Lloyd Banks Has Plans For Recently Freed Prodigy

Rapper says he and Mobb Deep vet ‘gonna get something done.’ By D.L. Chandler, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lloyd Banks Photo: MTV News G-Unit foot solider Lloyd Banks is enjoying quite the resurgence in his nearly decade-long career. The “Beamer, Benz or Bentley” rapper sat down with MTV News in Las Vegas to talk about the public reception of his H.F.M. 2 (Hunger for More 2) album, longevity in the rap game and collaborating with recently freed rap veteran Prodigy, of Mobb Deep fame. Regarding his latest album, Banks said, “I feel like the reception matches the first one. For me, it’s gonna have a little more extra meaning to it,” he continued, “because I remember you come in as a brand-new artist, you feel like it’s gonna be that way forever.” “I was just watching Snoop perform,” he added. “In my mind, I’m like, ‘Damn, it’s going two decades into the game,’ and I’ve been in the game approaching a decade now with putting out music. It’s kind of expected for you to do good, then 10 years later when you do good, it’s a whole ‘nother feeling.” The self-proclaimed Punch Line King announced a special track he has in mind for his former G-Unit teammate Prodigy. “I haven’t spoken to him yet,” Banks said. “We gonna get something done.” Banks added that he has, however, been in contact with the gruff-voiced rapper’s longtime producer and comrade the Alchemist and promised that the pair will work together. He mentioned that he already has a record in mind for the collaboration, which would include another artist. “I had the crazy record, [but] I’m not gonna say the other feature, but hopefully I get a good one,” he teased. Kanye West Recruits Drake, Big Sean For ‘All Of The Lights’ Remix

Drizzy verse is reportedly different from the one he recorded for earlier version. By Jayson Rodriguez Kanye West Photo: Getty Images Kanye West has been quiet, by his standards, ever since releasing his last album, and most assume the MC/producer went off the radar to finish working on his collaboration album with Jay-Z, Watch the Throne. But now, it seems, ‘Ye has more in store than just his project with Hov. According to a tweet by Los Angeles spin doctor DJ Franzen, West has recruited Big Sean and Drake for the remix to his current single, “All of the Lights.” “Drizzy murdered the ‘All of the Lights’ remix with @kanyewest,” the DJ wrote . “He played it at the Suite Party last night! I heard it 1st last Sat.” A verse from the Thank Me Later star originally appeared on an early version of “All of the Lights” that landed online before the release of My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. But on the album version, Drake is one of a many vocalists, including Rihanna , Elton John, Fergie, La Roux , John Legend and more, and his voice is indistinguishable from the others on the track. Drake’s earlier verse will reportedly be replaced with a new set of rhymes for the remix, according to Complex magazine. Last last year, in an interview with Eminem’s Shade 45 satellite radio show, Drake talked about his “All of the Lights” contribution not making Yeezy’s album. “Kanye’s creative process is ever-changing,” Drake explained. “We make music differently. I make what comes to me and I hate changing it, whereas ‘Ye will change something 30 or 40 times to get it perfect. To each their own, and the change was to put all those people on it, and I wasn’t one of them. That’s completely OK.” Check out what fans are already saying about anticipating the “All of the Lights” remix on Rapfix . Related Artists Drake Kanye West

Junior Sanchez Cuts Right To The ‘Raging’ On Seize The Fewcha

‘I tend to borrow from a lot of different genres, because my palette is really pretty wide with music,’ DJ/producer tells MTV News of mix CD. By Adam Stewart Junior Sanchez Photo: MTV News Hip-hop heavyweights aren’t the only ones making waves with mixtapes these days. Dance music has taken the States by storm, and world-class DJs are having a field day with the seemingly endless supply of fresh beats and distinctly unique sounds. One of the best in the biz is veteran DJ/producer Junior Sanchez . After the massive success of “Where You Are,” his collaboration with Harry “Choo Choo” Romero and Alexander Technique, and the forthcoming release “I Believe In,” slated for Miami in March (both released on Steve Angello’s Size Records), Sanchez has positioned himself to be one of the biggest names of 2011, starting with his powerful new mix CD, Seize the Fewcha. “A lot of people build a CD and build it up, but I was like, ‘Let’s just go for the gusto and play all of these amazing tracks that people really don’t get to hear,’ ” Sanchez told MTV News. “I don’t have seven hours to build to that moment. So you just want to get to that moment and get to the moment where everyone is just kind of raging.” Junior dives headfirst into the meat of Seize the Fewcha, hitting heavy right out of the gate with the Armand Van Helden and Steve Aoki collaboration “BRRRAT!” and moving swiftly into a dubstep homage to dot-com dating with a remix of Christopher Just’s “You Looked Much Cuter (On My Computer).” “There’s a lot of dubstep influence,” he said. “I love cats like Rusko, and when I make dance music in general, I tend to borrow from a lot of different genres, because my palette is really pretty wide with music.” Sanchez dabbles in some of the freshest floor-fillers ever thrown on to one disc. From the digitally distorted and mind-bending “Attack Muzik” by Sanchez and DJ Reza to “Select Start,” a techno-laden, infectiously hooked monster pumped out by up-and-coming Russians Hard Rock Sofa and Swanky Tunes, the level of intensity and off-kilter variety of Sanchez’s track selection never ceases to amaze. Garnished intermittently with Cirez-D “Total Departure”-esque infinite builds throughout “Elevator,” featuring Joel and Benji from Good Charlotte, and “nEthang!,” a classic electro groove that only Felix Da Housecat and Junior Sanchez could conjure up, Seize the Fewcha is a dazzling commentary on what is and what will be huge in dance music over the next year. Having produced Katy Perry’s “Ur So gay” and, most recently, Mya’s upcoming album, Sanchez is a true renaissance man whose talents are sought after by some of the biggest names in the game. “I’m working on her album; it’s kind of like a rediscovery of Mya, a reinvention of Mya. We are doing some really interesting sounds,” he said. “It’s a lot of dance-influenced stuff, but there are some tracks that are really dark pop, like really industrial; kind of Depeche Mode-influenced, but it’s still really dance-y. It’s a gambit of creativity, but the main thing at the end of it is like the songs are there. The songs are amazing.” Sanchez is also poised to release an R&B /dance record with newcomer O’Neil McKnight entitled “Crazy.” “It’s amazing. He’s an amazing artist. And he’s the future of R&B right there, for sure,” Sanchez said. “It’s a dance track. It’s kind of like what [Sanchez] does best: Dance music meets ’80s,” McKnight said. “Everybody who has heard it thus far has been going crazy. I was at Puffy’s house a couple weeks ago, and he was playing it, like, 30 times just dancing around. He was like, ‘This is so refreshing,’ so it’s a good feel!” Related Artists Junior Sanchez

