Kaskade And Dragonette Vocalist Team Up For ‘Fire In Your New Shoes’

‘I wanted somebody who was on the pop-electro sound already,’ Kaskade says of choosing Martina Sorbara as his collaborator. By Akshay Bhansali Kaskade Photo: MTV News Earlier this year, progressive house-music producer Ryan Raddon — known to his fans around the world as Kaskade — found himself body-checking pop-music goliaths when his album Dynasty debuted at #5 on the iTunes album download charts, knocking Justin Bieber out of the top 10 that week. The album spent three consecutive weeks in the top 10, an indicator of popular music’s current appetite for faster beats per minute as well as a credit to Kaskade’s own skills. And while Dynasty features a mainstream dance collaboration with Dutch music titan Ti

Wiz Khalifa Calls Rick Ross’ ‘Super High’ Remix ‘A Blessing’

‘It was a good look for me,’ Wiz tells Mixtape Daily of Ross’ co-sign. By Shaheem Reid Wiz Khalifa The O.D.: A Mixtape Daily Exclusive Wiz Khalifa and his partner Curren$y aligned forces with Rick Ross for “Super High (Sativa Remix),” and the Spiff TV-directed viral video came out this week. “That was a blessing, dude,” Wiz said about the collaboration. “Ross just kept it G, dawg. He seen my movement, he seen Curren$y’s movement. He recognized what we do together, but he recognized us as individuals as well as a team. He reached out in a real way. Spiff [TV] called us. I think he reached out to Spitta first. Then Spiff, he reached out to me. I was still on another leg of my tour. So as soon as I got done with the last leg of my tour, soon as I got home, I went straight to the studio and knocked out the verse, sent it to Ross. He was like, ‘I love it. I’m flying you out next week. We doing the video.’ ” “Yeah, you know, I’m VP, A&R over at Maybach Music Group,” said Spiff, who has known Wiz for years. “Ross called me and said he’s putting together a remix and he wants Wiz and Curren$y. So I reached out, sent them the track the next day, and they did their thing. They came to ATL, Ross knocked his verse out the next day. I shot the video to Wiz and Curren$y via Twitter.” “It came together on some G sh–,” Wiz said. “Ross is hella talented. Everybody knows Spitta’s the best. It was only right we do that sh–.” Wiz said the Ross co-sign is his biggest yet. “It was a good look for me, because hasn’t been nobody really big, anybody who’s as influential in the game right now as Ross is saying, ‘I really f—s with Wiz,’ or, like, been seen on camera with me. That was a big power move for the both of us.” Aside from Ross, Wiz — who’s still trying to figure out when to release his Cabin Fever mixtape — and Curren$y still want to put out a mini-film based on their How Fly tape. “We always gonna be working. There’s never not gonna be something going on with me and Spitta,” Khalifa promised. “People can look for music. He just called me the other day. He’s about to drop his album, which is amazing. I’m working on my sh–. Then whenever we decide to get back together and do what we do, I think [the Taylor Gang and the Jets] gonna be right here waiting for us.” For other artists featured in Mixtape Daily, check out Mixtape Daily Headlines or follow the Mixtape Daily team on Twitter: @shaheemreid and @mongosladenyc . Ciara Says It ‘Feels Really Good’ To Get Andre 3000 On ‘Ride’ Remix

