets up a romance both on- and offscreen (Bachleda and Farrell became an item on the set, having a son together in 2008), not to mention a quintessentially Jordan-esque meditation on a woman who isn’t what she appears to be.

Ewan McGregor Revives Don Quixote

When last we checked in on Terry Gilliam’s oft-besieged passion project, The Man Who Killed Don Quixote , the already-cast Robert Duvall told us that Gilliam was looking for another name actor, since “the Irish guy who was in Crazy Heart turned him down.” (That’d be Colin Farrell.) Good news: Gilliam’s locked in Ewan McGregor. The film will shoot this September, and we’ll all keep our fingers very, very crossed. [ Empire ]
