Lawsuits: Four Gay Men Are Suing Ex-Therapists Who Promised To Help ‘Turn Them Straight’!!

It was worth a shot , wasn’t it?!?! A group of men are taking therapists to court for deceiving them after the promise to help them ‘overcome unwanted attractions’ failed…SMH. According to The New York Times , In New Jersey on Tuesday, four gay men who tried the therapy filed a civil suit against a prominent counseling group, charging it with deceptive practices under the state’s Consumer Fraud Act. The former clients said they were emotionally scarred by false promises of inner transformation and humiliating techniques that included stripping naked in front of the counselor and beating effigies of their mothers. They paid thousands of dollars in fees over time, they said, only to be told that the lack of change in their feelings was their own fault. Since the 1970s, when mainstream mental health associations stopped branding homosexuality as a disorder, a small network of renegade therapists, conservative religious leaders, and self-identified “life coaches” have continued to argue that it is not inborn, but an aberration rooted in childhood trauma. Homosexuality is caused, these therapists say, by a stifling of normal masculine development, often by distant fathers and overbearing mothers, or by early physical abuse. But leading scientific and medical groups say that the theories of homosexuality are unfounded and that there is no evidence that core inner-urges can be changed. They also warn that the therapy can, in the words of the American Psychiatric Association, cause “depression, anxiety, and self-destructive behavior” and “reinforce self-hatred already experienced by the patient.” One former patient in the suit, Michael Ferguson, 30, who is now a doctoral candidate in neuroscience at the University of Utah, sought help from Jonah in 2008. He tried to battle his homosexuality, he said, when he was a practicing Mormon who believed that only those in a heterosexual marriage could achieve eternal bliss. “It becomes fraudulent, even cruel,” he said in an interview. “To say that if you really want to change you could — that’s an awful thing to tell somebody.” “I was encouraged to develop anger and rage toward my parents,” he added. “The notion that your parents caused this is a horrible lie. They ask you to blame your mother for being loving and wonderful.” Another former patient in the suit, Chaim Levin, 23, grew up in an Orthodox Jewish community in Brooklyn where, he said, being gay seemed unthinkable. Referred to Jonah by a rabbi when he was 18, Mr. Levin began attending weekend retreats at $650 each. For a year and a half, he had weekly private sessions with Mr. Downing as well as weekly group sessions. He quit, he said, after Mr. Downing had him remove his clothes and touch himself, saying it would help him reconnect with his masculinity. Mr. Levin said that he was abused by a relative between the ages of 6 and 10 and that Mr. Goldberg and Mr. Downing blamed the abuse for his homosexual attractions. “Saying the abuse made you gay is terrible,” Mr. Levin said. “Once I accepted that I was gay, I was able to focus on the more serious problem of a history of abuse.” Do you think it’s worth the ‘effort’ for men to try therapy in order to change their feelings for other men? 15-Year-Old Gunman Charged With First Degree Attempted Murder In Maryland First Day Of School Shooting!

