Global Grind’s bullies, DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius are back once again for another episode of  The Rewind . Just in case you’re new here, Every week we get our experts to discuss the cultural happenings of the last week. They’ll take some time to explain what you may have missed, offer their expert insight and then when they’re all done, rate them from a 1-10. In case you have been living under a rock,  The Rewind  will always be here to get you right. Today, Landon Levarius and DJ Franchise  (aka The Family Guy and The Bully)  are bringing the savagery! That’s right, we’re talking about 21 Savage’s latest album, I Am > I Was (I Am Greater Than I Was). This is 21 Savage’s second studio album and was released on December 21, 2018 … get it, December 21, like 21 Savage! The album features appearances by Travis Scott, J. Cole, Offset, Childish Gambino, City Girls, and Post Malone just to name a few. “A Lot,” the album’s lead single, was co-produced by DJ Dahi and Bodak Yellow producer J. White. It also contains a sample from “I Love You for All Seasons” by The Fuzz. Upon the release of I Am Greater Than I Was , fans seemed to be quite impressed. Online reviews began pouring in and it appeared that everyone was quite pleased with 21 Savage’s growth and development on this project. The album was undoubtedly well received and debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 for the first chart of the year. This was also 21 Savage’s first ever number one album, selling 131,000 in its first week. DJ Franchise and Landon Levarius jumped right into talking about the album. Landon, being the Atlanta native that he is, was very excited to talk about the project. He discusses attending 21 Savage’s album listening experience in Glenwood and truly dissects the theme of the album. Do you think our resident bully DJ Franchise was feeling it? Nick Cannon thinks Travis Scott is a traitor to his race because he got Kylie Jenner pregnant. Okay, that isn’t entirely true: Nick Cannon thinks Travis Scott is a traitor to his race partially because he got Kylie Jenner pregnant. While appearing on BET’s Raq Rants this week, Cannon took Scott to task for a couple decisions he recently made as an African-American. In short, the America’s Got Talent host thinks the rapper has no appreciation for his culture. One basis for this conclusion is Scott agreeing to perform at halftime of next month’s Super Bowl alongside Maroon 5 and Big Boi. Scott had previously received flak for this move from Al Sharpton , who slammed the artist for supporting a league (the NFL) that has cast out someone protesting civil rights injustices in America (Colin Kaepernick). Kaepernick is the former 49ers quarterback who remains under for kneeling during the national anthem in order to call attention to police brutality in this country. “I’m team Kaepernick all day,” Cannon said on BET, explaining why he’s not angry at Big Boi for the planned Super Bowl halftime show, at least not compared to his feelings on Scott: “To me, I call it cultural equity. So, we’re not mad at Big Boi for being on the Super Bowl – he’s for the people. But for someone like Travis Scott, he’s got to walk gingerly.” Ouch , huh? Cannon is doing everything here but calling Scott an “Uncle Tom,” and a major reason for doing so apparently is the child Scott produced by sleeping with Jenner. “It’s more about truly having integrity to who you are in your music, your art form, the people you choose to interact with, the people you choose to procreate with,” Cannon explained. “That decision [to have a baby with Jenner] wasn’t for the culture, but we not mad at you.” Wasn’t for the culture . That’s definitely a new take. ONE, how many people out there have kids with their “culture” in mind? TWO, Scott most definitely did not plan to have little Stormi. The pregnancy was an accident. Cannon, who dated Kim Kardashian way back in the day, was put on the spot in this interview about his past dating white women — and he responded as follows: “I love white women, let’s set the record straight. But that’s the thing, it’s cultural equity at the end of the day.” We’re not saying anything more here about the weird pregnancy take, but for the record: Billboard reported last week that Scott agreed to perform at the Super Bowl in Atlanta only after the NFL agreed to donate $500,000 to an organization called Dream Corps, which fights for social justice. Aware of the criticism that has come his way, Scott recently released a statement that reads: I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in. I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.

SMH: CBS Rejects Super Bowl Ad Calling For The Legalization of Medical Marijuana

Source: MediaNews Group/Boulder Daily Camera via Getty Images / Getty Super Bowl Commercial For Medical Marijuana Shut Down Though The NFL and the Super Bowl in particular are known for running huge ads about alcohol, it looks like they’re not quite ready to put their money behind medical marijuana . According to reports from  Bloomberg , Acreage Holdings claims that  CBS  cut a medical marijuana ad from the televised portion of the Super Bowl after viewing a rough outline of the commercial. The multi-state marijuana company tells the publication that the goal of the advertisement was to “create an advocacy campaign for constituents who are being lost in the dialogue” and thought that the most-watched event of the year could help push this same narrative. Although medical marijuana is legal in over 30 states as of now, federal restrictions hinder many from actually obtaining their cannabis. Let’s look at Oklahoma, for example. Even though medical marijuana is legal in the state, the  Tulsa World  reports that it is against the law for a doctor to actually prescribe the substance. This is due to the fact that marijuana is still classified by the federal government as a schedule one controlled substance–which means doctors are prohibited from discussing strains and dosages with their patients as that would be considered aiding and abetting, which is punishable by law. These nuanced–and quite frankly, confusing–difficulties that occur around the country are the reason that many feel the commercial would have been informative and beneficial airing during the Super Bowl. Now, fans are calling out the league’s hypocrisy for choosing not to air the ad because, like we mentioned before, the big game is known for giving tons of air time to beer. And we all know network television has no problem airing commercials for prescription drugs. So the game sponsored by the alcohol industry that consists of people beating the crap out of each other and which turns a blind eye to domestic violence now has the moral high ground to decide that a little green plant used for medicine is too much for viewers to handle. Several museums are open for today’s 2019 King holiday and several are offering free admission to furloughed federal employees. Louisville International Airport To Be Named After Muhammad Ali

