‘Breaking Dawn’ Characters Meet Their ‘Destinies’ In ‘Part 2’

In lead up to Sunday’s MTV Movie Awards, ‘Twilight’ producer promises vampire series finale will give fans ‘closure.’ By Kara Warner Kristen Stewart in “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” Photo: Summit Judging by everything we know about the fifth and final installment in the “Twilight” series, “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” is going to be a fitting, action-packed and altogether epic conclusion to the

Which ‘Twilight’ Character Would Win Hunger Games?

For ‘Twilight’ Tuesday, we imagine the vampires and wolves in a battle to the death. By Kara Warner Taylor Lautner in “Breaking Dawn” Photo: Summit Like most of our fellow “Twilight” fans, we spend a lot of time thinking about and overanalyzing the mythical world Stephenie Meyer created and the record-breaking film franchise it spawned. And even though we still have too many months to wait to see “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2,” the wait was made slightly less painful this week due to a couple of new trailer teases . Since we’ve had the series on the brain more than usual this week, along with the countless stories about “The Hunger Games” reaching “Twilight”-level numbers, I’ve decided to philosophize my way through this week’s “Twilight” Tuesday with the question: If the Cullens and the wolf pack were featured in a “Hunger Games”-style, fight-to-the-death tournament organized by the Volturi (of course), who would come out a victor? The first thing to address is who would be reaped into the tournament? And how many? If we go with 24, the ranks are difficult to fill out due to a lack of named weres. Nevertheless, here are the contenders (including a few of those who don’t live through the end of the series): Bella Swan, Edward Cullen, Jacob Black, Carlisle Cullen, Esme Cullen, Alice Cullen, Emmett Cullen, Rosalie Hale, Jasper Hale, Renesmee Cullen, Sam Uley, Quil Ateara V, Embry Call, Paul Lahote, Jared Cameron, Leah Clearwater, Seth Clearwater, Collin Littlesea, Brady Fuller, James, Victoria, Laurent, Riley Biers and one of the unnamed wolves from the end of “Breaking Dawn” who show up as part of Sam’s pack. Whew. Now, who will be defeated and how? My colleague Katie Byrne makes the very astute point that the Cullens are total pacifists and will not kill each other, no matter what. I say that Jasper might be the one to crack, since he doesn’t always have total control over his actions, but the rest of the Cullens will probably rein him in and quarantine him or something. Also, as much as it pains me to admit it, the vampires will likely outlast the werewolves (confession: I prefer wolves to vamps), particularly the Cullens with their supernatural abilities. But again, would the Cullens allow the seemingly needless fights-to-the-death to happen? This is a Volturi-created death match after all, so they might make like the end of “Breaking Dawn – Part 2” and save everyone. Except for James, Victoria, Laurent and Riley, of course. Ms. Byrne argues that if the Volturi did somehow succeed in making the tournament end in death and destruction, the Cullens would all join hands, eat a few handfuls of nightlock (assuming that the poisonous berry also works on non-humans), and end the “Games” with a civilized, non-bloody mass suicide. Or the Volturi might recognize the Cullens’ value (just like the Gamemakers did) and let them live — under the constant threat of death and destruction, that is. Kate Middleton Wedding Dress Enshrined, Displayed in Buckingham Palace Exhibit

This weekend at Buckingham Palace, it will feel like April 29 all over again. A new exhibit showcasing Kate Middelton’s wedding dress, tiara and more opens to the public Saturday, with over 125,000 advance tickets already sold. The exhibit will also display her shoes, jewelry, an artificial version of Kate’s bouquet, and even the wedding cake, minus its top three layers, obviously. The Duchess herself will be checking the exhibit out today alongside HRM Queen Elizabeth II, with whom she’ll hang out later this summer as well. Seeing the iconic dress in person, a USA Today reporter gushed over the details in the gown, which is “British craftsmanship at its best,” such as: “The sumptuousness of the lace flowers sewn onto the skirt and bodice, the deep vertical pleats that fall gracefully from the waistline down to the hem, the train’s elaborate individual panels, deliberately engineered to hold their shape.” Whatever that means, Kate Middleton sure looked elegant. The shoes for the big day, also by Alexander McQueen, were covered in white lace and featured heels 3-4 inches high. The exhibit ends October 3.

