Suri Cruise Charms Romantics

The 4-year-old Suri Cruise— who was a regular on the set while Katie Holmes was filming — had no problem making friends, Mom’s costars reveal. Suri Cruise‘s fan following just got a little bigger: the cast and crew of The Romantics have been won over by her charm! “We all shared her,” jokes Malin Akerman at the movie’s New York City premiere on Tuesday. “We drew, we played hide and seek, we played dogs and cats, ate cupcakes together.” Actors Elijah Wood and Adam Brody were equally captured b

Jeremy Renner Signed For ‘Mission: Impossible IV’

Paramount announced addition of ‘Hurt Locker’ actor to star alongside Tom Cruise in next ‘M:I’ installment. By Kara Warner Jeremy Renner Photo: Kevin Winter/ WireImage From “The Hurt Locker” to Hawkeye in “The Avengers” to a role opposite superspy Ethan Hunt, Jeremy Renner’s career is on the rise, as Paramount announced today that the seasoned yet rising star will appear as an operative alongside Tom Cruise in “Mission: Impossible IV.” According to Deadline , Paramount production chief Adam Goodman feels Renner “has a Daniel Craig quality” that he wants for the role. Sources tell the site that the studio was also looking for an actor who might be able to continue on with the franchise, should Cruise choose not to return in the future (Cruise is expected to return for a fifth installment). Other actors considered for the role include Tom Hardy (“Inception”), Chris Pine (“Star Trek”), Kevin Zegers, Christopher Egan and Renner’s “Hurt Locker” co-star Anthony Mackie. Although the production has had a few bumps and uncertainties along the way, Cruise has been vocal about his commitment to bring in new talent to the franchise. “My whole thing with the series is always having a new director come on and put their stamp on ‘Mission: Impossible,’ ” he told MTV News recently. “Brian De Palma was first, then John Woo, J.J. Abrams and now Brad Bird, so it will be Brad Bird’s ‘Mission: Impossible.’ ” Regarding his thoughts on the story line — which is, of course, heavily under wraps — Cruise said simply: “It’s sick. It’s fun, really fun.” Ever since his star-making turn in last year’s award-season darling (and Best Picture winner) “The Hurt Locker,” Renner has been lining up a slate of prestigious and high-profile projects. He’ll next appear in Ben Affleck’s much buzzed about Boston drama “The Town,” followed by a stint as superhero Hawkeye in Joss Whedon’s “Avengers,” and then his role in “Mission: Impossible IV.” The production, directed by Bird, with Cruise and J.J. Abrams producing, is set to begin shooting this fall. ‘Mission: Impossible IV’ Casting Tom Cruise’s Co-Star

Anthony Mackie, Kevin Zegers and Christopher Egan reportedly auditioning with Cruise. By Eric Ditzian Tom Cruise Photo: Pascal Le Segretain/ Getty Images Earlier in the summer, as Tom Cruise’s action comedy “Knight and Day” struggled at the domestic box office, there was open speculation about whether Paramount would move forward with a fourth installment of the Cruise-starring “Mission: Impossible” franchise. But “Knight and Day” has now passed the $220 million mark worldwide, thanks to hefty overseas business, and development on “M:I IV” is continuing apace. In the latest development, Deadline New York reports that Cruise and director Brad Bird are set to begin screen-testing actors this week to star opposite the A-lister. Three of the candidates are reportedly Anthony Mackie (“The Hurt Locker”), Kevin Zegers (“Frozen”) and Christopher Egan (“Letters to Juliet”). There remains ongoing speculation about the exact nature of Cruise’s role in the flick. As far back as June 2009, The Hollywood Reporter dished that Cruise might hand the starring role over to a younger actor, or even to an ensemble, potentially setting up a new generation of “M:I” films. Might that be the role for which Mackie, Zegers and Egan are auditioning? ” ‘Mission: Impossible’ is a brand,” an unnamed former studio chief told THR last year. “It didn’t have anything to do with Tom Cruise in the beginning.” Regardless of which actors join the franchise, Cruise has been adamant about his commitment to new creative blood. “My whole thing with the series is always having a new director come on and put their stamp on ‘Mission: Impossible,’ ” he told MTV News recently. “Brian De Palma was first, then John Woo, J.J. Abrams and now Brad Bird, so it will be Brad Bird’s ‘Mission: Impossible.’ ” Check out everything we’ve got on “Mission: Impossible IV.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .

