‘American Idol’ Finalist Casey Abrams ‘Feeling Really Good’ After Hospitalization

The “American Idol” front-runner, who missed out on Thursday’s results show because he was hospitalized for a flare-up of ulcerative colitis, posted a message to fans on Monday announcing that he is feeling better and will be ready to go for Wednesday night’s performance show. According to Entertainment Weekly, Abrams made the statements at an “Idol” panel on Monday at the 28th annual PaleyFest, where he took the stage along with eight of his fellow finalists (minors Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery and Thia Megia were doing schoolwork). “I’m feeling really good,” he said. The 20-year-old Illinois singer reportedly received blood transfusions last week, during his second hospitalization of the season. “I thought I was actually going to make it,” he said about last Thursday’s show, “but I had to stay behind. It was fun and everyone waved at me, and I felt really supported by everyone, and I loved watching.” Abrams also said he “hated” seeing Ashthon Jones go home on Thursday and was bummed to miss out on the first group performance of the finals. “It was awesome seeing the group performance … [and] thank you, Stefano [Langone] and Haley [Reinhart], for taking my part.” Earlier this season, on February 23, Abrams was rushed to the ER after complaining about stomach pains and almost missed the subsequent taping of the top-12 men’s performances, which potentially would have eliminated him from the competition before the finals. Simon Cowell Promises ‘Best Judging Panel’ On ‘X Factor’

‘Within the week, I think we’re gonna announce it,’ he tells MTV News. By Jocelyn Vena Simon Cowell Photo: Brian Ach/ WireImage This fall, Simon Cowell and his still-unnamed panel of judges will assault television screens with the American version of the hit U.K. talent show “X Factor.” The former “American Idol” judge wouldn’t cop to any of the names being tossed around as possible judges, but did divulge that he’s really stepped up his game for who he hopes will make up the final panel. “It’s gonna be a balance between guys and girls, and it should be a balance between people who have been singers and also, like me, have worked behind the scenes and know what they’re talking about it,” Cowell told MTV News. “It will be the best judging panel so far. I promise you: If I get the people I want, I’m really happy.” With nothing yet set in stone, Cowell did lay out the ground rules for securing a spot on that coveted panel, revealing that fans should know more soon. “I think you’ve got to put yourself out there and, as a priority, it is about the contestants to begin with. You’ve got to have a sense of humor. You’ve got to work hard because you’re gonna be mentoring the contestants on the final stages of the competition, which basically means you’re going to be responsible for what they sing, what they wear, how they behave,” he explained. “You’re like a manager/producer for up to 10 weeks, and I think it’s important that you have to have people on the panel that have made people into stars as well. And so you’ve got to be different, you’ve got to be original.” But finding those people hasn’t been as easy as he imagined it would be. “This has been harder than I thought,” he said. “You’ve got to negotiate people’s deals, you got to make sure you’ve met as many people as possible, and you got to find the right chemistry. I’ve got it in my mind now. I think of who I want this panel to be, and within the week, I think we’re gonna announce it.” Who would you like to see judge “X Factor”? Casey Abrams Hospitalized During ‘American Idol’ Results Show

‘I got some nice fresh blood in me and feeling better,’ finalist tweets. By Gil Kaufman “American Idol” Finalist Casey Abrams Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images There was a conspicuous absence on Thursday night’s “American Idol” elimination show, long before Ashthon Jones got booted out of the top 13. That didn’t happen until the end of the show. It was judges’ darling and bushy-bearded budding sex symbol Casey Abrams . After another impressive performance on Wednesday night, when he took on Joe Cocker’s version of the Beatles’ “With a Little Help From My Friends,” the 19-year-old film-camp counselor was nowhere to be seen on the stage. Host Ryan Seacrest announced at the top of the show that Abrams was hospitalized for the second time this season and would not be joining his pals for the results broadcast. “You’ll notice that Casey is missing from the group. He is unfortunately sick and in the hospital right now,” Seacrest announced. “Wave to him. … We know you’re watching buddy, feel better — shout-out to the nurses. Get back here soon, OK?” While a spokesperson for “Idol” told MTV News that no further details were available on Abrams’ illness on Thursday night, the bass-playing singer tweeted about the situation after the show, writing “Hey guys, thanks for the well wishes, I got some nice fresh blood in me and feeling better. People at Idol & Cedars are treatin me real good.” An unnamed “Idol” insider reportedly told the Hollywood Reporter that Abrams received two blood transfusions while in the hospital to treat a condition called ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory condition that affects the lining of the large intestine. Earlier this season, on February 23, Abrams was rushed to the ER after complaining about stomach pains and almost missed the subsequent taping of the top-12 men’s performances, which potentially would have eliminated him from the competition before the finals. Abrams was in no danger of going home on Thursday night’s show, but if his condition continues and he is unable to perform next week, he could be sent home. Last season, eventual runner-up Crystal Bowersox nearly missed out on her chance to stay on the show when she was rushed to the hospital, necessitating a rare lineup shuffle that forced the men to perform a night earlier than scheduled. Had Bowersox not recovered in time, producers said that she was in danger of being eliminated from the show. ‘American Idol’ Top 13 Performance Show Will Be Pretaped

