Shakira Unveils ‘Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)’

By James Montgomery Photo: JEWEL SAMAD/ AFP/ Getty Images Fresh off her duet with Rascal Flatts frontman Gary LeVox on Wednesday night’s “American Idol” , Shakira has unveiled yet another collaboration … this one set to take place on an even bigger stage (yes, that’s actually possible). On her official site , she’s just posted a track called “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa),” which will serve as the official theme for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, set to kick off June 11 in South Africa. The track — a collabo between Shaki and South African Afro-fusion band Freshlyground — was co-produced by John Hill, who most recently produced a pair of songs from her 2009 album She Wolf. Like much of her work, it’s a poly-sonic affair: According to a statement on her site, the chorus of the song borrows from a favorite Cameroonian marching chant that was popularized by the group Golden Voices. Shakira and Freshlyground will perform “Waka Waka” at the World Cup closing ceremonies, held before the final match on July 11 in Johannesburg Soccer City Stadium. The song will be available for download through digital retailers the week of May 11, and will also be included on Listen Up! The Official 2010 FIFA World Cup Album, set to be released the week of May 31 by Sony Music Entertainment. A Spanish-language version of the track will also be available. Proceeds from the sale of the album will benefit FIFA’s “20 Centers for 2010” initiative, which aims to achieve positive social change through football (that’s “soccer” to us Americans) by building 20 “Football for Hope” public health centers across Africa. In addition to her performance at the closing ceremonies, Shakira will also be one of the headline performers at the official FIFA World Cup Kick-off Celebration Concert on June 10, broadcast from Orlando Stadium in Soweto/Johannesburg South Africa. A video for “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” is also set to debut in mid-May. Justin Bieber Brings Bieber Fever To New Zealand

By Mawuse Ziegbe Justin Bieber arrives in New Zealand Photo: Splash News On his latest stop Down Under, Justin Bieber did what he does best: spark teen hysteria. Following the cancellation of the pop phenom’s only public show in Australia , the star was greeted by hundreds of screaming fans when he arrived in New Zealand. According to The New Zealand Herald, about 500 fans met the teen heartthrob’s arrival with “excited screams and shrieks” Tuesday night (April 27) local time at Auckland International Airport. Many fans had waited for four hours until he touched down. On the heels of Bieber’s canceled show in Sydney, airport officials beefed up security to ensure safety. New Zealand fans have a serious case of Bieber Fever. Melanie Smith, 15, told New Zealand’s Stuff website that she snuck out to see the teen idol and said, “I’ve never been this excited in my entire life.” After Bieber left the airport, teen fan Tory Shaffett said, “Oh my God, he was so amazing and beautiful. I can’t believe I saw him.” Earlier this week, mayhem erupted when thousands of fans showed up to the Circular Quay in Sydney Harbour to catch Bieber’s show. Many concertgoers had camped out overnight to see the star, and rumors that Bieber had arrived at the site early caused a crowd surge around 2 a.m. According to local reports, an estimated 4,000 fans were trampled and roughly 10 were treated after fainting at the concert site. The Herald also reported that security has been increased at the singer’s hotel and performance venue, South Auckland’s Academic Colleges Group Strathallen school. Bieber is scheduled to be in New Zealand for only one day. Despite the hysteria, the star seems to be enjoying his time Down Under. Before arriving in the country, he tweeted , “NEW ZEALAND we are coming!!!” He also showed love to his Aussie fans, tweeting , “AUSTRALIA…i want to say thank you for the most incredible welcome. I wont ever forget it and i cant wait to come back soon and perform.” But it appears the trip hasn’t been all work, as he revealed to his over 2 million Twitter followers, “Yes I got to see a wombat.” What country will be infected by Bieber Fever next? Bret Michaels Condition Growing Worse, Prognosis Grave… According to Donald Trump

According to a representative for Bret Michaels, the rocker “remains in ICU under 24 hour surveillance” and “further testing this week will help locate the source of the bleeding” While not exactly encouraging news about the singer, who suffered a massive subarachnoid hemorrhage last week, this message on BretMichaels.com is at least based on fact and written by someone close to the situation. Then there’s the latest from Donald Trump. Like a Republican politican resorting to scare tactics for attention, the Celebrity Apprentice host tells TMZ that Michaels is in “big, big trouble and the prognosis is not great.” Trump doesn’t back this statement up with any medical information, but does at least offer the following about Bret, who is competing on The Donald’s reality show: “He turns out to be an amazing competitor and ultimately that is the thing that could save his life.” We sure hope so. Meanwhile, a new theory has surfaced about Bret’s condition. Because such hemorrhages are typically related to blunt trauma, might this accident have caused the bleed? It certainly seems possible.

