Big Sean Comments On Recent Arrest

‘Man, that was just some little minor sh–,’ Sean tells DJ Tim Westwood of his arrest on sex abuse and other charges. By Alvin Blanco Big Sean Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images A couple of weeks ago, Def Jam rapper Big Sean was arrested for sexual assault in upstate New York. Although he vehemently denied the charges, he has since been quiet about the situation. However, earlier this week after performing at Cargo in London with Kanye West, the 23-year-old spoke with DJ Tim Westwood about his arrest, albeit briefly. “Man, that was just some little minor sh–, man,” Sean told Westwood. “I really wanna talk about it too, and go through the details, but my lawyer says I can’t talk about it ’til it’s all said and done.” Big Sean (born Sean Anderson) and his friend Willie “SayItAintTone” Hansbro were both charged with forcible touching, unlawful imprisonment and sex abuse by a woman after a concert in Lewiston, New York, on August 4. The G.O.O.D. music MC had just performed on the same bill as Wiz Khalifa as part of the Rolling Papers Tour. Moments earlier in the conversation with Westwood, the “Marvin Gaye and Chardonnay” rapper again recalled his excitement at being nominated for the Best New Artist for his single “My Last,” featuring Chris Brown, at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards . “I found out at like 2 a.m. in the morning,” Sean said. “I called my mom and was like, ‘Mom I’m nominated for an MTV award, ahhh!!!’ I was screaming and then she started screaming. We were just sharing that moment.” Big Sean and Hansbro, who were released shortly after their arrest on $500 bail each, are both due back in Niagara County Court on September 6. Big Sean, Rest Of MTV Jams’ Fab 5 To Appear On ‘RapFix Live’!

Visit MTV.com at 4 p.m. ET to see Sean, Future, Meek Mill, Big K.R.I.T. and Mac Miller live. By Rob Markman Big Sean Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images This week marks the end of MTV Jams’ 2011 Fab 5 rollout — perfect time for a party. This week, “RapFix Live” will celebrate the accomplishments of all the Fab 5 inductees — Big Sean , Future , Meek Mill, Big K.R.I.T. and Mac Miller — and you never know who will show up on Wednesday at 4 p.m. ET on “RapFix Live.” Conceived in 2005 on MTV Jams, the Fab 5 is a collection of the most outstanding new hip-hop artists of the year who have made a visible impact on the road to releasing their debut albums. Fab 5 alumni include Juelz Santana, Tony Yayo, Paul Wall, Young Jeezy, Kid Cudi and Drake. This year, MTV Jams, MTV News and MTV2’s Sucker Free collaborated to bring you 2011’s hottest new hip-hop upstarts. Big Sean , who hails from Detroit and is a part of Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music crew, has already had an amazing year after he put out his debut album Finally Famous in June. Off the strength of his Chris Brown-assisted lead single, “My Last,” Sean’s LP debuted at #3 on the Billboard albums chart. Atlanta representative Future has had quite the year as well, after capping 2010 off with a breakthrough performance on YC’s club hit “Racks.” Future used the opportunity to catapult his own career and has been running ATL’s underground thanks to mixtapes like True Story and his Gucci Mane collab tape, Freebricks. Meek Mill has made a huge impact this year as well. After getting signed to Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group, Meek Milli made his splash on the label’s Self Made Vol. 1 compilation. Songs like “Tupac Back” and “I’m a Boss” proved Meek’s worth as a lyricist and hitmaker, and his latest mixtape, Dreamchasers is helping propel the Philadelphia native’s career. With Big K.R.I.T.’s major-label debut Live From the Underground set to drop in September, the Meridian, Mississippi, MC/producer is shaping up to be a force in the rap game. After turning heads with his 2010 independent album K.R.I.T. Wuz Here, Krizzle wowed listeners with his own brand of Southern soul and has quickly become a fan favorite. Mac Miller rounds out 2011’s Fab 5. The 19-year old spitter already has two critically acclaimed mixtapes under his belt as well as a pair of national tours. Now, Mac is currently working on his indie album Blue Slide Park, which will be released this fall on Pittsburgh-based Rostrum Records. The future is no doubt bright. Gucci Mane ‘Can’t See’ Recording With Young Jeezy Again