Tom Cruise Wanted Zac Efron to Be His Motorcycling Protege

Taylor Lautner, dismount your hog. Though you’ve clearly tried to steal Tom Cruise’s motorcycle-riding mojo as of late, there’s another young matinee idol that Cruise was hoping to pass his Ducati on to instead: Zac Efron.

Jessica Alba Is Hot Just Alright Looking

I’ve been somewhat disappointed in the last few dozen or so Jessica Alba pictures I’ve had on the site, she’s a hot piece of ass and should be shown off, here she is looking like she’s on shore leave from the cruise liner she’s been working on. What the hell? She looks like she’s going clamming on Nantucket, and I don’t mean that in a sexual lesbian fantasy kind of way. I blame the kid, I know it’s not nice to point fingers at children, but if that kid never showed up things would be a lot hotter on the Jessica Alba front.

‘Mission: Impossible IV’ Still Moving Forward With Tom Cruise

Paramount is ‘excited’ about star, despite the underwhelming performance of ‘Knight and Day.’ By Eric Ditzian Tom Cruise Photo: George Pimentel/WireImage Paramount and Tom Cruise chose to accept another “Mission: Impossible” in February , and despite a slew of questions surrounding the project, both the studio and its leading man remain committed to one another. “We absolutely are excited about having Tom Cruise star in this movie,” Paramount vice chairman Rob Moore told The Hollywood Reporter. Yet the fact that Paramount even had to go on record in support of Cruise highlights the issues surrounding “Mission: Impossible IV” four years after the last installment in the franchise. Last month, Cruise’s action comedy, “Knight and Day,” opened to an underwhelming $20.1 million box office haul, and Paramount is reportedly keeping a watchful eye on the overseas numbers to see if the actor can sustain his appeal to foreign audiences. “It all depends on whether Tom Cruise brings in foreign bucks,” an executive not involved with the film told THR. For the moment, preproduction on “M:I 4” continues. Brad Bird (“The Incredibles”) is reportedly onboard to direct, with J.J. Abrams producing, and Paramount is said to be expecting a final script within weeks. Shooting would reportedly begin by the end of the year with a theatrical release planned during 2011’s holiday season. The studio is targeting a budget of around $140 million, significantly less than the $165 million budget of “M:I 3,” and Cruise is not expected to receive a $20 million payday, as he had not long ago. “Everybody will do their best to make it work,” said a Cruise rep about the star’s “M:I 4″ payday. And then there’s the ongoing talk about just what Cruise’s role in the movie will be. There is a long-standing rumor that his Ethan Hunt character might not even be the face of the franchise for the new film, but that he’d hand off the reigns to a younger actor or even an ensemble. ” ‘Mission: Impossible’ is a brand,” an unnamed former studio chief said. “It didn’t have anything to do with Tom Cruise in the beginning.” Do you think Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt should be the main character in “M:I 4”? Happy 48th Birthday, Tom Cruise!

Happy birthday to Tom Cruise, who is kind of the man. Yes, he jumps on couches, gets married a lot and shares opinions on political and social issues that many would consider out of the mainstream. We know this. But what’s really wrong with the guy? He’s been one of Hollywood’s biggest stars for almost three decades and for all the weirdness, is basically harmless. He’s fun, makes cool movies and seems to care most about being a good husband to Katie Holmes and a good dad to kids Isabella, Connor and little Suri. What more can you ask for, really? Tom Cruise is 48 years old today. Man, has the actor ever aged well … in reality, he looks nothing like his hilarious, middle-aged alter ego Les Grossman! From Risky Business to A Few Good Men , the Mission: Impossible series, Tropic Thunder and Knight and Day , he’s been one of the most successful stars ever. For good reason. So cheers to you, Tom, on this third of July. Many happy returns, and keep up the awesome work. Click to enlarge some classic Tom Cruise pictures below …
