‘Breaking Dawn’ Star Talks Bella’s Bridal Gown, Vampire Makeover

Billy Burke, a.k.a. Dad Charlie Swan, tells MTV News he’s mostly ‘oblivious to everything that’s going on with vampires’ on set. By Kara Warner Billy Burke Photo: MTV News It’s been awhile now since we’ve had any updates from the castmembers of the highly anticipated “Breaking Dawn” two-part finale. Thus far this year, there have been steamy bedroom photos , talk of Kristen Stewart’s impressive transformation into a vampire and Peter Facinelli’s thoughts on an epic vampire-on-vampire battle scene at the end of Part 2. When MTV News caught up with “Breaking Dawn” supporting player Billy Burke recently, he reluctantly gave us the vaguest of answers when we asked about his favorite filming moment so far. “We are having a lot of fun,” Burke said while doing press for his upcoming violent thriller “Drive Angry.” “We’re in the midst of that now.” Burke, who plays the (mostly) blissfully ignorant father Charlie to Kristen Stewart’s Bella, said his character is up to the same old tricks in the final two “Twilight” films. “I go back in about a week to continue my job in that movie,” he said. “Which is being oblivious to everything that’s going on with vampires and werewolves.” Those familiar with the vampire films will agree that this is a fair and accurate assessment of his character’s story line. Still, we assumed that surely Burke has been privy to a few fun details, so we asked whether his character, Charlie Swan, finds out that his daughter has become a vampire in “Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” “In the first part? No,” Burke revealed. “That’s no secret, [for] those who have read the books,” he explained. What about Bella’s wedding dress? Has he seen that yet? “No,” Burke said with finality, declining to divulge any more “Dawn” details. Check out everything we’ve got on “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com . ‘American Idol’ Says Hello To Some Of Top 24, Goodbye to Chris Medina, Others

Weepy Ashley Sullivan and White House intern Molly DeWolf Swensen were also sent packing. By Eric Ditzian Contestants performs Beatles songs on “American Idol” on Wednesday Photo: FOX On Wednesday, “American Idol” promised all night long to reveal its top 24 contestants, but we ultimately only found out the identity of five semi-finalists. On a Beatles-themed evening, we said hello to the likes of karaoke host (and onetime tormenter of fellow singer Jacee Badeaux) Clint Jun Gamboa, little featured but very soulful singer/songwriter Paul McDonald, and sweet-voiced Naima Adedapo, who left behind a life of scrubbing toilets at a Milwaukee concert venue for life crooning in Idol Land. Yet we also said goodbye to a bunch of reality show hopefuls we’d come to know well. As we await word on Thursday (February 24) of the rest of the top 24, let’s take a moment to remember some of season 10’s most memorable singers who got the boot on Wednesday. Ashley Sullivan We can wonder why producers ever invited the alarmingly fragile 25-year-old to Hollywood — only falling onto her knees and bursting into riotous tears at the New Jersey audition earned her a golden ticket — but there’s no doubting that Sullivan became one of the season’s most recognizable faces (even if that face was most often contorted in tears). While she wanted to be the first show-tune pop star, Sullivan instead became another contestant who melted in the spotlight. She attempted to quit during group week, forgot her lyrics during a subsequent solo performance, and then got married, seemingly on a whim, to her boyfriend when the show made a Vegas stopover. Her wedding present from “Idol” producers? A one-way ticket back home. Chris Medina Most “Idol” observers believed Medina was a lock to make the top 24. Not only did he possess an above-average instrument, but he arrived on the scene with a heartbreaking backstory. His fianc

