Drake Drops ‘Monster Verse’ On DJ Drama’s ‘We In This Bitch 1.5’

Drama wanted to recruit someone who was ‘keeping hip-hop culture moving forward’ for the remix to his hit single. By Nadeska Alexis, with reporting by Sway Calloway Future, Ludacris, DJ Drama and T.I. on the set of “We in This Bitch” music video Photo: MTV News DJ Drama recruited Atlanta’s finest for his single “We In This Bitch,” even gathering Young Jeezy, T.I., Ludacris and Future for the song’s video , which premiered earlier this week, but Drama still found one more way to guarantee the track’s sticking power. On Friday (May 11) he released the remixed version, “We in This Bitch 1.5” featuring Drake. During Meek Mill’s 25th birthday celebration in Philadelphia on Sunday, MTV News caught up with Drama, who teased the remix, and gave a few details on how the collaboration came about. “When you have a record, being a DJ we always like to do creative things, so I got a version 1.5, which is DJ Drama featuring Drake and Future,” he told Sway Calloway, going on to explain why he thought the YMCMB rapper was the best fit to remake the single. “When you have a record like that and [you want] to add onto it, there’s not a lot of things you could do,” he said. “[Drake] came with a monster verse, [and he’s] another young, fresh talent, somebody out here that I look at the same way I look at Meek, who’s really keeping hip-hop culture moving forward, so I felt it was only best.” Topping the original track was definitely no easy feat. Drama explained that he was very conscious of gathering Atlanta’s legends and one promising newcomer for the original. “It’s the first time that Tip, Jeezy and Luda have all been on one record together,” he said. “Plus, having Future on there, who’s got the streets on fire — 2 Chainz and Future are really holding the A down and really are a new generation. Of course, we all know Tip has been here for a long time doing his thing, and even the significance of what Jeezy, T.I. and Luda mean to the city and to my career, it’s a special moment for them, it’s a special record.” “We In This Bitch 1.5” finds Future on the first track with Drake since the YMCMB rapper appeared on Future’s hit single “Tony Montana.” There was some brief friction between the two, when Future took a jab at Drake for skipping out on filming the video with him. William Balfour Guilty In Jennifer Hudson Family Murder Case

Oscar winner was on hand when the jury read verdict convicting Balfour on all counts on Friday afternoon. By Gil Kaufman William Balfour Photo: Cook County Sheriff’s Department/ WireImage After two-and-a-half days of deliberation, the jury in the murder trial of William Balfour returned a guilty verdict on all counts on Friday afternoon (May 11). Balfour was on trial for the murders of Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson ‘s mother, brother and nephew. The jury returned guilty verdicts on three counts of murder, as well as one count each of home invasion, residential burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, and aggravated kidnapping. Because Illinois no longer has a death penalty, Balfour will spend the rest of his life in jail without the possibility of parole. According to the Chicago Tribune, an hour before reading the verdict, the jury sent a note to Judge Charles Burns informing him that they were split, but still working to reach a verdict. Around the same time, Burns received another note asking for all of the evidence about the cell-phone tower coverage in the area of the murder. The judge sent back a transcript of the testimony of FBI Special Agent Nikki Skovran, who performed a forensic analysis on Balfour’s cell phone on the day of the murders that placed him near the Hudson home around the time the victims were killed. Earlier, the jury of six men and six women had requested copies of two videos in evidence: one from an area high school that showed the time Balfour’s car was parked on the street and another of the police interrogation of Balfour, in which he claimed he left it there around 8:30 a.m. on the morning of the murders. During the trial, prosecutors had argued that the time stamp on the school surveillance video provided proof that Balfour, 31, was lying about his whereabouts that morning. Balfour is alleged to have shown up at the Hudson home on the morning of the killings appearing agitated, saying he’d been up all night drinking. He spotted balloons that Julia received from a new boyfriend for the holiday Sweetest Day, got angry and punched the balloons, according to police. When Julia left the house to go to work, Balfour remained behind outside. The jury began their deliberation on Wednesday night and had been sequestered at a hotel for two nights. As the verdict was read, Hudson, huddled close with her fianc

A grand jury cleared the cops who electrocuted, threw the N-Word at and fatally shot a black veteran asking to be left alone. Of course. Here’s some video showing that the victim, Kenneth Chamberlain Sr., was perfectly fine and needed no medical assistance, although the cops who killed him insisted they were just trying to check on him.

