The Glory! Innocent Black Alabama Inmate Freed After 28 Years On Death Row

58-Year-Old Alabama Death Row Inmate Freed After Murder Conviction 28 Years Ago Via TheGuardian Anthony Ray Hinton, 58, spent half his life on Alabama’s death row, sentenced to die for two 1985 murders that for decades he insisted he did not commit. Over 28 years, the outside world changed while Hinton spent his days largely in a 5ft by 8ft prison cell. Children grew up. His mother died. His hair turned gray. Inmates he knew were escorted off to the electric chair or the lethal-injection gurney. He was set free on Friday after new ballistics tests contradicted the only evidence – an analysis of crime-scene bullets – that connected Hinton to the slayings. As he left the jail, Hinton said he would pray for the victims’ families as he has done for the past 30 years. They have suffered a “miscarriage of justice” as well, he said. He had less kind words for those involved in his conviction. “When you think you are high and mighty and you are above the law, you don’t have to answer to nobody. But I got news for them, everybody who played a part in sending me to death row, you will answer to God,” Hinton said. Welcome home, brotha. Image via AP

Val Kilmer: Dying Due to Bizarre Religious Beliefs?

Actor Val Kilmer was rushed to the hospital for emergency surgery over the weekend as a result of severe bleeding caused by a tumor in his throat. Now, TMZ is reporting that Kilmer has been ignoring his potentially deadly condition since the summer as a result of his religious beliefs. Kilmer is a member of the Church of Christian Science, which teaches that health problems are healed by prayer, not medical treatment. The acclaimed actor was apparently so adamant in his conviction that his faith would save him that family and friends who suggested he go to a doctor were instantly cut out of his life. The Tombstone star’s health has been the subject of much scrutiny from the press in recent years. Kilmer’s weight gain in the early 2000s was followed by a sudden drop in pounds that many took as an indication of a medical affliction. Over the past few months, Kilmer took to wearing a scarf in public, reportedly to conceal the swelling in his neck. Those closest to the actor are said to be encouraged by the fact that Kilmer has finally acknowledged the need for medical treatment. He is currently said to be in stable condition, but his recovery could be a extremely difficult one.

Teresa Giudice: Meeting With Divorce Attorney?!

Joe Giudice is due in court today to be sentenced for possession of a fraudulent driver’s license. It’s small potatoes compared to the fraud charges that have already gotten Giudice sentenced to 41 months in prison, but even so, one might expect his wife to join him in court. Instead, sources say Teresa was a no show because she will be meeting with a divorce attorney to begin the process of ending her 14-year marriage to Joe. Rumors that Joe and Teresa are headed for divorce have been circulating for months, but insiders say that we’ll no longer have to speculate as to the state of the Giudice’s marriage: Teresa is intent on calling it quits. Reportedly, the Giudices have been living in separate homes ever since they were both sentenced to serve prison time at a hearing last month. Teresa is said to be fed up with Joe’s drinking and negligent parenting, and friends say she continues to blame her husband for the fact that she’ll have to report to prison on January 5. Of course, despite signing a plea deal, Teresa is still trying to get out of her sentence , and further proving that she really doesn’t understand how the law works, she’ll reportedly demand that her divorce lawyer also help her appeal her conviction. “Teresa really likes [the attorney], and will likely hire to handle the appeal of her looming prison sentence,” says a source. “She is going with her gut instincts on this one.” That should turn out well. At least she’ll fit right in when she checks into the slammer early next year, as these classic moments over the years prove … 11 Teresa Giudice GIFs That Should Worry Her Fellow Inmates 1. Table Flipping Fiend Teresa Giudice is not gonna take any crap. Her table-flipping reputation will precede her in prison, thanks to The Real Housewives of New Jersey Season 1. You can also follow the link to watch The Real Housewives of New Jersey online to relive the many times Teresa’s gut instincts have let her down in the past. Emphasis on many.

Delayed Punishment: Man Who Was Allowed To Remain Free After Clerical Error Is Thrown Back In Jail For 13 Years

This is fawked up. Clerical Error Makes State Forget To Send Man To Prison For 13 Years SMH. According to CBS News: Most fugitives go to great lengths to avoid the police, but one convicted criminal didn’t have to try. He was allowed to stay free for more than a decade. But the long arm of the law finally did reach out. CBS News’ Dean Reynolds met “Prisoner 1039699″ at the Southeast Correctional Center in Charleston, Mo., Thursday. Mike Anderson is nine months into a 13-year sentence for an armed robbery that took place in 1999. He should have gone to prison in 2002 after his conviction and unsuccessful appeals, but Missouri made a mistake. It forgot about him. Anderson said he’s been told it’s all a clerical error. Instead of ordering Anderson to prison, the state mistakenly thought he was already there. Anderson said he waited and waited. Reynolds asked Anderson, “What did you think would happen as the days and weeks and months and years went by?” Anderson said, “I had this sense in me that everything was OK, no matter what was gonna happen, that everything was gonna be OK, and, to this day, I still have that.” It’s a shame he changed his life around and is now serving jail time for something he did 13 years ago.

