J. Cole Is “Rolling Out” Speaking On Gossip: “I Don’t Like Gossip… It’s Annoying”

J. Cole graces the current cover of Rolling Out Magazine and speaks on meeting with Jay-Z, Rihanna sex-tape rumors and new album. Talk about your first encounter with Jay-Z. What led to that moment? I graduated from St. John’s University. At the time, all of my friends got nine-to-five jobs and were making $30,000 to 40,000 per year. I was working at a newspaper in Queens making $8 per hour at a part-time job so that I could still do music at night. I heard that Jay-Z was recording the American Gangster album. That same night, I made two beats and I thought it would be perfect for Jay-Z. I went to the studio where Jay-Z was recording and I waited outside for three hours. His Phantom finally pulled up. I was super timid and shy. I had the CD in my hand and I tried to hand it to Jay-Z. He looked at it and said, ‘What is this? I don’t want that. Give it to one of those other guys.’ It was crushing. That was another moment. But I snapped back to reality. I knew after that, I had to go harder. That type of rejection fuels me. I believe that greatness is fueled by rejection. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team; Jay-Z had trouble getting a record deal before Reasonable Doubt; and no one wanted to sign Kanye West as a rapper. How did the second meeting with Jay-Z come about? One year later, Jay-Z heard a song through Mark Pitts. Jay called me for a meeting. It was a three-hour meeting and I played my music [for] him. We talked about President Obama and other things. Five weeks later, he offered me a record deal. Beyond music, your name was mentioned by gossip bloggers who reported that you and Rihanna had a sex tape. How did you react when you heard about it? Gossip is foreign to me. By nature, I don’t like gossip. I never was on the gossip sites. Now being on the other side, it’s annoying. A lot of people don’t know the difference between gossip and reality. They may think that you have a sex tape with Rihanna, or [that] you’re having sex with Solange because of what someone made up. But I guess it’s just something that comes with the territory. How does Cole World: The Sideline Story reflect who you are as a person? This album speaks to the type of artist I want to be. I think the album will provide thought provoking lyrics, and heartfelt stories. I want to take listeners on a ride. It shows the type of balance that I want to have as an artist. I want to be at the top of the list when it comes to rap. I want the respect of the hip-hop fans and connoisseurs. I want to be on everybody’s list. How many of you believe J. Cole chop down Rihanna??!? Check out more pics from the article and J. Cole’s New Video – “Daddy’s Little Girl”

TV Guide Editor: “[Taraji] Was Never Intended To Be The Focus Of Our Cover Story”

Continued here:

Yesterday, actress Taraji P. Henson, made it clear that she was very upset with TV Guide after they excluded her from her cast mates on the cover of the TV Guide issue focusing on “Point Of Interest.” Taraji who is the only female lead on the show wasn’t included there or in certain promotinal billboard. TooFab.com spoke with the  Editor-in-Chief of TV Guide Magazine who says “I made an editorial decision to do a story about the relationship between the two male characters on ‘Person of Interest’ and that’s who I was going to put on the cover. That has been my decision all along, ever since I saw the pilot. We’re certainly fans of Taraji Henson and her storyline on the show was never intended to be the focus of our cover story. I don’t know where there was a misunderstanding about this, but it’s been clear to everyone from the start. I don’t make decisions on who is put and not put on the cover based on race or gender.” Hm, sounds like a race issue to me! TV Guide Doesn’t Include Taraji P. Amy Lee Says Album Art ‘About Evanescence, Not Just Me’

Self-titled album is the first that won’t feature the frontwoman on its cover. By James Montgomery Evanescence album artwork Photo: Wind-up Records If one were to study the covers of Evanescence ‘s first two albums, they’d quickly notice that, aside from all the dark swirly bits, they share another rather unifying concept: Namely, they both feature frontwoman Amy Lee … and only frontwoman Amy Lee. Of course, things are different these days. For the first time, Lee says that Evanescence are really, truly a band, and the songs on their upcoming third album are the end result of countless hours spent hammering out rhythms and melodies together. Which is why they made the decision to call the new album, simply, Evanescence . For further proof of this point, one only has to glance at the cover of the album, which features nothing more than the band’s name (and some of the prerequisite dark and swirlies). And while some fans may be mystified by the simple design, Lee told MTV News that there’s definitely a message behind the minimalism. “Well, both of our other records are me on the cover, and I think it’s cool to have that photo, you know, that people can look at and go, ‘OK, that’s who that is.’ But I feel like, by now, they know who we are, and I wanted something really different,” she said. “I didn’t feel like we had to put a photo on the cover, I wanted it to be more mysterious and more about Evanescence itself, not just me. ” And that concept extends beyond Evanescence ‘s cover image. As Lee explained, on the new album, she and her musical mates are exploring every aspect of the band … starting with the name itself. Because, for the first time, Evanescence is more than just its frontwoman. “The idea to not have any photos on the outside I thought was really cool,” she said. “And all the images and the artwork is a play on the meaning of the word ‘Evanescence.’ It means ‘to dissipate like vapor,’ so I decided to go with light and vapor … it’s really about Evanescence, not just me.” What do you think of Evanescence’s new album art? Lady Gaga’s Harper’s Bazaar Cover Is ‘A Big Deal’

