Britney Spears’ new dog has made her debut on Twitter. Less than three months after the newly-single pop star introduced her puppy Hannah to the world, along comes another cute canine to join her family. “Say good morning to my new baby people,” she wrote: Will the new pup also get a Twitter account like Hannah, whose page bio reads, “I’m Britney’s Bitch” (seriously)? Only Britney Spears ‘ free time will tell. Earlier this week, Dave Grohl said Brit looks dead inside. Agree?
Rex Reed of The New York Observer made his feelings very clear this week in an Identity Theft review : the critic is not a fan of the comedy. That’s perfectly reasonable, of course, but Reed is receiving major backlash at the moment due to his personal attack against actress Melissa McCarthy. In his critique, Reed refers to the star as a “female hippo,” adding that she is “cacophonous” and tractor-sized.” “Melissa McCarthy ( Bridesmaids ) is a gimmick comedian who has devoted her short career to being obese and obnoxious with equal success,” writes Reed. “Poor Jason Bateman. How did an actor so charming, talented, attractive and versatile get stuck in so much dreck?” Ouch. Damn. Are these fair criticisms for a movie critic to make? You tell us: Referring to McCarthy’s weight is… Fair game! Totally out of bounds! View Poll »
Brandi Chastain has responded to Hope Solo’s Twitter criticism of her recent commentary for ESPN, defending her comments as part of the job. Chastain, who rose to fame during Team USA’s 1999 World Cup win, pissed off Hope with her critique of America’s performance at the Olympics. Specifically, Chastain said defender Buehler actually needs to improve on her defense, a comment she stands by as both objective and honest. Chastain said in a statement: “My only comment is I am in London to cover women’s soccer for NBC in an honest and objective fashion, and that is what I have done, and will continue to do for the rest of the tournament.” Solo, who turned 31 yesterday , said “it’s too bad we can’t have commentators who know more about the game” and told Brandi to “lay off commentating about defending and goalkeeping until you get more educated.” If Solo’s comments have been any distraction to the team, you wouldn’t know it. They’re on the verge of beating North Korea to improve to 3-0.

When Jay-Z speaks, people listen. That’s the kind of respect this artist and producer has earned. That’s why his critique of the recently-remade version of “We Are the World” is receiving so much attention, as the rapper told MTV News over the weekend: “I know everybody is gonna take this wrong: ‘We Are the World,’ I love it, and I understand the point and think it’s great. But I think ‘We Are the World’ is like [Michael Jackson’s] ‘Thriller’ to me. I don’t ever wanna see it touched.” The man makes a good point. No offense to Miley Cyrus or Justin Bieber (okay, some offense to the former), but the iconic single loses a lot of luster when such young musicians are taking the place of Jackson, Bob Dylan and other luminaries. “I’m a fan of music. I know the plight and everything that’s going on in Haiti. I applaud the efforts,” Jay-Z added. “But… some things are just untouchable.. I think it’s time for us to make a new [song].” Do you agree with Jay-Z? Listen to the remake NOW and then vote below: What d you think of it?