Hey Monday Say ‘The Show Must Go On’

‘Quitting a band you’re not happy being a part of can’t really wait,’ HM’s Cassadee Pope says of departed bassist Jersey Moriarty. By James Montgomery Hey Monday Photo: MTV News Last week, Hey Monday sent their fanbase into a panic when they announced that they were parting ways with beloved bassist Jersey Moriarty. They went to great lengths to assure fans that the split was amicable, writing on their blog , “this is in no way, shape or form a bitter break between us,” a sentiment Moriarty echoed on his own blog . Still, both bandmates and departing bassist seemed to admit that a change was needed. On the surface, there was nothing particularly new about this news. Bands part ways with bassists on a fairly regular basis, after all, but word of Jersey’s departure came exactly one month after HM frontwoman Cassadee Pope took to the band’s blog to announce — somewhat dejectedly — that their much-anticipated sophomore album, Beneath It All, was being pared down to just an EP. “I wish we had known that the full-length would be coming a little later before telling everyone about it, but there’s nothing we can do about it now,” Pope wrote. So, within the span of one month, the band lost an album and a bass player … which sort of raises a bigger question: What, exactly, is going on with Hey Monday? On Monday, Pope sat down with MTV News to give us an answer. “It’s really, really hectic, but it’s a good hectic,” she said of where things are right now. “With the whole Jersey thing, that really sucked and we were upset about it, but we were more upset about losing a friend, and we never really sat down and were worried about ‘Oh my God, is this the end of the band?’ Because the three of us [Pope, Mike Gentile and Alex Lipshaw] are so passionate about it, and we’ve talked about it a million times, about how this is our dream come true, and not to say any of us could quit tomorrow — you never know. But no one has to worry, the show must go on, and we’re really excited and nothing’s going to stop us. “The album thing, that’s just a case of me loving to write,” she continued. “And since we have some months to spare, [we thought], ‘Why not go and try to write songs that are better than the songs we have right now?’ We love the album, but if I can go in and write some ones that are better, why not? We want it to be the best album possible.” Pope said that Hey Monday are now aiming to have their second full-length in stores by March, and in the meantime, they’ve recruited Gentile’s brother to fill in for Moriarty on bass for the upcoming tour. Things are very much full-steam ahead, even if, over the last month, the band has learned to take things one day at a time. Especially since, when Moriarty decided to leave the band, they were already well into the promo cycle for their EP. “It was a little bit of a surprise, just because the record was about to come out, and we had done all the promo shots, we had finished everything. The timing was definitely the worst timing in the entire world, but something like quitting a band that you’re not happy being a part of can’t really wait,” Pope said. “You have to do it when you need to, and, you know, he made it very clear that this isn’t what he wants to do and, although we think this lifestyle is extremely easy and fun, to him maybe it was different, and he just wanted to go home and live a normal life.” In keeping with the tone of her earlier announcement, Pope maintained that Hey Monday have no ill will toward Moriarty … quite the opposite, in fact. “He’s probably going to continue writing his own music, and maybe that was another thing too, because I do most of the writing and he’s also a writer and maybe that wasn’t sitting well with him,” she said. “There’s a lot of reasons that we all talked about that we think had a lot to do with him leaving, but it’s not a bitter thing at all, we keep in touch and we’ll make sure that he’s doing okay.” Are you sad to hear Hey Monday and bassist Jersey have parted ways? ‘Breaking Dawn’ Casts Rami Malek As Benjamin

