Shots Fired: Q-Tip Blasts Kanye West For Profiting Off Confederate Flag Merchandise

Is Yeezus in the wrong? Q-Tip Talks About Kanye’s Confederate Flag Merchandise Via The Grio reports: Q-Tip, the legendary member of A Tribe Called Quest, has weighed in on the controversy swirling around Kanye West’s decision to feature the Confederate flag on merchandise being sold on his Yeezus tour. The “News Slaves” rapper has pushed back against his critics, claiming “it’s my flag” and arguing that his use of the imagery, which is normally associated with bigotry and pro-slavery views, is an attempt to subvert its meaning. “I just think people look cool in it. They look nice. And it’s colorless also,” West said in an interview at Los Angeles’ 97.1 AMP radio station. “It’s super hood and super white boy approved at the same time. That’s really what my style has always been.” Q-Tip got a heated conversation started on the issue with a simple, albeit profane, tweet which read: “F**k the confederate flag.” The “Bonita Applebum” lyricist then got into a debate with tweeters, some of whom defended Kanye. Tip clarified that his remarks were in no way a diss of Kanye: Twitter Continue reading

SMH: Randy Jackson Still Fighting Over Michael Jackson’s Will, “We Don’t Believe The Will Is Real”

Michael is turning over in his grave as we speak. Randy Jackson Re-Ignites Battle Over Forged Will Here we go again. How long are they going to battle over this will? According to Radar Online The tension lingers between Michael Jackson‘s brother Randy and officials looking over his late brother’s estate (executors John Branca and John McClain, and overseeing attorney Howard Weitzman), with Jackson calling the trio “The Three Stooges” while appearing on a podcast over the weekend. In it, he groused to a disbarred California lawyer named Brian Oxman that he believes there’s flimflam ongoing in the disbursement of the late Thriller singer’s millions. “My family is not happy with McClain and Branca,” Randy said. “We don’t believe the will is real. We don’t support it. We’re not happy.” He peppered in a few controversial comments about tax issues with the estate (“I know something is wrong,” he said) and admitted he thinks “someone” instructed Dr. Conrad Murray to keep his brother in a medicated haze. And as is the case with the showbiz family, there seems to be a bit of infighting, as Randy admitted, “a few of my brothers and sisters, I’m not getting along with right now.” Randy was at the forefront of the controversy last summer after grandmother Katherine was infamously whisked to Arizona, causing a domino effect that led to her losing partial custody of her grandchildren Paris, Prince and Blanket. Hope they get it together. Last thing they need is another public Jackson family squabble.

Paula Deen Apology: Posted, Removed, Vague and Really Awkward!

Just hours after she bailed on the Today show , Paula Deen issued a bizarre statement regarding her use of racial slurs, only to promptly yank it off YouTube. It’s the weirdest, least sincere-sounding apology ever. See for yourself: Paula Deen Statement on Racial Slurs With an edit after almost every sentence and frequent stumbles over words, this “apology” achieves the rare feat of leaving Deen’s image worse off than before. Rather than explaining why she used racial slurs in the past, which she admitted under oath in a lawsuit deposition – she just says she’s really sorry. For what? You wouldn’t know based on this video! She doesn’t say. Clearly, some PR team (and not a very good one, mind you) threw together a script and had her read from it, rather than letting her speak from her heart. The result is Deen looking ridiculous … neither sincere, nor apologetic, nor capable of understanding what the heck she even wants forgiveness for. It was taken down shortly after it was posted, but as we know, nothing can truly be axed from the Internet. Her PR people could be axed, however … One assumes this was filmed in response to the controversy that arose over a lawsuit against Deen, who is accused of discrimination in the workplace. A former employee said Deen made racial slurs against her; Deen denied the allegations of the lawsuit, but admits she has used epithets in the past. And to think, there was a time when the nutritional content of Paula Deen recipes was the most controversial topic associated with the Southern chef.

Lil Wayne Dropped By Mountain Dew Over Emmett Till Controversy

Lil Wayne will no longer be representing Mountain Dew. PepsiCo cut ties with its popular pitchman Friday over his controversial lyric mentioning 1950s civil rights martyr Emmett Till in the crudest of ways. “Beat that pu–y up like Emmett Till,” the 30-year-old rapped on Future’s “Karate Chop” remix , which was later pulled due to the offensive reference. Weezy recently apologized for (well, acknowledged) the controversy in a letter to Emmett Till ‘s family, but that apparently did not go far enough. PepsiCo released a statement asserting that Weezy’s “offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand.” “We do not plan any additional work with Lil Wayne moving forward.” Tunechi’s rep confirmed the split with the food and beverage corporation, but called it “an amicable parting” of ways due to “creative differences.” When he was 14, Emmett Till was beaten beyond recognition in Mississippi in 1955 for allegedly whistling at a white woman and nothing more. Epic Records removed the obscene lyric from the song and issued an apology, and Weezy said he will not be performing it in any way again. Yet the Till family was still outraged by the lack of a sincere apology and called for Mountain Dew to sever its ties with the Young Money CEO. Point, Till family.