President Obama’s ‘Race To The Top Commencement Challenge’ Deadline Extended

Students can continue to nominate their schools until March 11. By MTV News staff President Barack Obama Photo: Comedy Central In partnership with MTV’s parent company Viacom and the Get Schooled Foundation , the White House is continuing an annual tradition by hosting the 2011 “Race to the Top Commencement Challenge,” a competition among the nation’s public high schools that aims to find the school that best prepares its students for college and beyond. However, despite the race’s previously announced rules, the competition has extended its deadline to March 11, giving students two more weeks to enter their schools in the competition and win the coveted graduation-day visit from President Obama himself. President Obama shared his excitement over the challenge in a statement that read: “I’m looking for a school that understands the number-one priority is making sure that our kids are learning what they need to succeed in this 21st-century economy.” Students can now continue to nominate their schools until March 11 by submitting an application through the White House website . Once entered, the White House and Department of Education will come together to select six finalists, and, along with Viacom’s Get Schooled Foundation, will work with those six schools to create short videos that will be featured on WhiteHouse.gov and voted on by the public. The top three vote-getters will then be submitted to President Obama, who will select a winner. “We are excited to partner with the White House again on this important initiative — one that takes a unique approach to getting our youth excited about education,” Carl Folta, Viacom’s executive vice president of corporate communications, said in a statement. “This campaign does two very important things: It leverages Viacom’s compelling entertainment brands to make education appealing and tangible, and it shines a spotlight on a national priority that is the core of our nation’s future success.” Last year, Michigan’s Kalamazoo Central High School beat out more than 1,000 schools to win the inaugural Race to the Top challenge and was rewarded with a surprise appearance by President Obama , who then delivered the commencement speech for graduating seniors. The initial competition was such a success, in fact, that the White House decided to bring it back in 2011, with President Obama personally challenging schools to “share effective strategies on how they are preparing their students to win the future and achieve the goal of having the highest proportion of college graduates in the world by 2020.” To enter, head to WhiteHouse.gov and tell President Obama how your school is best preparing students for the future. Adrianne Palicki Cast As Wonder Woman

‘Friday Night Lights’ star will play Wonder Woman, her public persona, Diana Themyscira, and private persona, Diana Prince, in new TV series. By Terri Schwartz Adrianne Palicki Photo: Getty Images “Friday Night Lights” star Adrianne Palicki has landed the coveted role of Wonder Woman in a forthcoming TV series based on the iconic comic book superhero made famous by Lynda Carter in the 1970s. The Amazonian superhero has struggled to get herself to the screen over the past decade, but now that NBC has nabbed David E. Kelley’s ” Wonder Woman ” TV series, production is finally under way. And it makes sense that Palicki, who spent three seasons on “Friday Night Lights,” is the woman who landed the lead, considering “Friday Night Lights” director and producer Jeffrey Reiner is directing the show’s pilot episode. To see what Adrianne Palicki might look like as the new Wonder Woman, click here. TV Line broke the news that Palicki will be playing Wonder Woman, but Kelley’s show will demand that the 5′ 11″, 27-year-old actress play her two other personas as well. In addition to the titular crime-fighting DC comics superhero, now reinvented as a Los Angeles-based vigilante, Palicki will be playing Wonder Woman’s public persona, mega-billionaire CEO Diana Themyscira, as well as her private persona, Diana’s “plain Jane” assistant Diana Prince. After Palicki’s casting was announced, former Wonder Woman Lynda Carter tweeted her approval , saying, “Congratulations Adrianne!” Palicki is far from a stranger to the small screen. In addition to her well-known stint on the recently ended “Friday Night Lights,” she starred in the short-lived TV shows “Lone Star” and “Aquaman,” and memorably guest-starred in “Supernatural,” “Criminal Minds” and “Robot Chicken.” She also recently worked big-screen projects, with major starring roles in 2010’s “Legion” and the upcoming “Red Dawn” remake. In recent years, Hollywood actresses from Jennifer Love Hewitt to Beyonc

JWoww Dishes Relationship Advice On ‘Tonight Show’