‘I’m thrilled,’ the ‘Pacific’ actor says of joining high-profile series. By Kara Warner Rami Malek Photo: Mark Sullivan/ WireImage Just when it seemed like things were all quiet on the “Twilight” front — save for a few updates from actress Nikki Reed and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg — “Entertainment Tonight” reports that “Pacific” star Rami Malek will be joining the “Breaking Dawn” cast as Egyptian vampire Benjamin. “I think it’s going to be great,” he told “ET.” “It’s going to be super exciting, and I’m thrilled.” In addition to “The Pacific,” Malek has appeared in various films and TV shows, most recently in the “Night at the Museum” movies as Ahkmenrah. He is also in Tom Hanks’ upcoming film “Larry Crowne.” So who is Benjamin? Fans of the books will remember him as a member of the Egyptian coven who, upon receiving word from Carlisle, comes to help Bella and the Cullens battle the Volturi. Benjamin is a young vamp blessed with the special ability of controlling the elements (

Meet Stephenie Meyer’s New ‘Eclipse’ Vampires In ‘Bree Tanner’

Several newborns from ‘The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner’ could appear in the ‘Twilight’ film on June 30. By Terri Schwartz Stephenie Meyer’s “The Short Second Life Of Bree Tanner” Photo: Hachette Book Group With so much attention on the fact that “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” swept the MTV Movie Awards on Sunday, it is almost easy to forget that there was another exciting “Twilight”-related event this weekend: the release of “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” on Saturday. If you couldn’t get your hands on Stephenie Meyer’s new novella in the store over the past two days, it’s available to read online for free from Monday (June 7) until July 5 at BreeTanner.com . “Short Second Life” is more than just a companion story for “The Twilight Saga.” Meyer gave Jodelle Ferland and director David Slade the backstory of this character, so it seems pretty certain that some of Bree’s side of the story will make its way into the film when it opens on June 30. While Bree and Victoria’s henchman Riley were characters that readers met from Bella’s perspective in “Eclipse,” “Short Second Life” introduces a few key members of the newborn army that may get some screen time in the upcoming film. Bree Tanner After running away from home because her father beat her, Bree was so hungry, all Riley had to do was promise her a burger to trick her into becoming a vampire. She’s not sure if she was 15 or 16 when she was turned, three months before the battle in “Eclipse.” Raoul and Kristie Of the twenty-odd newborns Bree is living with in “Short Second Life,” these are the two that are most likely to appear in the movie. They each lead their own “gang” of newborns, with Raoul controlling most of the male vampires and Kristie directing most of the females. Neither is physically described in the book, so it’s not clear exactly what they look like, but from the exclusive photo MTV received of the newborns following Riley out of a body of water, it can be inferred that they are the male and female vampires flanking him. Freaky Fred The two newborns that Bree befriends in “Short Second Life” are a bit less likely to make it into the final cut of “Eclipse.” Fred, a tall, muscular vampire with curly blond hair who Bree guesses to be around college-age, has the special ability to be able to repulse those around him, and can slip by unnoticed by making it so that no one can lay their eyes on him. He protects Bree this way and leaves the rest of the newborn pack before they confront the Cullens in the final battle. Diego The clear-headed newborn teams up with Bree early on in “Short Second Life” and the two develop a chaste but sweet romantic relationship over the course of one day. Diego is older than most of the others (by a few months) and not as savagely driven by his thirst. He’s described as having “dark, dense, curly hair, big, wide eyes and really full lips,” and — like all of Meyer’s vampires — he’s very, very pretty. SPOILER : His second life barely lasts longer than hers does, and he doesn’t make it to the final battle against the Cullens. A few other newborns named in the novella: Kevin, one of Raoul’s lackeys, and Sara and Jen, who follow Kristie. None of them received physical descriptions in the novella, so unless they are referred to by name, it will be hard to pin them down amid the rest of the army. There is also a vampire whom Bree calls “the blond Spider-man kid” because he talks about the comic book hero and climbs walls like him in one scene. As anyone who has read “Eclipse” knows, Victoria’s army doesn’t fare well against the Cullens, and neither does Bree. Still, her novella offers a unique opportunity for fans to get to know those that had once just been nameless enemies, making for a more poignant battle when the third “Twilight” film hits the big screen starting June 30.
