Typically a celebratory occasion, the Billboard Latin Music Awards took on a somber tone last night, honoring the life and tragic death of Jenni Rivera. The singer died in a December plane crash . Posthumously, however, Rivera took home six trophies at the ceremony, including Regional Mexican Album of the Year (for “La Gran Señora”) and Artist of the Year. “You are my diva,” Rivera’s father, Pedro Rivera, said in accepting the awards. “May God bless you, my daughter.” The awards also paid tribute to Rivera via a montage of clips from her live performances and her reality-TV show, I Love Jenni . Her brother Juan Rivera even sang “No Llega el Olvido,” accompanied by a mariachi band. Don Omar, meanwhile, led the field with 18 nominations and an incredible 10 wins.
The resignation of Rebecca Martinson from her Maryland sorority may have been less of a resignation and more of a directive by the chapter, sources say. The author of that hilariously, offensively, head-scratchingly insane sorority girl email left Delta Gamma this week amid the controversy she created. Sources close to the situation say Rebecca’s “resignation” came only after it was made clear that she could not stay, and would be booted imminently. “There was no way, just no way, they were letting her stay,” a UMD insider said of behind-the-scenes talks between DG sorority decision makers. Rebecca’s email rant to her Delta Gamma sisters – in which she unloaded on their alleged Greek Week activitiy shortcomings – leaked and went viral. She used CAPS LOCK a lot. She asked her pals is they are blind, dense and retarded. She called them f–gots. She threatened to “c–t punch” them. She said they were LITERALLY so F–KING BORING and AWKWARD and went on for an astonishingly long time in a borderline threatening tone. The sorority announced this week that Rebecca has resigned, posting a diplomatic statement on the web. But insiders say she had little choice. “She was forced out,” a source said. “They basically forced her to resign.” “It was made very clear by the sorority what she needed to do.” The sorority was in “don’t-blame-us mode” when Facebooking its announcement of Rebecca Martinson’s “resignation,” and wants this to blow over ASAP. Good luck with that? Perhaps the best part of all of this? Martinson, a college junior, was not the chapter president or in any real position of authority. Another source adds, “One of the weird things is she wasn’t really in charge of anything even though she made it seem like she was in that email.”
Jaden Smith is letting the whole world know he thinks his relationship with Kylie Jenner is pretty awesome. The young rapper/actor is the subject of a new interview with Wonderland Magazine where he discusses his music, why he believes in Aliens, how he feels about his weird sister Willow, his friendship with Justin Bieber and the relationship with Jenner. Check out the photos and excerpts form the interview below: On His Friendship/Touring with Justin Bieber: He’s in London to open for his best friend, Justin Bieber, at the O2 arena and two shows in, he’s experienced the force of his fans. “They go crazy every time we put on a hype track. It’s awesome.” But it’s a tour that has become infamous following Bieber’s peculiar behavior: prowling shirtless through chilly London, arriving on stage two hours late, a hospitalisation suffering from breathing difficulties and scuffles with the paparazzi. Worst of all was the evening that will now be referred to as “Bieber’s botched birthday”. The Canadian star’s 19th celebrations were scuppered when his friends were turned away from the Cirque du Soir club. But Jaden missed out on all the controversy-courting shenanigans, he says. “I went to his hotel. I gave him his Cartier. And then I went to see Kanye West perform,” he says. “I got him the Love Bangle, not the watch. It cut him, but yeah, he thought it was cool.” On His Relationship With Kylie Jenner: “I was in LA, we were all hanging out. Then I went to New York and she came too, and then she came here and surprised me, so that’s pretty baller. She’s one of my best friends. It’s pretty awesome.” Hmmmm one of his best friends eh? Jaden is likely gettin’ that becky. Word to Plies. What do you think about Jaden and Kylie’s “relationship”? Hit the flip for more Photo Credit: Wonderland/Rory van Millingen
Justin Bieber has a pair of major celebrities in his corner. At last night’s premiere of Pain & Gain , both 50 Cent and Mark Wahlberg responded to the controversy surrounding Bieber and his recent Anne Frank comments , with the rapper echoing the sentiment that has landed Bieber in trouble: “She probably would have been [a belieber],” Fiddy said of the Holocaust victim. Wahlberg, meanwhile, thinks JB just needs a break. “I think it’s best to put down the phone and Twitter and all that stuff, and just be a little more low-key right now,” the actor said. “Because they’re watching every move he makes, everything he says, and less is more. Go take a vacation.” This advice comes on the heels of Bieber Tweeting an odd cartoon photo of himself and a fan in bed . He really might wanna turn the phone and computer off for awhile.
