Sounds About White! Student Downplays Black Classmate At Barnard College Being Racially Profiled

See the original post:

E arlier in the month, a video went viral of Alexander McNab being harassed by six campus cops at Barnard College , an all-women’s school affiliated with Columbia University in New York City. But while the video caused outrage from staff and faculty, one student went out of her way to claim that McNab appearing to be racially profiled had nothing to do with his brown skin. SEE ALSO: Students Suspended For Brawl While Cop In Video Who Assaulted One Of Them Goes Unpunished The student, who described herself as a “(very) light-skinned Jewish woman” named Morgan Raum, defended campus security in a piece she recently authored for the Columbia Beacon, an alternative campus publication. “I would much prefer Barnard Public Safety officers prioritize safety rather than political correctness,” Raum wrote . “The fact of the matter is an adult male entered a closed women’s college campus after 11 p.m. and repeatedly refused to show his identification to Public Safety officers, despite admitting that he knew about the rule. To be honest, I’m upset he was allowed to get as far as Milstein before the officers took action.” Raum went on to say McNab was stopped simply because of his gender, an excuse that rings hollow since there are always male students from Columbia on Barnard’s campus. “For context: Columbia students have access to Barnard libraries. After 11 p.m., students are supposed to show their IDs to public safety before entering campus. But this rule is loosely enforced and hardly followed. I have always just nodded to the officer. Nothing like this,” Andrew Wang , who identified himself as a Columbia student, wrote in his tweet below that includes a video of the incident. This happened yesterday at Barnard College. A black Columbia University student was entering the library when he was racially profiled by public safety officers. They took his ID. They pinned him down. : Caroline Cutlip pic.twitter.com/7CeUDQSuIH — Andrew Wang (@andrwwang) April 12, 2019 “I can’t help but feel that while Alexander McNab may have been ‘profiled,’ in all likelihood it was due to his being a male student on a women’s college campus after 11PM who repeatedly refused to show his identification,” she wrote. In case you missed it, McNab refused to show his ID to security officers who the same demands for identification from students of color. Officers eventually physically assaulted McNab inside a campus building even after he handed them his identification, another fact the “very light-skinned” Raum failed to acknowledge. “I didn’t violate anybody. Get your hands off of me,” McNab says to the security officers. After looking at McNab’s ID card, one of the officers responded, “Let’s walk outside.” McNab said he feared going outside with the officers and wanted to stay inside the building where there were witnesses. Instead of examining his ID and allowing him to go, the officers confiscated McNab’s card, saying they needed to verify that he was an “active” Columbia student. As of Tuesday morning, the security officers were reportedly still on leave and Barnard was hiring an independent investigator. Lori Loughlin to Daughter: HA! I Totally Paid for Your Education!

Lori Loughlin has been caught on camera admitting to the crime for which she just got arrested. Sort of, that is. In a newly-surfaced video from 2017, the controversial actress and her teenager daughter, Olivia Jade, are recording footage for the latter's YouTube channel. In a video titled “TEACHING MY MOM SLANG TERMS OF 2017,” Olivia, who was 17 at the time, tell the Full House star of the phrase, “England is my city,” something made famous when fellow YouTuber Nick Crompton sang these words in Jake Paul‘s “It’s Everyday Bro.”) “England is NOT a city,” Loughlin tells her ignorant child in response, to which Olivia replies: “I know, that’s why it’s so, so, so iconic on YouTube! … Well, it’s not iconic at all, it’s just really dumb.” This whole conversation is really dumb, but it's also about to become very telling. Loughlin, who was arrested this week for her role in a nationwide college bribery scandal , then says: “If you would’ve said, ‘England is my city,’ I would say, ‘Why did I pay all this money for your education?'” At this joke, he mother-daughter duo laugh and laugh and then laugh some more. But few people are guffawing over pretty much this exact same thing right now. Loughlin and her husband were each indicted by the FBI a few days ago because they allegedly paid a $500,000 bribe to pretend Olivia and her sister were high school crew team members. They were subsequently admitted to the University of Southern California because an employee there listed them as potential athletic recruits, thereby lowering their admissions standards. Loughlin and actress Felicity Huffman were the two best-known individuals involved in an arrested that netted dozens of wealthy parents, all of whom are accused of lying, cheating and bribing their kids' way into college. Olivia Jade has since left USC, at which she barely studied, while  Loughlin has since lost multiple jobs , including her role as leading lady on Hallmark’s When Calls the Heart. “We are saddened by the recent news surrounding the college admissions allegations,” Crown Media Family Networks said in a statement, adding: “We are no longer working with Lori Loughlin and have stopped development of all productions that air on the Crown Media Family Network channels involving Lori Loughlin including Garage Sale Mysteries, an independent third party production.” Olivia, for her part, lost her brand deal with Sephora. “After careful review of recent developments, we have made the decision to end the Sephora Collection partnership with Olivia Jade, effective immediately,” a spokesperson for the beauty company has said. Watch Loughlin make her so-called joke in this video now.