Fashion photographers Inez & Vinoodh say stripped-down photo shows ‘the old soul that she is.’ By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga on the October 2011 cover of Harper’s Bazaar Photo: Inez & Vinoodh / Hearst Communications Lady Gaga appears barefaced on the latest cover of Harper’s Bazaar. The cover is simply a close-up of her face: no makeup, wigs, masks or high-end couture. For a star who’s frequently adorned elaborately, the simplicity of the look was so drastic that it made headlines. Fans might be surprised to learn the cover shot was taken during a hectic video shoot in Nebraska, where Gaga was not only shooting her official “You and I” clip , but also several Inez & Vinoodh-directed fashion films. The pair, who shot the Harper’s cover, told MTV News the photo truly exposes Gaga as the person she is. “She’s so beautiful in it. It’s her emotion and her expression, and you can just see the old soul that she is, the pure happiness,” Inez explained. “She’s a very special human being that is all about giving. I think that’s what’s great with that cover: It’s so out; it’s so talking to the people. That’s her most incredible quality: radiating that happiness that she has, and you really see it.” Over the course of her career, Gaga has had many extreme looks on the cover of countless magazines, and it seems that this stripped-down look was the only natural progression for her. The duo, who also shot her three-headed V Magazine cover, explained that this cover is “her purely; seeing her how she is inside.” So, how did the cover come to be? Inez explained, “I think it was Stephen Gan, the art director of Harper’s Bazaar, that came to us and said, ‘I would love to have a shoot with Gaga where she’s really bare, where it’s really her,’ because he knows her very well; they’re great friends. He feels the same way that we do: She is so beautiful, but because of all the stuff around, you don’t get the chance to see really the gorgeousness and the person inside in that part of her. For Harper’s Bazaar, I think it’s a big deal to have a black-and-white cover to begin with, and it’s great.” It was an idea that Gaga jumped on quite enthusiastically. “She’s at a point in life too where she’s very confident and … everything’s going so well and enjoying so much, it’s really the right timing too to bare herself like that,” the pair added. America’s Got Talent Review: Who Raised the Bar?