15-year-old Bobby Gladden brought a bottle of vodka with him on his first day of school this year . He also brought a disassembled shotgun and 21 rounds of ammo. Robert Gladden, 15, Identified As Shooting Suspect In Perry Hall Attack, Charged As Adult If you haven’t heard already, Gladden is the teen being held responsible for the school shooting near Baltimore Monday that left a classmate fighting for his life. Police have charged Robert Wayne Gladden Jr., 15, with attempted first-degree murder and assault in connection with Monday’s shooting at Perry Hall High School in Baltimore County. Gladden has been charged as an adult, police said. He is being held without bail at the Baltimore County Detention Center. Police will hold a news conference Tuesday morning to discuss the case. Daniel Borowy was shot in his back shortly before 11 a.m. in the school’s cafeteria, court documents said. Eyewitnesses described hearing a sound like a bag of chips popping before realizing that someone was shooting. Bowery, 17, remains in critical condition. With heightened security and trauma counselors on hand, Perry Hall restarted its school year Tuesday, the day after a student shot in the cafeteria was left in critical condition and another student was taken into custody as the suspected gunman. The shooting took place on the first day of classes Monday as several hundred students were in the cafeteria, where the sound of gunfire initially seemed like just another piece of the aural landscape. Instead, it was gunfire, striking Bowery, who was airlifted to Maryland Shock Trauma Center as classmates and strangers offered prayers for him at impromptu gatherings and across social media. Police said they do not believe the victim was targeted by the shooter. Witnesses said a school counselor quickly grabbed the shooter and pinned him up against a vending machine. The suspect was taken into custody shortly after the shooting. A man who identified himself as the suspect’s father told the Associated Press that his son had been bullied but declined to give further details. A woman who said she was related to the father gave the following statement on the family’s behalf: “We are horrified. We did not see this coming and our thoughts and prayers are with the victim and the victim’s family.” Students described a day that suddenly turned chaotic during an early lunch break in the cafeteria of the school, the county’s largest with nearly 2,200 students. Rather than the festive atmosphere of a school community returning after summer break, police helicopters whirred overhead, students dove under cafeteria tables and, as the news spread quickly, distraught parents tried to reach their children, in person or by phone or text message. Throughout the day, a sense of disbelief pervaded. Jeremy Knavel, 16, said he couldn’t believe his eyes when he saw a student emerge from a bathroom Monday morning, taking a gun out from under his shirt. “I thought it was a joke,” he said. “Then when I heard the shot, I ran. I’m shaken still. I can’t believe it actually happened.” Sophomore Nick DiPaula, 15, said he and a friend were talking in the cafeteria when they heard a loud bang and turned to see what it was. “We just see him with the gun, and he’s aiming it at my table,” DiPaula said. A school counselor he identified as Jesse Wasmer ran over and tackled the gunman as he and other students hit the floor and another teacher started yelling, “Get out of the building, get out of the building!” DiPaula said. Wasmer was hailed as a hero by colleagues and across the Internet, where a “Thanks Mr. Wasmer” Facebook page was created. He could not be reached to comment, and school officials declined to discuss details of the incident. The actions of Wasmer and other teachers in the cafeteria who intervened “were really beyond what anyone can be expected to do,” and “made that situation the best it could have been in such a horrible time,” said Matt Smoot, a science teacher in his fifth year at the school. New Baltimore County schools Superintendent Dallas Dance, on his first day of classes after being hired this spring to head the school district, praised the school’s “heroic, brave faculty.” Dance said Perry Hall High would be open Tuesday with additional security at the school. The Police Department’s Critical Incident Stress Debriefing team will provide support for students and faculty, Armacost said. Junior Ryan Brady, 15, said he was several feet away from the shooting victim and saw blood on his shirt. As the counselor was tackling the shooter, his gun went off again, the bullet hitting the ceiling, said Brady, who got under a table to hide. “After I got outside, my hands were shaking really bad,” he said. “First thing I did was call my mom and told her everything that happened, and told her I was all right.” Police officers were already at the school, standard procedure for the first day of classes. County Executive Kevin Kamenetz said police and school officials responded in “terrific fashion” to the shooting. Students were escorted to the nearby Perry Hall Shopping Center at the corner of Ebenezer and Belair roads, where parents were instructed to meet them, police said. Hundreds of visibly shaken parents and others gathered at the shopping center as police helicopters hovered overhead. Thank God that guidance counselor moved so quickly! Here’s more info on Gladden via BusinessInsider : * He goes by the nickname SuicidalSmile on Facebook. * Many of his profile pictures show Gladden taking photos of himself while his long hair covers his face. Gladden also claims to like musicians Marilyn Manson and Slipknot and references notorious mass murderer Charles Manson. * Gladden’s Facebook page first caused concern yesterday when parents of students at the school noticed Gladden’s last status update read “First day of school, last day of my life. t(~_~t), fu*k the world.” . * Gladden’s classmates confirmed Tuesday to The Associated Press that the page belonged to the suspected gunman. * Police told The Associated Press that Gladden came to school armed with a disassembled shotgun and 21 rounds of ammunition. He also reportedly had a bottle of vodka. * Gladden’s father confirmed his son had been bullied prior to the shooting. However, police have not officially released a motive. * Students discussing the shooting on Tumblr offered different opinions of Gladden. After reading his Facebook page, one student, identified only as username those-atomic-bombs, said “any sympathy I had for this kid now gone until further notice.” * However, a student identified by the name -dazzleme- said Gladden “isn’t a psycho, or a monster or anything that you may think he is,” adding Gladden didn’t mean to shoot Borowy. “I know Bobby and he isn’t the type of kid to just go and randomly shoot people. He’s the kid that makes you laugh. He was bullied often and I believe that he just could not take it anymore,” -dazzleme- wrote on the Tumblr feed. Sad, the kid sounds deeply troubled. Our prayers are with Daniel Borowy and his family. We pray he will fully recover. Source Facebook

