There were no “gun shots” or wounded co-eds. Just the visual alone granted him ‘active shooter’ status, according to a student report. The university shut down the campus back on May 1st, according to Daily News reports , and sent alerts to students to vacate “the coop”. They also tweeted warnings about an armed man on campus, warning students to stay clear. After a light investigation and talking with the student, they found out that he was on his way to finish an art project. I The President of the university, Brian Casey, offered his sincere apology over the faux pas. He called the incident a “profound error” according to reports. “It is important that we understand the role that implicit racial bias had in the initial reporting of and responses to the events of (Monday) night,” the president said. “I want to make sure we speak with those who made and received the initial report to understand the role this played.”
