‘Glee’ Star Matthew Morrison Teams With JC Chasez For Solo Album

Actor gets help from former ‘NSYNC-er for ‘Dancing in the Rain.’ By Jocelyn Vena, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Matthew Morrison Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images It’s no Acafellas reunion, but “Glee” star Matthew Morrison says he hooked up with former boy bander JC Chasez for one of the tracks on his solo album, which he plans to release next year. “I wrote about half the album so far, but I’ve definitely co-wrote. I’ve definitely teamed up with some great producers, some great songwriters,” he teased MTV News at the “Glee” season two premiere party on Tuesday night in Los Angeles. “And yeah, I just did this great song last week with JC Chasez that was very, very cool. It turned out really well. He’s such a good songwriter.” While the details of the collaboration with the former ‘NSYNC member are scant, Morrison (who plays glee club coach Will Schuester on the show) did share the name of the track. “It’s called ‘Dancing in the Rain,’ not ‘Singing in the Rain,’ but ‘Dancing in the Rain.’ ” Morrison shared that he’s got some other collaborations on the album, but wouldn’t name names. “It’s very eclectic. I’m doing some great duets. I can’t release who they’re with yet, [but it’s] some people that you’ve probably heard of before, that you’ve definitely heard of before.” Fans of “Glee,” which returns to Fox on September 21, shouldn’t be surprised to learn what Morrison’s album will sound like. “It’s gonna be a little adult contemporary,” he said. “And there’s gonna be some pop songs that you can shake your money maker to in the club.” And while Morrison’s co-stars may be presenting an award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards, he’s got even bigger plans following his album’s release. “I’m hoping to perform at the VMAs next year!” The 27th annual MTV Video Music Awards will be broadcast live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on Sunday. The party starts with MTV News’ VMA Pre-Show at 8 p.m., followed by the main event at 9 p.m. ET. Fans can go to VMA.MTV.com (or text VMA to 97979 if they are Verizon subscribers) to vote for Best New Artist from now through Sunday. Kanye West, Justin Bieber Fans Split On ‘Runaway Love’ Remix

Remix featuring Raekwon has some pop and hip-hop purists on the fence. By Peter de Saint Phalle Justin Bieber Photo: George Pimentel/ WireImage Kanye West forced fanbases to collide on Monday, when he released his Justin Bieber “Runaway Love” remix , featuring Raekwon. What began as a mere social-networking brainstorm, not only utilizes the contemporary pop-chart topping talents of both West and the Beebs, but also features some of Raekwon’s vintage verses from “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing Ta F— Wit.” So how do loyal fans react when a teen pop sensation, a master producer-turned-rapper and a hip-hop legend combine forces? For the answers, we’ve looked across different blog sites and MTVNews.com to see fan comments and reactions to the new record. While the remix seemed acceptable to most listeners, others thought the blend of Bieber with the two MCs went together like oil and water. McShanful wrote on the hip-hop blog 2dopeboyz.com : “I thought this turned out pretty dope. But judging by the comments, this remix is a fail because Wu-Tang fans don’t want to hear JB on a classic beat. And JB fans don’t know or even care who Raekwon is, nor do they appreciate this classic beat. Nice try, ‘Ye.” Readers on both pop and hip-hop websites couldn’t see the benefit of including Bieber’s song in the collaboration, stating that the current prince of bubble gum discredited the rappers’ integrity. “I’m a hard-core fan of Kanye’s earlier music, but now I honestly think he will do anything if it gives him some fraction of publicity or money,” Leni wrote on JustJared.com . “Justin Bieber? I mean really?” Legacye wrote on on PerezHilton.com : “Oh … dear … lord. That was awful. Kanye’s part of the track sounded fine, but Justin’s music is just TOO tweeny-pop to fit in well with adult R and B. 1/5 from me.” And though Bieber’s collaboration with Ludacris on “Baby” has been a huge hit with his followers, some were less than pleased by this much less pop-flavored track. “OMG !! That is just horrible,” KT wrote on on Popeater.com . “Justin is the only good thing on the song, but you have to sit thru that no talent thug mumbling and talking his way thru the verses before Justin sprinkles his magic on the song. PLEASE Justin don’t team up with these no talent thug rappers because your management says so. All it shows is how much talent you have and how little talent the rappers have. No wonder they all want a piece of Justin’s genius. YAYYY JUSTIN!!” But there were also many positive comments about the new musical frontiers embarked upon by the unlikely trio. “The song actually wasn’t that bad, and as much as I hate to say it, Bieber sounded a little like Michael Jackson,” Ericarbo436 wrote on MTVNews.com. “A young youth, rockin’ the gold tooth!” B