Guess the Most In-Demand Actor in Hollywood

Everyone is familiar with that special breed of screen performer whose names are associated with not only longevity, but also ubiquity. Gene Hackman reigned among this class for much of the last few decades, his title soon overtaken by Michael Caine, Samuel L. Jackson, Nicolas Cage and others who’ve shown a willingness to earn paychecks in everything from Oscar bait to glorified grindhouse fare. Yet another thespian exceeds them all in output, not only with an impressive slate of completed work but also a calendar-busting array of upcoming projects. Just who is the most in-demand player in Hollywood? It might come as a surprise, but by all appearances Danny Trejo holds that title. The character actor has achieved something close to omnipresence in recent years; so saturated are movies with Trejo’s image that you can almost overlook his appearance while watching one of his many films. Much of this has to do with the fact that, despite the former boxer and ex-con’s dependable ruffian visage, he has assembled an impressively varied resume relying on both gritty roles in direct-to-rental genre pulp and such diverse mainstream titles as The Muppets , A Very Harold and Kumar Christmas , and Spy Kids 4D — to say nothing of his frequent television work. And with news this week of Trejo and director Robert Rodriguez’s Machete Kills shooting next month, the actor’s profile will only broaden from here. Using the comprehensive (if admittedly unreliable) IMDB Pro as a launching pad, I went about separating the real Trejo wheat from the development chaff for one of the most robust slates anyone has achieved in a generation: COMPLETED Sushi Girl (the role of Schlomo): A man is released from jail after six years and has a celebratory sushi dinner with the rest of crew, eating sushi off of a naked girl who is supposed to be oblivious as they try to reclaim their loot. Haunted High (The Janitor): A New England private academy finds itself with a demonic headmaster, while the janitor is also the enforcement guardian of the school. (SyFy original movie) Counterpunch (Manny Navarro): A bipolar boxer from Miami tries to win the Golden Gloves championship, with the help of his counselor. Amelia’s 25th (Don Javier): A young actress has a midlife crisis the day she turns twenty five in Los Angeles. IN THE CAN/POST-PRODUCTION Bro’ (Gilbert): A college student gets involved in the wild partying lifestyle of a professional motocross racer. Skinny Dip (El Tigre): A grindhouse offering about a young woman (played by Sasha Grey) who, following the death of her boyfriend, dresses as a cop and takes on the role of a vigilante. The Cloth (Father Connely): Centering on a secret order of the Catholic Church formed to deal with a rise in demonic possessions. Pendejo (Pedro): A rich playboy is forced by his father into the lowest position of a company he technically owns. Alcatraz Prison Escape: Deathbed Confession (Narrator): The true story of what happened to the only escapees from Alcatraz prison. Strike One (Manny Garcia): A young boy in a gang-infested neighborhood has a former-gang-member uncle as a role model. The Insomniac (Jairo Torres): Following a break-in at his home a man develops insomnia and comes to learn the people he knows cannot be trusted. Death Race: Inferno (Goldberg): Trejo reprises his role from the first sequel of the remake. And that’s not all: Add to this glut an array of other “announced” projects in various stages of development, and Trejo may ultimately be involved with nearly two dozen titles over the next 12 months. Among those titles with the actor attached — but which remain unconfirmed and/or unproduced as of this writing — include Five Thirteen , Dead in Tombstone , Left Turn , Human Factor , Badass , Vengeance , Tarantula and Raggedy Anne . And of course there’s Machete Kills , shooting in April. At that rate Trejo could turn down half his roles and Burbank would experience a barista shortage from the bulk of actors who finally are able to find work. Brad Slager has written about movies and entertainment for Film Threat, Mediaite, and is a columnist at CHUD.com . His less insightful impressions on entertainment can be found on Twitter .

Man Who Beat His Mentally Disabled Wife To Death With Flashlight After She Tried To Murk Their Kids Was Sentenced 15-30 Years