‘He is, from what I understand, very selective and … protective of his creativity,’ she tells MTV News. By Mawuse Ziegbe Ciara in “Ride” Photo: Jive Ciara has found a way to make her sexy single “Ride” even hotter: a collaboration with Andre 3000, one of the most sought-after MCs in the game. CiCi has recruited the Outkast rapper for a remix of “Ride,” which also features fellow ATLien Ludacris. But the diva didn’t land the collaboration alone; she brought in some music-industry bigwigs to help her out. “My team actually kind of helped put that together. My A&R [rep] Mark [Pitts] and [RCA/Jive Label Group Chairman and CEO] Barry Weiss, they kinda worked it out,” Ciara told MTV News about getting the MC, who is known for being selective when it comes to doling out features. “It was just a really cool thing for Dre to respond back and say he wanted to get on the record.” Ciara also revealed that the remix is not the first time she and the star tried to work together. “When I was doing [2006’s] Evolution, I wanted him to do something with me, and we never got to do anything,” Ciara said. “It’s just really great timing now that we get to do something.” Ciara followers are used to hearing the singer rock with stars who rep the A, like Luda and Young Jeezy, but CiCi said fans are getting something fresh with the 3000 collabo. “My fans are getting an unexpected treat with it. He is, from what I understand, very selective and … protective of his creativity, so it just feels really good to be able to rock with him,” Ciara said. There isn’t yet a release date for her next album, Basic Instinct, but the star said fans can look out for it later this year. “I’m really, like, 95 percent done right now with the record,” Ciara said. “You’re gonna be able to dance nonstop.” Are you excited to hear Ciara’s collabo with Andre 3000? Eminem Wanted Recovery To Be ‘Different,’ Alex Da Kid Recalls

‘He was looking for new things,’ the ‘Love the Way You Lie’ producer tells MTV News. By Jayson Rodriguez Eminem Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Despite countless attempts to get in touch with the Shady Records camp, Alex Da Kid kept striking out. The British producer contacted Eminem’s management and sent various beats, but none of them made the Detroit MC take notice. Then Alex produced B.o.B’s “Airplanes,” featuring Paramore’s Hayley Williams, and suddenly, Em was the one reaching out to him. The rapper loved “Airplanes” so much that he dropped a verse for the remix, “Airplanes, Part II.” It wasn’t until later, however, that the Shady One realized the producer of B.o.B’s hit was the same guy who was sending him musical samplings. According to Alex Da Kid, Em’s camp then reached out and requested “something different.” “A lot of time, generally in the industry, [artists] will say they want something different, but they don’t know what that is until they hear it,” said Alex, who produced Recovery ‘s “Love the Way You Lie,” featuring Rihanna . “So you kind of just go out there yourself. ‘Cause if you chase what they did before, it never really works out, and I wanna do different things anyway. That’s my thing. I took his past work into account, but he was looking for new things, and I did my thing, and luckily it worked out.” The producer, who also helmed Nicki Minaj’s first single, “Massive Attack,” sent over only one beat, and Eminem jumped at the record. The result was “Love the Way You Lie,” an ode of sorts to the rapper’s tumultuous relationship with ex-wife Kim. Rihanna recently spoke about the collaboration and explained how Eminem got her to appear on the track. “They reached out to us directly, and they just said, ‘We have this song, and we just think Rihanna would be perfect to sing it,’ ” Rihanna recalled in an interview with E!’s Ben Lyons. “And, of course, I was like, ‘OK, if I love it, I’ll definitely do it, because I love Eminem.’ And I love the song. “It’s really beautiful, and it really stands out,” Rihanna added. “It’s a really unique record. I’m really excited about it.” What do you think of “Love the Way You Lie”? Share your thoughts in the comments. Tom Cruise And Will.I.Am Explain How ‘Knight And Day’ Song Came To Be