During ‘RapFix Live,’ Royce Da 5’9″ also shares his thoughts on hip-hop beefs. By Alvin Blanco, with reporting by Sway Calloway Sway Calloway, Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame Photo: MTV News Gucci Mane and Young Jeezy have squashed their beef again, but don’t expect any new music from the Atlanta rappers. MTV News’ “RapFix Live” caught up with Gucci Mane for his first on-camera interview since his release from prison, and the “Lemonade” rapper confirmed to Sway Calloway that he and his longtime rival decided to squelch any further altercations between their respective teams. “On the strength of [the fact that] anything could have happened between not just me and him [but] between our camps, we just came to a sit-down of just respecting the fact that somebody can get hurt, and it ain’t going to be us,” Gucci said. “That’s what made us do that.” Although the two trap stars came to rap prominence almost simultaneously — Jeezy was featured on Gucci’s early hit “So Icey” — they began feuding soon after. Things quickly went from words on wax to real violence. In 2005, five men who were allegedly party of Jeezy’s camp, stormed into a home where Gucci was visiting a woman. One of those men, who was thought to be affiliated with Jeezy (which he has vehemently denied), was later found dead . Barbs were traded in song thereafter, with occasional confrontations between the two factions. However, during a 2009 radio interview with DJ Drama , Gucci — calling in from jail — and Jeezy said they were squashing their differences and mentioned the possibility of collaborating. But Mr. La Flare, who just dropped his Ferrari Boyz collaboration with Waka Flocka Flame , offered an “I don’t think so” when asked about the possibility of him and Jeezy creating music together again, adding, “We started the conversation, but I can’t see it happening.” Royce Da 5’9″, also a guest on Wednesday’s edition of “RapFix Live,” who famously feuded with D12 years ago, is no stranger to rap beefs and offered his own insight on the matter. “People need to realize that a lot of these beefs that stem from rap or stem from other things, it doesn’t mean you have to make a song just because you squashed the beef,” Nickel Nine said. “People should just appreciate that they’re not beefing anymore; that’s great in itself. They can stop there, and it’s OK.” Fortunately for rap fans, the Detroit lyricist has recorded with a number of individuals he, at one point, wasn’t on good terms with. Notable among them is Eminem, with the pair releasing Hell: The Sequel as Bad Meets Evil last June. Before Royce finally met up with Slim Shady again — the two had stopped speaking in 2003 — he first ended his beef with the late Proof and then the rest of D12. Sometime after, word got back to Eminem that there were no longer any issues between the MCs, and he called Royce. The phone call put in perspective how inconsequential all the previous back-and-forth was. “I answered the phone. He said, ‘Royce, it’s Marshall,’ ” Royce recalled. “I said, ‘What’s up, Marshall?’ And then we just started laughing. It’s like embarrassing. It’s so childish. That’s what happens when you in your 20s: You grow out of that.” Do you think we’ll ever hear music from Gucci and Jeezy again? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below. Jay-Z And Kanye West’s ‘Otis’ Video To Premiere Thursday!

Watch the Throne clip will hit MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV.com and BET at 8:56 p.m. ET/PT. By Rob Markman Jay-Z and Kanye West in their “Otis” video Photo: Roc-A-Fella Jay-Z and Kanye West will continue to keep fans watching. Three days after the monumental release of their collaborative album Watch the Throne, Hov and Yeezy will premiere the LP’s first video, for “Otis,” on MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV.com and BET on Thursday at 8:56 p.m. ET/PT. Immediately following the premiere, the Spike Jonze-directed music video will air on MTV Jams and MTV Hits, with an encore airing on MTV2 at 11 p.m. ET/PT. Read all about how Jay and Kanye are breaking the mold with Watch the Throne. “Otis” captivated music fans when it premiered last month on DJ Funkmaster Flex’s Hot 97 radio show in New York. The song, which samples Otis Redding’s 1966 rendition of “Try a Little Tenderness,” finds Jay and ‘Ye rapping eight bars apiece before passing the mic back and forth several times during the track’s two-minute-and-58-second run. There is no catchy chorus or melodic refrain, just the dusty record loop and hard-hitting rhymes, which made the song an instant fan favorite. Days after the song’s release, two pictures from the video’s set were leaked online. One photo showed a large American flag draped over a blue wall, correlating with Givenchy designer Ricardo Tisci’s cover art for the single. The second pic was of Jonze and West on set, but it ultimately revealed nothing about the clip’s theme or overall feel. What are the critics saying about Watch the Throne ? So far, the “Otis” video has been shrouded in mystery, much like the Watch the Throne album itself. Because the LP didn’t leak early like most albums these days do, fans didn’t get their first listen to the album until it was officially released Monday. Now they get to see WTT ‘s first visual when the “Otis” video premieres Thursday. In addition to the premiere, fans can check out MTV News’ “RapFix Live” on Wednesday (August 10) at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com and watch as industry experts weigh in on Watch the Throne and what to expect from the joint album’s first video. Hey Nas… How Ya Doin’? Hope You Are Not Taking That Number

