B.o.B Has ‘Always’ Been A Fan Of Paramore’s Hayley Williams

‘People who go to my shows are the same people that go to Paramore shows,’ he says of ‘Airplanes’ collaborator. By Steven Roberts Hayley Williams Photo: Christopher Polk/ Getty Images Last week, B.o.B released the single “Airplanes,” featuring Paramore leading lady Hayley Williams. The Atlanta rapper followed that up with “Airplanes (Part II),” this time with Eminem joining Williams in the guest spot . Both tracks are from the MC’s debut album, B.o.B Presents: The Adventures of Bobby Ray, due April 27. When MTV News caught up with Williams recently, the Paramore singer sounded psyched to jump on the record . “I was given the track awhile ago while we were on tour,” she told MTV News. “The guys and I all loved it. They told me I was crazy if I passed it up. I liked the part too much anyways. So, of course, I was down.” Williams also revealed that she was a big fan of B.o.B, whom she called a “genius.” B.o.B was just as excited about the collaboration when MTV News met up with him before his packed show at SOB’s last week. “First off, Paramore is the sh–,” B.o.B said. “I’ve always been a Hayley fan, and to work with her, that’s another thing I didn’t think would happen to me as soon as it did.” Although the duo didn’t get in the studio together, B.o.B said he and the Paramore vocalist talked, and she really liked the song’s vibe. While the pairing might seem like an odd one, especially considering Williams has never done any rap features, B.o.B said he’d observed that his fans’ musical tastes are as eclectic as his are. “That’s something that I notice,” he said. “Like, if I do my shows and I go out to the crowd and talk to people, I’ll ask them what type of music they listen to. Everybody listens to everything. People who go to my shows are the same people that go to Paramore shows, are the same people that go to a Lupe [Fiasco] show or a Common show, because it’s all about the music, and it’s all about the energy put behind it.” B.o.B said he was fortunate not only to get to work with Williams, but also many of the artists on his album. More than securing a simple “yes,” schedules were often a key factor. “The timing of everything is real divine. It almost seems like it’s supposed to happen,” he said. “It’s kind of freaky sometimes how my first album — I have so many people on it. And these are people that inspire me tremendously, and just to have them on the album is amazing.” Were you surprised to hear Hayley on a B.o.B track? Who else would you like to hear the MC with? Consequence Reveals How Asher Roth Ended Up On ‘Childish Games’

The Queens rapper almost didn’t go to the show where he met Roth. By Steven Roberts Asher Roth and Consequence in the music video for “Childish Games” Photo: Motown The video for Consequence’s “Childish Games,” first featured on his mixtape Movies on Demand, recently debuted on MTV, but the collaboration between the Queens, New York, rapper and Asher Roth almost never popped off. Directed by Rik Cordero, the clip captures the song’s comparison of popular schoolyard activities to the games adults play. A split-second decision to perform a show — and skip a hyped Diddy affair — led to the duo’s joint effort. “We were doing a concert in Flint, Michigan, for [the city’s] local radio station,” Consequence said. “They were the first [radio DJs] who stepped out on ‘Whatever You Want’ and added it, before we even went for adds. They asked me to do the concert, and I was like, ‘Cool.’ But the week I was doing that concert was the same week that Diddy was having his birthday party out [in New York City], and I really didn’t put two and two together until the last minute.” More than simply partying, Con was actively trying to secure Diddy and the LOX for what would become the Bad Boy remix of “Whatever You Want.” He was browsing the Louis Vuitton store for a possible ensemble, Con said, when it finally hit him that the concert date coincided with the mogul’s bash. “Long story short, I just had to eat not going to the Diddy party or whatever,” Con said. “I flew out to Michigan. When I get to the hotel, I see Asher’s road manager. He introduces himself. He’s like, ‘Yo, we really love you. You’ve got this slogan you say, and I don’t know if you know it’s a slogan, but it’s our slogan, and it’s ‘I’mma do me regardless.’ ” Con explained that the slogan was from an episode of his YouTube channel Cons TV. Choosing work over partying meant Consequence got a chance to enjoy Asher’s set and really pay attention to him as an MC. After the show, Con played a rough version of “Childish Games” for Roth, who was happy to jump on the song. “He was like, ‘Yo, that’s totally where I’m trying to go with the next record,’ ” Con recalled. The Asleep in the Bread Aisle rapper really wanted people to embrace him as a lyricist, he told Con. “Lo and behold, he came with the verse, and I was like, ‘I hope I ain’t get “Renegade”-d, man,” Con joked, referring to the Jay-Z song, on which many fans think he was bested by featured rapper Eminem. Dr. Dre Says Jay-Z Collaboration, ‘Under Pressure,’ Could Be Out In Two Weeks