‘When you can collaborate with a film you love, that’s a rare moment,’ Will tells MTV News of ‘Someday.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Photo: MTV News What happened when mega movie star Tom Cruise met mega music star Will.I.Am? The song “Someday,” which the Black Eyed Peas hitmaker composed for Cruise’s upcoming summer thriller, “Knight and Day.” MTV News recently caught up with Cruise and Will to talk about how their collaboration came to be. “First of all, I’m a fan of the Peas,” Cruise told MTV News. “We met at a charity event and got to talking: ‘We’ve got to find something to do together.’ … We were three-fourths of the way done [filming] ‘Knight and Day,’ and the Peas were playing in Miami, so we all went — Kate [wife Katie Holmes], Cameron [Diaz] and all of us went to go see them over Super Bowl weekend. As we were watching, it occurred to me that this is the perfect time, so I called up Will, and he doesn’t have any time, but I asked, ‘Are you interested [in doing a song for the film]?’ ” “I made time,” said Will, who was then shown portions of the film to get ideas for the track. “It was easy, because the film was so good and it inspired me to write the song. When you can contribute and participate and collaborate with a film you love, that’s a rare moment. That’s a godsend.” Cruise was impressed with Will’s ability to immediately tap into the theme of the film — and the fact that he composed on his phone. “He wrote the song on his BlackBerry,” Cruise marveled. “Right in the room.” “I don’t like to let that inspiration fly away, so I jot it down in my notes,” Will explained. “For ‘Someday,’ the lyric was ‘Someday/ I don’t want it to be one day, I want it right now.’ So when I left the editing [room], I wanted to remember the emotion I was supposed to put into the song.” “It was very cool,” Cruise said of Will’s process. “[And] totally organic to the film. I think it’s an incredible song.” In the film, which has been described as a “sexy action/comedy,” Cruise is Agent Miller, a covert operative sent on a mission from which he was not intended to return. Diaz is June Havens, a woman caught between Cruise’s agent and those he claims set him up. Through a series of double-crosses, narrow escapes and mistaken identities, they soon realize they can only count on each other. “Knight and Day” is directed by James Mangold (“Walk the Line,” “3:10 to Yuma”) and also stars Peter Sarsgaard, Viola Davis, Paul Dano, Maggie Grace and Marc Blucas. The film opens June 25. The Black Eyed Peas debuted “Someday” on Thursday at an afterparty that followed their concert at London’s O2 arena. At their Friday show in London, Cruise joined the group onstage and helped them perform their chart-topping song “I Gotta Feeling.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Knight and Day.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . Bret Michaels Tells Oprah He Rocked A Bandanna In His Hospital Bed

‘I said, ‘If I’m going out, I want to go out rockin’,’ ‘ he says on Wednesday’s ‘Oprah Winfrey Show.’ By Kara Warner Bret Michaels Photo: Jason LaVeris/ FilmMagic Fresh off being named one of the top two finalists on “The Celebrity Apprentice,” Poison frontman Bret Michaels is taking his story — specifically, his recent recovery from a life-threatening brain hemorrhage — to “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” During the sit-down — Michaels’ first on-camera appearance since being rushed to the hospital for treatment of a subarachnoid hemorrhage last month — Michaels said he knew something “was severely wrong” the moment it happened, People reports. “It just exploded instantly — ran from my temple down to the back of my skull,” the singer/reality star said on the show, which airs Wednesday. Michaels spent two weeks in intensive care, yet in true rocker fashion, he said he insisted on wearing his signature bandanna throughout the ordeal, even while confined to his hospital bed. “I said, ‘If I’m going out, I want to go out rockin’.’ ” Despite making rapid progress, Michaels is still in the midst of intense physical rehab. He will appear on Sunday’s finale of “The Celebrity Apprentice,” and win or lose, the rocker has plenty to keep him busy in the coming weeks. Drake Was ‘Fearless’ In Making ‘Find Your Love’ Video, Director Says

‘It’s kind of like the anti-love love story,’ Anthony Mandler says. By Jayson Rodriguez Drake Photo: Young Money Entertainment As both a newcomer and budding superstar, Drake draws a high level of scrutiny toward himself with each new song or video he releases. That trend continued Tuesday (May 11) with the premiere of his latest clip, “Find Your Love,” directed by Anthony Mandler. “It’s unbelievable the amount of attention that he garners,” Mandler told MTV News. “Since the video dropped, I think I’ve received 200 e-mails, Facebook questions, tweets. There’s a fascination with him and there’s certainly been a void in music that he’s come to fill.” According to Mandler, Drake’s allure lies in his ability to fit in across various groups. That idea was at the heart of the two clips he’s helmed for Drake, “Over” and “Find Your Love.” For their collaboration, he explained, the two played against the convention of who Drake may or may not be. “I think part of that is the kind of way he works across genres, the way he works across tonalities: is he black, is he white, he’s aligned with Wayne and the streets, but he’s a nice guy from Toronto,” Mandler said. “And that really was the theme with ‘Over.’ Especially with the album and the dualities in the music to come, in one song he rhymes and another song he sings, the artists he working with — he’s very hard to pin down. Part of the objective of making this video was to do that same twist again, to give you something unexpected, not only tonality with the song but with the video thematically. It’s kind of like the anti-love love story.” In the video, Drake is advised to get out of dodge when he tries to woo the love interest of a local gang lord. He ignores the words of the elder Jamaican sage and instead ventures into the ghettos of “Gully Side” to see his leading lady once more. As Drake and the man speak, words run across the screen warning of the perils of unknowingly taking things too far. “It’s really about crossing lines, what was said in the first scene,” Mandler said about Drake’s chase for love. “It’s about really understanding what’s right and what’s wrong and it’s really easy to lose that when you’re the center of attention.” The director said the idea of “Find Your Love” was to serve as a follow-up to “Over,” which he felt helped to clear the slate of everything pre- Thank Me Later, Drake’s forthcoming debut album. The idea behind “Find You Love” was to feature visuals to begin a new story in the young rapper’s life. Mandler applauded Drake’s efforts in making the clip happen. “He did it fearlessly,” Mandler beamed. “He did it without any sign of hesitation. That was incredible. He wanted to do something that went further with the song, that took the essence of the song but communicated it with imagery that made people think, rather than go up the middle and make an obvious R&B video. That’s completely not who Drake is.” What do you think the story behind Drake’s video? Let us know in the comments! Related Videos Storyllne Videos: Drake, Lady Gaga, M.I.A