T.I. Says He’s Basking In B.o.B’s Success

‘All the hard work is paying off,’ Tip says of his Grand Hustle artist and five-time VMA nominee. By Shaheem Reid T.I. and B.o.B Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images T.I. says his camp has worked diligently, so it’s OK to celebrate now. On Monday in New York, the King of the South reflected on the success of his Grand Hustle roster member B.o.B. We all know about steadfast and patient. And Bobby Ray had to practice that virtue the past couple of years while he waited for the release of his debut LP. Everything has paid off though, as B.o.B scored two #1 hit singles, critical acclaim for his body of work and most recently, five VMA nominations. “I feel like right now, all the hard work is paying off,” Tip said about Bob. “This is what everybody has been working for. This is [why] we go late nights in the studio, early mornings in the studio. This is the reason we miss days out of our children’s lives — for moments like these. For me not to sit here, reap the benefits and take the pleasure as well as taking the moment to bask in the glory of the success of what we have accomplished … It’s necessary, very necessary.” B.o.B’s “Nothin’ on You” is nominated for a VMA in the Best Pop Category while “Airplanes” is up for four Moonmen: Best Male Video, Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Collaboration and Video of the Year. “It’s very special to me,” the B.o.B said earlier this month. I think it’s a lot more special than the success of the singles, because this reflects the work I’ve put in over the years and the word of mouth I’ve helped create. It’s definitely amazing. I’m trying to find the words to explain it, but I can’t. It’s inexplicable. I’m a real simple man, so, you know, I accept every gift with generosity and gratitude.” What do you think about how Tip supports his Grand Hustle artist B.o.B? Tell us in the comments! Kanye West Confirms Bon Iver Cameo On Upcoming Album

Collaboration, called ‘Lost in the World,’ will appear on MC’s fifth full-length, due in November. By James Montgomery Kanye West Photo: MTV News Kanye West has always been a man of discerning taste — check the roughly 18,000 fashion-related posts on his blog, or his sampling of Daft Punk on his massive hit “Stronger” — but earlier this week, when rumors began circulating that he was working with austere indie auteur Bon Iver (aka Justin Vernon), they seemed, frankly, too discerning to be true. But on Friday (August 13), West confirmed that Vernon will appear on his upcoming new album, which is supposedly due November 16 . “I called [Vernon] and we ended up becoming, like, really good friends, playing basketball together every day, and going into the back studio and just recording his parts,” West told Rolling Stone . “He’s similar to me, like where he just does sh–; so people would be like ‘Oh sh–, how did you do that? How did that happen?’ ” West and Vernon collaborated on a song called “Lost in the World,” which features re-recorded vocals from the Bon Iver track “Woods.” West told Rolling Stone that he became a fan of the song, which features Vernon’s Auto-Tuned vocals, when Ed Banger Records honcho Pedro Winter played him the track and talked about his plans to sample it. West then asked Winter if he could use the song instead, and quickly flew Vernon out to Hawaii. The two quickly bonded (we like to imagine it was the basketball that did it), and West now counts Vernon as one of his friends. “He’s just a really cool guy to be around,” West said. On Friday, Vernon talked about the collaboration, and the pair’s budding friendship, in an interview with Pitchfork . “I think he’s very aware of the person he is, and I applaud him for that,” said Vernon. “It takes a lot of strength just to stay how he is amongst all the sh– that he’s subjected to. But I found him extremely like a bro. You could talk to him about whatever.” It’s been a busy 24 hours for West. On Thursday, he announced that he would appear on the Video Music Awards on September 12; Thursday night, he performed at a secret black-tie show in New York City . Lloyd Banks Recruits Tony Yayo, Lloyd For ‘Any Girl’ Video

