Let’s break it all down in the wrong order: We’ll start by discussing the five declared entrants into the Top 24 and conclude with our (my) feelings about the remaining hopefuls. EXCLUSIVE : Still don’t trust Robbie Rosen.

What If We Reinvented Awards Season As a Playoff Tournament?

Has awards season become a tad repetitive for your tastes? Sure, the recent surge by The King’s Speech over The Social Network is exciting, I suppose, but at this point how many awards can we see Natalie Portman and Colin Firth win against basically the same competition before we all collectively throw up our hands and say, “OK, we get it. Can we just move on to the Oscars now? Or at least try something different ?” Here’s an idea: What if every single awards ceremony were important?

‘The King’s Speech’ Actors, Director Overjoyed By Oscar Nods

‘Not used to this much joy, or this much champagne at this hour,’ best-actor nominee Colin Firth said in a statement. By Jocelyn Vena Colin Firth in “The Kings Speech” Photo: The Weinstein Company “The King’s Speech” leads all films with 12 nominations for next month’s 83rd Academy Awards . The Tom Hooper-directed flick scored Oscar nods for Best Picture, Actor in a Leading Role, Actor in a Supporting Role and Actress in a Supporting Role, to name a few. The movie’s lead actor, Colin Firth, expressed his excitement over his nod in a statement to MTV News. “Currently celebrating with my colleagues three feet above the ground,” said Firth, who also received a best-actor nomination last year for “A Single Man.” “Not used to this much joy, or this much champagne at this hour.” Firth also spoke to the “Today” show shortly after the nominations were announced early Tuesday morning (January 25). “It seems like I was fired out of a cannon this time last year,” Firth said about his Actor in a Leading Role nod. “And now it’s like I’m orbiting Pluto.” His co-star Geoffrey Rush opened up about his Actor in a Supporting Role nom to MTV News. “As an Australian, I’m as excited to be recognized and honored by the Academy as my character must have been when his London speech-therapy business flourished when the future King of England happened to pop by one day,” Rush said in a statement. “This story has struck such a rich resonant chord with audiences of all ages, which is very exciting — to have your work honored by your industry peers is even better.” Hooper, who picked up a nod in the Directing category, also issued a statement to MTV. “I am absolutely overwhelmed by the twelve Oscar nominations for ‘The King’s Speech.’ I am so grateful to the Academy,” Hooper said. “I am incredibly proud of my extraordinary cast and crew. This is a day I will remember for the rest of my life.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The King’s Speech.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Your Complete List of 2011 Golden Globe Winners

Lost in the jubilation around Movieline HQ over the fact that Ricky Gervais took a flamethrower to Hollywood, the Golden Globes, Cher, Scientology, Tim Allen and The Tourist (sorry, Stephanie ), was the fact that actual awards were handed out on Sunday night. And they weren’t all that ridiculous! To wit: The Social Network won everything that Christian Bale, Melissa Leo and Natalie Portman didn’t. Toss in some deserved trophies for Chris Colfer, Jane Lynch and Katey Sagal, and you’ve got a pretty successful meaningless awards ceremony. Relive the fun over at our liveblog , and click ahead for your full list of winners.

Friday Box Office: Green Hornet Has Sallow Opening Night, Dilemma Self-Destructs

On the weekend of the Golden Globes, a couple of prize turkeys were trotted out at the box office to little effect. Seth Rogen’s long-delayed Green Hornet opened at a weak number one, while Vince Vaughn’s Dilemma barely made a splash at number two. But hey, The King’s Speech opened wide at number four and did okay! Your Friday box office is here.

Critics’ Choice Awards Love The Social Network And Natalie Portman As Much As Everyone Else Did

Last night the Broadcast Film Critics Association doled out their yearly accolades for the best acheivements in film, with many of the usual suspects getting the gold. The Social Network won best picture, Natalie Portman best actress, Colin Firth best actor, and so on (although Inception cleaned up fairly well in the technical categories. Might this be a portent for bigger things?). At this rate, the Golden Globes might be a bit of snoozefest. The full list of winners after the jump.