What would you do if you came home to your wife attempting to kill your children??? A New Hampshire man was sentenced Friday to 15 to 30 years in prison for beating his mentally ill wife to death with a flashlight after he came home to find she had strangled their 4-year-old son with a ribbon and tried to kill their 7-year-old daughter. Christopher Smeltzer, 39, pleaded guilty to killing Mara Pappalardo, who was hospitalized several times for mental illness. Prosecutors say she was paranoid, obsessed with death and convinced her husband and mother-in-law were plotting to take her children away. Smeltzer initially was charged with second-degree manslaughter. Prosecutors at his plea hearing in October changed the charge to manslaughter by provocation in deference to the horrific scene that triggered his actions. The 90-minute sentencing took place in a Rockingham Superior courtroom. There was tension between members of Smeltzer’s family and his wife’s. And at one point, a member of her family shouted to Smeltzer that God will be the judge of his actions. Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said what happened at the Smeltzer home Nov. 7, 2010 “was simply a tragedy.” The voices of the two survivors of that tragedy — Smeltzer and his daughter — were heard publicly for the first time during Friday’s sentencing. A tape recording of Mercey reading a letter to the judge was played by her lawyer; the girl did not attend the hearing. Mercey’s young voice hushed the courtroom. “I am mad and sad that my Daddy killed my Mommy and brother Mason,” she says on the tape. The girl, who lives with one of her mother’s sisters, ends by saying, “Please keep him in jail for the rest of his life.” Young said Mercey’s statement contradicts what she said in the days after the attacks and to her counselor. Smeltzer said he wished he had a “rewind button” to go back and change what he did, including leaving his delusional wife to do cocaine and smoke crack with his friends. He came home, prosecutors say, to find his son strangled, his daughter dangling off the bed with a scarf wound around her neck and his wife in the throes of a suicide attempt. “As soon as I saw my son I knew something was very wrong,” Smeltzer said, choking with emotion. “I knew he was dead and I lost all control. Enraged, I struck my wife. I did something that was not going to bring my son back.” Smeltzer believed his daughter was dead as well. Prosecutors say toxicology tests confirm he took a large quantity of pills in an effort to take his own life. They say Mercey awakened him the next morning and asked if her mother and brother were breathing, and asked her father to make her some tea. Defense attorney John Newman asked the judge to impose a 7 1/2 to 10 year sentence, saying he could think of no greater provocation to manslaughter than Smeltzer picking up his dead son, putting his mouth to his son’s mouth only to find it ice cold. Wow there’s just too much wrong with this story we don’t know where to begin. At first, we felt bad for dude until we found out he left his wife home with the kids to go snort some yayo and suck on a glass d*ck. WTF?!?!?! Source

Alternative Jobs For Players During The NBA Lockout

See the original post here:

The NBA labor dispute is slowly, yet surely, amputating the 2011-12 basketball schedule of games. After the player’s union rejected the latest proposal offered by Commissioner David Stern and NBA owners earlier this week, all involved are left wondering what happens next. There is no end in sight. Games are cancelled through mid-December, and the possibility of any games being played this season is shaky at best. Considering the lifestyles many ballers are known to lead, along with reputations for being negligent in terms of managing finances, many players are definitely going to need a side hustle to keep those checks coming in. Here’s a short list of interim gigs for some of the NBA’s unemployed: Kris Humphries , Relationship Counselor : Don’t let the number fool you. In those 72 days as a married man, Kris Humphries gained more experience than some people who’ve been married twice as long, if not longer. Having communications problems in your relationship? Go see Kris. Trust issues? Kris is your man that can help. Now that he’s been released of his Kardashian lap dog duties, who better to give advice on what not to do?  Who else could lend a more sympathetic ear and help the two of you work through the ups and downs that all couples face? The one thing many seek in counseling is an empathetic voice of reason, and at this point, I don’t think anyone else in the world could feel your pain more than Kris Humphries. Dwayne Wade, Celebrity Manicurist/Pedicurist : D. Wade has the hot celebrity girlfriend in Gabrielle Union and has transitioned his style repertoire to that of elite status among fellow athletes. This was recently exemplified in the spread that he shot for the November issue of  GQ . Upon reading the article, though, Wade caught the public’s attention in revealing a surprise foot fetish of sorts. He actually stated that he once painted his toenails black. Make no confusion: there’s nothing wrong with male grooming in the form of mani/pedis. However, unless you are Lenny Kravitz, cease and desist on the black toenails—or any other color—immediately. Travel Tips: The Three Outfits Every Man Must Have Wade certainly raised more than a few eyebrows with this admission of sampling the latest hues of OPI products. But it also seems that somehow stumbled into a new professional calling to weather the lockout.  If all else fails, Dwayne Wade can become a licensed nail technician. South Beach is bound to offer a limitless market of clients, especially among his many celebrity friends. If Serena could get her license and work on Oprah’s feet, then why not Dwayne? Audrina Patridge, Miss J, Cee Lo Green Reminisce On ‘When I Was 17’