The G-Unit MC says his latest video is inspired by the ’90s flick ‘How to Be a Player.’ By Mawuse Ziegbe, with reporting by Shaheem Reid Lloyd and Lloyd Banks Photo: G-Unit Lloyd Banks is taking it back to the jiggy era for his latest video. The G-Unit MC told MTV News that his newest clip, “Any Girl,” is inspired by the ’90s comedy “How to Be a Player.” In the movie, a slick womanizer — played by former MTV VJ Bill Bellamy — juggles his many conquests. “Any Girl” shows Banks trying not to get caught in his web of women. “I’m running through my day-to-day going to see a few of my girls. I got a white girl, I got [a] Spanish girl, a black girl and I’m going to basically lie to them and tell them how much I love them and how much I want to see them,” Banks explained. However, after spending time maneuvering through his ladies, the MC has to eventually face the music. “The girl who’s playing my sister, she’s actually setting me up and she has these same girls coming to see me at the party.” Fellow G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo makes a cameo in the video. He said that even though the visuals are inspired by a film, Banks has plenty of personal experience to pull from. “Banks is … a player for real,” said Yayo. “It’s really his real life story.” Banks isn’t the only ladies man in the video; singer Lloyd also pops up in the clip. The MC broke down how the collaboration came together and said Lloyd wasted no time putting his soulful touch on the track. “He … flew into New York [and] knocked out the record in like 15, 20 minutes,” Banks revealed. The G-Unit rapper said the pair shared a similar hunger to make a memorable collabo. “His work ethic is incredible. He was actually independent at the time so … it was no restraints. It was like, ‘Let’s go!’ ” Lloyd’s studio grind may have impressed musical peers such as Banks, but the crooner maintained that he puts in the work for the fans. “It’s about making the best music for people to listen to,” the singer said. “It’s about entertaining the consumers and ultimately, for me, it’s about connecting.” What are you expecting from the new Lloyd Banks video? Allison Iraheta Gushes About ‘Don’t Waste The Pretty’ Co-Star Orianthi

‘We want to write together,’ she says of her tourmate on Adam Lambert’s Glam Nation jaunt. By Jim Cantiello Orianthi and Allison Iraheta Photo: Donald Kravitz/ Getty Images If you saw Allison Iraheta and Orianthi recently on “So You Think You Can Dance” and thought, “Dang, they have some killer chemistry,” you’re not alone. The two have been rocking together on an almost nightly basis, thanks to Adam Lambert’s Glam Nation Tour , on which they each perform opening sets and collaborate on Iraheta’s single “Don’t Waste the Pretty.” “When [Orianthi] comes out [onstage], I get all crazy,” Iraheta told MTV News when Glam Nation hit New York this summer. “I’m all, ‘Man, I gotta start getting all manly and stuff.’ ‘Cause when she plays — her face, man. She’s intense.” Allison tapped the Australian guitar wiz to give “Pretty” a dirtier rock edge versus the pop recording initially released on her debut album, Just Like You. “She brings something so different to the song. It’s so crazy,” Iraheta beamed. Allison and Orianthi (Alli-anthi?) have so much fun rocking out, the two plan to join forces more often. “We want to write together,” Iraheta said. “I even told her: ‘Let’s bring the Heart [sound] back!’ ” The redheaded rocker (who gained millions of fans when she debuted on the eighth season of “American Idol” with a Heart song, appropriately enough) even went so far as to say she’d consider creating a band with Orianthi down the road. OK, so a permanent Alli-anthi rock band probably won’t happen. Instead, fans should just keep “Don’t Waste the Pretty” on repeat and hope that their busy schedules allow for a killer music video. When we spoke with Allison in June, she hinted that she’d have time to film a proper video once her Glam Nation commitment ended. But that was before Iraheta’s stint on Lambert’s tour was extended through October, thanks to popular demand from fans. Would you like to see Allison and Orianthi join forces on the regular?
