Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Meek Mill has had a rollercoaster year, but he’s finishing 2018 strong. After spending nearly five months in jail, the Philly rapper came out swinging at the law. Joining the conversation surrounding racial disparities in the criminal justice system, Meek has been shedding light on how Black youth are targeted and kept behind bars for extended periods of time. And besides getting politically active , the Wins & Losses lyricist is also killing on the music front, having just dropped his highly anticipated fourth studio album. Possibly his most memorable project to date, Championships boasted incredible features from mentor Jay-Z , rap newcomer Cardi B , Fabolous , and even former rap nemesis Drake . Meek tugged at heartstrings on “Trauma,” Hov made his relationship with Kanye West clear on “What’s Free,” Drizzy and Meek reunited in a moment of brotherly love on “Going Bad” …and that was only the beginning. Listen to the full album here . Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty After releasing the project to rave reviews, Meek hit up Elliott Wilson ‘s CRWN series this week and dished on everything from how Jay-Z’s verse came about to being motivated by Drake’s “Back to Back” diss record and having dinner with Bey and Hov. He also gave advice to the upcoming generation of rappers and discussed using his platform to speak on important issues, plus Kevin Hart coming to visit him in prison. Watch the interview via TIDAL above, plus a few highlights below. On Getting A Hov Feature For Championships “I represent the path that Hov created—a young hustler from Marcy projects that became a billionaire. That’s the sh*t I grew up on and the type of music I grew up on and the things I wanted to be. I spent a piece of my life sipping lean, for a short period of time, popping percs…but that was never my lifestyle…I grew up on being a hustler and flipping money and doubling money and trying to move your family out the hood and being a boss. So, I always wanted that Jay-Z feature. He came through this time. Shoutout to Hov!” On His Favorite Bar In Hov’s Verse “My favorite part is ‘I ain’t got a billion streams, I got a billion dollars.’” On Squashing The Beef With Drake And Coming Together For The Album “A lot of people don’t know me and Drake been contacting each other for a year, but it’s like I’m not with the fake shit. I’m not with the, just try to act like I’m cool with you to do a record. If we fight or you got beef with somebody in the street, you don’t wanna…have a problem with them, and then the next day y’all got y’all arm around each other. It take time—he gotta be ready, I gotta be ready for that sh*t.” Watch the clip up top to hear stories from the rapper about his time in prison, that time Jay Z accidentally played “Back To Back” during a double date with Meek, Nicki Minaj, and Beyoncé , and more. Days after releasing his CHAMPIONSHIPS album, he sat down with Elliott Wilson for a public interview in New York. During that hour-long sit-down, Meek opened up on one of the more hilarious, if not awkward moments of his life when he was dating Nicki Minaj – a dinner date with Jay-Z and Beyonce . Now imagine, you’re with your lady. Beyonce and Jay-Z ask YOU to come out with them for a double date. You’re nervous as hell right? Well, so was Meek — until Jay-Z got a hold of the playlist. “It was my first time. I was hype as s**t. I was with Nicki and s**t. I’m from the hood. Hov and Beyonce like, ‘come and eat with us.’ I’m like damn, I’m about to double date with Hov and Beyonce right now. This s**t is incredible,” he recalled. “So Hov got the playlist. He clicking through s**t. He clicking through, ‘Back to Back’ come on by mistake while we at the table. I’m like oh s**t. What the f**k? So Beyonce and Hov and Nicki, everybody just looking like they don’t know what the f**k is going on. I gotta take a s**t now. What the f**k?” Yup, Hov accidentally played Drake ‘s massive diss record towards Meek at the dinner table. Judging by the timeline, this had to have taken place sometime in 2015 but that is mad awkward. Luckily, Drake and Meek are back on good terms and even recorded a track for CHAMPIONSHIPS called “Doing Bad.” Meek says the pair had spoken a year or so before the track was released, letting time and good spirits heal over what was easily the biggest battle of 2015. The Walking Dead returned to AMC with a lot of surprises for longtime fans of the series. There was a time jump, two deaths, a proposal, blindsides and a whole lot of zombie action. The episode kicked off with a cute scene between Judith, Rick, and Michonne, showing that Alexandria really did manage to weather the storm. It was rising up thanks to the leadership in Rick, but there was a new mission for him and his allies to work on: They embarked on a trip to Washington D.C. to garner supplies, but these weren’t the usual supplies these zombie slayers usually pick up. These ones would allow them to create transport that would not really on gas. Instead, they would rely on horses and a whole lot of