‘Jersey Shore’ star is out promoting her book, ‘The Rules According to JWoww.’ By Terri Schwartz JWoww on the “Tonight Show with Jay Leno” Photo: NBC Though Jenni “JWoww” Farley is one of the most lovable characters from “Jersey Shore” both on- and offscreen, she certainly has had her problems with relationships. For the first season of the show, she entered the Shore house in a steady relationship with boyfriend Tommy, but after a steamy make-out session with castmate Pauly D, he broke it off with her. Now, however, she’s seven months into a relationship with boyfriend Roger and told Jay Leno on “The Tonight Show” that she has learned her lesson. “I wrote the book [‘The Rules According to JWoww’] when I was in the middle of our relationship, about four months ago, and I based it off him,” she told Leno on Wednesday night’s show. “I was like, this is what I did wrong with all my exes, and now I found him.” The book details JWoww’s secrets on how to land the guy you want and how to destroy the competition, and she shared some of her sage advice on “The Tonight Show.” Rule number one for a first date? Don’t drink. “Don’t end up like we are on the show. Avoid that,” the 23-year-old said with a laugh. “You want to build communication. You want to listen to what they’re saying.” JWoww said she’s been in three serious relationships so far, and has had her share of dating men both good and bad. When Leno asked her if she hopes she and Roger will still be together the next time she comes on the show, she said she hopes so. But JWoww isn’t sure whether Roger will be visiting her when the “Jersey Shore” gang heads to Italy for the coming season. Still, with her advice book built around their relationship, it seems that sticking by her own rules — like being up front about her eating habits and not settling for a guy whose lifestyle she has a problem with — has been keeping the two lovebirds happy. Take for instance rule 17: Bust his balls a little. “Roger’s going to kill me. He’s a bodybuilder, he’s huge, he’s about 6′ 3″. I like to be like, oh, you’re looking a little small recently,” she said. “Got to keep it interesting.” Don’t miss “Jersey Shore” every Thursday at 10 p.m. ET/PT on MTV.

Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson Top Grammy Performer Poll

Fans can’t wait for their Aretha Franklin tribute, with Lady Gaga and Eminem’s performances the next most anticipated. By Kyle Anderson Christina Aguilera Photo: Getty Images The 53rd annual Grammy Awards are almost here, and while the hardware tends to be the main event, the roster of performers is one of the most star-studded and high-profile in the show’s history. Eminem, Dr. Dre, Cee Lo Green, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Drake, Arcade Fire, Justin Bieber, Christina Aguilera, Jennifer Hudson, Katy Perry, Muse, B.o.B, Usher, Bob Dylan and Bruno Mars are among the heavy hitters who will be taking the stage Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. But which performance is creating the most buzz among fans tuning in to watch the show? Earlier this week, the MTV Newsroom blog posed just such a question, and the results are now in. As soon as voting began, the competition became a war of attrition between supporters of Lady Gaga and hard-core devotees of Eminem. But once the producers announced that there would be a tribute to Aretha Franklin led by Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Hudson , the competition suddenly morphed into a three-way dance. After hundreds of thousands of votes were cast, the Aretha Franklin tribute (also featuring Florence Welch, Martina McBride and Yolanda Adams) finished in first place with 45 percent of the total vote. It’s a pretty impressive finish, especially considering that the performance wasn’t announced until after voting began. Lady Gaga ended up in second place with 23 percent, with Eminem just behind her with 20 percent. Perhaps fueled by the buzz over the release of “Never Say Never,” Justin Bieber made a late run and managed to cobble together 9 percent. Katy Perry was the only other Grammy performer to pick up more than a single percentage point, and poor Miranda Lambert ended up bringing up the rear. All of Sunday night’s Grammy performances promise to be electric, but fans can barely contain themselves for Christina Aguilera, Lady Gaga and Eminem. Don’t miss “Snooki & Sway: Live From the Grammys,” a red-carpet live stream kicking off Sunday at 6 p.m. ET on MTV.com. Jeff Cronenweth on His Oscar Nomination for The Social Network and Joining His Late Father as a Nominee

When The Social Network ‘s Jeff Cronenweth was nominated on Tuesday morning for Best Cinematography, he joined a very rare network: Father-son Oscar nominees. His late father, Jordan Cronenweth, had worked on films such as Blade Runner and was among the chosen cinematographers at the 1987 ceremony for his work on Peggy Sue Got Married . Movieline spoke to Cronenweth while he had a rare free moment on the set of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo about his reaction to being nominated (hint: he would like to win, too), his competition, and what it means to be in the same company as his late father.