Stars remember meeting fashion designers and skipping school in latest episode. By Mawuse Ziegbe Cee Lo Green Photo: MTV Miss J is a beacon of fierceness for the droves of starry-eyed, wannabe catwalkers on “America’s Next Top Model.” But there was a time — way back when he was just a starry-eyed teenager — when the reality judge and runway coach didn’t even have the most rudimentary sense of the biggest movers and shakers in fashion. On the latest episode of “When I Was 17,” the style maven recalled heading to an open casting call for one of renowned French designer Jean-Paul Gaultier’s events — even though he had no idea who the sartorial master was. “I went to Bergdorf Goodman for the casting,” he said. “There was hundreds of people waiting. I thought to myself, ‘What’s gonna make me stand out?’ and I just thought, ‘Be yourself, personality.’ I had nothing else to sell.” Armed with his famously dramatic personality, Miss J sold it. He brought the attitude and booked the gig — despite leaving an important piece of his wardrobe at home. “When I got to see him, he said, ‘Hello.’ And I said, ‘Hello.’ He put me in clothing, and I remember I wasn’t wearing underwear that day. I wasn’t wearing panties, but I hid in the corner, put on the outfit and I put on this attitude… but I got the show.” When Cee Lo was 17, he had no trouble getting a job, and rotated through an array of random gigs. The “F— You” singer remembered one job, however, that got a little off track. “I remember one that was really funny — I worked in a warehouse where they were putting together the Frito-Lay variety boxes of chips,” The Lady Killer singer explained. “I was on the end and I would push them through the plastic part where they would kinda do the overlay of plastic. “One time I look back over the conveyor belt, and I just remember potato chips just falling all over the floor,” he says. And when the chips hit the ground, “Closet Freak” star decided it was time to make a run for it. “I was like, ‘Oh, no. I’m out!’ ” he said. “The Hills” good girl Audrina Patridge tended to stay out of trouble when she was 17, but she wasn’t able to resist a day spent lounging by the shore instead of hitting books. “One day, my friends and I decided to ditch school and go to the beach, and I wrote a fake note: ‘Please excuse Audrina Patridge. She wasn’t feeling well today. Any questions, call,’ ” Patridge recalled. “So I just ditched school and I went [to the beach], and our counselor at the time called my mom and asked where I was, and so she covered for me.” While mom stuck to Patridge’s lie, she didn’t let the episode slip under the rug. Instead, she exaggerated the fib so much that the “Dancing with the Stars” alum kind of wished she really was sick. “She told them that I was really, really sick and that I was throwing up, and she did it to embarrass me, because when they called me into the office the next day, I had to sit there in front of all of them and tell them that I was throwing up and that I had diarrhea and I had to stick to her story,” she remembered. “It was probably one of the last times I ever ditched — first and last.” “When I Was 17” airs Saturdays at 11 a.m. on MTV Related Videos When I Was 17 (Season 2) | Ep. 6 | Cee Lo Green, Miss J Alexander, Audrina Patridge Related Photos When I Was 17 (Season 2) | Ep. 6 | Cee Lo Green, Miss J Alexander, Audrina Patridge

Audrina Patridge Recalls Embarrassing Skip Day On ‘When I Was 17’

‘It was probably one of the last times I ever ditched,’ ‘Hills’ star says. By Jocelyn Vena Audrina Patridge Photo: MTV News Audrina Patridge always came off as one of the resident good girls during her time on “The Hills,” and as it turns out, when she was a teenager, she was pretty much a good girl too — except for that one time she tried to skip school. “One day, my friends and I decided to ditch school and go to the beach, and I wrote a fake note: ‘Please excuse Audrina Patridge. She wasn’t feeling well today. Any questions, call,’ ” Patridge said on the new episode of “When I Was 17” airing this weekend, which also features “America’s Next Top Model” judge Miss J and Cee Lo Green. “So I just ditched school and I went [to the beach], and our counselor at the time called my mom and asked where I was, and so she covered for me.” While it may have seemed nice for her mom to cover for her, it turns out there was a very memorable lesson to be learned. “She told them that I was really, really sick and that I was throwing up, and she did it to embarrass me, because when they called me into the office the next day, I had to sit there in front of all of them and tell them that I was throwing up and that I had diarrhea and I had to stick to her story,” the “Dancing With the Stars” alum recalled. “It was probably one of the last times I ever ditched — first and last.” Her pal Beau admitted that the punishment probably fit the crime. “Even though Audrina did good in school, she had her, like, adventurous side,” he explained. “Her mom covered for her, but she still got what was coming to her. It was probably pretty embarrassing for her.” “When I Was 17” — this week featuring Patridge, Miss J and Cee Lo — premieres Saturday at 11 a.m. on MTV.