manpower. That’s why the gang made their way to the Museum of Natural History because that was the best place to get some equipment to make carriages for the horses. What followed was a tense scene as the group worked in tandem to get a carriage down a set of stairs and across a large room without making a noise. There were walkers right below them, and what made it even scarier was that it was a glass floor separating them. In a somewhat predictable chain of events, the ceiling gave way, and Ezekiel fell down. Thankfully there was a bit of rope that kept him dangling just long enough for his pals to save him. The first death of the hour came when the group was on the way back with the supplies. Walkers appeared from every direction. Ken did not want to see the horse die, so he quickly tried to slice the shackles to save it, but he gave up his own life in the process. One of the walkers feasted on his arm, and that was the end of him. His mother and father blamed Maggie for taking their son out to find supplies. Gregory was on hand to turn them against Maggie because that’s what the loser does. He always pops up to cause some drama. He successfully managed to get the boy’s father to try and murder Maggie as she was doing a midnight patrol around the Hilltop. Maggie was saved in the nick of time and went straight for Gregory’s place. The villain laughed at the very notion of trying to kill here before attempting to stab her on the spot. Maggie overpowered him and decided to call a town meeting. That involved bringing Rick over from Alexandria. Rick pleaded with Maggie to offer some assistance to the Saviors, but she was against it. If you watch The Walking Dead online , you will recall that she wanted Negan dead, but Rick saved him. Maggie offered a deal to Rick: She will offer food and resources to the Saviors, but they will be the ones to build the bridge and provide most of the labor. Maggie then said that she was supposed to be in control of everything and that Rick was still grating on her nerves. She had a point, and Rick was genuinely blindsided by it. Maggie then executed Gregory, saying that everyone knows there are rules and she will inflict them on people if she so desires. Elsewhere, Daryl was freaking out when someone started writing “We are still Negan” on the walls of the Sanctuary. He confronted Rick about not wanting to work there anymore, but Rick said that someone else would have to take his place. Carol overheard the conversation and agreed to take over from her friend, so he had a break to get it together. We also learned that Carol and Ezekiel’s relationship was going from strength to strength. Ezekial even tried to propose marriage to Carol. She declined, and we’re left to wonder why. Outside of a certain cotton candy-haired McDonald’s and bigotry enthusiast, it’s hard to think of a more divisive public figure than Kanye West. Even his fans often find themselves rolling their eyes at Yeezy as he waxes philosophical about everything from his sneaker collection to the ” dragon energy ” he shares with Donald Trump. Kanye’s rants range from amusing to appalling (It’s gonna be a long time before he lives down those ” slavery was a choice ” comments.), but generally, even his most baffling remarks are tolerable, as we only have to deal with the man in small doses. The same can’t be said for Kim Kardashian. The Wests might not spend as much time together as your average married couple, but Kim still has a whole lot of Yeezy in her life. And when Kanye flies off the handle or simply makes a big announcement without consulting her first — such as when he announced last week that he’s moving to Chicago — Kim is often forced into damage control mode. Not surprisingly, it seems she’s beginning to grow tired of cleaning up her husband’s messes. “Kanye has always been like this. He has a million things on his mind that he wants to accomplish and create,” a source close to the couple tells People magazine. “Though one can see it as being very passionate, it can still be overwhelming for Kim.” Yes, as much as she’s relished offering up her private life for public consumption over the years, even Kim draws the line at sharing future plans with TMZ before they can be discussed as a family. “She doesn’t necessarily love when people now keep asking her if she is moving to Chicago and she has to explain to everyone what’s going on,” says the insider. “It can be exhausting” Fortunately, as F. Scott Fitzgerald famously remarked, the rich are different from you and me. And thus, Kim and Kanye have the luxury of spending large quantities of time in different states. “When it comes to their living situation, Kim and Kanye have had a long distance marriage in the past,” the source adds. “She isn’t concerned about this. “She spent a lot of time in L.A. while Kanye was in Jackson Hole for his album. Chicago will be the same — Kim and the kids will join Kanye when they can and then Kim will be in L.A. when she needs to.” This has been “being fabulously wealthy makes literally everything easier and better,” exhibit 900 bajillion.