Dre also tells CNBC’s Maria Bartiromo that long-awaited Detox LP is ‘definitely’ coming out this year. By Jayson Rodriguez Dr. Dre Photo: Denise Truscello/WireImage Dr. Dre’s long-awaited Detox LP is no longer just urban legend. The producer has announced that the first single, “Under Pressure,” featuring Jay-Z , will hit the airwaves this month. The West Coast hip-hop icon revealed the information Monday (April 6) during an interview on “Closing Bell With Maria Bartiromo” on CNBC. “Hopefully we’ll be releasing that in the next two weeks or so,” he said of the track. “And I’m definitely gonna be putting out the album this year. Finally. I think everyone is gonna be happy with it.” The move is the first tangible evidence that the album will actually be released. In the past, Dre has repeatedly attempted to assure fans that the follow-up to Dr. Dre 2001 (a.k.a. The Chronic 2001 ) would eventually see the light of day. But as the years passed and material for Detox instead landed on albums by Eminem and 50 Cent, fans compared Dr. Dre’s promises to those made by Axl Rose when he withheld a Guns N’ Roses follow-up album for 15 years until the 2008 release of Chinese Democracy. It’s been 11 years since Dre last released an album. But late last year, in an interview with MTV News, Dre told Jay-Z to “Come holler” and contribute to Detox. Over the weekend, Dre (via Jimmy Iovine) confirmed Jay-Z landed on the project when he spoke to ESPN while attending a Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees baseball game. Word first arose about the collaboration when E! correspondent Michael Yo tweeted late last month that the two worked on a song that Dre’s label, Interscope Records, was very happy about. In the meantime, Dre put the pressure on himself, telling Bartiromo he has no other projects on his plate at the time. “That’s it right now,” he said, referring to Detox. Just trying to finish this record, finally get it done and get it out and start promoting it.” What do you think about a Dr. Dre and Jay-Z collaboration? The Verge: Nash and Joel Edgerton

Watch out, Chris and Liam Hemsworth: there’s another pair of Australian brothers on the rise. Nash and Joel Edgerton have a long background in entertainment — 35-year-old Joel acted in the Star Wars prequels as Owen Lars and starred in the recent Sundance hit Animal Kingdom , while 37-year-old Nash has done stunt work for some of the biggest blockbusters ever made — but with their new film The Square , they’re poised to break out Stateside. Nash directed the neo-noir, which finds a hapless adulterer scheming with an arsonist (played by Joel, who also wrote the screenplay) to pull off a con on his mistress’s husband. This being a crime drama, things do not go as planned. The brothers rang up Movieline today to discuss their collaboration, and they also dished on a ton of upcoming projects they’re involved with, including Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere , the Nick Nolte/Tom Hardy fighting drama Warrior , and Universal’s upcoming prequel to The Thing .

Bret Michaels Defends Miley Cyrus’ Part In ‘Nothin’ To Lose’

