In an exclusive sit-down with MTV News, Nas spoke on his upcoming work with Odd Future singer/songwriter Frank Ocean . In April, the Illmatic rapper tweeted , “In the studio with my little n—a @frank_ocean,” and just last week he opened up to Sway about the collaboration and Ocean’s appeal. “He’s new, he’s fresh. He doesn’t sound fly-by-night. The moment you hear it — I hear what he’s sayin’, and I relate. He got me as soon as I heard it,” Nas said. The Queensbridge MC, who, like Ocean, is signed to Def Jam, feels that the 23-year-old talent has already proved he has chops. “He’s a Def Jam artist that’s been slept-on and he’s proven himself. He’s proven himself and I think he has a lot to offer,” the rapper explained. “We met, he played some music and we’re excited. We’ll see what happens. Nothing’s totally complete, but we have started recording some things.” Frank Ocean has earned critical acclaim thanks to the release of Nostalgia, Ultra, a free Internet album he released on his Tumblr page in February. The album’s de facto single, “Novacane,” has gained momentum, debuting at #65 this week on Billboard ‘s R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In addition to Nas, the singer has been in the studio writing for Justin Bieber, Brandy and John Legend and recently had a session with Beyonc

Lady Gaga’s ‘Born This Way’ Bollywood Remix Is ‘Magical,’ Producers Say

Composers Salim-Sulaiman says Gaga had a ‘very positive response’ to their version. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Shortly after dropping a country-fried version of “Born This Way,” Indian composers Salim-Sulaiman were approached to do a Bollywood version of the song , breathing new life into the chart-topping track and putting their own Desi seal on it. “It was kind of difficult to start with,” Sulaiman Merchant told MTV News, crediting entertainment website Desi Hits! for helping to curate the collaboration. “It’s been such a big track, it’s been very popular, and when you consider the style, it’s very aggressive. It’s got all the stuff that’s required to make it a nice clubby track, so for us, the most important thing was: How do you get it into a zone where it’s palpable to the Indian flavor? And the first thing we did was bring in a sitar, and that changed the flavor a little bit. We kept the aggression but changed the style and made it a little more four on the floor, a little more house.” Salim Merchant added that “we wanted to bring in an Indian sound … and give a Sufi touch as well.” He explained that after getting over some initial nerves, “It’s fantastic how it all turned out. There was this little pressure because the song was #1. I guess once we put that baggage behind … it was magical. Once we started it, everything came into place. It became a celebration.” While Gaga is a global superstar, Sulaiman said she has yet to really permeate India’s pop culture. “Lady Gaga hasn’t been as popular as we would like it to be over here, so this track wasn’t as big before,” he said. “We finished the mix, and now it’s getting into the zone where it’s gaining popularity. It’s a great way to get eyeballs and ears onto Lady Gaga.” Has Gaga given the guys any indication of how she feels about the track? “She has liked it,” Salim said. “She did mention she really loves it. When we did send her the final version, we did get a big very, very positive response. She really loved it. That’s what she mentioned. I’m really happy. Finally the artist is Gaga about the song.” What do you think of the Bollywood version of “Born This Way”? Let us know in the comments! Rihanna Addresses ‘X Factor’ Rumors

‘It’s something that I would have loved to do,’ singer says on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show. By Jocelyn Vena Rihanna Photo: Michael Tran/ FilmMagic Rihanna was rumored to be a potential judge on “X Factor,” alongside Simon Cowell and her former label boss L.A. Reid . However, the songstress confirmed to Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday (April 13) that while there were discussions about her joining the show, she couldn’t put her career on hold long enough to commit. “I just heard about it actually, but, yes, it’s something that I would have loved to do, actually. But our schedule doesn’t allow and it’s a demanding schedule to be on that show. You have to be around months at a time, which is impossible for me.” What was easier to schedule was getting Britney Spears on the remix of her track “S&M.” “It was automatic; it was a go. She was great, really professional,” she said of the track, which was released earlier this week. “I think that’s what makes this collaboration so successful: It’s two female artists within the same genre of music. We have similar sounds. It’s very unexpected to see two artists collaborate and get together. The fans are really appreciative of that.” She added that while the song is “very provocative,” she thinks people need to take the lyrics and redirect the message to be about something more than just sex. “When I first heard this record, I automatically knew those words didn’t mean [that] … it was about my love-hate relationship with the media,” she explained of the message, one that Spears can also certainly relate to. “I knew what the song was to me and I wanted to make that point in the video. The video got banned in a lot of countries even though I didn’t think it was that raunchy. I thought it was fun and quirky. I really didn’t expect the song to go this far.” Rihanna’s upcoming busy schedule includes performing at the Billboard Music Awards next month and co-headlining the V Festival with Eminem in the U.K. this August. Lady Gaga’s ‘Judas’ Video Is ‘Groundbreaking,’ Laurieann Gibson Says

‘It’s a phenomenal video: really powerful, really impactful,’ creative director tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Vanessa WhiteWolf Lady Gaga Photo: Tom Briglia/ WireImage Lady Gaga is ready to tell her version of the Bible in her “Judas” video , which recently wrapped production in L.A. MTV News caught up with the video’s co-director and Gaga’s creative director, Laurieann Gibson, to talk about the clip as well as her new E! show “The Dance Scene,” debuting Sunday. “I will tell you now, first off, I’m Christian, and my career is evidence of God in my life, and I think that most people are already thinking that Gaga and the blasphemy and they’re premeditating the approach and I think they’ll be very shocked to find out how huge and really groundbreaking the message is and how freeing the message is for all the right reasons,” she said. “And it’s really going to shock the world.” The cast includes some big-name cameos as well, including Norman Reedus as Judas. “He was so prolific,” she declared of his performance, adding that the video is “badass” and that Gaga will play Mary Magdalene. The two ladies took it upon themselves to make sure the video’s direction was perfect — so they just decided to direct it themselves. “There was elements of ‘Born This Way’ during our collaboration [with director Nick Knight] and, as much as I loved it, there were moments where, for me, it didn’t really evolve as I had inspired of the actual creative, which was defined. “But when we got to ‘Judas,’ it was very clear to me and the inspiration was very clear to her. We approached a director, but then the dates actually got messed up and it was conflicted and her manager and her looked at me [and asked me to direct it with her].” Gibson said she took a moment before agreeing, as she had just wrapped up work on Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball HBO special , premiering in May, but she “couldn’t resist. It’s a phenomenal video: really powerful, really impactful. She’s such a strong, committed artist. Her loyalty to me is something I will be forever grateful for. We’re spiritually connected. We need each other, and ‘Judas’ is ultimately a representation of our true bond.” What are you expecting from the “Judas” video? Let us know in the comments!
