Net Neutrality And How It Affects The Black Community

See the rest here:

Source: Westend61 / Getty @Kyled_kid  blessed the timeline with a lesson on the importance of protecting Net Neutrality. Text: “RESIST” to 50409 In the poll I posted yesterday more than 50% said they didn't know about Net Neutrality rules or only read a little on it.. so let's go over this first. #NetNeutrality — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 When you log into your computer or phone on a daily basis, it's almost second nature for you to connect to the internet. You expect for this to happen since you paid for this service. You know that since you paid your cable or phone bill, you are entitled to full internet access. — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 #NetNeutrality in a sense puts us in control of what we see on the internet. It's the basic principle impressed upon the FCC (Federal Communication Commission) that prohibits them from slowing down, speeding up, blocking any content, apps, or websites for our use. — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 But recently Trump's appointed FCC chairman, Ajit Pai, wants to have this plan removed enforcing a internet-killing plan. If this goes into place here are some expected consequences: — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 Which internet provider (Cable and/ or Phone company) do you and your family have a plan with? — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 Did you know that all companies listed about will now have full access to charging you for extra data to gain access internet content? Same thing for apps as well for all my Netflix, Pandora, Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal users. #NetNeutrality — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 2. Downfall for Small Business: Small businesses in general but in this case black small business would not be able to compete on a internet without Net Neutrality. With larger corporations now in charge of approving and denying internet content, they can overshadow S Businesses. — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 In turn, economic disparities within our community with deepen even more. It's critical that small businesses have full, free access to the internet to create a market, advertise and sell their products. They deserve to reach more customers too. — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 3. Less Consumer Options: With #NetNeutrality in place this allows top companies to block you from seeing any competing companies websites in an effort to stop you from finding a better deal. — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 4. Censorship: Political views that may be contrary to what our country or Trump's administration believes may be blocked from the internet. If you are against our government, we may not even be able to hear your voice anymore. (Pay attention: Black people) #NetNeutrality — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 So now how it affects black people… *cough cough* let's get started… #NetNeutrality — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 Since we have moved into this new age of technology, the internet for POC has served as a platform for us to express social issues, demand racial and social justice for all. — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 Without net neutrality, companies could block speech and prevent us from freely speaking online. In sum, blacks would lose their voices and Social Activism will cease to exist. I.E. no more #blacklivesmatter #NetNeutrality — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 What can we do now? FCC Chairman will vote December 14th on his Net-Neutrality killing plan. It's vital for the future of the internet to vote and spread this thread. In 2 days, the face of our country will change as we know it. The internet will become a commodity over necessity — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 For my folks that like a visual breakdown, this is basically what's going to happen. #NetNeutrality pic.twitter.com/askOdPFbxf — Kyle D. Kidd (@kyled_kidd) December 13, 2017 Don't wake up December 14th mad when you see this when you trying get on @instagram @Twitter or @facebook ! #netneutrality pic.twitter.com/13R2WKpnuJ — Kyle D. Net Neutrality And How It Affects The Black Community

The Voice Recap: A Surprise Guest Appears

The Top 11 performed on the latest episode of The Voice, and Gwen Stefani made a surprise appearance.  During the commercials, she started taking pictures with Blake, and it was all then shown on live TV. Yes, it all took place during a split screen, so there really is no hiding from the cameras.  Back to the performances. There were some real shockers, and we have all the details below! Janice Freeman – “Shine” by Collective Soul Janice’s performances have been a bit all over the place throughout the season, and this one was no different. One second she can have the best voice around, and then she starts shouting, and it ruins the whole thing.  Shaky performances are not good because they can be a sign that the person is just too nervous to own a song, and that could be her ultimate undoing. Red Marlowe – “The Dance” by Garth Brooks Red likes to show off his country voice, but this was not the best song to do it. The performance was average at best, and he struggled to hit some of the lower notes, and that’s a bit alarming.  As a whole, it was decent because it was just the low notes he struggled with, but it should be a cautionary tale for him to choose the right song in the future.  Shi’Ann Jones – “Listen” by Beyoncé Performing a Beyoncé is no easy feat, but this was a surprisingly convincing rendition. There were shaky vocals here and there, but for the most part, it was solid, and it should keep her fighting in the competition for another week.  Adam Cunningham – “American Girl” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers With the instant save saving Adam last week, the artist had to switch things up this week to garner some more votes. Thankfully, he delivered a rendition that was one of his best to date.  He really went back to the drawing board because he knew it was time to fix his vocals.  Brooke Simpson – “What About Us” by Pink This should have been another excellent performance for Brooke, but there were some issues, and it was difficult to hear any of the vocals. This will not bode well when it comes to voting.  Davon Fleming – “I Have Nothing” by Whitney Houston Who would have thought Davon would go with a Whitney song and make the judges putty in his hands? It was a phenomenal rendition that immediately put him up the food chain.  Ashland Craft – “Chicken Fried” by Zac Brown Band Ashland went all out for her latest performance, and you could tell she had taken all the feedback on board. The whole package was great, and she should have no trouble staying in the competition.  Addison Agen – “A Case of You” by Joni Mitchell Changing a song up is part of the game, and Addison did just that during the live show and it benefited her. With some high notes thrown in for good measure, it was one of her best performances yet.  Keisha Renee – “It Matters to Me” by Faith Hill Keisha’s performance left a lot to be desired. Her vocals to date have been astounding, but this song was not the best one to show them off. Generally, she is one of the best of the night, but this was her worst night of the season.  Noah Mac – “Electric Love” by BØRNS Woah! Noah turned in a stunning rendition that practically saw him parading across the stage! Everything about this was something you would expect from a recording artist, so that’s pretty good. If he winds up in danger tonight, then there will be trouble.  Chloe Kohanski – “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by Bonnie Tyler Chloe saved the best for last. Her performance defined the whole night and proved it was time for the others to step it up or go home.  “Ladies and gentlemen, Chloe just set the bar,” said Blake after hearing it.  Okay, so that’s a wrap on the Top 11 performances! Who do you think will go home? Sound off below! View Slideshow: The Voice Winners: RANKED!