Hayley Williams ‘Stoked’ To Shoot B.o.B’s ‘Airplanes’ Video

‘I think it’ll be a lot easier than a Paramore shoot but different and challenging in a new way,’ she tells MTV News. By James Montgomery Paramore’s Hayley Williams Photo: MTV News EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey — B.o.B ‘s “Nothin’ on You” currently sits atop the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart, and “Airplanes” — the second single from his The Adventures of Bobby Ray album — has just leapt into the top 10. The Atlanta MC, who already has a video for “Nothin’,” just shot a clip for his sophomore single, albeit one that’s missing a key component: Paramore ‘s Hayley Williams, who sings the track’s hook. But all that is going to change — and soon. When we spoke to Williams at this weekend’s Bamboozle music festival, the singer said she had already carved out time to shoot her portion of the “Airplanes” video, even if she didn’t quite know what she had signed up for. “Hopefully, right after this tour [ Paramore’s spring run with Relient-K and Fun], I’ll get to do my part of the B.o.B video,” she said. “I’m stoked, because I’ve seen a couple of treatments, and I don’t know exactly what I’m getting into yet, but I’m stoked about it, because I know it’ll be different, and I think it’ll be a lot easier than a Paramore shoot but different and challenging in a new way. It’ll definitely be shorter than a Paramore video; no 12-hour day on a chorus.” So what will Williams — who, to be honest, isn’t the first person you’d think would be popping up in a hip-hop video — be doing in “Airplanes”? Good question. Paramore bassist Jeremy Davis joked that “she’s gonna be on a boat with a swimsuit and a martini.” But Williams said she’ll be taking inspiration from some of the classics. Sort of. “Growing up, I saw a lot of hip-hop videos. I always liked TLC, and I always liked Aaliyah videos, I thought they were great. Missy Elliott videos were amazing. But obviously, I’m not going to get in front of a camera and pretend to be Aaliyah or Missy Elliott. I mean, I’m still Hayley from Paramore,” she laughed. “And that’s what I think is great about it; I’m bringing a different side to what B.o.B is doing … and I think what we do as a band actually fits in some weird way. I was looking at videos of him online, at his shows, and his crowd doesn’t look too far off from, like, the kind of people we play to; same age. It seems like a good match, and I’m excited to bring whatever I have to offer to the table for him.” And since she’ll be filming her portion of the video without B.o.B, it will keep one aspect of their collaboration intact: the fact that they’ve never actually met face-to-face. “We’ve never met in person,” Williams said. “We’ve talked on Twitter, and he’s really cool. We’ll never meet. We’re going to perform the song live via Skype.” What classic hip-hop videos would you like to see Hayley inspired by? Let us know in the comments! Related Artists Paramore B.o.B

Rick Ross Calls Teflon Don Jay-Z Collabo ‘An Atomic Bomb’

