What Is Wrong With This Picture: Bloomberg Businessweek Magazine Cover Depicts Blacks & Latinos As Big-Lipped, Money Hungry Hoodrats

Bloomberg Businessweek Under Fire For Depiction Of Minorities Bloomberg Businessweek magazine has just taken things a little too far with their caricature depictions of minorities on the cover of their latest issue. In addition to the insulting illustration of minorities on the cover, even more shady is the fact that they used only blacks and Latinos as the face of a story on sub-prime borrowing and predatory lending, which clearly implies that minorities were primarily responsible for taking out loans that they could not afford to pay off……which eventually began the 2007 housing crisis that sparked the recent U.S. recession. via NBC News Bloomberg Businessweek has sparked a torrent of criticism after its cover depicted exaggerated cartoon versions of Latinos and blacks greedily grabbing for money for a story about a housing rebound across the country. “Oh wow, oh wow, that is very offensive,” said Aracely Panemeno, the director of Latino affairs for the Center for Responsible Lending, as she first opened up a photo of the cover on her computer. “It is highly offensive and inaccurate with an intent to promote and perpetuate the myth that communities of color were undeserving of the credit and housing they received and are to blame for the housing crisis, when in reality the opposite is true. They were targeted with predatory loans.” Representatvies for the magazine later apologized for the over, but the damage is obviously already done. Bloomberg Businessweek tells NBC Latino it regrets the cover, dated February 25. “Our cover illustration last week got strong reactions, which we regret,” said editor, Josh Tyrangiel in a statement. “Our intention was not to incite or offend. If we had to do it over again we’d do it differently.” SMH. You would think publications like this one would know better……but of course, they don’t.

Kate Gosselin Sort of Slams Kendra Wilkinson on Celebrity Wife Swap

Watching Kate Gosselin and Kendra Wilkinson trade lives for a day on Celebrity Wife Swap felt oddly like old times. You know, when they were on TV a lot. As a single mother of eight children, it was kind of a total cakewalk for Kate to slip into Kendra’s life – one child, a husband present, a full-time nanny even. Kate Gosselin on Celebrity Wife Swap Still, all Kate seemed to see were examples of how Kendra is not that great of a mother, and lazy to boot. She didn’t hold back at all about her experiences. “Imagine my surprise, then, when I arrived at your house and discovered you have one child. It was a very unique experience to sort of do nothing,” Kate said. Later, she told her CWS counterpart, “Reading your manual made me believe that you just let everybody else do everything because you don’t care.” This reduced Kendra to tears. Jeez, Kate, tell us how you really feel! Sure, a vintage Kate Gosselin meatloaf recipe feeds eight mouths, but she may want to sprinkle in a little compassion. Watch some clips of the duo above – on the show and discussing it on The View – and tell us if you think the former Mrs. Jon Gosselin is being too harsh.

Michelle Obama Oscars Dress: Altered By Iranian TV!

Michelle Obama’s Oscars dress (by Naeem Khan) wasn’t particularly risque by U.S. standards … but in Iran, well, that sort of thing is JUST NOT OKAY! Fars News, a TV network in Iran, edited the First Lady’s dress in a story about her Academy Awards appearance posted on their website (see below). Note the digitally added sleeves and neckline. Oh, you clever Tehran TV editors. Good job shielding Iranian viewers from Michelle’s provocative outfit. Fars News states that Obama, who handed out the Best Picture award, was used as a prop simply because the winner was “the anti-Iranian film Argo .” Iranian Culture Minister Mohammad Hosseini lambasted it, saying, “The movie is an anti-Iran film. It is not a valuable film from the artistic point of view.” “It won the prize by resorting to extended advertisement and investment.” No word if they also altered Ben Affleck’s Oscar speech . Kinda awkward. In any case, Hosseini said America and specifically Hollywood has “distorted history” as part of what Iran calls a “soft war” of cultural influence against Iran. Another Iranian official labeled Argo “an advertisement for the CIA.” The semiofficial Mehr news agency called the 2013 Academy Awards ‘ top prize was “politically motivated,” citing the First Lady’s presentation of the award. Iranian officials have repeatedly criticized the Ben Affleck film, which has not been screened in any Iranian theaters (yet is readily available in pirated form). Still, Iranian officials were not the only ones to criticize Michelle Obama . The surprising presenter, appearing via satellite, instantly drew head shakes and groans from journalists who questioned the merits of such a stunt. “This makes no sense, it adds nothing to the show,” one was quoted as saying, while another surmised the whole thing as something of a “suck job.” “They threw all the campaign parties, I guess it was Hollywood’s way of acknowledging their continued love and support of the Obamas,” said another. To an extent, this is probably true, albeit not altogether surprising. She did look great, though, especially minus the extra “coverage.” Welcome to Michelle’s gun show, Iran. You and your nuclear ambitions can suck on that.

Dylan Moses, 8th Grade Football Player, Offered SEC Scholarships

How young is too young? That’s a question being bantered about these days in college football, as the top programs in the country have offered scholarships to Dylan Moses. He’s an eighth grader in Baton Rouge. Dylan Moses Highlights Moses weighs 215 pounds and stands over six feet tall. He runs a 4.46 40 and possesses an insane 34-inch vertical. All at 14 years of age! As a result, SEC powers Alabama and LSU have both offered Moses an athletic scholarship, which have sent shockwaves through the college sports world. The offers, it should be noted, are not binding in any way. Nor is this the first time such an act has taken place, as Wake Forest offered quarterback Chris Leak the same type of deal many years ago when he was in middle school. But should such a practice exist? Should universities really be recruiting in middle schools around the country?!? Let the debate begin!

Race Matters: Harry Belafonte Says Blacks Should Be More Outraged Over One-Sided Gun Control Conversation

Harry is mad as hell and he’s not gonna take it anymore! Harry Belafonte Says Blacks Should Be Outraged With Gun Control The debate over gun control has been red-hot in America ever since the Sandy Hook school shooting back in December . In the wake of the unconscionable tragedy, the national spotlight shined bright on the issue of gun control and ways to make the country safer. According to Harry Belafonte , the group that suffers the most from gun violence are young African-American children. However, the national media attention fails to reflect how shootings have affected our communities, like the city of Chicago . During his acceptance speech of NAACP’s highest honor, The Springard Medal, Belafonte took time out to push his agenda. Via DemocracyNow “The group that is most devastated by America’s obsession with the gun is African-Americans. Although making comparisons can be dangerous, there are times when they must be noted. America has the largest prison population in the world and the over 2 million men, women, and children that make up the incarcerated, the overwhelming majority of them is black. African-Americans are the most unemployed, the most caught in the unjust systems of justice. And the gun game, they are the most hunted. The rivers of blood that wash the streets of our nation flow mostly from the bodies of our black children. Yet, as the great debate emerges on the question of the gun, white America discusses the constitutional issues of ownership while no one speaks to the consequences of our racial carnage. Where is the outraged voice of black America? Where and why are we muted? Where are our leaders? Where are our legislators? Where is the church …” Handgun hatin’ Harry has a point. We watch these crazy, “ketchup-colored”-neck, country bumpkins rant and rave about how they have a right to own guns every week. We already know they could give two $#!ts about “ni**er” kids dying… Image via zimbio
