Olivia Munn first became known for keeping geeks everywhere enthralled on a daily basis as the co-host of G4′ s Attack of the Show , but since leaving the program to pursue acting she’s hit the ground running by joining The Daily Show , starring in the short-lived sitcom Perfect Couples , and snagging roles in upcoming projects from the likes of Aaron Sorkin and Steven Soderbergh. Speaking with Munn over the weekend about her latest film, I Don’t Know How She Does It , Movieline was determined not to ask the pun-tastic question of how, in fact, she does it. What we discovered instead was the story of how, in the course of following her Hollywood dreams, she tried to do it all.
Let this be a lesson to all Wedding Crashers fans: Just because Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn pull some hilarious pranks without legal consequence in their 2005 comedy does not mean that said hilarious pranks can be pulled without consequence in real life. Just ask 22-year-old University of Wisconsin student Luciana Reichel who has been jailed for 90 days and put on 30 months probation after playing a copycat Wedding Crashers practical joke on her roommate.
Being Mr. Kim Kardashian cannot be easy. Still, Kris Humphries had to know what he was getting into, right? Maybe not, if dueling tabloids are to be believed. Sources say the baller hasn’t exactly won over Kim’s tight-knit family. That’s putting it midly. Dude reportedly ripped Kourtney Kardashian for being “slave” to son Mason, roughhouses Kim so hard that her sisters call him “this weird, big clumsy oaf” and “was being a dick” through much of their courtship. Married only one month, Kim is already forced to defend her love. Or just miserable, depending on which totally accurate supermarket gossip rag you pick up . All of those quotes are courtesy of Us Weekly . Star , meanwhile, suggests that Kim isn’t a big fan of Kris lately either, “fighting bitterly” with her new spouse. Two major points of contention: Their life is completely, comically staged. Kris noticed. “He’s sick of how their lives are planned out like a scripted TV show ,” a source reveals, adding that just a few days before the wedding, he freaked out. He doesn’t like how the relationship is for the cameras, making you wonder how the heck he would possibly propose to Kim if that’s even half true. Allegedly, Kim told Kris she’d been planning this wedding since she was 10 years old, and he snapped: “Yeah, and you could just slot any guy into it.” No comment yet from Damon Thomas on that topic. Short, possibly bogus story: Everyone hates Kris, his namesake, Kris Jenner, has demanded that they “cool it” because “it may damage Kim’s reputation.” Still, Kim’s mom is furious that Kris is verbally abusive to Kim, rolling his eyes when she talks and even SMOKING A JOINT at a recent party. Unreal. Kim Kardashian and Kris Humphries: Will it last?
Tyler Hadley, the Florida teen who allegedly bludgeoned his parents to death, then partied with their dead bodies upstairs , has been indicted for murder. He is now charged with first-degree murder, twice over. The grand jury indictment upgrades what were originally two counts of second-degree murder with a weapon in the deaths of Blake and Mary Jo Hadley. No motive in the Hadley case has been reported. Acting on an anonymous tip, on Sunday morning July 17 officers visited the Hadley home, where a “nervous” Tyler told them his parents were out of town. According to CNN , the grand jury heard testimony from Hadley’s uncle, the lead detective in the case, a medical examiner and a crime scene investigator. If convicted, Hadley faces a mandatory life sentence. Though he was charged as an adult, his age prevents prosecutors from seeking the death penalty.
Joran van der Sloot has been charged with murder. The Dutchman was arrested in June of 2010 after 21-year old Stephany Flores was found bludgeoned to death in his Lima hotel room. He now faces a 30-year jail sentence and would have to pay a restitution penalty of $73,000 to the victim’s family if found guilty. According to van der Sloot’s attorney, his client would claim temporary insanity and plead guilty in exchange for a less harsh sentence. van der Sloot allegedly killed Ramirez because she glanced at his laptop and discovered his connection to 18-year-old Natalee Holloway, who disappeared from Aruba in 2005 and who van der Sloot is rumored to have murdered. He was arrested twice for the crime, but never charged, and it remains unsolved.
Oh my god! What the hell have I done to deserve this? Whatever it is, the punishment definitely doesn’t fit the crime. Here’s the Jersey Shore’s resident rotten troll, Snooki , on the red carpet for some pool party somewhere. What PR a-hole thought that Snooki would be a good fit at a damn pool party? People wear bathing suits around pools… Not a good idea with this butterball. If you are an avid music lover like myself, you most likely woke up this morning with a song floating around in your mind. That song followed you through your daily routines, rolling around in your head like the apple in your lunch bag, causing you to hum along and maybe even dance a bit while accomplishing your goals for the day. While not everyone has the same song that they consider “pump up music” in their life, the idea that music can improve your mood and be a catalyst for people in their daily lives is important to acknowledge. According to an article on NPR about a new book called The Power of Music , the author Elena Mannes “sees so much potential in music’s power to change the brain and affect the way it works.” From that perspective, music can be anything from a life-changer for stroke victims to a daily remedy for the average person suffering a bad day. The sounds of singing and instruments, no matter the genre, have the effect of medicine on an ailing brain in times of need. The tunes can range from slow jams to fast-paced anthems or classical pieces, but it ends up being the general melody and placement of lyrics that triggers memories and feelings associated with emotional growth. The knowledge of sounds, whether they be the natural rhythms of the heart or the pounding beat of an r&b song, can be detected as early as in the womb. Music is ingrained in our lives even prior to our birth, which gives strong validation to the idea that listening to the sounds around us is good for our health! 5 Ways To Find Inspiration From Within While this book is mostly associated with the affects of music therapy on patients with serious ailments, people with every day problems in love, family, or work can relate to music bringing uplift and restorative properties into their lives. After a long day caring for the children or sitting in an office cubicle, listening to a popular song from the radio or turning on your iPod to your favorite song can be a therapeutic and often leave more positive feelings in its wake. Both of these uses can be have a purposeful outcome in that when you need that emotional release, sad music can be a good coping mechanism, but when positivity is in order, there is always a crutch for that arm. It depends on what you are looking for from the music that you are listening to, as different moods bring varying degrees of needs. The improvement of health from putting on your headphones and feeling free from the strains of every day life is one of the strongest unifying properties of the listening experience, as people from all walks of life can experience the strong emotional value of music. Music is powerful in that with its melodic and healing properties, health can improve based on immersing oneself in your favorite song on your iPod or waking up to a song floating around in your head. The musical experience surpasses cultural or generational boundaries, therefore, it already has strong effects on the way people live. The instruments, lyrics, and voices of the performers are all very ingrained in human connection, therefore, bringing music therapy to light as having a strong effect on health is a powerful step in the right direction. As health becomes a main concern in the aging process, music can have the power to uplift, add passion, and center your life.
