Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty It looks like Joe Budden and Charlamagne Tha God are going to start a new Hip-Hop tradition as the two have once again linked up for another installment of their end of the year recap , Pull Up . For two hours and change, the pair touched on a bevy of 2018 topics including the king of R&B debate, Tekashi 6ix9ine, and their favorite rap albums of the year with Charlamagne voicing his displeasure with Lil Wayne’s long-anticipated release of The Carter V . “I thought Lil Wayne’s project was too long, number 1 and number 2, he’s not talking about anything. Wayne is 37, 38-years-old. You’ve lived a long fruitful life, you’re a father… you’ve been to prison – you’re not telling us anything about yourself.” Well, he’s not wrong but Weezy fans might give him the business for that hot take. Wait till you hear his take on that highly anticipated Nas and Kanye West project. Source: Jim McIsaac / Getty LeBron Walked Into Staples Center With His Own Glass Of Wine LeBron James’ first season as a Los Angeles Laker has been all about making boss moves, but this latest one really might take the cake. Since the baller injured his groin on Christmas day, the star has been making the absolute most of his time off after it was revealed that he would miss the next few games. He’s been using this time to tweet about his most anticipated movies, he won an award, and he even recruited some potential future teammates. But none of those actions showed just how much LeBron was enjoying his time off until last night, when King James decided to waltz into the Staples Center for the Lakers game while enjoying a nice glass of red wine. GOAT debate is officially over. This is next level. pic.twitter.com/n8vJUuZbnf — Chris Martin Palmer (@ChrisPalmerNBA) December 29, 2018 It should be said that we don’t ACTUALLY know that what’s in LeBron’s glass is wine…but it sure looks like that’s exactly what it is. Like we mentioned before, Bron wasn’t playing in the game last night due to his injury-so what’s wrong with a man relaxing with some vino as he watches his teammates play? Twitter had an absolute field day with this and the conversation ranged from James being the GOAT for this entrance to people concerned that he has a serious drinking problem and is disrespecting the NBA. LeBron walking in with a glass of wine is probably the sickest thing I’ve ever seen an injured guy do. — Lakers Insiders (@LALInsiders) December 29, 2018 This is disrespectful. @KingJames , you are not bigger than the NBA or the Lakers. I hope you don’t cry when you fall off the fake throne you built. Source: Johnny Nunez / Getty Meek Mill Named Man Of The Year, According To BET Meek Mill has undoubtedly had one of the biggest years of both his life and his career, so it’s only right somebody acknowledges that. The rapper is sending 2018 out the right way with a special honor from BET that’ll most definitely give him some confidence as we stroll into 2019. The artist, who just dropped his highly-anticipated album CHAMPIONSHIPS last month, has been deemed the 2018 Man of the Year by BET. This honor was bestowed upon Meek for many reasons, but it was of course in part due to his vocal criticisms of the country’s ongoing issues with criminal justice and the need for reform. “Who Meek Mill is today is the best version of himself with more sky to climb,” the network said in their statement announcing the honor. “His interviews are now meaty. He’s never sounded more articulate, more personable, more informative . . . Meek widened America’s eyes toward its own illnesses. For example, he spoke from a personal perspective on how a low self-worth and desensitization to the judicial system prevented him and so many others from fighting inaccurate charges.” The year-end celebrations are going to continue for Mill into next week in Miami, where the rapper will be performing at the Story nightclub for a New Year’s Eve throwdown. It’s been a big year for Mr. Meek Mill, it’s only right he end it all with a bang.
