Lady Gaga Tears Up While Singing With Fan Maria Aragon

Gaga brings YouTube star onstage with her during tour stop in Toronto. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga (file) Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage When 10-year-old Maria Aragon posted a video of herself on YouTube covering Lady Gaga’s latest pop smash, “Born This Way,” she probably had no idea what kind of opportunity the video would lead to. It all started on February 17, when Gaga tweeted her praise for the young singer’s cover of her track. “Can’t stop crying watching this. This is why I make music. She is the future,” she wrote. The love affair culminated in Gaga bringing the young Canadian fan onstage with her during her tour stop in Toronto. Gaga even posted a photo of them together backstage, making monster paws, each wearing T-shirts with the other’s image on it. Gaga shared, “Myself +10 year Old Lady Maria of Winnipeg. She signed my t-shirt, she ate my heart, just like you.” In footage posted online, the crowd went crazy as the young singer took the stage decked out in a black leather jacket, a pink hoodie, sparkling black leggings and high-top sneakers. Gaga gave her a big hug, then sat down at the piano and put the girl on her lap as they sang “Born This Way” together. “Maria represents what this song is all about,” Gaga told the excited crowd. “It’s all about the next generation and the future.” As the pair sang the track acoustically, Gaga became visibly moved by the performance and tears began to form in her eyes. When the song ended, Aragon held up her stuffed orange monkey as she told the crowd, “I just want to thank all of you for your support. I hope you enjoyed it. Also, a shout-out to all my friends in Winnipeg and my family.” Gaga continued to tear up as Aragon made her way offstage, telling the room, “Little monsters, thank Maria from Winnipeg.” Related Photos The Evolution Of: Lady Gaga Related Artists Lady Gaga

Christian Bale Tears Up After Best Supporting Actor Oscar Win

‘I didn’t think I was like this,’ the ‘Fighter’ actor says, thanking his family, co-stars and real-life Dicky Eklund. By Shawn Adler Christian Bale wins the Oscar for Best Supporting Actor Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images As the Dark Knight, Christian Bale has faced the Scarecrow’s fear gas, the Joker’s anarchy and Two-Face’s betrayal. Who would have thought it would be a foot-tall opponent named Oscar who finally made him cry? A triumphant Bale fought back tears after winning the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as Dicky Eklund in “The Fighter” at the Oscars on Sunday night (February 27). It was the 37-year-old’s first nomination and first Academy Award. “I didn’t think I was like this,” Bale said, a lump in his throat. “[Thanks to] my wonderful wife and our little girl, who’s taught me so much more than I’ll ever be able to teach her.” For Bale, it was an uncommonly sentimental ending to a speech that began with good humor and a few laughs. “What a room full of talented and inspirational people,” Bale said when he first took the stage. “What am I doing here?” The Hollywood veteran and star of the upcoming “The Dark Knight Rises” even managed to good-naturedly refer to his infamous rant on the set of “Terminator: Salvation,” where he was caught on tape yelling profanity-laden tirades at a member of the crew. “I’m not gonna drop the F-bomb like [co-star and Best Supporting Actress winner] Melissa Leo did,” Bale joked. “I’ve done that plenty!” While thanking director David O. Russell and co-stars Leo, Amy Adams, and Mark Wahlberg, it was for Eklund that Bale saved his most fervent praise and gratitude, even managing to insert a plug for the Pride of Lowell’s website. “Where’s my quacker?” Bale asked, scanning the crowd for Dicky, who stood to feverous applause from the crowd. “Hey, mate, you’re the best! He’s had a wonderful story, and I can’t wait to see the next chapter. If you want to be a champ, go train with him! Check him out, he deserves it!” Stick with MTV News on Oscar night and beyond for red-carpet fashion coverage, analysis of the winners, plus interviews, photos and more from your favorite Hollywood stars! I Wanna Go lyrics by Britney Spears

Lyrics: Hey, over there, please forgive me If I#39;m coming on too strong here to stare, but you#39;re winning and they play my favourite song So come near, little closer Wanna whisper in your ear Say it clear, little question Wanna know just how you feel If I said my heart was beating loud If we could scape the crowd somehow If I said I want your body now Would you hold it against me? Cuz you feel like paradise and I need a vacation tonight So if I said I want your body now Would you hold