‘It has no reference to her and [me]. It’s not even a duet,’ Poison frontman says of provocative collaboration. By Jocelyn Vena Bret Michaels Photo: Michael N. Todaro/ Getty Images We already knew that Miley Cyrus and Bret Michaels were in a mutual fan club, but fans have been taken aback by the provocative nature of their collaboration “Nothin’ to Lose,” which hit the Internet on Thursday. The Poison frontman was quick to defend the ballad, in which the rocker and the teen queen sing about love and sex. “We both know better than this/ Still we can’t resist/ Slowly get undressed/ Won’t you fall down on me/ So close I can feel you breathe,” they sing in the chorus. But Michaels told UsMagazine.com that he didn’t even take into account the suggestive lyrics when they laid down their vocals. “It’s blown out of proportion,” he said, adding that he had gotten a number of texts about it. “I was like, ‘What the f— is going on?’ Everyone’s going nuts!” The song, which he said he wrote and recorded years back without Cyrus, got the 17-year-old’s attention while they were recording her cover of his tune “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” for her next album. Michaels said Cyrus’ mother was with them in a New York recording studio when he played “Nothin’ to Lose,” which he says will appear on his album due out in June. “[Miley’s] like, ‘This is an incredible song, it’s beautiful. Maybe I could [add] some stuff to it, some harmonies.’ I said, ‘That’d be killer!’ ” he said. “She was excited that she didn’t have to follow any rules. I never sat down and said, ‘Look at the content. Look at the lyrical content.’ “The part where it says she slowly gets undressed, Miley says, ‘Yeah, she does,’ ” Michaels continued. “It has no reference to her and [me]. It’s not even a duet. As God is my witness, there is nothing I have to be defensive about. I’m a good dad. I just thought it was a beautiful song. ” What do you think about “Nothin’ to Lose”? Soulja Boy Tell’em On ‘All The Way Turnt Up’ Video With Roscoe Dash

‘That sounds like a ‘Turn My Swag On’ times 10. Man, I gotta get on that,’ rapper said of the collaboration. By Hillary Crosley Soulja Boy Tell’em Photo: MTV News Soulja Boy Tell’em recently broke from recording his forthcoming album, The DeAndre Way, to team up with up-and-coming rapper Roscoe Dash for a remix of the hit “All the Way Turnt Up.” The clip debuted on Monday (February 22) and is currently the Jam of the Week on “MTV Jams.” “When I first heard the ‘All the Way Turnt Up’ song by Roscoe Dash, it reminded me of myself,” Soulja Boy told MTV News. “I was like, ‘That sounds like a “Turn My Swag On” times 10. Man, I gotta get on that.’ ” The pair filmed the clip in an Atlanta warehouse, but Soulja Boy is clear that the video shoot was only a short break from his dedication to his producing craft. “My album is complete but I record every day just to do it,” said Soulja Boy. “I been had my single, I just leaked a lot of songs that people liked just as much as [a single. This] time, I’m going to do it right so this time when I drop the song, there’s going to be a visual and it’s going to be money.” The teen said he’s learned a lot from positive people around him, including Kanye West. “Kanye’s always been supportive of my music and he wanted me to do a remix for ‘Robocop’ on his 808s and Heartbreak album,” said Soulja Boy. “He gave me a lot of advice in the studio. He’s real cool.” The young star says that he’s grown up since the world’s first introduction to “Crank Dat.” “What’s different about this album is just me as an artist, period,” said Soulja Boy. “My lyrics and word play, my punch lines, my metaphors is on another level, my beats, my production skills … I just like to go to the studio and zone out. I learned how to take constructive criticism a lot better, so I just sit back and watch the game, seeing what everybody’s doing, who’s hot, who’s selling, what’s going on. My intentions are good for this third album, just ready to do it.” In preparation for The DeAndre Way, Soulja Boy recently released three mixtapes : Cortez by DJ Whoo Kid and Neptune, Paranormal Activity with DJ Scream and DatPiff with DJ Holiday. The official album is slated to hit shelves sometime this year. Related Artists Soulja Boy Tell’em

