Spelman College Wins 30th Annual Honda Campus All-Star Challenge (HCASC), America’s Premier HBCU Academic Competition https://t.co/UC9mDBNbJX — HBCU Buzz (@HBCUBuzz) April 18, 2019 During the tournament—which is known as the nation’s top HBCU academic competition—students are quizzed on topics that include history, religion, science and culture. The Spelman team—whose players included Ariana Benson , Jessika Agyepong , Naomi Steplight , and Maati McKinney —beat 47 other HBCUs to take home the title. Daniel Bascelli served as the team’s coach. “Winning itself isn’t the only reward. It’s about bringing these students together and watching them represent their school in the best possible way,” Bascelli said in a statement, according to the news outlet. “The spirit at Spelman is really strong. If you talk to the students, the feeling for Spelman, the feeling for HCBCUs and the support that Honda gives them is all a part of the pride that they feel.” Florida A&M University, Jackson State University and Morehouse College rounded out the top four. The competition, which has been in existence for 30 years, was created as an avenue for Honda to make an impact in the lives of students who attend historically Black colleges and universities. “Through HCASC, students are given an opportunity to demonstrate the value of their HBCU experience, represent their schools on a national stage, and connect with like-minded peers,” Steve Morikawa , VP of Corporate Relations and Social Responsibility, American Honda, said in a statement. “We look forward to celebrating the HCASC legacy and the friendships we’ve made over the past 30 years.” Through the competition, Honda has awarded $8 million in grants to HBCUs and 125,000 students have participated. Several companies are making an effort to contribute to the education of HBCU students. Hennessy teamed up with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund for the creation of a graduate fellowship program . Track Star Who Was Paralyzed After Car Accident Aims To Run Again

Go here to read the rest:

A teen from Georgia is turning his tragedy into triumph and is living proof that with hard work and perseverance it’s possible to beat the odds. According to Inside Edition Tre Lawson —a track star who was paralyzed after a car accident—is aiming to get back to running. Tre Lawson is on a mission to run again — and hopefully inspire others in the process https://t.co/9xf5x2SyWH — News4JAX (@wjxt4) April 20, 2019 At one point Lawson, who attended Westside High School, was one of the top track athletes in the country, but things took a tragic turn in 2017. After winning a track meet, he got into a car with a group of friends and the driver fell asleep at the wheel. The vehicle went off the road and crashed. Lawson suffered serious injuries including damage done to his head, abdomen, and spinal cord. He woke up in the hospital nearly a month after the accident occurred. “It was a huge depressing moment. I thought maybe this is the last time I’ll be able to run again, my career is over. I was wondering if the coaches would still be interested in me even if I recover in due time,” he told the news outlet. “Looking at the four walls of the hospital room, you become depressed really quickly.” Although it took a while for Lawson to come to terms with what had happened, he ultimately decided he wouldn’t let his circumstances defeat him. He was motivated to get back on the track. He went through a rigorous rehabilitation program at the Shepherd Center based in Atlanta. Day after day Lawson went hard with his strength training so that he wouldn’t have to be confined to a wheelchair. He recently got back on the track at his high school with a walker and was able to walk 200 meters in 30 minutes. He says that the accident has inspired him to focus on the positive aspects of life. “Every day isn’t a sunny day. You have to have rain in order to have a rainbow some days.” Lawson has launched his own nonprofit organization for patients at the Shepherd Center. SEE ALSO: T.I. Robert Kraft: Video of Patriots Owner Getting a Hand Job Is Coming Your Way!