Lady Gaga Brings Monster Ball Home To New York

Madison Square Garden performance recorded for HBO special. By Jocelyn Vena Lady Gaga performs at Madison Square Garden on Monday Photo: Kevin Mazur/WireImage NEW YORK — Lady Gaga took her Monster Ball home Monday night, hitting the Madison Square Garden stage for not only the second show of this leg of her tour, but also the first of two tapings for her forthcoming HBO special. Check out photos from Lady Gaga’s New York City show. After a rousing set from the Scissor Sisters, the arena’s lights dimmed and the crowd went crazy as the chugging beat of “Dance in the Dark” played, counting down Mother Monster’s entrance. “New York City, did you guys come to party tonight?” she asked as she appeared. “The Monster Ball will set you free.” In a sheer dress and nun’s habit, Gaga performed “Love Game.” “My name is Lady Gaga, and I was born and raised in the unbreakable streets of New York City,” she proclaimed. “Thank you so much. Tonight, I want you to forget all of your insecurities because I didn’t used to be brave but you have made me brave, little monsters.” She then kicked it old school with “Boys Boys Boys.” “Are we gonna get divided now if I put this on?” she asked before pulling on a Yankees cap. After a quick chat with a fan, she went right into “Telephone,” without an appearance from Beyonc

J. Cole, Wale NBA All-Star Weekend Show Features Drake, Melanie Fiona

Drake and J. Cole sing ‘In the Morning,’ before Fiona, Cole and Wale perform ‘Beautiful Bliss.’ By Steven Roberts, with additional reporting by Janice Llamoca J. Cole Photo: MTV News NBA All-Star Weekend is officially under way in Los Angeles, and Wale and J. Cole helped to kick it off with a sold-out show at the House of Blues in West Hollywood on Friday night. The Roc Nation duo treated their fans, who had braved the uncharacteristically cold and damp Southern California weather, with an amazing performance as well as a surprise guest. Drake hit the stage during J. Cole’s set to perform their salacious smash hit “In the Morning.” The crowd erupted as soon as the track began to play, but it got even louder once Drake hit the stage to seduce nearly every young lady in attendance with his romantic style. “Baby, you wintertime cold/ The night is still young, drink that dinner wine slow/ I’m trying to make the goose bumps on your inner thigh show.” J. Cole and Drake released the video for the track this past week on Valentine’s Day. It features behind-the-scenes footage from their Paris stop on Drake’s Lights, Dreams and Nightmares European tour. When MTV News caught up with Cole before the show, he said that video was meant to be something really organic, even though it’s becoming something much bigger. “It was really a viral video. At the end of the day, it wasn’t supposed to be a Hype Williams production or nothing. I wanted it to be really organic, just to document the tour. Just to document that moment in my life, or our lives, touring Europe for the first time.” Cole said this was his first All-Star weekend, and he loved the energy it brought to the town. He has been in L.A. for two weeks now, since the Grammy Awards as well as working on his project with Kendrick Lamar . He said he hopes to play in the All-Star celebrity game next year to fulfill his hoop dreams. Another Canadian singer hopped on the stage as well. Fellow Roc Nation artist Melanie Fiona joined Cole and Wale onstage for their first-ever performance of Wale’s “Beautiful Bliss.” Wale opened his show with his usual vigor. During his set, which included tracks from his More About Nothing mixtape and Attention Deficit, the crowd roared once his collaboration with Waka Flocka and Roscoe Dash came on. But by that time, he had already cleared a space for himself to dance and shake his dreads as the crowd helped him rap. As far as he was concerned, it was business as usual, making sure the crowd had an amazing time. “We’re used to this now. We’ve done a lot of sold-out shows together. I just think the significance of this is it being All-Star weekend,” Wale said. “I think being a quote-unquote ‘real’ hip-hop show, that’s what makes it special.”

