Bono’s Back Surgery Postpones U2 Tour

New leg of the 360 Tour was set to kick off in Salt Lake City on June 3. By Kelley L. Carter Bono Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage U2 frontman Bono has undergone emergency back surgery at a hospital in Germany, a manager for the group said. Due to the hospitalization, the first date of their tour has been postponed. The 50-year-old singer, whose real name is Paul Hewson, was injured while preparing for the group’s tour. According to a statement on U2’s website , Bono is being treated by neurosurgeon Dr. Joerg Tonn and Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Mueller-Wohlfahrt. “Bono will spend the next few days there, before returning home to recuperate,” the statement read. “Once his condition has been assessed further, a statement will be made regarding the impact on forthcoming tour dates.” Paul McGuinness, the band’s manager, said in an MP3 posted on the website on Friday (May 21) that because of the injury, U2’s 360 Tour stop on June 3 in Salt Lake City has been postponed. After that date, the band was scheduled to play in Anaheim, California, on June 6 and 7, followed by Denver on June 12 and Oakland, California, on June 16. There’s no word whether other dates have been canceled. Bono had recently told The Associated Press that sales of the group’s latest album, No Line on the Horizon, have been somewhat soft, which made for U2’s lowest-selling CD in more than a decade. The band also has said that the massive tour has yet to break even due to the enormous production costs of setting up and designing the 170-ton, $40 million stage. “We hope to get things resolved as soon as possible,” McGuinness said. Casey James was sent packing, while Lee DeWyze and Crystal Bowersox advanced to next week’s finals on last night’s American Idol results show . But the major news coming out of the broadcast centered around the pair of professional artists that performed. First, Justin Bieber shattered ear drums around the nation, as he took the stage and all females in attendance screamed like their hair was on fire. Karissa and Kristina Shannon: Booted from the Playboy Mansion

There’s one rule at the Playboy Mansion: Always make sure Hugh Hefner has a fresh diaper on. No, wait, it’s this: never bring boys into your room! Because both Karissa and Kristina Shannon violated this condition, the busty blondes have been ordered to move out of the iconic premises. “After a couple of weeks, Hef was getting a little bit upset about the boyfriends, so he wanted us to move out,” Karissa confirmed this week. “We were not allowed to have boys in the house. That was the absolute number one rule: no boys allowed.” Indeed, the Shannons have even been forced out of the Playboy House, where they were installed in January. Hef says the trio is still on good terms, just not naked terms: “They will now be friends, but they won’t be defined as the girlfriends… They’ve been hanging out with a lot of the other Playmates and they see these girls travelling across the country to do promotion. They would like to be doing that, too.” Or, in the case of Kendra Wilkinson, doing Justin Frye on video .

Suspect arrested for NY Times Square bomb attempt.

A man at JFK airport was arrested in connection with the failed bomb attack at Times Square in New York. In a statement, U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder says the suspect Faisal Shahzad was attempting to board a flight to Dubai at the time of the arrest. “The suspect, Faisal Shahzad, was identified by customs agents at John F. Kennedy International Airport and was stopped before boarding an Emirates airlines flight to Dubai, according to officials who spoke to The Associated Press early Tuesday on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the investigation. Bret Michaels Has "Sheer Will to Live," Willl Fully Recover, Doctor Says

Based on Rock of Love , we already knew that Bret Michaels possessed a sheer will to get with groupies on his tour bus. But now we know there’s one thing this rock star cares about even more: living. As his condition continues to improve , Michaels’ neurosurgeon at Barrow Neurological Institute at St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center in Phoenix is marveling at Bret’s recovery and attitude. “There is no doubt that Mr. Michaels’ condition is serious,” Dr. Zabramski said this week, following the singer’s subarachnoid hemorrhage on April 22. “Bret’s sheer will to live and fully recover is undeniable. He has an unbelievable fight in him and told me what kept him alive at the moment of the hemorrhage was that he did not want his family to wake up and see him lying unconscious in the middle of the floor.” Michaels has two daughters, Raine and Jorja, ages nine and four. He’s also a diabetic who has suffered through numerous “roadblocks,” Zabramski said, including “hyponatremia, severe cranial and back pain suffered from blood drainage.” His patient in stable condition, the doctor added: “It was a combination of Bret’s fight to stay conscious during the hemorrhage and get to the emergency room, and the immediate medical attention provided by our staff at Barrow that enabled us to stabilize his condition.” The team at Barrow will hold press conference on Tuesday, in which surgeons will update Michaels’ progress even more.

Blind Boy Sees Like Dolphins Do

A blind boy was taught a technique which is used by dolphins to navigate their way through the ocean. This technique has helped him learn how to see despite of his condition. Jamie Aspland makes high-pitch clicks and uses the rebounding sound from surfaces in his path to plot his course around objects. The four-year-old was born without sight. An expert in the U.S. has taught him how to use the revolutionary technique. Jamie is able to imitate the behavior of flicking his tongue against the roof of his mouth. California Daniel Kish is also blind and he taught many children around the world how to imitate dolphins, Jamie is just one of them. Kish calls the eco-location technique “flash-sonar”. Using this technique will allow Jamie to eventually detect building from a distance of 100 meters. According to Deborah, Jamie’s mother, her son can now walk to the park unaided for the first time and was able to successfully steered himself around the fence. Jamie no longer holds his mother’s hand while strolling around the park and this made their life more convenient. Daniel Kish is the president of World Access for the Blind. He developed bio-acoustics based on animal sonar to help humans from “mental maps” of their environment. He copied the technique used by dolphins to navigate their way through the ocean; by using high-pitch clicks to penetrate objects and reflect off the internal structure. ‘Doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery,’ rocker’s reps say of diagnosis. By Larry Carroll Bret Michaels Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images With fans from all over the world watching every update closely, it was revealed Tuesday (April 27) that Bret Michaels has been diagnosed with a condition that could lead to severe seizures. In a statement posted on BretMichaels.com , representatives said the “Celebrity Apprentice” star has been told that he suffers from a side effect that could lead to seizures. “Test results indicate a setback in Bret Michaels condition, a side effect from the brain hemorrhage called hyponatremia a lack of sodium in the body which leads to seizures,” the statement reads. ” … Due to the severity of his condition, Bret Michaels continues to remain hospitalized in an intensive care unit at an undisclosed hospital.” A lifelong Type 1 diabetic, Michaels has been found to suffer from hyponatremia. Caused by a lack of sodium in the body, it can lead to seizures; reps for Michaels wouldn’t confirm whether he had actually suffered seizures recently or in the past. Michaels, who is 47 years old, suffered a subarachnoid hemorrhage stroke last week. The stroke causes bleeding in the fluid-filled spaces around the base of the brain and could have proven fatal. Reps for the rocker say that the unnamed hospital where he is staying plan additional tests to determine the cause of the rupture. The statement from his website also says: “Michaels has undergone a continuous series of tests while in the ICU including angiograms, CT scans, MRIs and transcranial dopplers (TCD’s). Doctors state Michaels is very lucky as his condition could have been fatal. … Doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery and plan to release more specific information next Monday.” Share your well wishes for Bret Michaels in the comments below.