Back in February, New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft was arrested for his alleged involvement in a prostitution ring. Prosecutors claimed the billionaire was a regular client at Orchids of Asia, a Jupiter, Florida massage parlor that specialized in “happy endings.” Yes, that’s a euphemistic way of saying Mr. Kraft was frequently getting cranked off in a Sunshine State strip mall. Folks, this is what a 10-figure net worth looks like in Donald Trump’s America. Anyway, the whole situation has been a nightmare for Kraft and the Patriots organization, both of which have been mired in controversy for years. In all likelihood, Kraft will beat the charges against him and avoid jail time. (For an explanation of why we’re making this prediction, see that earlier bit about the 10-figure net worth.) But that doesn’t mean Kraft will be able to put this scandal behind anytime soon. Florida prosecutors are in possession of a tape that reportedly shows Kraft “receiving sexual services” at Orchids of Asia. Thus far, Kraft has been able to block the public release of the video, but apparently, it’s already been shopped to several media outlets by an unknown seller. According to The Blast , which was one of the outlets to receive the tape, the footage shows Kraft “undressed and laying on the massage table with his hands placed behind his head.” We’re guessing that’s also how he greets Roger Goodell after every Patriots Super Bowl victory. Interestingly, Kraft’s arrest came just days after the Pats yet again outraged America by triumphing over the LA Rams in a battle of coastal elite cities that was about as thrilling as watching a painting of growing grass dry. We’re not saying the two events are related, but the timing might be evidence that there is a God, and he hates the Patriots just as much as the rest of us. Despite earlier reports that Kraft was part of a human sex trafficking ring, it now looks as though Orchids of Asia was nothing more than an old-fashioned handy hut. Even so, Kraft’s involvement in this ordeal is beyond creepy. We understand why an elderly widower might turn to prostitutes for “companionship,” but this is a guy who could’ve been enjoying intimate evenings at home with top-dollar escorts. Instead, he was getting his knob polished in a strip mall by underpaid and seemingly mistreated immigrants who proceeded to hose off his juices with something called a “table shower.” Supposedly, owners are held to the same standard of conduct as players, but you know if this were a 22-year-old WRoC (wide receiver of color), there would be no talk of him returning to the league. Just sayin’.

Joe Giudice Deportation Appeal: Denied!

It is officially time to say ciao to Joe Giudice. The disgraced former Real Housewives of New Jersey star was informed this month that his deportation appeal was denied, paving the way for Giudice to be sent back to his native Italy. It has taken several days for the news to leak online, but this is what source close to the situation just told E! News: “The Board of Immigration Appeals ruled against Joe in an April 6 decision.” This same insider explains that Joe had to learn about the board’s decision by mail because the process is “done entirely by mail.” Giudice, of course, pleaded guilty to his role in a bankruptcy scheme back in 2016. He was then sentenced to serve 44 months in jail, but was able to postpone this stint under after his guilty wife completed her time behind bars. Then, last fall, a judge determined that Giudice would be deported because he broke federal law as a non-U.S. citizen. The father of four’s legal team filed an appeal, which is what a court just shot down. However, on Wednesday, this same legal team filed a petition for the federal court to review of the appeals decisions. This really is the final chance for Joe to avoid deportation — and it appears to be a long shot. “We are extremely disappointed that the Board of Immigration Appeals has denied Mr. Giudice’s appeal,” the family’s attorney James J. Leonard Jr. says. “We have filed a stay with the Third Circuit Court of Appeals and will continue to fight to keep Mr. Giudice in the United States, the only country he knows, and reunite him with his wife and four daughters.” It’s true that Joe has four daughters and we legitimately feel terrible for them that their dad is about to be forced out of the country. On the other hand, perhaps they will be better off with just one criminal raising them at home, as opposed to two. As for Teresa? She will follow her dear husband wherever she goes and is committed to the man she loves and the life they have built together. Just kidding. She’s already said the marriage is over once Joe is outta here. Appearing opposite Andy Cohen last month when the topic was broached, Teresa sounded very casual and cool with the impending divorce, “It’s like starting a whole new life,” she said of moving to Italy with Joe, adding: “And [her daughters have] been through so much already. So, I mean, I’m not doing a long-distance relationship. I’m just not doing it. I want somebody with me every day. “I know exactly what happens, I’m sure he’ll be with other women. It happens. We do the long-distance thing? It’s not going to work. I’ll be like, ‘bye bye.'” View Slideshow: Teresa Giudice: The Wedding Ring is Off! Heck, there’s been chatter that Teresa is already dating someone new and planning her very own Bravo spinoff. Shocking, right? By which we mean… not shocking at all.