Chris Brown Releases Collaboration With Soulja Boy Tell’em On Mixtape

‘Bad’ makes its way onto the singer’s Valentine’s Day offering with DJ Drama, In My Zone. By Jayson Rodriguez Chris Brown Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Chris Brown ‘s much-discussed collaboration with Soulja Boy Tell’em was released over the weekend as a part of the singer’s Valentine’s Day mixtape effort with DJ Drama. The project, titled In My Zone, features a number of remakes, as Brown borrows notable songs such as Trey Songz’s “Say Aah” and “I Invented Sex” and Timbaland and Drake’s “Say Something.” The track with Soulja Boy, “Bad,” was initially slated for inclusion on Brown’s Graffiti album. He told MTV News about the track last November and described the number as “a nice little joint.” “Well, me and him, we been on tour together and we’re friends, so I was just like, ‘Yo, I gotta do a record with Soulja Boy,’ ” Brown explained of the tune, which was produced by Bangladesh (“A Milli,” “Diva”). “Because me and him are always gonna have, like, this kind of energy, just as far as kids, and with him, he does records that are, like, the easiest records ever. I’m not discrediting him, ’cause they’re big records, but he could talk about, ‘I got my shoes on, I got my hat on, but I’m fresh though,’ and it could be something funny. But it’s always something that can be catchy for kids, and I wanna do something that’s real cool for everybody.” “She looking at me, I’m looking at she, she’s bad as a mutha,” Brown sings over the staccato production. “She bad, she bad, she badder, hop up in my jag, my jag, my Jaguar,” the “Crank Dat” rapper spits. Soulja also spoke to MTV News last year about the track, saying if he and the “Crawl” star ever worked together the outcome would have to be phenomenal. “My approach to it was, if me and Chris Brown ever did a song together it got to be the best song ever,” he said. “When people hear it, it gotta be automatic, be in all the kids’ heads, all the girls definitely gotta love it, all the females gotta love it. That was my approach to it. I was just thinking, ‘What is the slickest lines I could say to a female to make them fall in love with this record?’ ” What do you think of Chris Brown and Soulja Boy Tell’em’s song “Bad”? Nicki Minaj Loved Making ‘Up Out My Face’ Video With Mariah Carey

‘I didn’t believe until I was physically in the studio that I was doing with something with Mariah,’ Minaj gushes. By Shaheem Reid Nicki Minaj Photo: MTV News Nicki Minaj says she was so surprised that she got a call to work with Mariah Carey on the remix of “Up Out My Face” that she kept the collaboration very hush-hush. “That one, I didn’t believe until I was physically in the studio that I was doing with something with Mariah,” the New York native told MTV News last week. “I didn’t even tell anyone I shot a video with Mariah, because I didn’t even believe. In the back of my mind, I felt like, ‘This video is not gonna come out. There’s no way I’m gonna do a video with Mariah Carey before I even put out my album.’ Then, when it came out, I think it was the #1 video on YouTube in one day, something crazy like that. She’s an icon, I’ve loved her since I was little, like ‘Vision of Love,’ ‘Someday.’ I was one of those little girls in the mirror singing her songs with my mother.” Much like her fellow Mariah Carey collaborator and good friend Gucci Mane , Minaj said the real Mariah was nothing like she imagined. “When I met her, she was so funny and silly,” Nicki recalled. “I thought when I was gonna work with Mariah, [she] was gonna be like this diva. But we were cracking jokes the whole day. She’s a sweet, down-to-earth person.” Nicki and Mimi had their names written on two giant baby doll boxes in the video. In the Nick Cannon-directed clip, the two bust out and have a good time changing outfits and playing with men. The doll angle plays perfectly with Nicki’s “black Barbie” persona. “I think it was dope,” Minaj said about the video. “A lot of times, more famous artists or more confident artists take from a younger artist but they’ll never include you in that. I feel like she liked the whole doll thing and she wanted to do it with me. But she said that: She said, ‘Everybody’s gonna say “she’s doing Nicki.” But I told her, she’s always had a doll persona, like all that ‘doll baby’ [stuff]. So it goes perfect with Barbie and we had fun. That’s all that matters.” The remix will appear on Mariah’s Angels Advocate remix LP, due on March 30. Nicki has been making the rounds with guest appearances recently, from Mariah to Robin Thicke’s “Shakin’ It 4 Daddy,” and of course Lil Wayne’s Rebirth, and she recently shot the video for “My Chick Bad” from Ludacris’ forthcoming Battle of the Sexes LP, which is slated for release early next month. “He sent me the beat. He didn’t have verses on it yet,” Minaj said about working beside Cris. “I told him, ‘You could take what I did to the next level because you’re animated and crazy. People know you for that. I kinda went animated and crazy on that. Luda is definitely one of those people — I love when people don’t take themselves too seriously.” Related Artists Nicki Minaj Mariah Carey