Britney Spears’ Femme Fatale Is ‘All Club Bangers,’ Pauly D Says

‘The hands immediately go up when that beat kicks [in],’ the ‘Jersey Shore’ DJ tells MTV News live about ‘Hold It Against Me.’ By Ryan J. Downey, with reporting by Jim Cantiello Britney Spears in her “Hold It Against Me” video Photo: Jive Britney’s “Hold It Against Me” has at least one fan fist-pumping: Pauly D. And he’s not alone! MTV News caught up with the “Jersey Shore” DJ via Skype to gauge his reaction to Britney Spears’ hotly anticipated new track, “Hold it Against Me,” and the accompanying video , which premiered Thursday on MTV. He was feeling under the weather during our live “MTV First: Britney Spears’ ‘Hold It Against Me’ Video Premiere” discussion but kept his appointment: “It’s all good, man,” he said. “I’m a warrior!” Increasingly known for his night job as a DJ, the reality-show star gave a strong endorsement for the track’s club-worthiness. “It’s a major, fist-pumping track,” he said of the reactions the song has gotten when he’s put it on. “The hands immediately go up when that beat kicks [in]. It’s such a hard beat. It’s like ‘ba-ba-ba,’ they’re fist-pumping to that track. It has energy. I love it!” When Pauly is working a room, he’s careful to stay in tune with the vibe of the crowd. A track like Britney’s latest single is exactly the type of song he prefers to keep in his arsenal as a secret weapon. It’s the type of song he’s dubbed a “go-to” track when DJing. “I don’t make any set [lists],” he explained. “I read the crowd. And then if I’m playing something and I’m kind of losing them a little bit, I know if I drop that track, I bring ’em right back!” So how might a great DJ follow up a “go-to” song like “Hold it Against Me”? “You gotta keep that momentum after that track, so I drop my track immediately after that, ‘Beat Dat Beat (It’s Time To),’ ” he offered, in something of a good-natured plug for his own single. Pauly D’s position of privilege as an MTV star and budding DJ has, in addition to the obvious perks, afforded him an opportunity Britney fans would salivate over: the chance to hear much of her forthcoming new album, Femme Fatale, which doesn’t drop until March 29. “Seriously, it’s all full of club bangers,” he revealed. “And I’m so excited about it, because I cannot wait to play ’em in the club. Literally, you can play the majority of that album in the club. I love the way she went to that route.” In a move that displayed his increasing media savvy, Pauly refused to let any song titles slip, but he did reiterate that “they’re all club bangers. They’re a lot like ‘Hold it Against Me.’ [ Femme Fatale is full of] major, major, club-banging tracks.” Do you agree with Pauly’s “club banger” assessment of “Hold It Against Me”? Let us know in the comments! Don’t miss “Jersey Shore,” airing Thursday nights at 10 p.m. ET on MTV. Arcade Fire Rock Out For Grammy Finale Performances

Album of the Year winners transform stage into BMX skate park on indie band’s big night. By Aly Semigran Arcade Fire perform at 2011 Grammy Awards Photo: Getty Images Just two days after their anti-Grammy party in Los Angeles, the Arcade Fire shifted gears and played for a worldwide audience on the Grammy stage on Sunday night (February 13). Check out photos of Arcade Fire’s performance and more! The indie darlings not only performed twice during the ceremony, they also walked away with the Album of the Year award for their sweeping chart-topper The Suburbs. “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” star Jason Segel introduced the Montreal natives, who were making their first-ever Grammy appearance. They kicked things off with their raucous, rolling “Month of May.” The eight-member group, led by lead singer Win Butler, welcomed a gaggle of BMX riders — some sporting POV cameras to capture the broadcast for fans — to the Grammy stage, which was then transformed into something of a rock-and-roll skate park. The Arcade Fire gave a loud, but not overly flashy performance that was a fitting end to an evening chock-full of big numbers. But as it turned out, the song was a precursor to an even bigger moment. Minutes after the band’s performance of the arena-ready “Month of May,” Kris Kristofferson and Barbra Streisand appeared onstage to announce the evening’s final and most prestigious award: Album of the Year. Besting mainstream acts Eminem, Lady Antebellum, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, a visibly stunned Arcade Fire emerged from backstage to accept the award, pulling off one of the evening’s biggest upsets. “What the hell!” an amazed Butler said. Apparently the singer’s excitement got the best of him, as he was bleeped presumably for using strong language later on in his acceptance speech. The newly anointed Grammy winner thanked the crowd and announced, “We’re going to go play another song, ’cause we like music!” A man of his word, Butler and his musical ensemble immediately took to their bevy of instruments — Butler placed their Grammy on one of the amps — and played again. Finally, Butler thanked his parents and told the Grammy audience they could exit to the next tune as they began the toe-tapping, head-bobbing Suburbs single “Ready to Start.” In spite of his instructions to the crowd, the attendees seemed happy to stick around for the infectious number. What did you think of the Arcade Fire’s Grammy performances? Tell us in the comments! Trey Songz, Lloyd Melt Hearts In NYC: Six Sexy Moments