Olivia Jade Giannulli Loses Sephora Deal as Fallout Begins From College Admissions Scandal

As you’ve no doubt heard by now, a wide-randing college admissions bribery scandal led to dozens of high-profile indictments this week. Among the wealthy parents ensnared by Operation Varsity Blues were actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin. Loughlin and her husband — clothing designer Mossimo Giannulli — have been at the center of much of the criticism surrounding the scandal. The couple allegedly shelled out $500,000 in bribes to ensure that their two daughters would be admitted to USC. The scheme required that Loughlin help her daughters to pose as members of their school’s crew team in order to make them more attractive prospects to the USC admissions board. All this despite the fact that one of the girls, Olivia Jade Giannulli, admittedly had no interest in attending classes at the school. Olivia is a social media influencer and aspiring actress with 1.4 million Instagram followers. She once received criticism for a video in which she admitted that she planned to attend college solely for “the game days and partying,” admitting that she “doesn’t really care about school.” Olivia Jade: Sorry for Saying College is Dumb! The backlash led Olivia to record a half-hearted apology clip (above), but her comments have resurfaced in a damaging way in the wake of the admissions scandal. Though she was released on $1 million bail after being taken into custody earlier this week, it’s still possible that Loughlin will serve prison time for her role in the conspiracy. But thus far, it’s mostly Olivia who’s feeling the fallout. In December of 2018, Giannulli scored the biggest payday of her young career when she inked a promotional and collaborative deal with cosmetics giant Sephora. On Thursday, the company issued a statement revealing that it had cut ties with Giannulli: “After careful review of recent developments, we have made the decision to end the Sephora Collection partnership with Olivia Jade, effective immediately,” the statement reads. As of this afternoon, the $28, six-color Olivia Jade x Sephora Collection Bronze & Illuminate Palette is no longer available on the company’s website. It’s no doubt a crushing blow for the 19-year-old, but it’s important to remember she’ll probably go her entire life without suffering any lasting consequences for anything she does. As we all know, money may insulate these kids from reality, but counter-intuitively, it also means literally nothing to them. For further examples, see the kid who defended his parents’ role in the scandal while smoking a blunt and plugging his mixtape, or … well, you can look at just about any random day from these kids’ lives to know that they’ll never want for anything, with or without college.

Amid The College Admission Scandal, Let’s Reflect On The Black Teen Accused Of Cheating On Her SATs

More here:

T he news that an FBI investigation revealed dozens of wealthy white people paid big money to rig admissions procedures for their privileged kids to be accepted into top colleges rocked the entire country. One of the many stunts pulled by the accused, including actresses Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin , was having their kids’ SAT answers changed. The aspect of the college admissions cheating scandal was quite ironic considering earlier this year a Black high school student was interrogated and shamed for improving her SAT score. See Also: Complete Timeline Of Jussie Smollett Investigation Let us remind you. Florida teen Kamilah Campbell was told her test scores were invalid after she improved her original score of 900. Campbell, alongside her lawyer, civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump , said she felt she was being accused of cheating by the Educational Testing Service (ETS), which oversees the SAT. “I did not cheat,” Campbell said defiantly during a press conference in Miami in January. “I studied, and I focused to achieve my dream. I worked so hard and did everything I could do.” Crump said in a statement, “ETS violated Kamilah’s constitutional right to be considered innocent until proven guilty and denied Kamilah due process.” “The family is demanding ETS release her test scores within the next two weeks so that colleges and scholarship committees can appropriately evaluate her applications,” the statement continued. “If not, Crump said the family will move forward with exploring every legal remedy available to give Kamilah the justice she deserves, including but not limited to pursuing litigation on the basis of a violation of her civil rights.” Campbell said an ETS employee told her that she scored 1230 on her second SAT testing, an improvement of better than 300 points. She got a tutor, “took online classes and she got a copy of a The Princeton Review prep book,” according to a CNN report . While neither Campbell nor Crump made any reference to race, it was impossible to ignore her being a Black woman, especially now with the current college admissions scandal. There is a long-lingering SAT achievement gap between Blacks and other races. “These gaps have a significant impact on life chances, and therefore on the transmission of inequality across generations,” according to research conducted by the Brookings Institution , a nonprofit public policy organization. Campbell was forced to retake the test and, of course, the College Board in Florida will not release her test scores. It is despicable that rich white people would use their privilege because they didn’t want their kids to work too hard. Then again, that has always been the American way. Amid The College Admission Scandal, Let’s Reflect On The Black Teen Accused Of Cheating On Her SATs

Olivia Jade, Lori Loughlin’s Entitled Daughter, Once Crapped All Over College

According to a new federal indictment, Olivia Jade Giannulli is only a student at the Universoty of Southern California because her famous mother was at the center of a massive college bribery scandal. That’s a sentence we didn’t expect to write when we woke up today. Alas, here we are. In an explosive story that is blowing up the Internet, Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman have been arrested for their alleged role in a giant, multi-million dollar blackmail scheme. The actresses have been charged with conspiracy to commit mail fraud and honest services mail fraud. These charges stem from allegations that Loughlin and Hoffman paid money to a man in California… who then used this money to bribe various SAT and ACT proctors and/or to bribe college coaches. In what manner? Well… According to ABC News, Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannulli “agreed to pay bribes totaling $500,000 in exchange for having their two daughters designated as recruits to the USC crew team — despite the fact that they did not participate in crew — thereby facilitating their admission to USC.” Details of The Fuller House star’s role include having daughter Olivia actually pose on a rowing machine in order to make it look like she was a crew member in high school. Even though she was not. This photo (and some of the money Loughlin coughed up) were then sent to a crew coach at USC, who lied to the college, labeled Olivia as a crew recruit and helped her get into the prestigious university. Olivia, by all accounts, was aware of the scam at the time. An aspiring actress, the 19-year old has been featured alongside her mother in numerous Hallmark Christmas movies — and she also has nearly two million subscribers on YouTube. The entire scandal is a pretty despicable example of how rich people get their way in America… … but it’s made even worse by how Olivia Jade has apparently responded to the allegedly illegal way in which she was granted entry into USC. While answering fan questions last year, Olivia said she wasn’t sure how she planned to balance her social media career while taking classes as a freshman at this university. “I don’t know how much of school I’m gonna attend but I’m gonna go in and talk to my deans and everyone, and hope that I can try and balance it all,” she told followers, explaining: “But I do want the experience of like game days, partying…I don’t really care about school, as you guys all know.” So, just to be clear, Loughlin paid $500,000 in bribery money so that her daughter could party a lot and try really hard to balance her life as a SOCIAL MEDIA PERSONALITY with her role as a student of higher education. Olivia Jade: Sorry for Saying College is Dumb! Olivia faced backlash at the time she said this, long before the details of her scam became known to the public. “I honestly found it very disappointing when you said you care more about parties and tailgates rather than your education. If you hate school so much why go to college?” one commenter said. “And it’s honestly insulting when tons of people can’t even afford to go to college but want to.” Olivia replied to this criticism with the video above, in which she said: “I said something super ignorant and stupid, basically. And it totally came across that I’m ungrateful for college — I’m going to a really nice school. And it just kind of made it seem like I don’t care, I just want to brush it off. “I’m just gonna be successful at YouTube and not have to worry about school. I’m really disappointed in myself.” “I didn’t mean it that way,” she added. “I’m sorry for anyone I offended by saying that. I know it’s a privilege and a blessing and I’m really grateful.” Simply put…we don’t believe her. USC’s President Wanda M. Austin, meanwhile, sent an email to students after the news broke on Tuesday. “I want to inform you of an ongoing wide-ranging criminal investigation involving universities nationwide, including USC.  “The government has made a public announcement and disseminated the charging documents,” the email reads. “The federal government has alleged that USC is a victim in a scheme perpetrated against the university by a long-time Athletics Department employee, one current coach and three former coaching staff, who were allegedly involved in a college admissions scheme and have been charged by the government on multiple charges.”