T he late legendary boxer and social activist Muhammad Ali will receive a major honor from his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. According to the Courier Journal , the city will rename Louisville International Airport after Ali. Muhammad Ali's Kentucky hometown will honor the boxing champion by renaming its airport for him. He would have turned 77 Thursday. https://t.co/9PUbEklUHL — ABC 7 News – WJLA (@ABC7News) January 17, 2019 The push to have the airport renamed after the boxer began in 2017, the news outlet writes. The plan was recently approved by the Louisville Regional Airport Authority board. Once airport officials finalize the plan with Muhammad Ali Enterprises LLC within the next few weeks, the project will officially be brought to fruition. The renaming is a part of a $100 million plan to improve the airport. Within the span of three to five years, the airport will get a new terminal, walkways, elevators and jet ways. Officials are aiming to have the airport renamed by June, which will mark three years since he passed away. “We felt a clear takeaway was that the profile of our city could be greatly enhanced by associating Ali’s name with our airport,” said Louisville Regional Airport Authority board member Dale Boden . He also shared that the city is making a major effort to illustrate how Ali was embedded in the fabric of Louisville through different tributes. Ali’s loved ones are excited about the airport renaming. “I am happy that visitors from far and wide who travel to Louisville will have another touch point to Muhammad and be reminded of his open and inclusive nature, which is reflective of our city,” his widow Lonnie Ali told the news outlet. “Muhammad was a global citizen, but he never forgot the city that gave him his start. It is a fitting testament to his legacy.” News about the Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport comes just weeks after it was revealed that at-large Councilwoman Sharon Hurt is fighting to have Nashville International Airport named after media mogul Oprah Winfrey . Henson has hit a major career milestone. According to Essence , Henson will be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Walk of Fame representatives say that the honor is well-deserved as Henson has played pivotal roles in films and on television. “Taraji P Henson is a powerful woman and a powerful actress.  She is an entertainer that fans cannot take their eyes off of due to her great acting ability,” said Walk of Fame producer Ana Martinez , according to the news outlet. “We welcome her bright star on our Walk of Fame.” Henson recently took to Instagram to share her excitement. “This is for those lovely scary nay sayers who doubted me!!!! Welp I had a dream aaaaaannnnnnnd thank GOD I used all of your doubt to propel me to my greatness!!!,” she wrote. “I love you and I needed you!!!!” Her movie What Men Want is slated to be released on February 8. Everytime someone speaks out about her beloved Donald Trump, her republican senses start to tingle and her Twitter fingers get to tweeting. Tomi’s latest attempt to defend her President and the ridiculous government shutdown almost got her dog walked by Cardi B . Lahren bashed Belcalis about her commentary on the Federal Shutdown and the stupid wall, writing: “Looks like @iamcardib is the latest genius political mind to endorse the Democrats. HA! Keep it up, guys! #MAGA2020” But of course, Cardi let her have it! The rapper replied: “You’re so blinded with racism that you don’t even realize the decisions the president you root for is destroying the country you claim to love so much .You are a perfect example on no matter how educated or smart you think you are you still a SHEEP!” Big facts! Speaking of racism and being blinded, let’s not forget that Obama-hating Tomi still benefits from Obamacare. During a heated discussion at Politicon with Chelsea Handler in 2017, the Trump supporter slandered the 2010 health care act but admitted that she is still on her parent’s health insurance —which is a benefit of Obamacare. Chelsea asked, “Do you have a healthcare plan or no?”, to which Tomi replied, “Luckily, I’m 24, so I am still on my parents’.”   As one tweeter perfectly pointed out: “Tomi Lahren admitting her parents still pay for her health insurance shows why this baby is an idiot. Nothing in Tomi Lahren’s personal life shows she is a “conservative.  She was on parent’s Obamacare.  Went to a Public college.  Had an abortion.  Bisexual  “Twerk god.” She just talks racist shit and is blonde. This isn’t the first time Tomi was slammed for her contradicting views. Back in March 2017, the idiotic commentator was fired from hosting The Blaze for allegedly insulting conservatives by saying she was pro-choice. “Weird that Fox News would hire Tomi Lahren being she is very pro-choice and got attacked for it by others in the right-wing.” @Kaidinn pointed out.