Source: Apega/WENN.com / WENN LeBron James is pretty much Teflon when it comes to controversies off the court, but a pair of recent instances have put him in the crosshairs of critics chomping at the bit. The Los Angeles Lakers superstar slammed NFL owners in a recent episode of his HBO show The Shop, and the sharing of a questionable 21 Savage lyric had him later apologizing for the act. Deadline reports : Speaking with business partner Maverick Carter Friday on his HBO Sports series The Shop, with guest stars Todd Gurley of the Los Angeles Rams and rapper/actor Ice Cube, the Los Angeles Lakers forward called NFL owners “old white men” who, he said, acted like slave masters. “In the NFL they got a bunch of old white men owning teams and they got that slave mentality,” James said in the conversation. “And it’s like, ‘This is my team. You do what the f— I tell y’all to do. Or we get rid of y’all.’” James then said it was the players who made the league, not the league making the players. “The players are who make the ship go,” James said. “Every Sunday, without Todd Gurley and without Odell Beckham Jr., without those players, those guys, there is no football. And it’s the same in the NBA.” Sports Business writer Darren Rovell shared a tweet out of LeBron James rapping the lyrics of 21 Savage’s “ASMR” track, which prompted a flurry of chatter criticizing James for doing so although there were some who didn’t think he was taking the anti-Semitism route. However, James told ESPN that he truly didn’t mean to offend anyone by sharing out the song. “Apologies, for sure, if I offended anyone,” James said to ESPN after his squad lost 107-99 to the Memphis Grizzlies. “That’s not why I chose to share that lyric. I always [post lyrics]. That’s what I do. I ride in my car, I listen to great music, and that was the byproduct of it. So I actually thought it was a compliment, and obviously, it wasn’t through the lens of a lot of people. My apologies. It definitely was not the intent, obviously, to hurt anybody.” Surprised LeBron, who makes very few mistakes, put this out. Does quoting lyrics from a song absolve the person quoting from the responsibility behind the words? I’d argue no, especially with a following of 45 million. pic.twitter.com/efv9gkXres — Darren Rovell (@darrenrovell) December 23, 2018 — Photo: WENN
Source: Tommaso Boddi/Greg Doherty/Robin L Marshall / Getty Moniece Slaughter & Apryl Jones Argue Over Lil Fizz Moneice Slaughter sparked chatter about her baby daddy Lil Fizz and (the mother of Omarion ‘s kids) Apryl Jones dating over the holiday break, and it ended with the ladies hashing things out on a live stream. So how did this rumor start??? Under a photo of Moniece holding hands with a mystery man, fans questioned if it was Fizz. Moneice promptly fired back that it wasn’t possibly Fizz, because he was in Chicago “with Apryl and the kids.” Right away, fans took Moniece’s comment as she was exposing Fizz and Apryl for dating. This was especially spicy to folks because Fizz and Omarion are BOTH in the same band (B2K) and plan on touring together in 2019 ! Apryl denied the claim, calling her relationship with Fizz “platonic”. However, Moniece suggests the couple has been sneaky, only learning that they’ve been spending lots of time together because her son said he had been spending lots of time with Apryl’s kids — Fizz never even told her he was going to Chicago, she found out on facetime. She said: “I just wanted to let people know that it was impossible for it to be his hand because he was in Chicago with Apryl and the kids, my kid included. I don’t give a f*ck who he ends up with, as long as the b*tch keeps her hands off my kid, is nice to my kid and never speaks ill of me in front of my kid, I don’t give two sh*ts who she is.” Fast forward, the women took to IG live to hash things out and it was a complete mess! Click to see it here. In case you’re impatient, this tweet accurately describes how their conversation went: Apryl: DONT DRAG ME INTO THIS Moniece: Cam told me you spent the night Apryl: YOU WAS BEING REAL PETTY ON YOUR LIVE Moniece: and I thought they was in Aspen but Cam said he in Chicago with your kids. I’m going to jump out the window and say it, Aquaman is one of the best movies from the Warner Bros DC Universe in a very long time, but during my conversation with Amber Heard, I think I might make a plate for her to take out from our hypothetical cookout. She shook her head at the BBQ Becky’s of the world, reads books about White Fragility and she’s one hell of a Princess Mera in Aquaman. Amber explains why we see so much more negativity but points out a change is coming, “I think it’s easy to see how much people aren’t doing because we have such a heightened awareness and ability to see and connect and share with the rapid acceleration with the access to social media through our phones and an increased connectedness with that,” Amber says. She also says that same connectedness which is making us more aware of the unjust things happening in the world it’s also changing the world at the same time. “There are negative things happening in this world at rapid speeds but there is so many good things happening. There is so much positive change happening but what’s really inspiring and encouraging is knowing where it came from.” Amber explains the change it’s coming from the ground up, young people and boots on the ground.” Check out my interview with the cast of Aquaman and go see this new movie when it hits theaters at midnight. I ain’t never downing the next b*** to get close to some