Critics’ Choice Awards Love The Social Network And Natalie Portman As Much As Everyone Else Did

Last night the Broadcast Film Critics Association doled out their yearly accolades for the best acheivements in film, with many of the usual suspects getting the gold. The Social Network won best picture, Natalie Portman best actress, Colin Firth best actor, and so on (although Inception cleaned up fairly well in the technical categories. Might this be a portent for bigger things?). At this rate, the Golden Globes might be a bit of snoozefest. The full list of winners after the jump.

JWoww Kalls Out Kim Kardashian

JWoww roughed up Sammi on this week’s Jersey Shore . But lest you think she was done throwing down for the week, she had some words for Kim Kardashian as well. Specifically Kim’s newer, fuller lips. The MTV celebrity has no tolerance for stars who won’t “man up” to having work done, writing “Funny how stars don’t man up to plastic surgery.” “I did. Blaming it on colds, etc. is just hysterical. Get real!” Amusingly, Heidi Montag, who famously underwent 10 plastic surgeries in one day, re-tweeted this comment. Kim says she’s never tried to hide anything. “I’m the first one to talk about anything that I do,” she told Extra. “It really pisses me off that all of these plastic surgery rumors are always linked to me.” “I have the flu,” Kardashian explained of her plumper pout. “I’m puffy and swollen, and I have no make-up on. Why would I just do my bottom lip?” Kim? Upset about rumors involving her? We doubt it. Still, JWoww has a point. Just because Kim’s 2sexy2tweet doesn’t mean she has to lie about it.

DVD: The Best Colin Firth Performance You’ve Probably Never Seen

As awards season kicks into high, and pundits and audiences alike unpack their adjectives to describe Colin Firth’s performance in The King’s Speech , it seemed like the right time to mention one of his wonderfully charming and funny turns that was barely seen in this country — his starring role in Fever Pitch (out of print on DVD but available from Netflix ). No, not the Drew Barrymore/Jimmy Fallon Fever Pitch , although both films were based on the same novel.

SAG Award Nominations Led By ‘King’s Speech,’ ‘Fighter’

Nominated actors also include Jeff Bridges and 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld for ‘True Grit.’ By Eric Ditzian Colin Firth and Helena Bonham Carter in “The King’s Speech” Photo: See Saw Films The Screen Actors Guild Awards nailed it last year. The organization’s picks for outstanding actor, actress, supporting actor and supporting actress all ended up winning Oscars in their respective categories. Will the SAGs end up being an accurate Academy Award predictor once again this year? The new nominations were announced Thursday morning (December 16), honoring both longtime Oscar front-runner “The King’s Speech” and freshly energized “The Fighter” with four nominations each. “The Social Network,” which was expected to be a serious contender for multiple Oscars, received just two nods. “Black Swan” and “The Kids Are All Right” nabbed three nominations each. The 17th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards will be aired on TNT and TBS on Sunday, January 30, at 8 p.m. ET from the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles. SAG’s top honor goes not to a film and its producers but to the project’s entire cast. The nominees this year are “Black Swan,” “The Fighter,” “The Kids Are All Right,” “The King’s Speech” and “The Social Network.” The category of Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role veered slightly away from the Golden Globe nominations in the dramatic actor category earlier this week, with Robert Duval (“Get Low”) and Jeff Bridges (“True Grit”) sneaking into the pack. They join Jesse Eisenberg (“The Social Network”), Colin Firth (“The King’s Speech”) and James Franco (“127 Hours”). Annette Bening (“The Kids Are All Right”) and Natalie Portman (“Black Swan”) remain Oscar front-runners after being recognized for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor, alongside Nicole Kidman (“Rabbit Hole”), Jennifer Lawrence (“Winter’s Bone”) and Hilary Swank (“Conviction”). Christian Bale (“The Fighter”) continued his stellar awards season with a nod for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role. His fellow nominees are John Hawkes (“Winter’s Bone”), Jeremy Renner (“The Town”), Mark Ruffalo (“The Kids Are All Right”) and Geoffrey Rush (“The King’s Speech”). Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role appears to be a wide-open field, with nods going to Amy Adams (“The Fighter”), Helena Bonham Carter (“The King’s Speech”), Mila Kunis (“Black Swan”), Melissa Leo (“The Fighter”) and 14-year-old Hailee Steinfeld (“True Grit”). After notching the most Globe nominations, HBO rose to the top of the SAG class this year with nine nominations (AMC owned the field last year). Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama nods went to “Boardwalk Empire,” “The Closer,” “Dexter,” “The Good Wife” and “Mad Men.” Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy nominations went to “30 Rock,” “Glee,” “Hot in Cleveland,” “Modern Family” and “The Office.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