Meghan Markle Not The First Person Of African Heritage To Join Royal Family?

Continued here:

M eghan Markle  will officially join the royal family as Prince Harry ‘s wife, according to several reports. The news of the forthcoming nupitals is significant for myriad reasons: the potential for the family to have a greater worldwide influence, the possibility of carrying on their bloodlines and believable increases in the royals’ diplomatic relationships. Perhaps the most important point is that Markle, who stars on USA Network’s Suits , will represent her African heritage as a member of the royal family. Markle may draw similarities to iconic figures who some historians believe were African, including Queen Charlotte . Black people in the U.S. and Britain have long talked about Charlotte, known to history as the wife of the English King George III (1738-1820). She is a direct descendant of Margarita de Castro y Sousa , a black branch of the Portuguese Royal House, according to  Mario de Valdes y Cocom , a historian of the African diaspora chronicled by PBS . Valdes y Cocum believes Castro y Sousa’s ancestry is traced back from the 13th-century ruler Alfonso III and his lover Madragana, who is said to have been a Moor and thus a black African. Other historians have disputed Valdes y Cocom’s reasoning, but the questions arising from his research are alluring. If Queen Charlotte was African, then there is the possibility of having a royal family full of Black members becomes more real. As the possibility becomes more imagined, the subject of racism moves more to the forefront. Allegations of racism against Blacks were raised about Queen Elizabeth by Sir Roy Strong,  former director for the National Portrait Gallery in London, according to UK’s The Times . Strong, a diarist who documented his relations with the royal family for decades, described one encounter with the matriarch. ‘I can remember the Queen Mother came to lunch at Ham House, which was a branch of the V&A, and she said, ‘I will bring the liquid refreshment’, and we all knew what that meant,” recounted Strong. “Suddenly in the middle of lunch, I was on the left of her I think, and the Queen was in Africa at the time, and the Queen Mother leant over to me and said, ‘Beware the blackamoors’. I thought, ‘I can’t put that down, it’s too awful.’” The dark shadows of racism in the UK, like that in the U.S., will not stop people from celebrating Markle and Harry’s engagement. “The mixed-race population in the UK is the fastest-growing ethnic group and it’s lovely to see couples like ourselves reflected in the royal family,” a woman identified by only her first name, Rosa, who is Black, said to The Guardian . “No doubt closet racists will be upset, but Harry himself comes from mixed stock, so they’ll have to get over it… I hope their union chips away at some of the latent prejudice in this country, where people bemoan “PC culture” because they’ve been deprived of the right to use racist language as they used to.” SOURCE:  The Times , The Guardian SEE ALSO: Prince Harry Makes First Public Appearance With Meghan Markle In Toronto Prince Harry Comes Out Swinging In Defense Of Girlfriend Meghan Markle [ione_media_gallery src=”https://newsone.com” id=”3418306″ overlay=”true”]

Gal Gadot is a Mossad Agent of the Day

I didn’t read all this, but apparently there’s a conspiracy around Gal Gadot, your Wonder Woman, because of Israel. They are saying that she’s a Mossad secret agent, which would explain why she’s got famous, because why the fuck would anyone give her fame unless there was some Israel based conspiracy….. I just assumed it was Jewish guilt from the producers….who hired an Israeli girl since she fought for their country…while they were in Beverly Hills sitting by the pool on a pile of money… But here’s some angling they are putting out on her to make her Wonder Woman seem more legit… Here’s the story, that’s probably just a story…. The paper, a daily known as Al Liwaa, published an image of Gadot on their front page Monday, claiming in a report (via The Times of Israel), that she was actually Collette Vianfi, an agent from Israel’s international spy agency who was allegedly recruited to work with Lebanese actor and playwright Ziad Itani, who was arrested on Friday on charges of “collaborating” with Israel and gathering information about political figures. Gadot has not commented yet on the claims that she is Vianfi, or a member of the Israeli National Intelligence Agency. Gadot was crowned as Miss Israel back in 2004. She did serve a compulsory two year stint in the Israeli Defense Forces afterwards. She later went on to star as Gisele in “Fast & Furious,” “Fast Five” and “Furious 7,” and as Natalie Jones in “Keeping Up with the Joneses.” She has become a bigger Hollywood name in the last year for her role as Wonder Woman…blah blah blah….who cares…