Will Christina Aguilera And Jennifer Hudson Tour Together?

On Monday, Hudson took to Twitter to ask fans what they thought about a joint tour with Aguilera. By James Dinh Christina Aguilera Photo: Denise Truscello/ WireImage After Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Hudson joined forces for the Aretha Franklin tribute at the 53rd annual Grammy Awards, it appears as if one of the big-voiced divas wouldn’t mind taking their collaboration on the road. On Monday, Hudson took to Twitter to ask fans what they thought about her co-headlining a tour with the blond bombshell. “I c alot of u guys want to see more of me n Christina together . What yal think about us touring together ?” Hudson tweeted . After revealing the star-studded concept, Jennifer admitted that it was just an idea she was brainstorming. A rep for Aguilera had no comment when MTV News reached out Tuesday (February 22). With Hudson’s I Remember Me hitting stores in exactly one month, a tour seems like a great way to bring her new music to fans. Hudson’s sophomore effort marks the songstress’ first musical offering since the tragic murder of her mother, brother and nephew in 2008. Aguilera, who is no stranger to joint tours after partnering up with Justin Timberlake for the Justified/Stripped outing in 2003, has already been confirmed to hit the road this year after postponing her summer tour last year. Even before the singer’s Bionic album was met with lackluster sales and mixed reviews, the powerhouse diva postponed her tour due to time constraints. In an open letter to fans, Christina wrote , “After reviewing the schedule with my team, I realized there was not enough time to put together and rehearse for a proper show, one that is at the caliber you expect from me or at the level I would present to my fans.” Would you like to see Christina and Jennifer tour together? J. Cole, Wale NBA All-Star Weekend Show Features Drake, Melanie Fiona

Drake and J. Cole sing ‘In the Morning,’ before Fiona, Cole and Wale perform ‘Beautiful Bliss.’ By Steven Roberts, with additional reporting by Janice Llamoca J. Cole Photo: MTV News NBA All-Star Weekend is officially under way in Los Angeles, and Wale and J. Cole helped to kick it off with a sold-out show at the House of Blues in West Hollywood on Friday night. The Roc Nation duo treated their fans, who had braved the uncharacteristically cold and damp Southern California weather, with an amazing performance as well as a surprise guest. Drake hit the stage during J. Cole’s set to perform their salacious smash hit “In the Morning.” The crowd erupted as soon as the track began to play, but it got even louder once Drake hit the stage to seduce nearly every young lady in attendance with his romantic style. “Baby, you wintertime cold/ The night is still young, drink that dinner wine slow/ I’m trying to make the goose bumps on your inner thigh show.” J. Cole and Drake released the video for the track this past week on Valentine’s Day. It features behind-the-scenes footage from their Paris stop on Drake’s Lights, Dreams and Nightmares European tour. When MTV News caught up with Cole before the show, he said that video was meant to be something really organic, even though it’s becoming something much bigger. “It was really a viral video. At the end of the day, it wasn’t supposed to be a Hype Williams production or nothing. I wanted it to be really organic, just to document the tour. Just to document that moment in my life, or our lives, touring Europe for the first time.” Cole said this was his first All-Star weekend, and he loved the energy it brought to the town. He has been in L.A. for two weeks now, since the Grammy Awards as well as working on his project with Kendrick Lamar . He said he hopes to play in the All-Star celebrity game next year to fulfill his hoop dreams. Another Canadian singer hopped on the stage as well. Fellow Roc Nation artist Melanie Fiona joined Cole and Wale onstage for their first-ever performance of Wale’s “Beautiful Bliss.” Wale opened his show with his usual vigor. During his set, which included tracks from his More About Nothing mixtape and Attention Deficit, the crowd roared once his collaboration with Waka Flocka and Roscoe Dash came on. But by that time, he had already cleared a space for himself to dance and shake his dreads as the crowd helped him rap. As far as he was concerned, it was business as usual, making sure the crowd had an amazing time. “We’re used to this now. We’ve done a lot of sold-out shows together. I just think the significance of this is it being All-Star weekend,” Wale said. “I think being a quote-unquote ‘real’ hip-hop show, that’s what makes it special.”