We’re down to 10 acts on America’s Got Talent , 10 performers who are mere days away from fulfilling their dream. Who bombed? Who rose to the occasion? Who ought to advance? The answers await… Miami All-Stars – Had the disadvantage of going first in a very important week. I didn’t understand the football/cheerleader theme and the dancing was too frantic. The group gets extra points for the big dancing chicken. The whole performance lacked direction and the music transition was executed really sloppy. My Grade: C+ Lys Agnes Performance Lys Agnes – Was aiming for a rock/opera hybrid that the vocal coach didn’t like. I wouldn’t listen to her because she sabotaged several of the kid acts this year. Lys reminded me a bit of Des’ree in the beginning, her lower range sounds like Cher, which Sharon noted as bad. I appreciated the increased production value and the epic ending, but did it take too long to get to the end? My Grade: B+ Landon Swank – Decided to go with a simplistic routine, which was an interesting idea for a finale. The close-up magic worked for the TV, but if this was a Vegas act, I wouldn’t have approved. It took too long with him removing the tie and changing the channel. I liked the concept of the glass fish tank, but there was a minor slip-up with “closing” the hole he had. I’m not sure where the fish ended up. My Grade: A- A nna Graceman – Small town Anna took her risk by not being in front of a piano. Her rendition of “True Colors” was wobbly in the beginning, but by the chorus she got to use her upper register. I hated her pronunciation of “rainbow” before the second verse. Whoever chose her dress should be fired because she looked like a cupcake wrapper. The performance was nice, but the song choice was sleepy. My Grade: B- Silhouettes – The combination of national monuments with really strong shapes was probably the groups’ attempt to listen to Piers’ suggestions last week. They managed to get colors and still create motivating shapes. Ending with the “Believe” and the final shot of all of the little storylines put together was the winning touch. My Grade: A+ Smage Brothers Riding Shows – The Smage brothers finally introduced the non-brother Troy and gave him as much praise as possible. After jumping over grandma, the brothers decided to go with a very trick park theme. Troy got a lot more abuse this time around where I’m pretty sure he got smacked in the head. Poor guy had to run to every box to prepare to get almost-killed. Most of the tricks were solid, and the bottle opening with the wheels was a cute finish. My Grade: B+ PopLyfe – After taking on the Beatles, PopLyfe went for the next bar: Michael Jackson. It’s interesting that they still had the gall to pick MJ after The Fiddleheads bombed. The Jackson 5 approach was a smart decision to integrate the young ages plus the cute choreography. I didn’t like that they didn’t end with an epic vocal run, but it was a solid performance. My Grade: A West Springfield Dance Team – The dance troupe decided to go darker than their prior performances, but I have to think that high amounts of makeup are a problem for dancers. The group used more dub step to emphasize their movements, which helped show a clean routine. I could see why Piers would dislike the routine because it was one-dimensional with the formations and the transitions. My Grade: B Landau Eugene Murphy, Jr. – West Springfield was criticized for performing the same thing over and over again, but Landau will never get the same criticism. Landau is an endearing person and his vocals were strong, but his music selection has gotten a bit stale even if it was Dean Martin instead of Frank Sinatra. My Grade: B+ Team iLuminate – As the closing act, iLuminate already has the advantage of being fresh in mind, but they raised the bar even though they didn’t experiment with new colors. By changing the genre of music, adding a person, and the dimension of height, they kept their routine fresh and it was moving to watch. They even managed to throw a bit of Silhouette touch of the ending of the person on the top of a mountain. My Grade: A+ So, who should end up in the final four? Silhouettes, Poplyfe, Landau and Team iLuminate.

Anthony Michael Hall Arrested By Neighbors

Who knew Anthony Michael Hall had a wild, aggressive streak? After screaming obscenities, challenging people to fights in the street, tearing up plants, yelling at people and generally making his condo complex an unpleasant place, the irate actor was arrested by one of his neighbors in Playa del Ray, Ca. Hall’s neighbor made a citizen’s arrest, then called in the LAPD . According to reports, the actor has often been seen acting aggressive outside of his unit, cursing at people who happen to be walk by, flipping them off and even attempting to squirt people with a hose … for no apparent reason. Several neighbors complained to the housing association but no action had been taken against The Breakfast Club and Weird Science star. One person tells us, “I have considered buying a gun to stay safe from Hall … he’s the scariest person I’ve ever encountered in my life.” [Photo: WENN.com]

Eminem, Royce Da 5’9" Success Inspires Slaughterhouse

‘To have him on our team is only gonna make us better,’ Crooked I says of Royce. By Rob Markman Slaughterhouse’s Royce Da 5’9,” Crooked I and Joe Budden Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — All for one and one for all. Last week, Royce Da 5’9″ hoisted his first gold plaque for his and Eminem ‘s Bad Meets Evil EP Hell: The Sequel, and his Slaughterhouse bandmates couldn’t be happier for the Detroit spitter. “It feels great to actually be accomplishing things,” Royce told MTV News backstage at Rock the Bells. “Five years ago, I was in jail, so this is phenomenal for me, and I feel like it’s starting the machine and it’s starting the Shady Records movement, because this is a good springboard to get the Slaughterhouse project off the ground, and we wanna make being lyrical cool again. We want the kids to look at lyricism and feel like that’s cool.” In January, it was announced that Eminem had signed the quartet — comprised of Royce, Joell Ortiz, Crooked I and Joe Budden — to his Shady Records label. While the foursome have been working on their Shady debut, Em and Royce revived their Bad Meets Evil group and dropped Hell: The Sequel in June. Now, three months later, the project has moved more than 500,000 copies, making it Royce’s first gold record. For the rest of Slaughterhouse, Nickel Nine’s success provides inspiration. “I was actually there when [Eminem’s manager] Paul [Rosenberg] came in with the plaque, and that’s an ill moment in history, because it’s more than full-circle in my eyes; it’s like full-circle and then some,” Crooked I said. “I proceeded to get drunk off a bottle of Mo