David Cassidy Dies; Singer and Former Patridge Family Star Was 67

David Cassidy, the popular folk singer and former star of The Patridge Family, passed away today at a hospital in Florida. He was 67 years old. Said the star’s family via statement tonight: On behalf of the entire Cassidy family, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, our uncle, and our dear brother, David Cassidy. David died surrounded by those he loved, with joy in his heart and free from the pain that had gripped him for so long. Thank you for the abundance and support you have shown him these many years.” The artist was rushed to said hospital late last week due to organ failure, with multiple outlets writing that he required a near-immediate kidney transplant to survive. He was initially placed in a medically-induced coma, although sources said he was later drifting in and out of consciousness before the end arrived. Cassidy was moved to the intensive care unit on Sunday as his condition worsened. Cassidy rose to fame as Keith Patridge, the son of Shirley Partridge, on the beloved 1970s sitcom The Partridge Family. The series centered on a family of musicians and propelled David to teenage superstardom. He was one of the most popular singers in the country forty-plus years ago; you could almost refer to him as the Justin Bieber of his era, considering his fame among young women at the time. Cassidy later enjoyed a career in both acting and music, only recently retiring from the entertainment field. Throughout his career, however, Cassidy struggled with alcohol abuse issues that resulted in drunk driving arrests in 2010, 2013 and 2014, along with a stint in rehab. He filed for bankruptcy in 2015. In February of this year, Cassidy also opened up about his battle with dementia. “I was in denial, but a part of me always knew this was coming,” Cassidy told People Magazine , shortly after he forgot lyrics to a few songs during a live performance in California. He told the publication that his mother also struggled with this tragic mental disorder. It was due to this diagnosis that Cassidy stopped going on tour. “I want to focus on what I am, who I am and how I’ve been without any distractions,” Cassidy said several months ago, adding; “I want to love. I want to enjoy life.” Insiders say Cassidy was surrounded by loved ones when he passed away. The late star appeared on The Partridge Family for four years alongside Danny Bonaduce, who released the following statement back when Cassidy confessed to his dementia: “David Cassidy once had a bigger fan club than Elvis & the Beatles. If you’re a fan, now is a great time to send him your love & best wishes.” The same now applies in the wake of Cassidy’s death, in regard to the singer/actor’s friends, family members and loved ones. May David Cassidy rest in peace. View Slideshow: Celebrities Who Died in 2017: In Memoriam

Mike Tyson Sent Back To US After Chile Denies Entry

Read the original here:

SANTIAGO, Chile (AP) — Chilean authorities say they’ve denied former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson entry to the country and are sending him back to the U.S. Chile’s equivalent of the FBI said Thursday that Tyson doesn’t meet requirements for entry, apparently due to his criminal record. Tyson served three years of a six-year sentence in the 1990s for raping a teenage beauty-pageant contestant. He also has been convicted of assault and cocaine possession. The Chilean Police of Investigations also said in a tweet that Interpol agents would escort him to a flight back to the U.S. in the evening. Tyson came to Chile to take part in a promotional event for a TV channel. In 2013, he was forced to scrap promotional appearances in London because the convictions barred him from entering Britain. Documentary Shames Tobacco Industry For Targeting The Black Community

See more here:

T he tobacco industry’s scheme to get Black people addicted to menthol cigarettes was highlighted in “ Black Lives/Black Lungs ,” a new documentary about the dangers of the flavored smokes, the Spokane Spokesman reported. Nine out of 10 Black smokers prefer menthol cigarettes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention . Filmmaker Lincoln Mondy , 23, examined the menthol cigarette advertising blitz that began since the 1950s. As a bi-racial child, Mondy said he noticed his White relatives tended to smoke non-menthol cigarettes and used chewing tobacco. On the other side of the family, his Black relatives used menthol cigarettes exclusively. Sen. Ed Markey calling for ban on menthol cigarettes, arguing tobacco ads target African-Americans. https://t.co/8KQ0ngBeCr pic.twitter.com/70hFiZFzG6 — WBZ Boston News (@cbsboston) August 26, 2017 The tobacco industry’s strategy included giving money to Black politicians, scholarships to African-American students and support for Black cultural events, Mondy’s film also revealed. The consequences have been devastating. African-Americans die from diseases related to tobacco use at a higher rate than Whites, even though Blacks smoke fewer cigarettes and start smoking at an older age than White people do, according to the CDC. Cigarette makers are not the only industry under fire for targeting the Black community. Earlier this year, two pastors from the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit in D.C. Superior Court against Coca-Cola and the American Beverage Association, CBS News reported. According to the ministers, the soda industry shares a huge part of the responsibility for the diabetes epidemic that has swept through minority communities because the industry targets African-Americans and Hispanics.