Adam Lambert Goes G-A-Y

This just in: Adam Lambert has gone G-A-Y! No, the singer hasn’t somehow come out of the closet again. Instead, he took the stage on Saturday night at London’s G-A-Y night club, as Adam is spending a few weeks in Europe promoting his debut CD before returning to the States and going on tour . With a packed, screaming house cheering him on, Lambert performed a six-song set at the establishment. He sung hits such as “Fever, “Strut,” “Whataya Want From Me,” and For Your Entertainment.” Prior to the concert, he Tweeted: “London is so beautiful today!!! The sun is shining and I’m looking forward to my show tonight!!!” The former American Idol runner-up didn’t disappoint. Crazed Justin Bieber Fans Cause Riot, Concert Cancellation, Must Chill the Eff Out

Dear Justin Bieber fans: We know this young star is very cute and has a pretty good voice. But he’s just a singer. Seriously, he hasn’t cured a single disease or come up with financial regulation that will help ease the ongoing economic crisis. It’s necessary to pass along this message because people are starting to get seriously injured as a result of the mass hysteria surrounding Bieber. Even worse: police are shutting down his concerts! Both these developments took place in Sydney, Australia over the weekend, as Justin was set to sing on stage for a morning TV show. But the performance was canceled after thousands of unruly fans created a security nightmare and at least 10 girls passed out. Fans camped out overnight for the event. By 3 a.m., almost 4,000 people had gathered. When they heard Bieber might be in the vicinity, they rushed the stage, broke down barriers and generally acted like brides at a wedding gown sale. Not even Tiger Woods acts this out of control inside a Las Vegas night club. As news of the cancelled gig spread, Justin Tweeted: “I love my fans… and I am just as disappointed as everyone else with the news from this morning. I want to sing for my fans,” adding in capital letters: “I WANT TO MAKE THIS CLEAR…I DONT CANCEL…I WOKE UP THIS MORNING TO THE POLICE CANCELING THE SHOW FOR SAFETY REASONS.” Bieber then wrote he was “beyond grateful…for such an amazing warm welcome.” We’re sure he is, but perhaps Justin should also send a message to his followers: Chill the eff out! I appreciate the support, but I have a bowl cut and I sing songs other people have written for me. That’s about it. Update: Kelly Clarkson’s Tobacco Sponsorship Has Been Pulled

After receiving protests from Kelly Clarkson’s fans and anti-smoking groups, the Indonesian cigarette company pulled its sponsorship of the singer’s concert in Jakarta. The promoter of the April 29 concert said that a final agreement has been reached with tobacco Djarum to terminate the deal. Before the concert was terminated, Clarkson said she would still perform despite the criticism. She also posted in her blog that she had not known adverts featured a logo for local cigarette brand LA Lights. In addition, she refused to cancel on her fans. After the concert sponsorship came out, anti-smoking groups in Indonesia and the US accused Clarkson of being a representative and a spokesperson for the tobacco industry. Clarkson wrote in her blog “My morning began with finding out that I am all over billboards, TV ads, and other media formats alongside a tobacco company who, unbeknownst to me, is sponsoring my Jakarta date on my current tour.” The singer wasn’t told of the sponsorship and that she was not a smoker and was in no way an advocate or an ambassador for youth smoking. Unfortunately, her only alternative was to cancel the show in order to stop the sponsorship. Rihanna, the R&B recording artist was briefly hospitalized on Monday night. The singer was brought to a private clinic after performing a concert in Zurich, Switzerland. She had an injured rib and went to have it checked to be sure that it was nothing serious, and it wasn’t. The singer continued her European tour for her “Last Girl on Earth”. Bad news, teenage girls around the world: If a certain Facebook group gets a few more signatures, Justin Bieber will no longer be a member of the male gender. As you can see below, someone has started a page that questions whether or not this 16-year old singer deserves to be considered a man. While it doesn’t list the qualities that make his masculinity questionable, it’s safe to assume that bowl cut sits atop the list… Bieber has sky-rocketed to fame over the last few months. His album is number-one on the charts and he’s shown no hesitation to take on Miley Cyrus , Disney and anyone that stands in his way. How will Justin respond to this calling out of his manhood? Likely with a laugh, possibly with a record-number of female a$$ tapping for a guy his age. Anything is possible with Bieber.
