Happy Birthday! Panty-Soakin’ Singer Gerald Maxwell Rivera Turns 39 Today!

Happy Birthday bruh man! Maxwell Turns 39 Years-Old Today Singer Maxwell, who possesses one of the smoothest voices in R&B, turns 39 today. Born in Brooklyn, New York, this soul singer made his musical debut in 1996 with the release of his debut album, Maxwell’s Urban Hang Suite. It was an overnight success and featured numerous hit singles, including “Ascension (Don’t Ever Wonder),” “Whenever Wherever Whatever” and “Sumthin’ Sumthin.’” The success of the album launched him into super-stardom and landed him comparisons to greats like Marvin Gaye. In the years that followed, Maxwell released two more albums Embrya (1998) and Now (2011); the former earning him a 1997 Grammy nomination for Best R&B Album. Now rose to the top of the Billboard 200 and the top of the R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts. It spawned the singles “Get to Know Ya,” “Lifetime” and the hugely popular “This Woman’s Work.” It would also be the singer’s last album before an eight-year hiatus. In July 2009 Maxwell returned to the mic with BLACKSummers’night. Four singles were lifted from the album including it’s biggest hit, “Pretty Wings.” Fast forward to 2012, and Maxwell is preparing to release his fifth studio album blackSUMMERS’Night. Guinness World Records Responds To Jack White’s ‘Elitist’ Claims

Guinness spokesperson explains why they refused to recognize a White Stripes show as ‘the shortest concert of all time.’ By James Montgomery Jack White Photo: WireImage Over the years, Jack White has taken umbrage with overzealous radio programmers , the Internet and, uh, Jason Stollsteimer (to name just a few) but in the new issue of Interview magazine, he lashes out at a new foe: The folks at Guinness World Records. Yes, in what could only be described as the latest step in his ongoing transformation into the music world’s foremost eccentric — sorry, Kanye — White has lashed out at the venerable record-keeping institution, calling them “a very elitist organization” after they refused to acknowledge the White Stripes’ one-note performance in Newfoundland (seen in their 2010 doc “Under Great White Northern Lights” ) as “the shortest music concert ever.” “I was thinking that afterwards we could contact the Guinness World Records people and see if we could get the record for the shortest concert of all time. So we did it, but ultimately, they turned us down,” White tells astronaut Buzz Aldrin (for real) in the Interview piece. “[They’re] a very elitist organization. There’s nothing scientific about what they do. They just have an office full of people who decide what is a record and what isn’t … so something like the shortest concert of all time, they didn’t think [it] was interesting enough to make it a record. I don’t know why they get to decide that, but, you know, they own the book.” Well, yes, they do own the book … and, as it turns out, the Stripes’ Newfoundland concert was featured in the 2009 edition of it, as a spokesperson for Guinness World Records pointed out to MTV News on Thursday (May 17). Of course, they’d subsequently remove the notation in later editions, though it had little to do with elitism and more to do with the simple fact that Guinness had no way of qualifying what actually counted as a performance. “We received a large volume of applications from bands and performers seeking to beat this record. We got an influx of individuals claiming that simply appearing on stage was enough to qualify them for this record,” the spokesperson wrote in an email to MTV News. “It became increasingly difficult for us to measure this objectively (for example, how many members of the crowd need to be able to see the performer before they disappear off stage?) “The nature of competing to make something the ‘shortest’ by its very nature trivializes the activity being carried out, and Guinness World Records has been forced to reject many claims of this kind,” the spokesperson continued. “As such, we have closed record categories for similar designations such as the shortest song, shortest poem, and also the record of shortest concert currently in question.” Of course, the spokesperson was quick to add that Guinness World Records “admires the band and we encourage them to attempt any of the 40,000 active records currently housed in our database.” And knowing White, we’re pretty sure he’ll take them up on that offer. Soon. Related Artists White Stripes Jack White

Slaughterhouse On Major-Label Debut: ‘We’re Done’

‘We take you on a ride through this album,’ Joell Ortiz tells MTV News of Welcome to: Our House. By Rob Markman, with reporting by James Lacsina Royce da 5″9″ of Slaughterhouse Photo: MTV News Slaughterhouse are putting the finishing touches on their humble abode. Welcome to: Our House , Slaughterhouse’s major-label debut on Shady Records, is scheduled for a June 12 release, and Eminem is just putting the finishing touches on the much-anticipated LP. “The album is done. In terms of vocal recording, we’re done. Marshall is still in the process of mixing, we still got a couple of records that we’re missing,” Royce da 5’9″ told MTV News on May 9 from the set of their “My Life” video. “We’re on pace for June, worst-case scenario, we’re looking at July, but it’s definitely coming, 100 percent. This isn’t SH’s first album, but ever since it was announced that Royce, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Crooked I signed to Eminem’s Shady Records at the top of 2011, rap fans have been wondering what type of sound the major-label marriage would yield. “Fire,” Joe Budden said, describing the sound of the new album in a single word. His partner-in-rhyme Ortiz was a little more descriptive. “It’s a really personal album, but there are records like ‘My Life’ which are celebratory,” he said. Each member of Slaughterhouse is a master lyricist in his own right, and when they converge for group efforts, the expectations are that much higher. “There are records were those core Slaughterhouse fans will get their ‘Ohs and ahs’ like ‘OK, the pen is pushing,’ ” Ortiz said, promising a barrage of witty lyrics. “It’s themed, but we take you on a ride through this album. Y’all gonna enjoy it.” The group is so excited about the album that they are taking great care in making sure it isn’t leaked onto the Internet prematurely. In fact, Welcome to: Our House is so closely guarded, none of Slaughterhouse members even have a copy. “We don’t have the music, it stays in the studio. It’s safe there,” Ortiz told us. “But every time we go to record or just get up and meet in Detroit with Em and everybody at Shady, I personally ask them to hear records.” What are you hoping to hear on Welcome to: Our House ? When The Checks Stop Coming In: Are Terrence J And Rocsi Next Up To Get The Boot From BET???

BET Releasing “106 & Park” Co-Hosts Terrence J And Rocsi Word on the street is that “The Game” stars Tia Mowry and Pooch Hall aren’t the only ones saying goodbye to the network. It’s rumored that “106 & Park” co-hosts Terrence J and Rocsi will also be history very soon. The two reportedly only have another 3 months at the network. The timing seems right for Terrence J to leave since his career has been doing so well. He’s been a regular on “The Game” and had a big role in “Think Like A Man” not to mention his woman Selita Ebanks is a supermodel. Rocsi on the other hand — well we guess she always has radio to fall back on. That and dating rich men, riiiiiight? This is still unconfirmed so what do you think, True or False?