Producer Nigel Lythgoe says pretaping will continue for several weeks as new judges and director get up to speed. By Gil Kaufman Casey Abrams Photo: FOX If you were looking forward to watching the “American Idol” top 13 perform live for the first time on Wednesday night (March 9), well, you’ll have to just keep waiting. The singers pretaped their performances on Tuesday night after the Fox network confirmed that the show is not quite ready to go fully live. A network representative told People magazine, “we have pretaped shows at this stage of the competition before … although it’s rare.” Among the reasons the network cited for pretaping the show is to make sure that all 13 contestants’ performances make it into the two-hour broadcast. It is only the second time in “Idol” history that there have been 13 finalists, and even with 12 singers in the past, producers have sometimes struggled to get all the songs in without running over . Because some “Idol” fans are conspiracy-minded by nature, executive producer Nigel Lythgoe launched a preemptive strike on Twitter on Sunday to explain and defend the decision to keep the performances taped for the next few weeks. “We are pretaping for 2 weeks as we have a new Director & new judges. It has nothing to do with manipulation you morons.” That comment, of course, led to some spirited back-and-forth between Lythgoe and said “morons,” some of whom needled Lythgoe about the alleged manipulation. “I love you all getting riled up. The Tweet was directed at the MORONS who said we are pretaping to manipulate the show. Not the TRUE fans!” wrote Lythgoe, who eventually threw his hands up and added, “Sorry I can’t play anymore I have to go to work. There’s manipulating to be done. xox.” He updated the situation on Tuesday, lamenting , “It’s been a tough day trying to get the sound right. With a mix of live band, Jimmy Iovine’s amazing producer’s tracks and live vocals.” He also revealed later in the day that the top 13 had recorded vocals for full-length tracks, which he believes will be available on iTunes after the show airs on Wednesday. Thursday night’s elimination show will air live. Lil Wayne Responds To Alleged Jay-Z ‘H.A.M.’ Dis

Weezy’s ‘6 Foot 7 Foot’ video premieres Thursday at 7:54 p.m. ET on MTV. By Jayson Rodriguez, with reporting by Sway Calloway Lil Wayne and Sway Photo: MTV News Five years ago, Jay-Z and Lil Wayne were trading lyrical jabs like Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj do these days. Their war of words, however, seemed to subside when the iconic Brooklyn rapper invited the Cash Money superstar to join him on “Hello Brooklyn 2.0,” from 2007’s American Gangster. But things seemed to become chilly again when Birdman compared Hov and Weezy, saying his artist is a better rapper and has more money. In January, Jay-Z and Kanye West’s “H.A.M.” arrived via Facebook, and fans wondered whether Jay was taking shots at Wayne on the track. “N—as fantasize about the sh– that I do daily/ Like these rappers rap about all the sh– that I do daily,” Jay spits on the number. “I’m like really, half a billi, n—a, really you got Baby money/ Keep it real with n—as, n—as ain’t got my lady money.” According to Weezy, who heard the track personally through West, he isn’t looking to start another competition with Jay. Wayne told MTV News that he didn’t ask ‘Ye about the alleged dig: “I wouldn’t ask him about a Jay-Z line because he’s not Jay-Z.” That doesn’t mean Wayne wouldn’t respond to the line, even if he hasn’t returned fire just yet. “Me and my wit, given my wit, I would probably play off of it,” Wayne explained. “But I wouldn’t make it a competition, because actually, the subject that he’s talking about in that line, I can’t box with the card. I’d be the first one to tell you that, given my wit, and the type of person that I am, I’d capitalize and I’d play off of it. Yeah, I definitely would.” The New Orleans rapper is putting the final touches on his next studio album — and his first project since his release from prison — Tha Carter IV. But first, Wayne is set to premiere his video for “6 Foot 7 Foot” on MTV this Thursday at 7:54 p.m. Related Videos Lil Wayne Ready To Drop ‘6 Foot 7 Foot’ Related Artists Lil Wayne Jay-Z

Meet Paul McDonald, American Idol Hopeful, Lead Singer of The Grand Magnolias

When Paul McDonald takes to the stage tonight on American Idol , he’ll likely be less nervous than any of the other 11 male semifinalists. That’s because the 26-year old from Nashville has already recorded multiple albums with his band, The Grand Magnolias, and toured a bit around the country. The artist has more experience than most in the competition. Will that result in a well-polished performance? We’ll soon find out. For now, watch McDonald talk about his group and listen to him sing the same original song that he used on an earlier audition, “American Dreams.” Paul McDonald – American Dreams