Chris Brown: In Rehab For Anger Management!

Chris Brown has checked into a rehab facility to seek treatment for anger management issues in the wake of his arrest last weekend, according to reports. Brown’s attorney, Mark Geragos, dropped him off at an L.A. treatment center, presumably to deal with his rage issues – and stave off a prison sentence. Perhaps Breezy heeded Mike Tyson’s advice ? “Chris Brown has elected to enter a rehab facility,” said a statement Tuesday night from his rep. There is no indication of substance abuse issues. Only rage. “His goal is to gain focus and insight into his past and recent behavior, enabling him to continue the pursuit of his life and career from a healthier vantage point.” The L.A. County Probation Department is proceeding with an investigation to determine if Brown violated his probation in the 2009 Rihanna case. By getting arrested for assault for allegedly punching some guy in the nose, Chris could have his probation, and freedom, revoked. Conviction or not. Due to the victim’s injuries being less than severe and conflicting witness accounts, the felony charge against him has already been reduced to a misdemeanor. It’s the probation that’s the real problem for Chris, though, not this case. The embattled 24-year-old star flew to L.A. after getting released from the D.C. jail and met with L.A. County Probation Department officials today. Following his conviction for assault for his attack on Rihanna , he was given five years’ probation, which requires him to do community labor and obey all laws. Not done and not done. At best, the R&B singer is on thin ice at this point. It’s likely the Probation Department will conclude Brown violated his probation , and a judge could sentence him to as much as four years in prison. However, a judge could also withhold a decision until after the D.C. case plays out. In which case, the rehab move could show good faith and contrition. Well, at least until the next time he beats the crap out of somebody. Talk to us, THGers: Should Chris Brown go to jail?   Yes. Enough is enough, and he’ll never learn otherwise. No, let’s see how this case plays out in court. No! Step off haters! #TEAMBREEZY View Poll »

Epitome Of A Bad Father: Man Suffocates His 18-Month-Old Toddler Because He Interrupted His Video Game Session

He needs his azz whooped. Father Suffocates Son Some people don’t need to be parents. This child lost his life over a video game. Sad. According to Mail Online An Iowa jury took less than 45 minutes on Tuesday to convict a Mason City man in connection with his toddler’s death – which the prosecution allege was because the 18-month-old interrupted his father’s video game session. The Cerro Gordo County jury found Kenneth L. Adams guilty of child endangerment resulting in the death of his son Owen on October 27th 2012. Prosecutors alleged during the trial that the toddler head-butted his father during a temper tantrum and that enraged his father enough to hold a pillow over his son’s face until he suffocated. The boy was rushed to Mason City Hospital, where he was pronounced dead and Adams now faces a mandatory sentence of 50 years in prison. Assistant Cerro Gordo County Attorney Blake Norman said that the quick decision vindicated the decision by the county to bring child endangerment charges against Adams and not that of murder. There was insufficient evidence to charge Adams with directly causing his own son’s death, so the county settled neglect resulting in death. ‘The fact that the verdict came back guilty does not bring back Owen. Owen is gone forever so we do not take any pleasure in this. But we do feel that justice was done for Owen.’ Adams’ wife, Tiffany, and other family members declined comment after the verdict was announced. Sentencing is scheduled for November 8th and the conviction carries a mandatory sentence of 50 years in prison. Poor baby.

O.J. , what can college students possibly learn from you? How to kill a b**** 101? How to go to jail for stealing your own ish? O.J. Simpson Wants To Go On Tour If Released From Jail According to TMZ OJ Simpson is already planning life after jail — despite the fact that his conviction has yet to be overturned — and priority numero uno: a massive college speaking tour to line his pockets. Simpson is gunning for a retrial in his 2007 armed robbery case, for which he’s currently serving out a 33-year-sentence. If a new trial happens, and his conviction is overturned, Simpson’s time behind bars could be drastically reduced. With high hopes of getting out soon, Simpson reportedly told a source close to The NY Post that he plans to go on a nationwide college tour to make some cold, hard cash speaking about the Nicole Brown murder case. OJ told the source, “I’m excited. I mean, they teach the ‘Trial of the Century’ in school, so who better to talk about it than me?” According to the report, Simpson could make up to $1,000 per speech. Would you want O.J. teaching your kids? AP
