Diabetics to Paula Deen: You Hypocrite!!

Celebrity chef Paula Deen is, quite predictably, being called a hypocrite both for hiding her diabetes while promoting unhealthy foods and for turning around and partnering with a pharmaceutical drug company that provides relief for diabetics. Deen, a popular Food Network host, confirmed Tuesday that she was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, the most common form of the disease, three years ago. In the same breath, she announced a partnership with drug maker Novo Nordisk. Fellow celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain is perhaps her best known and most vocal critic, but diabetics across the United States are up in arms at Deen’s disclosure. “It is hypocritical [for Paula] to have continued to very publicly promote entirely unhealthy food choices so vital to the management of diabetes,” one told Fox411. “We of course don’t know the terms of her contract with the company, but it seems either stupid or hypocritical of them to be endorsing her lifestyle,” says another. Deen gave no comment when it was requested, but a source close to the network tells Fox411 that they found out about Deen’s condition only a week ago. Some of Deen’s fans expressed outrage that the 65-year-old chef had found what they believe is a way to capitalize on a diagnosis she kept secret for so long. “I understand she has an empire and a huge following to protect, but working with Novo Nordisk is just adding another revenue stream, and that is tweaking people like me who are in the diabetes education community,” said Carl Moore. Moore, a type 2 diabetic and an educator on diabetic issues, said the news didn’t exactly come as a surprise to him and others with the disease. “Many of us have watched the Buttuh Queen for years cooking with no thought for the consequences and waiting to hear she was diabetic,” he said. Betsy Lampe, who has struggled with type 2 diabetes for more than 20 years, said Deen has already missed her first opportunity to educate victims. “She didn’t tell us anything on the ‘Today Show’; she got really defensive,” Lampe said. “She didn’t even tell us what her blood sugars were.” “You know, diabetics want to entertain and cook too. If I were her I would have announced a whole new show for entertaining as a diabetic. It was just offensive to me. “She kept talking about moderation, but moderation in what? She didn’t explain.” “She is overweight and that makes her, in my opinion, not credible or valid to promote diabetes drugs,” adds Richard Deems, a type 2 diabetic like Deen . The American Diabetes Association, however, was supportive of the Southern chef. “People may benefit from seeing how others successfully manage type 2 diabetes,” the group said in a statement. “Paula Deen, through her work with Diabetes in a New Light, is likely to inspire many people living with type 2 diabetes.” Hopefully, the group says, people will “take a more positive approach to their diabetes care. We commend her for speaking out on behalf of people with type 2 diabetes and welcome her to the Association’s Stop Diabetes movement.”

Shady Defense Witness Says Michael Jackson Caused His Own Death By Giving Himself A Lethal Dose Of Propofol

SMH: Pop star Michael Jackson caused his own death, a defense witness argued on Saturday. Dr. Paul White said, based on the coroners’ report, that Jackson gave himself the fatal dose of propofol and also gave himself an sedative orally after an original propofol infusion by Dr. Conrad Murray failed to put him to sleep, the Associated Press reported. Murray, Jackson’s personal doctor, is on trial for involuntary manslaughter in the singer’s death. White said that Murray’s original dose would have taken 10-15 minutes to work, giving Jackson ample time to inject himself with more once Murray left the room. That, combined with additional drugs in his body, is what killed him, according to the witness. “It potentially could have lethal consequences,” said White. “… I think the combination effect would be very, very profound.” The prosecution argued last week that Murray gave Jackson as much propofol as he requested, no matter the consequences. Dr. Steven Shafer testified that Jackson would have been groggy from the medicine Murray had already administered – and could not have given himself the drug, according to the AP. He can’t give himself an injection if he’s asleep,” Shafer reportedly said. What do y’all think?? I this a valid argument? Source

‘Jersey Shore’ Star Vinny Tries To Combat ‘Viciousness’

On ‘DISconnected’ after show, Vinny Guadagnino talks online bullying: ‘I want to help open people’s eyes up … to the negativity.’ By Kara Warner Vinny Guadagnino Photo: MTV News If you haven’t already joined MTV’s anti-bullying movement via A Thin Line , you can connect with our latest awareness effort, the TV movie “DISconnected,” which premiered Monday. The film revolves around four technology-dependent characters who all endure digital drama and suffer the consequences. In addition to its star-studded premiere , MTV News’ SuChin Pak hosted an exclusive after-show discussion with psychologist Jen Hartstein, “It Gets Better” founder Dan Savage and “Jersey Shore” stud Vinny Guadagnino. “I see the viciousness of people every day,” Guadagnino said. “I kind of want to be a soldier in the field, so to speak, and try to combat the negativity with a positive message. I want to help open people’s eyes up, like this movie does, to the negativity.” The after show also featured in-depth discussions of sensitive subjects in social networking like sexting, cyber-bullying and online dating. Guadagnino had two poignant bits of advice to offer on the subject of online bullying and dating: “Don’t take things personally,” he said, adding that when forging new friendships and relationships in the digital space, tread with caution and trust your gut. “If she has like two friends on her Facebook page and she’s a supermodel, she’s probably not real,” he said. “If all her pictures are model pictures from Maxim, she’s probably not real.” Savage recommended an even more-direct approach: “Get away from the … computer,” he said. “Sometimes, you talk to kids who are being bullied online, and it doesn’t even occur to them that they can shut the computer and walk away from it. The bullies can’t chase them out of the computer and across the house to another room. You can disconnect.” Check out the Facebook page for “DISconnected.” Related Videos DISconnected: The After Show

Britney Spears Takes Down Paparazzi In ‘I Wanna Go’ Teaser

Spears sashays around NYC knocking out photogs with her microphone in the video, which debuts Wednesday. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears in her “I Wanna Go” video Photo: Jive It’s been a while since Britney Spears decided to take down the paparazzi in one of her music videos (see “Pieces of Me”). In a new teaser for her “I Wanna Go” clip, a fit and smiling Spears is seeking ninja-like vengeance against her biggest enemies: the paparazzi and their prying lenses. In the 30-second tease of the Chris Marrs Piliero-directed video, set to officially drop on Wednesday, Spears stands on a Los Angeles soundstage that’s set to look like New York City and surveys the scene. She’s standing atop a taxi, while cameramen surround her from all angles. Wielding a microphone, the singer whips it around like a weapon, knocking the paps from their positions. These scenes are intercut with Spears standing alone and singing into that same microphone, wearing the T-shirt depicting a skull with Mickey Mouse ears from the single’s cover art. Spears tweeted out some stills from the video as well. In one, she’s seen walking down a city street past an NYPD cop car. In another, with her hair undone and wearing a tight red shirt and lots of necklaces, she poses in profile up against a wall, lights flashing around her. Sneak peeks of the “I Wanna Go” video seem to prove that the visuals will certainly match the song’s reckless-abandon lyrics about busting loose from the confines of life, regardless of the consequences. She sings, “Lately I’ve been stuck imaginin’/ What I wanna do and what I really think, time to blow out/ Be a little inappropriate ’cause I know that everybody’s/ Thinkin’ it when the lights out/ Shame on me/ To need release/ Un-uncontrollably.” Related Videos Britney Spears: I Am The Femme Fatale Related Artists Britney Spears