The Bawse denies rumors that the new Jay duet is ‘Maybach Music 3.’ By Shaheem Reid, with additional reporting by Kelly Marino Rick Ross Photo: MTV News Swizz Beatz-designed Christian Louboutin white shoes, a black motorcycle jacket specially made by Fubu and a white tank top you could find at any swap meet or flea market — Rick Ross had his swagger up on the set of his F. Gary Gray-directed video for “Super High.” The clip plays off the film “Easy Rider” and finds the Miami native scooping up sexy Stacey Dash like ice cream from Cold Stone. Ross woos her from her biker beau. During some downtime on the set, Ross explained that he’s trying to keep a lot of the ins and outs of his June 29 LP Teflon Don on lock until it drops, but the Bawse did disclose more about his collaboration with Jay-Z. “The majority of the details of the album I’ve been trying to keep under wraps so the fans can savor the music that much more,” Ross said. “I most definitely have confirmed Jay-Z being on the album. [The song] is like an atomic bomb. I’m just waiting to push the button. Shout-out to Roc Nation. Shout-out to Kanye West.” Ross said he and Jay recorded the song in Sin City as Jigga’s tour was coming to a close. “The funny thing is the way the record was done,” Ross said. “I followed him to a few Blueprint 3 Tour dates. I was chillin’ in the back, smoked out. As soon as he gets offstage, we was chillin’, vibing. His last date, which was in Vegas, he killed the show. We left the show, went to Tao for the afterparty. It was 30 bottles of Ace of Spades [champagne]. He left there, went and killed the craps table, the poker table. Then we got in the studio, and he laced me. It was the most phenomenal verse. “It’s not ‘Maybach Music 3,’ ” Ross revealed. “You could kill the rumors. This is something totally unexpected, and we talking that talk. I’m just excited, man. I’m expecting big things from this Teflon Don project.” Are you excited to hear new music from Rick Ross? Let us know in the comments below! Related Artists Rick Ross (Hip-Hop)

Drake Keeps Lil Wayne’s Name Alive At BMI Unsigned Urban Showcase

Birdman, Lloyd, Big Boi, Sean Garrett, DJ Drama and others take the stage at 13th annual Atlanta show. By Jayson Rodriguez Drake performs at BMI’s 13th Annual Unsigned Urban Showcase on Tuesday Photo: Jayson Rodriguez/ MTV News ATLANTA — Drake’s a man of his word. On his latest single, “Over,” the young spitter promises that “the Young Money ship is never sinking.” And with Lil Wayne away, the So Far Gone lyricist has continued to soldier on for the camp as evident on his Away From Home tour . On Tuesday night, Drake headlined BMI’s 13th Annual Unsigned Urban Showcase and gave a shout to his incarcerated YM boss, along with fellow jailed MCs Lil Boosie and Gucci Mane. “Free Tunechi and Boosie and free Gucci,” Drake rapped during a freestyle, before telling the crowd that “they make some great music.” The event, held at the Havana Club, was hosted by crooner Lloyd and featured opening act Travis Porter and OutKast’s Big Boi, who was honored with the Legends of ATL Award. Lloyd pulled double duty during the festivities, joining Drake and his band onstage for a series of R&B-tinged hits, like “Successful” and “A Night Off.” Drake then picked things up with rowdier fare like “Uptown” and “Over.” “I know way too many people here right now that I didn’t know last year, who the f— are y’all?” he sang on the hook. Those in attendance for the packed performance included Jermaine Dupri, songwriter Sean Garrett, producer Jazze Pha, Bobby V., and DJ Drama, who co-hosted the proceedings. Drake later pulled Birdman onstage with him for their collaboration “Money to Blow.” The Cash Money boss and Drizzy did their best to keep Wayne’s name active while the rapper completes his jail sentence. “When I say ‘free,’ you say ‘Weezy,’ ” Drake directed the crowd. “I’m gonna do everything I told him I would do, what I said in the song: keep us afloat till he gets back,” Drake told MTV News last month, shortly after Lil Wayne turned himself in to police. “You won’t even notice he’s gone. Promise.” Have you seen Drake on tour? Share your own concert reviews in the comments! Related Artists Drake Lil Wayne