Exclusive: G. Dep Calls Guilty Verdict ‘God’s Will’

‘I’ma just stay strong and hopefully I’ll see y’all in the near future,’ the former Bad Boy MC tells MTV News in a jailhouse interview. By Jesse Gissen G Dep Photo: Denise Truscello/ WireImage Two days after being convicted of second-degree murder, G. Dep spoke exclusively to MTV News on Thursday (April 19), where he reacted to the verdict from behind bars. “However it went down, it was just one of them things where I knew I was facing some type of charge, so whatever the verdict was, I knew it was God’s will,” Dep told us by phone as he awaits sentencing in lockup. The former Bad Boy rapper, born Trevell Coleman, was found guilty on Tuesday of killing John Henkel in a botched robbery attempt nearly two decades ago in his hometown of Harlem. Coleman made headlines in 2010 after he confessed — unprovoked — that he had committed the crime in a surprising confession to police at Manhattan’s 25th precinct. At the time, Coleman said that he longed to clear his conscience. Although he took blame for the shooting, Coleman’s lawyer, Anthony Ricco, argued in court last week that the victim was not the same man that police had pinned to the crime. Despite the outcome, the 37-year-old seemed at peace with the judgment call. “You know, someone was taken from [the Henkel] family, so I can’t feel like I was robbed in any kind of way,” he said. “I just want to thank everyone that was involved in the case. I don’t have no ill thoughts towards anybody.” That is if you don’t count a few reporters who covered the case for New York’s Daily News. “I just wanna let people know there’s a couple of reporters out there that’s just talking that talk,” he snarled. “I just had to make sure everything was everything,” he explained about his decision to fight the charge in court. “I was already putting myself out there. I had to make sure everything was what it was. That’s why the trial even was on.” G. Dep signed to Diddy’s Bad Boy Records in 1998, and went on to release his debut LP, Child of the Ghetto, in 2001. The record spawned two well-received singles, “Let’s Get It” and “Special Delivery,” but Dep’s rap career failed to take off. By 2003, he had parted ways with Bad Boy. Coleman took another stab at the indusry, dropping a mixtape the following year, but his various arrests and battles with drug abuse thwarted those efforts. Dep is scheduled for sentencing on May 8, when he’ll face up to 15 years in jail. “I’ma just stay strong and hopefully I’ll see y’all in the near future or the far future,” Dep said when asked how he feels about the impending jail time. “I know life goes on, praise God. And one day maybe I could say hello to y’all again.” Related Artists G Dep