So Y’all Good?: Brandy And Monica Are Going On Tour Together

Source: Jeffrey Mayer / Getty via MadameNoire No, hell has not frozen over, but it seems a miracle has happened — or better yet, maturity. Singers Brandy and Monica are going on tour together, along with a list of other popular Black female performers, as part of Live Nation Urban’s new “Femme It Forward” concert series. According to Variety , the series will be full of all-female live performances, panels, comedy shows and more, and a portion of proceeds are going to be given to organizations who focus on the advancement of women. Stars featured, aside from Brandy and Monica, include Cardi B, Teyana Taylor, Jill Scott, City Girls, Ashanti, Mya, Keri Hilson, Faith Evans, Jorja Smith, Amerie and more. So far, confirmed shows are going from April through October, but more will likely be added. View this post on Instagram Introducing Femme It Forward! But hopefully that won’t include the drama that came with that time for Brandy and Monica. Both women have had their issues in the past, including getting in an actual physical altercation back in ’98. They were able to overcome them for a time, citing their children as reasons to bury the hatchet. However, that mea culpa fell apart after talks about doing some shows, promoting their second collaborative effort, the single “It All Belongs To Me,” didn’t come to fruition. “I just honestly think Monica and I are in a different place with our music,” Brandy said in 2012 about why touring together had fallen through. “And my vibe is a little different this time around so I don’t know. I definitely feel like the fans would want a tour from us, but I don’t know, I just feel like I’m being pulled in a different direction. I’m definitely still open to it, but right now I’m looking in a different way right now for me.” Sign Up For Our Newsletter!  Close Thank you for subscribing! There were odd snapchat videos, social media comments, petty attempts to prove who was closer to Whitney Houston, and changing the lyrics to “The Boy Is Mine” to “The Song Is Mine.” However, Monica tried to stay above the drama, calling Brandy an “amazing person” while performing last summer. “I want to thank my sisters in music, they started the same time I did,” she said. “How many of y’all love and adore the late, great Aaliyah? She was special. One in a million for sure. And I want y’all to make some noise for the woman — this is the only Grammy I ever won in my whole life. Only time they called a Black girl from the country to the big stage was with this amazing person, Ms. Brandy Norwood. See the thing is, if we lift each other up, we can do a whole lot,” she said. “This is in honor of everyone lifting each other up. I’m going to do this song for my sisters tonight, for the one that’s absent and the one that’s still traveling around the world doing her thing.” And just earlier this year, Brandy seemed to have changed her tune, sharing a post of herself and Monica in “The Boy Is Mine” video with a positive caption during Black History Month: View this post on Instagram #BlackHistory #PowerfulWomen #TheBoyIsMine #BrandyAndMonica #Darkchild @monicabrown @rodneyjerkins @fredjerkins @bigshiz #Legacy A post shared by b r a n d y (@4everbrandy) on Feb 8, 2019 at 4:33am PST So it looks like the time has come for them to get over their issues and make music — and money! Monica is certainly excited about the chance to do a few shows on the same bill as her old friend. In an Instagram Story, she reposted a story from Necole Kane that said “It’s about time!!!” in reference to the tour news. Monica responded, “Yasss!” [ione_media_gallery src=”https://92q.com” id=”4036521″ overlay=”true”]

Sooo… What Happened Next?! Here’s What 4 Fabulous ‘Queer Eye’ Candidates Are Up To NOW

See the article here:

Source: Brian To/WENN.com / WENN Netflix original series Queer Eye was introduced to us in February of last year and ever since, the Fab 5 have had a very special place in our hearts. A reboot of Bravo’s Queer Eye for the Straight Guy , the newer series follows food and wine expert Antoni Porowski, culture expert Karamo Brown, fashion expert Tan France, design expert Bobby Berk, and grooming expert Jonathan Van Ness as they travel around the country, provide people with some serious TLC, and dispel ignorance about gay men . While all you’re really expecting the Fab 5 to do is give their clients a dope ass makeover , their time with each person turns out to be about much more than that. Karamo digs deep to show each person their true value and potential, Bobby finesses their space so they can have a relaxing place to feel at home, Jonathan makes sure their inside beauty shines through to the outside, Antoni teaches the art of love by way of sustenance, and Tan gets their gear together so they can feel confident every time they step out into the world. In talking to each person they pay a visit to, the Fab 5 also experience some healing of their own — I think we can agree, this is much more than a makeover. With season 3 released one month ago, we’re feeling the Queer Eye feels all over again, as some pretty amazing stories were documented this time around. Fans were so touched, in fact, they raised over $100,000 for one young lady, Jess Guilbeaux, after she appeared on the show. At 16 years old Jess was kicked out of her home because she was a lesbian. She continued on with life but that was difficult to do while feeling unloved – not to mention she barely had any support system to depend on. Jess tried to put herself through college but eventually dropped out due to overwhelming debt. After hearing her heart-wrenching story, fans started a GoFundMe to “Send Jess Back To College” and Jess was able to pay off her loans!