Headliner Trigger Trey kicked off his Love Faces mini-tour at Madison Square Garden on Friday night. By Rebecca Thomas Trey Songz Photo: MTV News NEW YORK — Trey Songz bowed his Love Faces Tour on Friday night with a steamy, sold-out show in the Theater at Madison Square Garden. Lloyd, playing for the first time with a live band, warmed things up with an uptempo opening set. Whether you were cuffed up or on the prowl, it’s hard to imagine there was a better way to kick off a heart-racing Valentine’s Day weekend. Here, we re-live the evening’s six sexiest moments. Trey Twirls A Tender ‘Roni’ Back in 1989, Virginia-born Tremaine Neverson was a 5-year-old army brat, still years from ascending the Billboard charts under the nom de stage Trey Songz. Instead, another crooner known for flashing his granite-hard abs was ruling the airwaves: Bobby Brown. The ex-New Edition singer dropped the now-vintage video for “Roni” that year and it featured live-show footage of Brown — shirtless in silky “Hammer” pants and a heavy gold chain — going waist-to-gyrating waist with a swooning concertgoer. (“I guess this is why I got arrested, hunh?” he jokes to the audience.) On Friday, a woman named Simone became the envy of about 5,000 panting women as Songz, channeling the onetime King of R&B, pulled her from the crowd for an onstage dance to “Love Faces.” He removed her coat. He caressed her. His lips brushed her neck. Hearts exploded. Lloyd Lays it Down “New York is the most magic city in the world, and ain’t no girl like a New York girl,” Lloyd told the crowd before launching into his smash “Lay It Down,” the lead single from his March 22 LP, King of Hearts. The Polow Da Don-produced track may be one of the most flawlessly crafted pieces of bedroom music to be committed to MP3. Just hours before Friday’s show, MTV News asked Lloyd about the ecstatic, yodel-like vocal ad libs that form the song’s collision. The Atlanta-based crooner joked that he’d tapped his inner Scotsman and recorded that section while wearing a kilt. Whether Scottish, Swiss, Alps or ATL in origin, the vocal trick sent his lady fans (already on their feet and singing every lyric) into fits. Trey Covers ’90s Boy Band Burners Yes, fans were there to here Songz deliver catalog hits like “I Invented Sex” and “Neighbors Know My Name,” but his covers of Boyz II Men’s saccharine “I’ll Make Love to You” and Jodeci’s syrupy “Freek’N You” should be show staples. Hometown MC Cameos One of the perks of catching concerts at the World’s Most Famous Arena is that artists who make their nests in one of New York’s five boroughs occasionally pop up for surprise cameos. The inaugural show on the Love Faces mini-jaunt didn’t disappoint as Lloyd Banks joined Lloyd mid-set and Fabolous hit the stage for the homey Trey Songz. The G-Unit soldier trotted out his bouncy, Lloyd-featuring “Any Girl” before the New Orleans crooner fell back to play hype man as Banks ignited the crowd with the still-blazing “Beamer, Benz, or Bentley.” Loso, in a complementary smoking jacket (“I see your swag is right,” Trey smiled when the Brooklyn MC emerged onstage), ripped his “Say Aah” verse in a boozy knockout that was preceded by a thunderous rendition of “Bottoms Up.” Smoking Grooves For the second half of his show, the man with the velvety vibrato donned a dark, velvet smoking jacket, after opening up in a white ensemble that recalled Sinatra in his heyday. Simply put, Trey Songz knows how to suit up. (They don’t call him “Mr. Steal Your Girl” for nothing.) Make ‘Em Sweat Any girl who’s been on the receiving end of a stale Whitman’s Sampler or a wilted delicatessen bouquet knows that real romance is about the details. And Trey Songz, the performer, has honed his eye for detail. “There’s so much love right now everywhere I go,” he told MTV News during an interview a day before the show. If it comes across at times that he’s calculated the best moment to dab the perspiration from his forehead with a towel before tossing it into a squealing crowd, it’s no less effective. And when he asks for the house lights to be turned up so he can shout out a few beaming fans individually. (“I see you baby in the pink T-shirt”), the cost of admission seems priceless.
