So apparently British GQ has released or is releasing their comedy special and decided to have a whole bunch of comedians introduce it with a quick little video. Nothing too strange about that I guess. They also thought they’d splice in a clip of hottie Olivia Wilde jiggling her boobs just for good measure. I don’t understand it, I write about boobs and boners all day so I know nothing about comedy, but I like it. Check out the video and let me know what you think.
Critics are a bit grossed out by the raunchy comedy but still charmed by leading man Paul Rudd. By Kara Warner Paul Rud and Jennifer Aniston in “Wanderlust” Photo: Universal Fans of the big-screen pairing of Jennifer Aniston and Paul Rudd have likely been waiting for the two likable actors to reunite since their 1998 romantic dramedy “The Object of My Affection.” At long last, that wait is over with the release of “Wanderlust,” a comedy in which Aniston and Rudd play a stressed-out Manhattan couple who end up traveling through a hippie-ish community that teaches them a lesson or two about what’s really important in life. The critical response is at 55 percent “Fresh” over at Rotten Tomatoes , with some folks enjoying the awkward humor and unflappable charm of Paul Rudd and others having issues with Rudd and Aniston’s schtick. Read on as we frolic through the “Wanderlust” reviews! The Irresistible Charm of Paul Rudd “Paul Rudd is the best friend a movie comedy can have. He always delivers the goods and something extra, usually something wild and weirdly wonderful. In ‘Wanderlust,’ Rudd lets the funny fly. Like the movie he’s in, Rudd only seems normal. Inside, it’s all deliriously unhinged. Rudd plays George, an uptight Wall Street suit squeezed into a Manhattan micro-loft with his documentarian wife Linda (Jennifer Aniston) until the recession shuts them both down. Off they go to Georgia where his idiot brother (Ken Marino, the film’s co-writer) offers him a job in his porta-potty business. Unacceptable. So George and Linda take shelter in Elysium, a commune where craziness reigns along with pot, acid, dodgy hygiene and free love. When the luscious Eva (Malin Akerman) offers to get it on with him, George unravels his straight laces. Here comes the Rudd time capsule moment: In a mirror, George rehearses talking dirty to Eva, taking the word ‘dick’ and stretching it into syllables of near-pornographic hilarity. It helps that Rudd is once again working with director and co-writer David Wain, as he did in ‘Role Models’ and the immortal 2001 indie ‘Wet Hot American Summer.’ ” — Peter Travers, Rolling Stone The Comedy and Quirk Factors “In sophisticated comedy, what’s funny is the tension between proper manners and the nasty or sexy subtext. Whereas in low comedy, there are no manners, and the nasty or sexy subtext is right there on the surface. And then there’s ‘Wanderlust,’ in which the subtext is blasted through megaphones — the characters say so insanely much you want to scream. The satire is as broad as a battleship and equally bombarding. But it takes guts to do a comedy this big without gross-out slapstick, and the writers and the actors are all in. … You say it sounds like a bunch of stereotypes — and 40-year-old stereotypes? The defense concedes the point. It’s not fresh terrain. But this tribe of hippies is also a tribe of marvelously inventive comic actors doing a fair amount of inspired improvisation and grooving on the mindset.” — David Edelstein, NPR The Final Word, Pro-Con-Pro Style “The role of an uptight fish out of water is what Rudd was born for, and he plays George with the congeniality and improvisatorial brio for which he’s become deservedly famous. He and Theroux, who’s barely recognizable beneath a thatch of long hair and a beard, deliver the most well-earned laughs in ‘Wanderlust,’ which otherwise traffics in tired jokes about menstrual cycles, placenta soup and rubbing your fingers together instead of clapping. … Between this film and last summer’s ‘Horrible Bosses,’ Aniston’s coyness — starring in explicit movies without having to be explicit herself — seems to be becoming her stock in trade. It’s not a particularly commendable one, and ‘Wanderlust’ does little to disprove that she’s still a star more suited to TV rather than the big screen. As for Rudd, he still has charm to burn, even playing a type he’s long since outgrown. Like George observing the overgrown children of Elysium, it might be time for Rudd to move on.” — Ann Hornaday, The Washington Post “The production has all the style and subtlety — and, admittedly, the exuberance — of TV sketch material. A psychedelic sequence makes Madonna’s halftime show look like high art. Both the straight and hippie realms are populated by parallel groups of fevered eccentrics; the cast includes Mr. Marino, Justin Theroux, Malin Akerman, Joe Lo Truglio, Kathryn Hahn, Kerri Kenney, Lauren Ambrose and Linda Lavin. Alan Alda is the commune’s venerable founder, Carvin, whose brain long ago failed the acid test. ‘Wanderlust’ is nothing if not strenuous, strident and gross, and most of it fails the comedy test.” — Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal “There are so many things to feel guilty about liking in the pure and prurient guilty pleasure that is ‘Wanderlust.’ Starring Paul Rudd and Jennifer Aniston, this is a comedy of no manners about finding your bliss and escaping the modern grind. The laughter is served up naughty and nice, and frequently au naturel, earning it an R rating when perhaps RR (really raunchy) would have been more appropriate. Appropriateness, however, has pretty much been jettisoned by the filmmakers, who have opted instead for the good-fun-found-in-bad-taste tradition of ‘The Hangover.’ Directed by David Wain and co-written with his frequent comic collaborator, Ken Marino, the film is, overall, a very wobbly affair starting with all the dangling naked body parts that greet George (Rudd) and Linda (Aniston) when the couple pulls into a free-love commune they mistake for a B&B.” — Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times Check out everything we’ve got on “Wanderlust.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com . We’ve been discussing that shady French Elle and their comments about black folks all week , and now they have finally decided to respond: French fashion magazine Elle has denied charges of racism after unleashing a storm by suggesting that a black American elite, inspired by the Obama couple, was finally embracing “white” fashion. The January 13 blog post entitled “Black fashion power” has drawn volleys of angry protest on both side of the Atlantic, with the New York Daily News tabloid saying it managed to “insult black Americans as a whole”. In the piece, which has since been removed from Elle’s website, journalist Nathalie Dolivo cited singers Erykah Badu or Rihanna and the actress Zoe Saldana, as black Americans who understood “the importance of style”. “In an America governed for the first time by a black American president, chic has become a plausible option for a community up until then bound by its streetwear codes,” she wrote. “In 2012, the ‘black-geoisie’ has integrated all the white codes … but with a twist, bourgeois with an ethnic reference that recalls their roots,” she argued. The US website Huffington Post slammed the piece last week, saying a clumsy attempt to praise black style had “unravelled into a string of controversial, stereotypical and insulting statements”. “So, being chic and sophisticated beyond jeans and a T-shirt has only been an option for black people since 2008 when Michelle Obama became First Lady?” it asked. French star journalist Audrey Pulvar, one of the rare black faces in France’s media landscape, also called the article “racist and imbecilic”. In a statement issued on Wednesday night, the body representing journalists at the style weekly defended their title. “No Elle is not racist,” the Societe Des Journalistes said in a statement, insisting the magazine had “never stopped campaigning for the dignity of all women for more than 60 years”. Elle editor Valerie Toranian also published an online apology, saying the weekly was “deeply sorry” to have caused offence, and has invited an anti-racism body to take part in a debate about the article. In a new post on Elle’s site, Dolivo also apologises for the article, saying it was an attempt to take a “positive” look at US society and style. SMH. We call bullsh*t on this one. Dayyuuummmmmm: Sources are saying that “X-Factor” creator Simon Cowell has offered Beyonce $500 MILLION to be a judge on the hit TV series. Originally, reports were saying that Simon Cowell was interested in hiring Mariah Carey as the judge, but he has now moved on to Beyonce to ensure the shows success. “He wants a big name female star on the panel. Mariah [Carey] is good, but she’s not that hot today. He wants Beyonce because that would immediately give him the bounce needed to beat American Idol.” And Simon is willing to PAY to land Beyonce. The deal he is reportedly ready to offer Beyonce is a five-season deal worth $100M per year. This apparently is just a rumor, but damn if it is true…BeyBey better not turn this isht down. $500 MILLI though??? Source More On Bossip! Both Tina Fey and Sofia Vergara came up short last night in the Best Actress in a Comedy category, losing to Betty White (see our full list of 2012 SAG Awards winners ). Consider this their chance at redemption. The 30 Rock star is best known for being one of the funniest people on earth, but she’s no style slouch, either. Sofia Vergara? She wows us with her dresses almost as much as she causes us to double over with her Modern Family quotes . Vote for your favorite style star in THG’s Fashion Face-Off below!