REVIEW: Nicolas Cage Too Subdued to Juice Up Vigilante Thriller Seeking Justice

In Seeking Justice , a man whose wife is assaulted and raped makes a deal with a mysterious vigilante organization that exacts revenge on his behalf but demands from him a favor to be named later. If you’re thinking that sounds like something that will turn out to be a bargain he regrets, you are correct! And if it also sounds like the kind of disposable movie you’ll not catch the title of but will happily half pay attention to on cable some day, well, you’d be right on that account too, though this film has a cast peculiarly heavy on name actors for something getting a minor release. Nicolas Cage plays the husband in question, a New Orleans teacher named Will Gerard, and January Jones (perpetually bored and disdainful) is his wife Laura. Guy Pearce is the head of the unnamed group, Harold Perrineau and Jennifer Carpenter are the couple’s friends. Roger Donaldson, of  The Recruit, Species, Cocktail and others, directs this thriller, which goes from adequate to ludicrous but is only ever compelling enough to serve as audiovisual wallpaper while you’re focused on something else. Some of the film’s limpness is due to the fact that Cage plays Will in a minor weird key as opposed to one of his major ones — there are no fits of operatic oddness. At this point in his career, Cage doesn’t seem capable of playing normal, only varying degrees of strange, and having him take on the role of an everyman in over his head is a futile endeavor — he already appears much nuttier than any conspiracy posse Seeking Justice  can come up with. (Even the way he jogs looks just a little off.) The one it does present is so powerful you’d think it wouldn’t need to bother with its complicated recruiting structure, which offers a daisy-chain,  Strangers on a Train- type process. The man who kills Laura’s rapist is doing so as payment for the avenging of the murder of his wife three months earlier. He knows the crime that was committed by the person he’s been sent to execute, but otherwise has no connection to him. Will receives the necklace that was stolen from his wife during the attack and knows the deed is done. Six months later, the two are putting their lives back together, though Laura is still anxious about making sure the doors are locked and is learning how to shoot a gun and Will is — dramatic music queue! — receiving a call instructing him to a meeting where he’s going to have to fulfill his end of the bargain. He’s handed a letter to mail, but later is instructed to open it instead — inside, he discovers photos of a woman and her two girls he’s told to follow and observe at the zoo. The second half of his deal involves his killing someone, a man (Jason Davis) he’s told is named Leon Walczak and is a pedophile. They give him a time and place and direct him as to the best way to make it look like an accident, but he doesn’t want to do it, he’s not a murderer, he made a mistake, and so on and so on. They threaten Laura, he cries foul but finds himself there at the appointed time and place trying to warn his intended victim, which doesn’t go well. And then Leon Walczak turns out to not be as described by Simon at all, and Will tumbles headlong into trouble. Seeking Justice  is set in New Orleans, and there’s something potentially interesting to be found in the idea of a vigilante organization in a city in recovery that’s struggled with more crime than it has necessarily had the resources to deal with. “I got into this because I was sick of seeing this city rot,” a character explains, saying that he’s chosen to be active where “most good citizens are just along for the ride.” But the film has nothing intelligent to say about taking the law into your own hands. The organization, which uses the code phrase “the hungry rabbit jumps” (no one snickers when saying this or makes a “crow flies at midnight” crack, so you know they’re for real), is large, so large that every other man Will runs into seems to have a connection to it; it’s also operated in cells, one of which Simon heads up. The group seems needlessly fond of signaling by having someone buy an arranged candy at an arranged location or sneak into a classroom to write a number on a whiteboard instead of just calling, but why have a mysterious organization if you’re not going to take the opportunity to act mysterious? Despite their resources and the fact that they seem to know everything before it happens, they’re stymied by Will once he learns to get in touch with his inner tough guy (and doesn’t even need a fiery skull head to do so). The vigilantes make criminals answer for what they’ve done, but who will do the same for the vigilantes? In  Seeking Justice , there’s no urgency to the question. Follow Alison Willmore on Twitter . Rick Ross Not A Suspect In Miami Murder

Maybach Music boss is not a suspect nor is he being sought for questioning in a murder, police confirm to MTV News. By Rob Markman Rick Ross Photo: Getty Images After police found a dead body in front of a Miami Gardens home owned by Rick Ross , the Maybach Music boss’ name began to pop up in connection to the killing, but an area detective confirmed to MTV News on Wednesday (February 29) that the rapper is not a suspect, nor is he being sought for questioning. Miami Gardens officers responded to a 911 call at approximately 7 a.m. ET after reports of gun shots. When police arrived at the scene of the crime they found a dead body in the yard of a house owned by the rapper, whose real name is William Roberts. Though Ross owns the property, it is not where he resides. “He lives at a different location,” Detective Michael Wright told MTV News. The murder is still under investigation and police declined to reveal the name of the deceased at press time. But it seems Rick Ross is definitely in the clear. In other news, the Double-M-Genius is set to head to court in May for a case with far less serious ramifications. Former L.A. drug kingpin “Freeway” Rick Ross is suing the rapper who he claims is unlawfully profiting from his name. The case was initially thrown out in 2010, but has now been reopened with a trial date set for early May. A little over a week ago, Rick Ross was named MTV News’ Hottest MC in the Game , nabbing the coveted position on a list of 10. His MMG signees, Wale and Meek Mill, took the #10 and #7 spots, respectively. Related Videos ‘Hottest MCs In The Game VII’ Related Artists Rick Ross