“Yeah, so what I was sayin’ was… your lyrics really inspired me…” “You know especially that one song… what was it called? Oochie Wally!?! Yeah that was my sh*t!” At least that’s how we imagine this conversation going between hip-hop man banger Nas and uh… his athletic apparel and embellished nail rockin’ companion. Nas was spotted waiting for his car at the valet station in front of Urth Cafe in West Hollywood. We thought maybe she might be his trainer or workout partner or something but based on the footwork, we’re gonna say naaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah. Nas if that’s your cousin or something, we apologize — but if so maybe it’s time to advise shorty to handle them crusty toes. WENN

Big Sean ‘Hype’ About First VMA Nomination

‘I called my mom and I woke her up,’ the G.O.O.D. Music MC tells MTV News of finding out about his nod on tour. By Rob Markman Big Sean Photo: Theo Wargo/ WireImage Big Sean received his first VMA nomination on Wednesday, and hopefully it won’t be his last. In the opening scene of his “My Last” video with Chris Brown, Sean looks into the camera and says, “I feel like my dreams are coming true” — must be because the Detroit rhyme spitter is up for Best New Artist. “Man, I was hype as hell,” the G.O.O.D. Music MC told MTV News. “I called my mom at like midnight. I was in Charlotte [North Carolina] last night when I found out, and I called my mom and I woke her up,” said Sean, who is on tour with fellow Best New Artist nominee Wiz Khalifa. “I cracked a bottle and everything. That was a real big accomplishment.” The competition is tough, with Tyler, the Creator (“Yonkers”), Kreayshawn (“Gucci Gucci”) and indie poppers Foster the People (“Pumped Up Kicks”) also up for the award. Sean obviously wants to win, but just being in the conversation is a win for him. “I, of course, knew it was a possibility, but it’s tight to just see it actually come to fruition,” Sean said of his mind-set back when he filmed the video. “When I was on the set of the video, I was just hoping it comes out good. This is just like an added bonus.” Sean isn’t the only member of his crew nominated: His big homey Kanye West snagged seven nominations, including nods for Best Hip-Hop Video, Best Male Video and Best Collaboration for his “All of the Lights” clip. “He definitely deserves all of them, man, I think so,” Big Sean said. “Especially Best Collaboration. That was just crazy, ‘All of the Lights.’ He had Elton John, everybody on there, Fergie, Alicia Keys, Cudi, everybody, The-Dream.” The Finally Famous lyricist is in full support of his mentor. “Kanye always goes hard. I’m proud of him. I was telling him how proud of him I was the other day. He’s inspiring, he deserves every bit,” he said. “He gives his whole life to music, his whole life. He’s one of the most selfless people I know, so I’m excited. Hopefully, it’s gonna be a good night.” The 28th annual MTV Video Music Awards will air live on Sunday, August 28, from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles at 9 p.m. ET/PT. Building Up Our Young Sisters

Have you ever sat and listened to the conversations some young black girls are having on the subway, or at the bus station? What about those that cause all types of hell in McDonalds or tell their business so loud the whole mall can hear them? In the morning when I make my daily trek from Harlem to Brooklyn on the A train I’m confronted with “b*tch this/b*tch that,” n***a this/n***a that” and for the record I’m not talking about the young boys on the train (who are just as guilty), I’m talking about our young sisters. Some of the most disturbing conversations I’ve heard on the street were from young women. I’m not exempting young men from this conversation but I want to take a special moment to discuss our young sisters who are the mothers of our generations to come. ( Continue reading… )