After witnessing the success of Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “Watch The Throne” tour, Chris Rock has been inspired! In a recent interview, Chris Rock announced that he’d like to put together a tour of his own…with DAVE CHAPPELLE! (Wouldn’t that be NUTS?) Granted, rumors of this tour have been swirling since last Fall. BUT, this is the first time that Chris Rock has publicly spoken about it. Check out more of what he had to say HERE .
Comedy Central stars share their silly slacker laughs with MTV News. By Rya Backer Cast of “Workaholics” Photo: MTV News There’s no normal way go on a date with four men simultaneously. That goes without saying. So, imagine going out with four guys who make a living rapping about what it’s like to be a wizard (while in equally mystical costumes, natch) and have popularized an observational comedy game called “poop dollar.” This is how I spent one recent afternoon at the Greenwich Village Country Club playing mini-golf with the cast of “Workaholics” for the most-recent edition of First Date. On the show, three men (Anders Holm, Blake Anderson and Adam DeVine, playing Anders Holmvik, Blake Henderson and Adam DeMamp , respectively) spend their days at a middle-management gig at a telemarketing company. During their downtime, they get really wasted and go on incredible, hilarious adventures, sometimes with their friend, Karl Hevacheck (played by … wait for it … Kyle Newacheck), where things get weird — but rest assured, everything just happens to be OK in the end. The way they were discovered almost echoes the optimistic slacker vibe the show lends: “I met Kyle and Blake at community college. Improv class, day one … met ‘Ders at the Second City,” DeVine explained about the origins of their very real-life friendship. “And then we started making Internet comedy videos, and Comedy Central was like, ‘We like how you guys aren’t popular, but you have a voice, have a take,’ and gave us a show.” The franchise has long been centered on new music acts, but since the show’s premiere, a small sect of us at MTV News have taken it upon ourselves to spread its decidedly sophomoric gospel. The “Workaholics” brand of humor extends far beyond their show, as they attempted to out-funny each other’s answers to the Date questions. In regard to what a typical first date for them is like, DeVine bluntly replied, “For me, personally, just hard-core sex from the get-go … smashin’, beatin’-it-up sex.” His co-star Anderson (who recently got into a pretty unfunny fall) retorted with a first-date plan that’s too hot to write here — just know that his statement wrapped with, “I’m constantly stimulated.” And for those two-odd hours we shared on the course, it’s safe to say we all were. PARK CITY, Utah—The publicist for comedian and cast member of NBC’s “30 Rock,” Tracy Morgan, says the actor suffered from a combination of exhaustion and altitude when he collapsed at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. Publicist Lewis Kay says Morgan is grateful to the medical center staff for their care Sunday in Park City, where the elevation is 7,000 feet. Morgan was escorted from the Creative Coalition Spotlight Awards ceremony Sunday night at the festival. Kay says Morgan is seeking medical attention and is with his fiancee. He says hospital officials report no drugs or alcohol were found in Morgan’s system. Morgan is attending Sundance in connection with the comedy film “Predisposed,” one of the 100 films at the festival, in which he plays a drug dealer named Sprinkles.