Felicity Huffman & Lori Loughlin Indicted In College Admissions Bribery Scandal

Source: FayesVision/WENN.com / WENN / WENN Felicity Huffman & Lori Loughlin Indicted In College Admissions Bribery Scandal Now, THIS is qWHITE the story… Two Hollywood actresses have been indicted in an elaborate college admissions bribery scandal. Dozens of people including Felicity Huffman and Lori Loughlin were indicted today by federal prosecutors in connection with a scheme aimed at getting students into elite colleges. The L.A. Times reports that the scheme centered around the owner of a for-profit Newport Beach college admissions company that wealthy parents paid to help their children cheat on college entrance exams and falsify athletic records of students to enable them to secure admission to schools including UCLA, USC, Stanford, Yale, and Georgetown, according to court records. The for-profit owner is William Rick Singer of the Edge College & Career Network who’s now charged with money laundering, obstruction of justice, racketeering and conspiracy to defraud the United States. He pleaded guilty in Boston this afternoon and is facing 65 years in prison. “All of these things, and many more things, I did,” Singer said. “I created a side door that would guarantee families would get in.” Lori Loughlin and her husband allegedly “agreed to pay bribes totaling $500,000 in exchange for having their two daughters designated as recruits to the USC crew team” in order to facilitate admission to the university, adds The Times. Mind you Loughlin’s daughters did NOT play crew and allegedly fake photos of the girls on row machines were used as part of the scheme. So far Loughlin has not been arrested but her reps say she’s on a flight to Los Angeles and expected to surrender. Lori’s daughter Olivia is currently being flooded with criticism on this post about her first few weeks in college. View this post on Instagram Officially a college student! Macy, prosecutors allege that they made a charitable contribution of $15,000 to participate in a college entrance exam cheating scheme on behalf of their eldest daughter. Their daughter was reportedly given twice the amount of time to take the SAT as other students and the paid proctor agreed to secretly correct her answers afterward. A sealed indictment claims that the girl received a score of 1420 on her SAT, an improvement of 400 points from her PSAT. Huffman is currently in police custody. Padma Lakshmi …. Hey my MAGA people. How do you feel about this woman, walking into your country on the back of an old timer billionaire, who she dooped into thinking he knocked up, when really she was knocked by another billionaire….using her Indian intelligence and looks to her advantage…like some kind of Russian Spy…seducing….out there in a cowboy hat, acting like she’s white… You know, it’s against the rules to be in Black Face…to wave a confederate flag…to have your idols and Civil War Hero statues proudly standing in your parks despite their efforts and patriotism…. It is against the rules for the INDIAN store clerk on The Simpson’s to have an Indian accent because he’s not played by an Indian (dot not feather)… It is against the rules for a straight guy to play a queer, a Mexican to play a Cuban, and all the other rules out there…that are making you lose your white American pride. We can’t go to prom in Chinese traditional dresses unless we are Chinese. We can’t serve Indian food in College Cafeterias… But men are cutting their dicks off and calling themselves woman… And gold digging sugar babies…evil brown woman are dressing up like cowboys and it’s ok…. Sure, you can argue that there were black Cowboys and other people of color cowboys…the wild west was filled with all kinds of people dressed like this…so it’s not really appropriating…but that’s what the WHITE liberals want you to think… When you know the truth…this is like you putting a BINDI dot on your forehead after taking a bath in Curry powder….
