Ice T And Coco Planning To Name Their Daughter Chanel It’s A Girl! Ice-T and his curvaceous wife Coco have announced the sex of their baby. Via People.com reports : The couple shared the exciting news about their first child together on the premiere episode of their new daytime talk show, Ice and Coco, which was taped July 24 and aired Monday. “I’m 21 weeks. I’m over five months,” Austin, 36, said on the episode, revealing that she’s due in December. The pair have chosen a name for their bundle of joy: “Already got a name,” Ice-T, 57, shared. “The girl’s name is Chanel.” The baby will be Ice-T’s third child – he’s already dad to Tracy and Letesha, his two adult children from previous relationships. Austin told PEOPLE that she couldn’t contain her emotions after first learning she was expecting. “I took the test and when I found out, I ran downstairs. He was on the computer and I was bawling, screaming. He thought someone died,” she told PEOPLE. “He was just as surprised as me.” Austin initially was told that her pregnancy could be high-risk due to high blood pressure, but the news caused her to change her approach to health. She said her body is now in a “healthy zone.” “You never think it could really happen to you — that you can actually make a human being — and when you do, you’re like, ‘Wow!’ ” Austin explains. “Your body takes over and does it itself. You’re not putting the hands and feet together – your body’s cooking it and it’s amazing. It’s a miracle how life can happen.” The mom-to-be’s pregnancy cravings so far have included a variety of fruit, including honeydew, blueberries and pineapple. Despite the healthy diet, Austin has allowed herself one indulgence: soda. “I’m not really a soda girl but I’m craving bubbles,” she said. Young Jeezy Defends Trap Music’s Negative Connotation Against Critics As Atlanta prepares to “Go Crazy” at Young Jeezy’s TM101 10th anniversary concert, the Snowman took to Instagram to speak to his fans, reflecting on his career, and also play a lil’ defense against his detractors who label his now-ubiquitous “trap music” a glorification of drug dealing and violence. They say you have your whole life to make your first album, and they might be right. Some call it poetry, others call it the ghetto gospel, but the industry calls it “trap music.” Go figure. Either way it’s the voice of the streets, and we all know that when the streets talk, we listen. I find it odd when people use a negative connotation like “trap music,” when the message (lyrics) clearly states: make it out of your surroundings and be the best man and provider you can be. We call that being a boss where I’m from — a self made individual that refuses to let his environment dictate his or her outcome in life. This body of work you see before you is just that. Every experience, every up, down and close call. All the nights that you prayed you could make it to see another day. All the sacrifices you made for friends and loved ones you lost to the street life. I can’t help but to think of all the obstacles I had to dodge and the times I was unsure. But I continued to keep my faith and hustle strong. I kept pushing! When I said that the roaches were in the kitchen, I meant that! So now when I tell you the floors look like bowling balls, I mean that too. You can call it rags to riches, but I like to call it a boy becoming a man and believing in his dreams, goals and expectations. I never thought of “fame” or being accepted in this industry; my only thoughts were to represent and speak for every man, woman and child that was in the struggle and just wanted to make a better way of life, without taking no for an answer. With every song, verse and adlib on this body of work, you can hear that determination, that ambition and that drive in every word. News. They haven’t learned the sex of the baby yet, but they’ve already started sharing the good news. We hear Kandi just told her RHOA co-stars who, naturally, are thrilled. And Kandi’s daughter, Riley, and Todd’s daughter, Kaela—both from previous relationships—are equally excited. “Our daughters, Kaela and Riley, couldn’t be happier about becoming big sisters,” Todd tells us. Rihanna Becomes New Creative Director Of Stance Socks BadGalRiRi continues to make it rain on them hoes… Via Complex Rihanna has been named contributing creative director of Stance, the official sock provider of the NBA. The singer dropped hints that she was designing a collection with the brand in May, but this partnership goes beyond just a collaborative collection, WWD reports. Rihanna has signed a three year deal with Stance that will see her star in campaigns and design collections for the brand. The first full collection will be here in the fall, but Stance is releasing two pairs designed by Rihanna today. Crew socks for men and women that have been numbered 1 to 1,500 to symbolize their limited-edition nature will be available along with an over-the-knee style printed with vintage newspaper ads, only 1,000 pairs of the latter will be up for purchase. “I’ve had a great relationship with Stance for a long time and I am happy to be working with them on such a fun and creative project,” Rihanna told WWD. Even more excited about the partnership was Stance’s Candy Harris who told Refinery 29, “This is a seminal moment for the sock category.” She also says Rihanna was very involved in the creation of her socks. “She was incredibly hands-on from the initial mood boards and inception of the collection to the design process and ultimate the final campaign shoot,” Harris said. President Obama Commutes The Sentences Of 46 Nonviolent Prisoners Barack still got a couple tricks up his sleeve before he vacates 1600… Via CNN President Barack Obama commuted the prison sentences of 46 drug offenders, saying in a video posted online Monday that the men and women were not “hardened criminals” and their punishments didn’t match the crimes they committed. Obama said the move was part of his larger attempt to reform the criminal justice system, including reviewing sentencing laws and reducing punishments for non-violent crimes. With Monday’s announcement, Obama has commuted more sentences than any president since Lyndon B. Johnson. “I believe that at its heart, America is a nation of second chances, and I believe these folks deserve their second chance,” Obama said in the video. The move brings the number of Obama’s commutations to nearly 90. Most of those have been for federal prisoners incarcerated for drug offenses who were slapped with long sentences mandated under guidelines set during a drug-and-crime wave in the 1980s. Under current sentencing guidelines most of those prisoners would have already finished serving time. Of the 46 prisoners whose sentences were commuted on Monday, 13 were sentenced to prison for life. Most of those commuted sentences will now end in November, a several month transition period that officials said allowed for arrangements to be made in halfway homes and other facilities. After they’re released, the former prisoners will be supervised by probation officers and subject to conditions that were set during their original sentencing, which is some cases includes drug testing. Misty Copeland Becomes First Black Female Principal Ballerina Misty Copeland has made incredible leaps and bounds for women of color in dance world but the ballerina has made another historic achievement…. Via USA Today : Misty Copeland made history this week when she was promoted to principal dancer of the American Ballet Theater, making her the first African American woman to hold the position in the company’s 75-year history. Copeland has spoken candidly about issues of race in the ballet world before, which earned her a great deal of new fans and introduced more people to ballet, and her performances were some of the most popular at the company in the past few years. She also appeared in a wildly popular Under Armour commercial that settled the question of whether or not ballet was a sport. “My fears are that it could be another two decades before another black woman is in the position that I hold with an elite ballet company,” she wrote in her memoir, “Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina,” published last year. “That if I don’t rise to principal, people will feel I have failed them.” Copeland, 32, had fans waiting for her outside the Met when the decision was first announced.
