On the ABC Upfront party red carpet this week, John Legend – one of the four singers who will be teaming up with amateurs across the country on the new singing competition – was asked about the new X Factor judges, Britney Spears and Demi Lovato , and replied: “You know it’s interesting. It should be very interesting. I don’t have much to say,” Legend told E! News. “It’s interesting when people, you know, are judging singing competitions when they aren’t really singers.” Ouch! Interesting is one diplomatic word for it, yes. Robin Thicke, who will also appear on Duets , gave the young ladies some credit at least: “Oh come on, everything Britney does, she excels at. Demi is a lovely young lady, and I’m sure they’ll do nothing but make the show a lot more fun to watch.” Which of these X Factor judges has you most excited?

Singer’s donation to Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum is second largest in Nashville museum’s history. By John Mitchell Taylor Swift Photo: Getty Images Taylor Swift has a reputation for being a good girl with a big heart, and when you pair that with her sizable bank account, you get one very large charitable donation that will benefit music education for both children and senior citizens. The six-time Grammy winner has donated $4 million to the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville to fund what will now be known as the Taylor Swift Education Center, an exhibit and classroom space scheduled to open in 2014. “In terms of what it will allow us to do, we do education very well now,” museum director Kyle Young told the Associated Press (via Billboard ). “It will allow us to do what we do better, serve more people, develop new programs, and I’m happy to say that as we talked through this opportunity with Taylor, she very much wants to be involved in an advisory capacity in what we do. Is there a better person out there who’s in touch with a young audience? I think not. I was joking we should be paying her to do that. I was only joking.” Swift’s donation is the second largest ever gifted to the museum and is the largest given by a musician. The country-pop megastar has a long history with the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. She signed her record contract there and gave one of her first public performances on the building’s plaza. In the past, she has also volunteered her time to the museum’s “All for the Hall” fundraisers. The Taylor Swift Education Center is part of a larger $75 million expansion of the Hall of Fame that will more than double the size of the museum and include a new concert theater and more space for exhibits and archives. The planned education center will be more than 7,500 square feet spread over two stories. It will have its own exterior entrance that will lead to three classrooms and exhibit space. The expansion will allow the museum to dramatically increase its youth education programs, with plans for it to house a “musical petting zoo” and an art classroom where children can make concert posters and other art projects. Made in America festival curator says, ‘What people do in their own homes is their business, and you can choose to love whoever you love.’ By Jocelyn Vena Jay-Z Photo: Gilbert Carrasquillo/ Getty Images Jay-Z has long backed President Obama, and after last week’s headline-making news that Obama supports same-sex marriage , the hip-hop mogul is applauding the president for breaking new ground and helping bring progress in the gay-rights movement. “I’ve always thought it as something that was still holding the country back,” Jay-Z told CNN in Philadelphia, where he announced the launch of the Made in America festival . “What people do in their own homes is their business, and you can choose to love whoever you love. That’s their business. It’s no different than discriminating against blacks. It’s discrimination, plain and simple.” Asked whether the declaration would cost Obama votes among religious African-Americans in his re-election bid, Hov said, “It’s really not about votes. It’s about people,” adding, “I think it’s the right thing to do as a human being.” Jay is hardly the first celebrity to come out in support of Obama’s comments. Everyone from “Jersey Shore” stars Snooki and JWoww to “Vampire Diaries” actress Nina Dobrev and boy banders the Wanted have all backed Obama. “It was definitely happy news, but I almost don’t want to applaud him too much, because I wish he would have done this a long time ago,” Perez Hilton told MTV News. “Having said that, it’s better that he did it than not. He could have waited until after the election. ‘The Houston Family Chronicles,’ which will feature Bobbi Kristina Brown and Cissy Houston, premieres on Lifetime later this year. Titled “The Houston Family Chronicles,” the show will feature Houston’s daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and mother Cissy Houston, though the focus will be on “The Bodyguard” superstar’s brother Gary Houston and sister-in-law and manager Pat Houston, as well as their daughter, Rayah. Houston’s cousin Dionne Warwick and Bobbie Kristina’s godmother, gospel legend CeCe Winans, will also appear in the series. According to Lifetime, the reality show will focus on Pat and Gary “as they take on their greatest challenge, supporting and guiding Bobbi Kristina as she faces the world alone, without the one person she relied on the most, her mother.” Whitney Houston died on February 11 of this year at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The L.A. County coroner ruled that accidental drowning was the official cause of Houston’s death, adding that cocaine use and heart disease were contributing factors. The report indicated traces of cocaine were found in Houston’s system at the time of death along with Xanax, Flexeril, marijuana and Benadryl, though officials said these substances played no role in her untimely passing. “The tragic loss of Whitney Houston left a void in the hearts of people all over the world, but certainly none more so than her beloved family,” Rob Sharenow, executive vice president of programming at Lifetime Networks, said in a statement. “In this series, the multi-generations of the Houston family will bravely reveal their lives as they bond together to heal, love, and grow.” Lifetime has ordered 10 hour-long episodes of “The Houston Family Chronicles” and will premiere the show at a yet-undetermined time later this year. According to Pat Houston, the show had been in the works well before Whitney’s death. “I have been working with Simmons-Shelley [production company] over the past few years developing a project suitable for myself and our family,” Pat Houston said. “The unexpected passing of Whitney certainly affects the direction of the show.