d***. And as for Herb, stop acting like you didn’t cheat with that b***h cause you did. Source: Julia Marie Burton / Bossip/Julia Marie Burton Bossip’s Exclusive Report From Michelle Obama’s Motown Museum Surprise Pop-Up BOSSIP was on-hand in Detroit, Michigan at the Motown Museum inside of Hitsville, USA when our forever FLOTUS Michelle Obama surprised a group of 18 male students of color from Wayne State for an event produced by her Reach Higher initiative. The young men believed that they were solely there to take part in a roundtable discussion about life, school and career paths with Keegan-Michael Key (Key & Peele) and Mrs. Obama’s brother and NBA coach Craig Robinson. Source: Julia Marie Burton / Bossip/Julia Marie Burton The energy in the room was unlike anything we’ve ever experienced being that WE knew at any minute during the conversation, Michelle Obama was going to burst into the room and leave us and the students with our eyes wide, picking our jaws off the floor. It was a glorious moment. Yes, she really said “you know how I do” in response to the idea that this was a “boys only” meeting. God, we love this woman. Mrs. Obama was in the “D” as part of the nationwide Live Nation tour for her best-selling book Becoming , but she wanted to take the opportunity to speak specifically to a group of minority men for the first time and give them encouragement and insight into being successful students, professionals, and people. FLOTUS went on to say that part of letting go of that fear and embracing discomfort, is not being ashamed of hardships and life struggles that you may have endured. “Put it on the table”, as she so eloquently states, “let folks deal with it.” Motown Records is a sponsor of the Fall 2018 Becoming: An Intimate Conversation With Michelle Obama tour. Motown President Ethiopia Habtemariam spoke about their role in spreading and supporting FLOTUS’ message: “We’ve established this partnership because Motown’s continued growth and evolution over decades embodies the message of Mrs. Michelle Obama’s new book, Becoming. The playlist reflects our past dedication and continued commitment to remain the voice of today and tomorrow. Like Mrs. Obama, some of our artists experienced Hitsville for the first time and stand on the same ground that Motown artists and staff built into the iconic emblem that is globally recognized and loved by so many today.” It was surreal to be just mere feet from the woman that has inspired us along with millions and millions of others. If you haven’t picked up a copy of Becoming, then congratulations, you are playing yourself in a way that would make DJ Khaled ashamed. Pick up one for yourself and someone you love for Christmas, Michelle Obama has written an amazing gift. Continue reading →
A lmost three weeks after winning her controversial runoff election, Mississippi’s GOP Sen. Cindy Hyde-Smith had no intention of returning donations to companies that demanded refunds after she created public relations problems for them with her racist campaign. SEE ALSO: How Racism Came To Dominate The Mississippi Senate Runoff Election Hyde-Smith’s campaign made one exception when it returned money to just one donor: Major League Baseball, which is trying to promote racial diversity as fewer Black athletes chose to play baseball, the New York Times reported on Friday. MLB’s contribution represented $5,000 of the more than $50,000 that donors wanted back. Hyde-Smith, who has an affinity for white supremacy, set off a furor with her remark about public hangings in a state that has a long history of lynchings. She was running against Mike Espsy , a former congressman who is African-American. A Federal Election Commission spokeswoman told the newspaper that Hyde-Smith is not required by law to return the contributions. Regulations only require campaign committees to return illegal donations or those that exceed contribution amount limits. Black Republicans in Mississippi rallied behind Cindy Hyde-Smith in her runoff election against Mike Espy despite evidence that she's a racist… #MississippiRunoff #RepresentTheVote pic.twitter.com/8i4CmIHP33 — NewsOne (@newsone) November 28, 2018 Hyde-Smith and Espy were the top vote-getters among several candidates in a special election to replace retiring GOP Sen. Thad Cochran . A runoff was necessary because none of the candidates won more than 50 percent of the votes on Election Day. It appears that Hyde-Smith’s campaign spent all the money over an abundance of fear that she created an opening for Espy to win. Espy was a clear underdog in the runoff election. A survey taken shortly before the election showed that Hyde-Smith had a 10-point lead. However, fearful Republicans scrambled in the days ahead of the runoff election to prevent Hyde-Smith from losing the Senate seat, prompting President Donald Trump to hold rallies in the state with the hope of turning out his base to vote for her. The worry stemmed from an unguarded moment on her campaign trail when Hyde-Smith revealed her racist attitude toward African Americans . At a Nov. 2 campaign stop, she praised a longtime supporter. “If he invited me to a public hanging, I’d be on the front row,” she was caught saying on a video posted to social media. In the following weeks, more revelations about her undying love for the Confederacy surfaced. As the public’s memories of the runoff fade with the passage of time, many of these same companies, which include Walmart and the health insurance giant Aetna, will have to decide whether to support Hyde-Smith’s re-election campaign in 2020.
